Dear Dr. J. Tibbs, If we could afford to give your staff a bonus for the service they rendered towards my family in the saying "Good-Bye" to our dog Bear on July 25, 2022. They would have it! Sir, it seemed as if they felt our sorrow and where there as an anchor to support us during that painful time. Now, my wife watches Dr. Pol on the television and they seem to make events so easy and I will admit to you as I did to my wife after we got home how wanted to yell out NO, I don't want to do this, as you were shaving his leg in preparation for his IV but, I also knew that was the selfish part of me. It seemed to me that Bear knew this was his time, from the car ride (which he hated) to your office, to being in your clinic (which again he hated) but, he seemed was okay with all of this. My family trusted in me with the decision that we discussed, he trusted us in caring for him and we trusted you as you explained in detail every step in which you were taking. Thank you. I made it my business to stop by your clinic on 7-26-22 but, you were busy with a client. So, I just chatted with the young lady at the desk who I believe was Michelle and one thing I mentioned to her was the professionalism that was given on the inside of your clinic resembles nothing of the outside of your clinic. Sir, your staff is top notch from discussing this on the phone with Brandon first and then, I told him that I would have to discuss this with my family first to make sure we were on the same page and his understanding to me calling back and speaking to Michelle and it seemed that she picked up in the caring tone which Brandon displayed. I thank you. I believe I can speak for my wife and daughter in that we are grateful that it was your clinic in which we brought our Bear (Japanese Akita) of almost 14 years to rest. We thank you! Sincerely, US Air Force (Retired)

This review has been a long time coming (yes, that's a Taylor reference)…read more.. TL;DR: They, literally, watched my dog decline (and die the next day) in front of their eyes DURING our appointment and said "you'll have to make another appointment." So let's go back... We're new to the 'hood. We come in with our two fur babies for getting their shots updated. They actually muzzle Ozzie. Dear reader, he is 12 lbs and had 2 teeth. Even our cat just stands her ground and is all "yeah, ok." Big bark and, literally, no bite. He was terribly abused when we got him. And he's absolutely the sweetest thing. The one tech, literally, jumped up on the table to get away from him. And he didn't even approach her, he just barked. He's a traveler and we're movers. He's been to over 10 vets in different cities. This was the first time anyone had the audacity to muzzle him. There was no need. Huge red flag. (And has we tell this story to our neighbors, we hear "OMG, same thing here!" These are vets and techs who straight up do NOT like animals and do NOT know how to work with them.) So despite that first drama and red flag, we go back. Eddie is 14.5 yrs old and suddenly can't really walk well. We make an appointment and take him in. DURING the appointment he goes from walking in the door to his back legs, literally, no longer working. He couldn't stand, move, or anything. We're in tears. The vet says "Well, that's not the reason you made the appointment, so you'll need to make a new appointment." Uh, no, this was the reason. There's something happening. Welp, dear reader, he passed that weekend. We left this place and went immediately to VEG (the ER vet), who then sent us for an MRI in the middle of the night at a vet ER in Annapolis. The next morning, we got the call that a tumor was, very literally, breaking his back. The vet here gave him gabapentin and kicked us out. WHILE SHE, LITERALLY, WATCHED HIM GO FROM WALKING TO NOT BEING ABLE TO MOVE HIS BACK LEGS. What. The. Actual. Fuck. The people here do NOT care about your pets. Not in the slightest. They are rude. They are scared of the animals they claim to "treat." They are the worst. I cannot comprehend how they have good reviews. And yet, everyone we talk to in the neighborhood relays stories like ours. If you love your pet, do NOT take them here. Stay far far away. They are worthless and uncaring. Never in my life of 10+ different vets in different states have we ever encountered such "treatment."

A very long time ago, I went to District Vet for a quick need…read more My dog had a tick and because I tend to get squeamish, they were happy help me and my dog out with a quick appointment for tick removal. Since I had a primary vet, there was no need for me to return on a regular basis but they left a good impression. Now, I have an elderly dog with a terminal condition and needed a hospital to visit for a non-critical emergency need. I had taken him to another hospital nearby the week prior, and they suggested I make the decision to put him down over the weekend despite the fact that he's eating, drinking, playing and sleeping as normal. They thought his nasal tumor growth had progressed enough to impact his quality of life. What they didn't catch was that his new, swelling over his eye was actually a huge abscess that then erupted two days after getting an injectable antibiotic. Quite frankly, it was disgusting and caught me way off guard but it also became immediately clear that once ruptured my dog's eye visibility resumed (despite a very messy process to recognize that.) To ensure that there wasn't any additional care needed for the abscess site, I set up an appointment here because I refused to go back to the other hospital. Luckily, from the moment I arrived I picked up on good vibes. The vet tech that I met with first had done a great job reviewing all of the notes and health history files I had sent over prior to the appointment so I pretty much only had to just confirmed the accuracy, Dr. Thomas Landes then came in and he was just wonderful. He was friendly and asked thoughtful questions to better understand the current state of affairs. I was appreciative how communicative he was throughout my dog's exam (commenting positively on things like my dog's strong heartbeat) and they proposed a game plan for next steps. They took him back, further took care of the abscess and gave me some instruction on how to manage the care at home. Honestly, it was just so refreshing to have a positive but realistic doctor that had a great understanding on my dog's life stage and was helpful in ensuring that my dog received care as well as maintains a high quality of life as long as possible. Grateful to have DIstrict Vet nearby should any other non-emergency needs come up in this late stage of my dog's life.

I am extremely upset with the level of care and lack of communication I experienced at this…read morelocation, and I strongly urge other pet owners to take this seriously. I brought my cat in on Saturday because she was vomiting. What should have been a routine visit turned into a completely preventable situation that required additional veterinary care elsewhere. I paid roughly a thousand dollars for this visit with the expectation that my cat would receive proper care and be safely discharged. After the visit, my cat was returned to me already inside her carrier. At no point did anyone inform me that bandages had been placed on both of her back legs. Because she was brought out in her carrier, I had no opportunity to see them before leaving. I specifically asked for instructions before leaving and was told only that the directions were on the medication box and to "monitor" my cat. I was given no paperwork, no discharge instructions, and no information about aftercare. I did not even realize the bandages were on my cat until I got home. Over the next several days, my cat was clearly uncomfortable and not acting like herself. Because of this, I had to take her to a completely different veterinary clinic and pay out of pocket for a second opinion. That veterinarian explicitly told me that I should not have been allowed to leave with those bandages on, and that they should have been removed at the clinic. I was also informed that leaving them on without proper guidance can lead to complications. As a direct result, my cat developed swelling that required additional treatment and intervention to correct. To be clear, I only visited this location once. Every additional appointment, treatment, and expense occurred at another veterinary office to address this issue. In addition to this, my cat's legs were shaved during the visit, and this was never communicated to me. I brought my cat in for vomiting and left dealing with a completely different, preventable complication due to a lack of basic discharge procedures, communication, and proper aftercare. This is not about trying to get money from anyone. It is about accountability, proper standards of care, and making sure this does not happen to another pet. However, I do expect to be reimbursed for both the original visit--roughly a thousand dollars--and the additional veterinary expenses I had to take on as a direct result of this situation. My cat is thankfully improving, but this situation should never have occurred.

That's…read morewhy it's disappointing to see some recent changes that feel less focused on clients and more on business decisions. Since the practice was sold, one change in particular has made things unnecessarily difficult: prescriptions for outside pharmacies can no longer be sent electronically. I confirmed with my pharmacist at Chewy that they are willing and able to receive electronic prescriptions, but District Vet will not send them. Instead, clients now have to request a written prescription and then coordinate getting it to the pharmacy themselves. In a time when digital prescribing is standard--and when people are already dealing with rising costs and busy schedules--this extra step feels avoidable and inconvenient. It's hard not to feel like this policy discourages clients from using more affordable or preferred outside pharmacy options. I understand that change is part of any business, but it's disappointing when those changes make things harder for long-time clients. I hope the practice reconsiders policies like this and continues to prioritize the convenience and trust of the pet owners who have supported them for years. Spread the word and provide District Vet your feedback on this change.
