Our trainer's name was Natalie and she was so sweet with Scout and also answered our situational questions that didn't always apply to course materials. I have shopped at Petco for years, and now my senior coonhound has gotten accustomed to Petco's store brand of wet food (Whole Hearted). When I went last week to the store, the shelves were empty of the store brand. I bought a few cans of other brands to try and unfortunately my dog turned her nose up at all of them. I called this morning to check stock and was told, "oh our freight manager walked out last week so we don't have our stock off pallets. We have what you need but it is on the bottom of the pallet so we can't get it. Try calling Hazel Dell store to see if they have it." So...we have what you want but won't get it for you. Absolute WORST level of customer service. The store manager at this location (4th Plain, Vancouver) should be terminated as this store is NOT being well managed. To top it off, the location often smells of animal urine. I'll try the other store location but the 4th Plain location needs corporate to take a look at this location. read more

I took my puppy to get his nails trimmed. I'd like to preface by saying that my puppy is the sweetest boy, the neighbors love him, the dogs around here love him; he's just a social butterfly with really good behavior. I told the woman who had cool bicolor eyes (one brown one blue) to please be careful; he's a rescue puppy. She was so mean; while I could hear her she was sweet when she stepped inside I could hear her talking to him in a really horrible tone. It was so bad my puppy peed. That was not all when he came home it took him two days to be back to normal. He crawled into a ball and was sad. Thankfully my neighbors (one of whom is a toddler) came to dinner and they fixed him with love and affection and thank god my puppy is back to normal. I would suggest that woman finds something else she may enjoy more, but traumatizing puppies is definitely not what Petco Grooming should be doing. Needless to say, I will never go to that woman again. And to her: Be kind to animals because Karma will always get you. They're innocent souls you have no right to be mean. read more

This is the most awesome Petco I've been to! I planned on shopping, but also really needed my dog's nails trimmed. I was nervous,because at her vet, she doesn't tolerate it well at all. I didn't need to worry at all, actually, because she did great! Her technician was Tyler, and he was so calming and pleasant, I'm sure that he made all the difference! If I could give this Petco 0 stars I would. We have been bringing our dog for grooming and vet care at this location for at least 2 years now. She used to have a wonderful groomer who was happy to see our girl every time we came in and she always did a wonderful job doing all the things, nails, de shedding, ears etc. But alas that groomer left recently. So the last time we were there the groomer set up her next appointment for today. So today we show up with our dog and we were flat refused service, because the new groomer was not confident with cutting her nails due to the fact that she has Von Willebrand's disease, which is a bleeding disorder in dogs that makes it so that her blood may not clot. Ok, so the last groomer knew this and was so comfortable with our dog that it was NEVER a problem. But today it was. The new groomer FLAT REFUSED to help our dog and refused to even bathe her so we could use our free grooming which we earned by bringing our dog there over and over again. The manager who came out to help got insulted when I called her Mam, so she told us her name was Erin. She proceeds to ask us to TELL HER what our dogs bleeding disorder is. We told her and she was looking it up on her phone. We said you are very aware that our dog has this bleeding disorder, you are the one who refused her service for it, why all the theatrics about not understanding what it is?? We bring our dog there to see their Veterinarian who had all the records, but this woman needed to look it up on her phone in front of us to understand what it is, ok. So we were told that we would have to call corporate customer service and that we needed to leave. They refused to even just wash her since we had a "free grooming" GIVEN TO US by using their Total Care plan. She refused to give us credit for this so called "free grooming" and told us to call the customer service number and leave. Absolutely the worst experience we have ever had. We will NEVER bring our dog back here ever again and I hope this review catches the attention of Petco management!! How dare you make us and our dog feel so unwelcome in the store we have spent A-LOT our hard earned money in for years working to form good relationships with anyone there that had anything to do with our precious dog. We really thought we had created relationships in this store. We have no problem spending our hard earned money somewhere that isn't hiring girls out of high school to groom dogs that they aren't trained to even handle!! Erin the manager told us that their groomers are not trained and that is why they cannot service her with a bleeding disorder, wtf? Stay away from this scam of a pet store, there are non corporate places to get care all over the place and trained groomers for that matter!! So frustrating we had to shed a few tears over it. Thanks for ruining our Easter Sunday with your shenanigans and now we have to go form new relationships with groomers who are trained to their JOB and find a new Vet!! Took my 13 week old Maltese to the Fourth Plain location, We were asked to bring her in an hour early. We brought her in a noon and stated it would take 3 hours. We returned at four (no call) and the puppy had been in the kennel the whole time they had not done anything. The pup was to be give a face and fannie trim and trim nails. We were told her fur was matted and they wanted to shave her bald it is October and this breed is not good with cold. We told them to trim the nails and give her back. The groomer shaved all the hair off the back legs, shaved her face and fannie trimmed her nail. and charged $80.00. The petco site for small dogs does not go that high she wieighs 2 and1/2 pounds and did not even get a bath. She came home looking rediculous. Never a again. read more

I brought my 6 month old Frenchton puppy in for grooming today. I have a receipt and date of admin of his rabies which was required before he was transported to Washington from Ohio. I went in for his grooming appt and they refused to groom him because the receipt didn't say if it was a one or three year shot. Ummm...he is 6 months old. VERY rude also. I have visited the Petco a few times before to pick up crickets for my reptiles, so my last visit I brought a friend in to pick up crickets for hers. While there I had brought in my working Doberman and proceeded to head to the back for help to get her crickets. The whole time we were standing there waiting in line behind another woman, I was getting dirty looks from the dark-red haired older female employee that was helping the woman in front of us. She continue to stare back and not even look either of us in the face, didn't speak to the customer she was helping, but just stared at my dog. I knew she either didn't like the fact that he was a Doberman, or didn't like my properly-fitted Herm Sprenger prong collar. Having a working dog, especially one so strong that is in training, there is nothing wrong with using training Devices whenever you have an experienced hand. Given just by me walking in, she wouldn't know my experience, but it does not give the right to stare or judge. But I digress. Upon walking up there she stares and says nothing, so I begin telling her that we needed 40 medium crickets, she doesn't say anything friendly, but yet asks if he's a "bad puller". I tell her no, that he's a protection trained dog and very well worked. She decides to inform me that "Petco offers $25 basic obedience training classes". I tell her that I myself am a trainer and do not need to take any classes given by Petco. She then says, "Oh, well I thought it would be a good suggestion so you don't have to use a choke chain". I then promptly and quickly educated her on the fact that the 2.35mm Herm Sprenger prong collar he was wearing is not equivalent to a choke chain at all, and is a much more gentle and balanced training tool. She said absolutely nothing, pushed the crickets to me, and walked off. This location or any for that matter could stand to educate their employees, and not allow them to ridicule customers on their animals. read more

Meh, this Petco is just like any other chain pet store. I sometimes stop in for supplies (silk plants, airline tubing, dechlorinator) but I don't think I would ever buy fish here. I stopped in during their dollar-per-gallon sale and picked up at 29g. Most of them were cracked or chipped. I guess it's to be expected, but it doesn't have to be that way. I perused the live fish, many looked sickly. I felt bad for the gourami housed with tiger barbs. Their thread-like pelvic fins were nipped to stumps. One yellow tang in their saltwater tank looked extremely sickly. Inverted belly area which I guessed was due to internal parasites. Poor fish. read more

One of them also gave me some really bad pet advice, which I confirmed to be false with two different vets. I really enjoy this location. The employees are always super nice and helpful. With it being cold out, my puppers don't like going on walks at night outside, so we bring them to the store and spend some extra time there when getting food. Sara is my favorite. Sara and another coworker were extra friendly to my fur babies when we came in one night and I appreciated it so much. Sara always welcomes us when we come in, asks about the pups when they're not with us and really makes us look forward to going to this location. Overall giving it a ok rating. Facility was clean overall but finding a associate was hard to find maybe short staffed. One of the associates was kinda snoody when I asked for a feeder mouse. Clean, pleasant store with very friendly employees. They have the larger sizes of Solid Gold dog food. New Seasons is cheaper, oddly, but doesn't always have the bigger bags. We got a Pet Stages toy that Oola promptly destroyed; she can't have those anymore. We had a gift certificate and they cheerfully rang us up without tax with the Oregon license. They have grooming and the usual Petco stuff. I wouldn't drive all the way up there to go to Petco, but if I was in the neighborhood it is a pleasant place to stop and get doggy stuff. read more

I really wanted to like this Petco since it's on my way home from work and they seem to have a very nice, well stocked, aquarium/fish section. The first time I went in I couldn't find anyone in the store who could help me other than the cashier who looked overwhelmed with a long line of customers. I ended up bothering an employee who was on her break in the break room (I know, it was a last resort) but she said she couldn't help me and to ask the cashier. So, I went up front and managed to get the cashier's attention. After he called for help to the aquarium section an employee magically appeared in seconds. The next time I came in I was prepared to buy supplies for a planted tank setup (not cheap) and the cashier from the first time was in the aquarium section. Great, I thought. But, there was a customer there before me who he started to help. Even though we made eye contact he made no effort to get another employee over or even ask me to please wait until he was done helping the other customer. I just felt totally neglected and ended up shopping for my planted tank set up at Petsmart. The last straw was when I went in because I was looking for some shrimp and seemed to remember them having some that I didn't see at Petsmart. Same situation... nobody around to help me and I was just left wandering the aisles. I was also sad to notice at least 2-3 dead fish in a lot of the tanks...just a bad sign that something is off in the water and/or general neglect. I wouldn't have bought any fish after seeing that. TLDR - Great selection but horrible service and neglect of the fish in the aquarium section. read more

I've been bringing our fur baby to this Petco (Vancouver, off of Mill Plain) and have not had a bad experience yet - Tippy went from having to be in the drying cage to blow drying and from having her nails clipped to accepting grinding. She is an older dog with issues and the groomers here have brought her around to accepting grooming with very little fight. although she still doesn't like it LOL I am so happy to find a place that cares for your fur baby like you do. I've watched the groomers with other people's pets, and have never seen a bad sight. I will be coming here for all of our Tippy's grooming needs read more

This place is great since it's less than a mile away from my home! My dog went into heat & I freaked & rushed there for diapers. I had no clue about any of that stuff & was pretty grossed out by it all to tell ya the truth. It was Easter so they only had like 2 staff members. Nether of them knew much about dogs, they where so nice & called someone to answer all of my questions. They went up & beyond, even when I said they didn't need to since it was a holiday. I love their selection of grain free bulk food!! It is an awesome treat for when I have to come here to get my baby girl's nails trimmed. My dog will allow me like 2 times a yr to trim them myself. The rest of the time I have to take her here. They do such an amazing job! Especially since my dog shakes, sheds, & peed once because she was so nervous. They are such professionals here & made me feel a little bit less embarrassed that she peed. This is one of the only places you can get your pets nails trimmed without them being all jagged & snagging on everything. I cannot say enough how well their customer service is here! read more

Rude staff that complain over the phone when you call that it is busy, no apologies about wait times for curbside, employees who clearly make it known that any customer there is just an annoyance to them. In particular one skinny dirty blonde girl. On top of that when you address the concerns to the "manager" I was transferred too she sounded like she was OUT OF IT and was mumbling words to me. I was forced to go to this store after Petsmart was out of crickets. I have always chose other pet stores over Petco due to past experiences years ago. I went in asking for crickets and had AMAZING service. Erin was the one to help me and she spent 15mins answering all of my questions (even the dumb ones lol). She gave me information about my tarantula and leopard gecko that I never knew. I will be going here from here on out. I usually shop at Petco for food, treats and toys for my pups. But this time I had a really unusual experience that has really turned me off of this location. The Manager Chris was smoking marijuana from his vapor pipe in the store while working at the register. I understand it is legal now in the state of WA, but I don't go near it and don't appreciate being around it. I came in for a nice shopping experience and I am rung up by an employee that was high. I could smell it walking into the store. I could smell it by the dog training area, and I smelled it all over him as I walked up to the register as he quickly hid his pipe under the counter. If this was a "glass shop" or a medical marijuana store - OK, I get it. But this is Petco. Really??? read more

We came in last week and got food on sale, came back in today and there weren't any on the shelf.. so I grabbed a similar package but it wasn't the one on sale. This is absolutely the most unprofessional and honestly rudest staff I've ever encountered and I never write reviews but this place really needs to have an eye opener about how to come about caring and supplying the customers with respect and customer service if I'm giving that in return. I let them know this was my first time buying a hamster, George helped me out on what all I needed and was really appreciative of him. I then walk up to the counter to get checked out and staff ERIN was giving me a questionable look and said that I shouldn't have that type of cage for the hamster I got, so I'm like oh, well okay can you help me out which type of cage should I get, and she seemed hesitant to help me out and rolled her eyes at me, then we went over to the cages and she seemed very unprofessional and said well yeah I don't know, you need a bigger cage oh well whatever go with that one in fact. And then we walked back to the counter and she told someone else to ring me up while she rang someone else up. Extremely rude and unfriendly WILL NOT be going back to that location and recommend y'all don't either. One bad apple certainly ruined the experience for me, unless that staff ERIN has an attitude adjustment, that location will not have my support. read more

My dog has been there before, but the very unhelpful young blonde girl who had the heat jacked up to 105 couldn't find a record, so I couldn't get his claws clipped. DECAYING BETTAS :( I went in to get a new betta, a female I had been watching for a while. Went in and took a peek at the boys, a betta was placed on top of the display, and he was decayed into the water. His gill was hanging off.. It was a horrible sight. There were a few others that seemed freshly passed, but who knows? All of the bettas are always sick. I've got a few lucky ones who weren't sick, and thank god I picked them up when I did a little over a year ago, they are still alive and healthy... I know the cups are the most you guys can do... But please realize these creatures don't deserve to live like this. Take care of them and you'll find they're a very rewarding fish and have unique personalities! read more

I've brought my Yorkshire terrier here to Christian for grooming for close to 2-ish years now, I highly recommend him! He does really well with my girl, she's very shy and anxious because PetSmart traumatized her, cut her all up. it was really I mean REALLY bad. Of course after an experience like that she's going to hate grooming. Everywhere else I brought her she would come home in a "catatonic" like state, traumatized to all hell and back. But with Christian, when I pick her up she acts like it was just another regular day no muss no fuss. She has never come home terrified or bloody and cut up with him and he does an excellent job on the cut. he even remembers her specific haircut and medical needs, I don't even have to tell him anything he already knows what to do. When handing over my baby to Christian I trust him undoubtedly and I have never felt that with any other professional, not even a vet. Highly recommend Christian he is the best! read more

We took our dogs to get groomed at Petco and they came back with small cuts on their backs and necks presumably from the razor. We keep the dogs clean and they do not scratch themselves enough to cause these cuts so it wasn't from fleas or anything like that. I felt terrible that we took the dogs to a place where they were injured by other people. I have never reviewed a place before, but I had to let other people know that if they took their dogs here they may not be treated humanely. read more
