Yesterday, I picked up a few supplies from the Petco at the Pilgrim Shopping Plaza. For the cat people reading this, our section is located towards the back right of the store after you enter. The store is well stocked and has a variety of inventory. Also, right now there is the "Build-A -Teaser" for your feline display - very cute! This, coupled with the Halloween pet costumes and Spooky Season items at the front of the store, is cuteness overload. The employees working yesterday evening were friendly. When I first walked into the store, an associate greeted me and welcomed me to the shop. Another staffer at the register had a quick conversation about the treats I bought and if my cat really went bonkers over them (and btw, yes, she does). Overall, a good pet supply store. read more

I wanted to try the grooming services since it is by my house and mostly convenient for me and WOW what a huge mess. I honestly believe the groomers have potential and should be trained better. But if you honestly aren't comfortable doing a dog's haircut, i rather the honesty and not the mess up. I have a bernedoodle and asked to have him short for the summer with some poofiness on the top of his head. I even showed picture inspiration. I'm thinking they'll fluff him out and shorten his hair, NOPE. FIRST of all, it took 5 hours and a half. Absolutely too long. SECOND, my dog is shaved down to the skin, they said he had some matt's but i'd think they'd brush it out or even call to ask if i wanted him shaved down to the skin because of this. Nobody notified me. THIRD, he wasn't even fluffed out brushed nothing. It looks like they air dried him the whole time. Probably why it took 5hrs??? I made an appointment to have my 14-week-old puppy groomed, but when I arrived, I was turned away because she had not yet received her rabies vaccination--despite having all the age-appropriate vaccinations required by Petco. According to Petco's vaccination policy (as shown in the screenshot included in the photos), the rabies vaccine is not required for dogs 16 weeks and younger. My vet does not administer the rabies vaccine to dogs under 16 weeks, so my puppy hasn't received it yet. Since my dog is a standard poodle, she requires more frequent grooming due to the nature of her coat. As she's still a puppy, we're figuring out the right schedule for her grooming appointments. We were preparing to go out of town and she looked ready for grooming, so when we saw that Petco Verona had appointment availability on short notice, it seemed like a good option. Before making the appointment, I made sure she met Petco's vaccination requirements and had physical copies of her up-to-date records. I'm frustrated that I wasted my time preparing and taking my dog to the appointment, only to be turned away upon arrival due to the staff's lack of knowledge about their own company's policies. read more

What can I say. I decided to take my Havanese to a different Petco for her grooming this time around. First off they had an 8 AM appointment, which for me is good to beat some of the weekend traffic and crowds. My dog was so excited when she met her stylists Natalie S. And my dog is normally shy for the first few minutes. But with her she was very excited, so I knew she would be in good hands. Natalie answered all questions and gave me the look I was going for this time. And Natalie hit it out the park. My Havanese is still excited. The store doesn't open until 10:30 officially on Saturday, but the groomers are there at 8 AM. They have the self wash service as well. I needed a new hoodie for my dog and the store clerks rang me up for it even though the store was closed. They were so so so nice. This will be my new go to spot and Natalie will be my go to for grooming a. Just wonderful read more

Bathing our Lab safely at home is getting to be a chore. I visited the PetCo in Clifton yet was unable to see any upgrades in their very old dog wash stations. Finding PetCo in Verona was one of the best perks for our Lab as I was at their location this morning. First, the level of communication was very positive walking in the door. Additionally, the store appeared neat and orderly. I did ask for the Manager as I wanted to commend her on how important it is to me and our Stella to have such a well-managed facility. The dog wash stations are modern. Their entry consist of several (small) steps up into the actual "tub", which is a spacious rectangle. Towels are made available at the front of the tub, stacked within niches. (More on towels in this review.) The hose/nozzle will deliver warm/hot water after holding it ON a minute or two; there are no ON and OFF or HOT/COLD faucets. The height of the tub works very well for me as it is much safer than using our tub at home. I was able to lean over to wash our dog without straining my back. Also, the "lip" is very wide which prevents slipping and sliding should the dog be able to leave the tub. (I prefer not to use the short lead on her in the tub as it prevents me from turning her around easily.) The Self-Service Dog Wash is $20 with no time limit. There were no other doggie parents at the time I was there (11AM, Friday.) There were plenty of towels however, most, if not all, were quite threadbare and needed replacement. I did bring my own (thick) towel to dry her and finished up at home as I did not see a blow dryer which was OK. Despite this one (towel) observation, I highly recommend the Verona PetCo. So far so good. I usually bathe my 90lb German Shepherd at other locations with self wash but recently I've been dropping g her off here. I doubt anybody will give my dog a 10/10 perfect wash but they do a pretty good job in coming close. Sometimes they can't buff her nails because my dog gets antsy but somewhere in there I feel comfortable knowing they don't force my dog into a unwelcoming situation. The actual store is big, clean and staff always seems to help when needed. Overall, very good Petco store. read more

This always used to be the Petco location that we avoided. Since they've redone it, it's the Petco I prefer! It's clean and spacious. Less busy as compared to other locations in the area. My dogs get their nails cut here and the groomers are always friendly and accommodating. We use the self-service grooming area to wash my dogs. It makes bath time so much easier, and it includes everything you'd need-the shampoo, towels, brush and even blow dryers. While it's a good value (believe it's $15), the one thing that I really wish they'd fix is the dryers. The dryers basically do not work, they have very little airflow and it makes it nearly impossible to dry my dogs without using 100 towels. read more

I buy everything for my two dogs at Petco but after today sounds like I will be boycotting this joint."Where the pets go" is a lie and clearly biased against German shepherds. My dog was doing so well with his trainer in the parking lots of this store when a Karen of a manager comes and claims we are endangering the safety of her customers judging by our German shepherd. Neither did we bother not harass any of your incoming customers. Next Karen sends out two more employees to say we are soliciting. Not once did approach or speak to any of your customers of any sort of services. I was merely exposing my dog to new environments. You can kiss that double membership to vital care & grooming services down the drain thanks to your neighborhood Karen. read more

If you want to bathe your dog and get a side of Covid, this is the spot for you! Waited until my turn to groom my dog as we were told "1 station is allowed to be used at a time". We paid, went to groom my dog, and not only was another station in use, it was a 8 person family all with masks at their chins moving around the area. I asked the employee to do something and he suggested I go get a refund I'll be bathing my dog at home moving forward- a better tub and some dirty ripped towels for drying isn't worth $15 read more

The staff today at Petco in Verona NJ was so friendly and helpful today. I was in there buying a leash and harness for my new puppy Alexa. The store was so clean and organized it was easy to find the right size clothes and harness for my 7 week old pup. Melissa was great and very friendly and helped me choose the prettiest pink sweaters all the while straightening up displays and making the store look great . Awful place. Tried to buy a betta and was told I could not unless I buy a 10 gallon tank. 10. Gallon. Tank. One Betta Fish. The lady was very pushy and unpleasant. Not to mention... Half of the bettas were very sick looking - on their side and floating. So in order to buy a half dead fish I need to buy a 10 gallon tank. read more

The store has a wide selection of both cat and dog food, and just added a new fridge section for the dog food! However other parts of the store are not well maintained, when looking at the fish we noticed multiple dead fish stuck to the water filter in more than one tank. In addition one of the reptiles (scorpion) also seemed dead. I'll continue to go here for the dog food but would not feel comfortable leaving my pet here for any services after seeing this. read more

If I could give it a half star I would.. I wanted to order some food for 2 finicky a spoiled pugs and have my bf pick it up. Well somehow it was letting me pick up part of the order and door dash the rest....sigh.....called the store and the girl is like....no worries I'll cancel it. I get both order pick up emails so he goes to get it....the one flavor isn't there.....well where the hell is it I have a pick up order is ready notice....store claims they can't find order In System.....bullshit. Someone verified the pick up without actually getting the product then lied about it.....I worked retail I know how it works. Called customer service cancel door dash order for second time and ask for supervisor because all I hear is excuses and I ain't in the mood....supervises in India is busy but will call me .....4 hours later no call but guess what I do get.....yup a foo dash order. Sigh.... Call call again got the service fee refunded but supervisor was talking to someone else...I will not step foot into a petco except to return the crap I got today. Fuck you petco. read more

This place sucks. Girls wouldn't sell me and my daughters two beta fishes. Unless I bought 10 gallon tank. I never read that as their policy. And I bought other beta fish with 3 gallon tanks. Horrible. read more

When they first opened it was a good store, it has gone down hill since then. This is the smallest Petco in the area. They have very limited stock. One time I went in to buy puppy food and they didn't have the brand I needed. The clerks response: Go to the Petco in West Orange, it is bigger. Do take the Dog Training Classes there. I listened to the clerk about the training, it sounded really good and I have seen and spoken to the trainer there for years, even before he did the class. I sign up, and they block off the smallest of areas, mind you I have a Bernese Mountain dog. We have one class, then he tells us, next week we won't have one, the following week they cancel the class 3 hours before the class. The following week was Memorial Day weekend so no class. One class in a month for dog/puppy training is unacceptable. Andrew told us we could call or email him with questions. 1) he never responds to emails 2) never there when you call the store or the classic, you just missed him. I went to the store to get my refund and he avoided making eye contact with me. Speaking to other people, they had similar experiences with him and the dog training. They should really revamp or expand this store, start over with new management. I go to the competition and the smaller local pet stores. This store has lost my business. read more

Really like this Petco. It is never crowded and they have a nice stock. The items tend to be a little pricey. But we buy in bulk for our cat because it tends to be a bit cheaper. The staff is nice and helpful if you need help finding anything etc. They do also offer dog training. We will continue to come here. This place is great, doesn't feel like a chain store. The employees are super friendly, they always greet you and offer to help. When I buy cat litter they offer to carry it my car (I decline) but they open the door for me as I leave, which is really nice. The selection is good, for a small store, I think they have all the products you would find in a bigger Petco. It's also rarely busy, so not a lot of waiting in line. They don't really sell animals at this store. read more
