I picked up my dog from District Dogs Navy Yard after a 7-day boarding stay and found a significant…read morescuff on his nose that was actively bleeding. I received absolutely no notification that he had been injured. When I asked the associate what happened, his response was essentially, "I have no idea, I'm just working the evening pickup." When I asked whether the injury had been treated, I was told, "I don't think so." I then had to ask for something to treat the wound, at which point peroxide spray and a product to stop the bleeding were brought out. So my dog was injured while in their care, yet no one at pickup could tell me how or when it happened, whether it had been treated, or why I was never contacted. That is unacceptable and raises serious questions about the level of supervision provided during boarding. My dog was also groomed on his final day. I specifically flagged areas that had been missed during his previous grooming, only for those same areas to be missed again. The grooming appeared rushed. I returned to the facility in person and spoke with James, the acting manager. During that conversation, James acknowledged that he had personally observed the injury on my dog's final day but failed to notify me about it. That acknowledgment was particularly concerning because it confirmed that the injury had been noticed before pickup, yet I was still never informed. During that same visit, I personally observed employees screaming at dogs and banging on cages. I also observed what I considered unsanitary conditions in the lobby. After seeing this firsthand, combined with the unexplained injury and my dog's noticeably distressed demeanor after his stay, my concerns extended well beyond poor customer service. I was genuinely disturbed by what I witnessed and by the conditions in which animals appeared to be handled. I later received a call from Perfecto, the manager, regarding the situation. Despite the injury, failure to notify me after it was observed, concerns about how it was treated, the grooming issues, and what I personally witnessed at the facility, I was informed that he was unable to offer any compensation for the experience, inconvenience, or injury. Accidents can happen. What is unacceptable is the lack of communication, documentation, follow-through, and accountability afterward. This experience also follows previous instances where I've felt a lack of support from this location, making it increasingly difficult to view these issues as isolated incidents. Given the publicly reported concerns surrounding this business in the past, I would expect animal safety, transparency, and accountability to be treated with the utmost seriousness. Instead, my experience left me questioning whether enough has changed. Returning my dog actively bleeding after the injury had already been observed, failing to notify me, and the conduct I personally witnessed during my subsequent visit were deeply concerning from an animal-welfare standpoint. Based solely on what I personally experienced and observed, I no longer have confidence in this facility's ability to provide the standard of care, supervision, cleanliness, and communication I expect when entrusting someone with my dog. I will not be using this location again.

We've taken our 12-year-old Yorkie, Presley, to City Dogs twice now, and unfortunately we won't be…read morereturning after what happened at his most recent grooming on October 8. Presley's first haircut here was fine, shorter than expected on the face but it grew out nicely. This 2nd time we asked for the exact same length, but his face was left noticeably longer. 2 weeks later, his bangs are already covering his eyes. That alone would not have warranted a review, but what happened afterward absolutely does. Presley was dropped off healthy and alert. When my husband picked him up, staff said everything "went fine." But once home, Presley was unsteady on his back legs and refused food, treats, and water. We called City Dogs immediately, and the information we received was inconsistent. On the first call, we were told his nails hadn't been trimmed. On the second, we were told they had been as part of the full grooming package (would have been fine, we were just trying to understand what could have caused his sudden discomfort). We were also told, for the first time, that Presley "didn't want to stand" and had been "nipping." That alone raised a brow for us. Presley is 12, and in all our years of taking him to vets and groomers, we have only ever been told he is calm and gentle. Even in moments that make most dogs anxious, like rectal exams, he stays still and sweet. Hearing that he was agitated or refusing to stand instantly told us something must have been off that day. It also should have signaled to City Dogs that something was wrong. If a consistently calm dog suddenly becomes uncooperative, that is a sign of distress and should have prompted a call before continuing the grooming. When we finally reached the grooming manager, (also the groomer), the conversation became incredibly frustrating. From the start he was defensive, speaking over us and focusing more on protecting City Dogs' reputation than on helping us understand what might have happened. To be clear, we weren't being accusatory. We weren't blaming anyone or suggesting he intentionally hurt Presley. We were trying to figure out what could have happened in those few hours that might explain why our otherwise active dog suddenly could not walk properly. Instead, he grew irritated, pointing out that we had spoken to two other staff members, (completely out of our control), and repeatedly insisting he "would never hurt a dog, especially a senior dog." We never suggested he would, we just wanted clarity. He interrupted often, dismissed questions, and even claimed we were the ones being defensive. Any pushback on our part came only from asking him to let us speak. It felt like we were being treated as an inconvenience rather than concerned dog parents. When I asked if it was normal not to call an owner when a dog refuses to stand or shows distress, he said it was not uncommon, especially for "older dogs with arthritis." That didn't make sense as Presley has never been diagnosed with arthritis or shown symptoms. At one point, he also claimed we had accused him of giving Presley medicated food, when all my husband asked was whether Presley might have eaten anything while there. The manager ended the call by telling us to monitor Presley for 24 hours and make sure he was drinking water. When my husband explained that Presley was not eating or drinking at all, the manager finally said that was "concerning" and promised a follow-up call the next day. No one has called. Presley's stiffness lessened after the first day, but he continued walking unbalanced for several days afterward. The entire experience was very disappointing. We weren't looking to blame anyone, we were trying to understand what happened and make sure Presley was okay. Instead, we were met with evasion and indifference. Accidents can happen anywhere, but how a business responds afterward defines its integrity. In our case, City Dogs failed to respond with basic care, accountability, or compassion, and that is why Presley will not be returning.

Pebbles (blue heeler, 1.5 years old) would never listen to me, would not sit or lay still, and had a lot of other obedience issues that caused her to be stressed or confused. She was a TOUGH dog to train and I was concerned I couldn't find the solution for her to get basic concepts. This view has completely changed since working with RSK9's 3 week program. I would HIGHLY recommend them and their methods - you can tell they genuinely love working with dogs and it's made a huge difference in giving my dog the chance to find real rest at home. They send DAILY updates with photos and videos which was so nice. This isn't a regular class or something you just pay for; it's truly an investment that you and your dog will be using for the time you get to share together. Side note: it's worth doing 3 weeks versus 2 weeks. At the 2 week mark is when Pebbles really started to understand her marks and cues. From here there is so much more that can be refined and Brandi/Perry really capitalize on that threshold being crossed!

I am a neurotic owner of 3 dogs and just used them for the first time while my wife and I were out of town for a week. We were frequent and…read moreloyal clients for years, but the relationship changed over the last 10 months as Moe increasingly focused on how to extract more money from us instead of cultivating a continued positive client relationship. It started with less and less updates and photos when we boarded our dog. When Moe did provide updates it was usually in conjunction with an offer to purchase credits for future stays (which we did and later came to regret). Then Moe started asking us to pay additional fees for stays we had previously negotiated and paid for, going so far as to request those additional fees while he was already watching our dog. This behavior started to make us feel uncomfortable in continuing to use his services and more concerned about leaving our dog in his care. Moe's behavior did not present as someone thankful to clients that consistently supported his dog watching business. We had been loyal clients for years and, this year in particular, had already used Moe's services nearly every month with more scheduled trips through the rest of the year. Despite our concerns, we continued to use Moe's services since we had pre-paid for two more stays through the end of the year. That changed when we requested to reschedule one of the stays. Well in advance of the trip, we asked Moe if he was available for a week the month before our trip. He confirmed he was, but when we requested to reschedule our original trip to that earlier week and use the pre-paid credit, Moe stated he was no longer available. When we referred him to the cancellation policy on his website, he offered the credit, but wouldn't let us use it until the end of the year. We reminded Moe that in the years we've consistently used his services, we have never rescheduled, and explained the importance of rescheduling our trip. Moe subsequently offered to board our dog for the requested week, but wanted an additional $150, despite our pre-paid credit exceeding the amount of time we were rescheduling for. We felt hustled and tried to handle this issue privately, but Moe stopped responding to us. Unfortunately we have lost over $1,000 in pre-paid and unused credit--a costly mistake that we won't be making again. We're sad that our relationship soured in this way, but we could no longer trust Moe and would suggest prospective clients be cautious about doing business with him.
