I've been bringing my pug here for regular grooming for the last 3 years. The groomers used to be great! My dog and I both enjoyed my experience here - he was always so excited to come (major tail wagging). A bonus was that it's right next to Trader Joe's so I could run errands right after dropping him off. Over the last year, the quality of the grooming has plummeted into the depths of the earth. Sadly, my dog hasn't been as excited to come, but I attributed it maybe to old age. I can confidently say that the service is atrocious. I overlooked the last couple experiences (dog still damp and ears not properly cleaned) mainly because of the convenient location, but alas, I can no longer tolerate it. I dropped off my pug for an 8:30am appointment today. All he gets is a bath and a shed experience. In the past, it has never taken longer than 2-2.5 hours. Today, it took 4 hours. No communication/updates were provided. I stopped by the store at the 3 hour mark inquiring about my pug since I figured maybe they forgot to call and they said that they hadn't even brushed him yet. I get that it can get busy on weekends, but taking into consideration that I was one of the earliest appointment slots (before the actual store even opens)... for my dog to not have been brushed 3 hours later, is horrendous. Although this location is very convenient for me, I cannot, in good faith, give Petco my business any longer. TLDR: Grooming services are terrible. Do not entrust them with your dog's life. I used to take my dogs here for years to get their nails trimmed. I've pretty much given up and am now looking for somewhere else for this service. Twice I have walked in, waited for someone to appear at the counter only to be told they were too busy. The second time I was told that I needed an appointment before bringing my dog for nails. I pointed to the Express Services sign that said, no appointment needed. I've called several times since then to try and make an appointment and the phone always rolls over to voice message. I finally left a message indicating that I wanted to schedule an appointment expecting a call back. Instead I received a message that my appointment was scheduled the next day at 10am without any input from me. Unfortunately, I had a family matter to attend to at that time and had to cancel. The staff has changed and they may be good groomers and maybe they are understaffed, but customer service sadly is terrible. read more

Helpful staff and lots of pet adoption fairs held out front some Saturdays. There's also a bathing area for your pets inside. If you'll be shopping often, it's best to sign up for their rewards program to earn points towards free pet food. It does take a while to get a free bag if you only have one pet, but if you have several, you'll get there in no time. read more

I can't believe I haven't gone to this location sooner! Tustin Petco has some of the best groomers in the Southern California region. No other groomer wants the smoke! I brought Skippy to Danielle A. to get groomed after a month long vacation, suffice to say his fur has become a bit haggard. And to top it all off, Skippy injured his back leg (another story for a later time). But none of those proved to be an obstacle the up-and-coming Tustin Petco groomer Danielle! After an undisclosed but not too concerningly long of a time, Skippy emerged from the ruins of the disheveled shell of his past self and came out a new, adorable, revitalized (albeit still injured, again, a story for a later time) version of himself! This is in big part thanks to the incomparable grooming skills by Danielle. Also shouts out to her for catering to Skippy's weak leg midgroom. Truly a real one. Skippy has since been offered partnerships from the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, the AKC National Championship, appearances for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and a spot in the Cabinet of the Trudeau Administration. We're not sure how that last one came to be, Skippy's not a Canadian citizen. Either way, we both owe Danielle a big thanks for making all this a possibility with just one grooming session! So this is a review that is just a feel good story. I've had amazing customer service in the past from various places and establishments. It usually prompts me to write about my experience on Yelp good or bad. This review is of the Petco location in Tustin off Irvine Blvd... I came in on Wed, Aug 27th to grab a portable soft sided crate for our new pitty puppy along with some other goodies like a Carhartt collar and some silicon lids for my pups bowls AND a nifty double sided spatula as I mix wet and dry food for my puppy (* Hills Science Diet for Puppies ** Tried raw... puppy didn't like and too many minerals in raw foods), but I digress... So I had my puppy with me on this trip so he could hand pick a few items by sniffing them for approval or putting his head down to disapprove any selections. It was a semi-hot day in SoCal and they were doing construction of the parking lot next door in front of Trader Joe's. So the parking lot was packed - lot's of cars and in the midst of all this automotive and parking lot chaos - I had my puppy in the cart with my items unbagged (bc I was offered a bag at Petco and decided I could manage 3 loose items) along with a large flat box that contained the collapsible soft sided crate. As I approached my vehicle - Kingston (puppy) - wanted to go mark some territory so I proceeded to pop my trunk and place my large box in the trunk and I grabbed the loose items and threw them in the dog tote that I carry for Kingston. No biggie. After Kingston marked up a few rocks and soil - it was time to roll out. The items I picked up at Petco were perfect! Crate worked as intended as we wanted to have Kingston in a crate inside our car during short trips so he's not jumping around everywhere and the collar was legit - can't go wrong with Carhartt - and the bowl covers were magical! They stick on top of any bowl size to provide a suction like seal without any sticky residue!! So as I reached for the spatula so I could scoop out some wet food and mix it with the dry food... I could not find it! I looked in the dog tote - nothing... checked my car - nothing... looked at the receipt in case they didn't ring it up - it was on there and I paid $5.99 for it. I figured at this point I lost $5.99 bc it would not be worth it to check if I had accidentally left it on the counter when I checked out -- otherwise, it would've been left in the cart in the parking lot and at this point the following day - no way anyone would find this spatula. So for ish and giggles -- I decided to go to Petco the following day and ask about it with receipt in hand. I was going to be in the area and what would it hurt? I was thinking to myself... how do I even go about asking for this? Uh... by the way I purchased this spatula thing and I think I left it on the counter or in the cart which I left in the parking lot yesterday. Any chance this $5.99 item was returned? -- That's the best I could come up with so I decided to go with that. Enter Petco and Ary greets me with... "I can help you on the first register... do you have a return?" I then proceed to recite what I wrote in the paragraph above. To my surprise she looks at me and then says... "I'm sooooo glad you came back and asked for this!" I'm like - wait what? You guys actually have it here? The spatula I left yesterday in the parking lot??? Low and behold Ary pulls out an OD Green spatula from under the counter with a sticky note that says "Found in shopping cart (outside) 8/27" BOOM! The universe is right again and something so little and so insignificant has prompted me to write this entire saga as it unfolded in my head and physically at Petco. If you've read this far - thank you for reading and I really want to say thank you to Ary and Petco for not tossing this back into inventory or discarding it in the trash. If these guys take this much care and attention to a $5.99 silicone spatula left in a hot parking lot inside a cart... I DEFINITELY will be back to support this store location and also entrust the wellness and happiness of my puppy with the staff here who clearly care for their customers and have pride in their work! Great job Ary and Petco staff. Kudos to you guys and you will never know how much this small gesture made my day and brought a smile to my face reaffirming that people can be kind and thoughtful despite the crazy world we seem to live in now a days. For many years we took our dog to this location for grooming and presented medical record from the veterinarian that showed our dog with good overall health and a heart murmur. Our groomer left and this time the Grooming Manager did not allow the new groomer to groom our dog. I call the vet and he stated that this was the first time hearing that Petco refused grooming a pet because of a heart murmur. The grooming manager was very rude and I will never take my dog to this location for grooming or to buy pet food! Lost a long time customer!! read more

We've been coming to the grooming here for years for our lab and now our labradoodle. They've always been OK some good haircuts some not so good. This time we had an appointment in the morning, when I showed up they said the groomer was out and that the groomer notified us. That was a lie no one reached out and told us. I had to rush back from something else to bring my dog in and they tell me I have to reschedule. Terrible service total disregard for customer's time and inconvenience. Plus our favorite groomer left there recently so this made it easy for us to never come back here. read more

PLEASE BE AWARE DO NOT LEAVE YOUR FUR kid WITH JET (Jennifer). I walked in to have my 13 yr old choc labs nails trimmed. I was greeted by Jet. What a BAD taste. She was rude and worst of LAZY. She then proceeded to fixate on vaccine verification which had already been verified. After throwing me on someone else she walked away. Petco needs to work on hiring employees who don't care about their break and actually care about customers. She was awful!!!!! However, if you visit grooming ask for Shannon or the girl with green hair. Both are amazing. As I waited for my dog I watched multiple repeat customers for them both and you could tell they cared about the animals. In the end Shannon helped me and I left happy because of her. If I could give Petco 0 stars I would. I had a horrible experience. Me, my bestfriend, my dad and brother came to Petco to buy a bird for me after wanting it for a very long time. My younger brother was traumatized after this experience. We looked around Petco to find the perfect bird, I chose this light blue budgie. We showed an employee the bird we wanted. There was a small storage room behind the space where the birds were kept, and a small frame big enough to put your arm through. The employees went in the room and started trying to grab the bird with their bare hands. Then, they grabbed a fish net and tried to grab the bird. All the birds were frightened. And for a straight 5 minutes the birds were flying around, out of breath, and stressed. In the end the bird was finally captured. He lived a short life of 1 month and passed away from stress and anxiety. read more

Came here yesterday to buy dog food and found they have a limited selection available and that I'd have to go to the Orange store across town. For such a popular location, you'd think they would offer more selection. This store is definitely newer and nicer than other Petcos in the area but I've had poor customer service experience when checking out on several occasions. The health center/vet room is neat. They hold their Vetco sessions in that room and it is nice. Overall, nice and clean store, but customer service staff need better training on how to greet and treat customers. A friendly, helpful attitude would go a long way! Unfortunately, they seem like they just don't care at this store. Also, would be great if they carried the full line of dog food for each brand. read more

Before I even begin, I have to give a huge shout out to Sonya and Ma'gen! These two went above and beyond the call of duty and gave our family the customer service that we desperately needed. I was trying to help my son pick out a new fish after his fish died. I went to a local Petsmart--the one I frequented often--and I got so much scrutiny and drama over the size of my tank. I couldn't believe it--they actually refused to sell me a singular fish! When was the last time you or your child was denied a fish?! I feel a level of shame getting so worked up over this experience but in the same breath you shouldn't have to show your ID, draw blood, and take a polygraph to buy your child a replacement fish of his choice! Here is where Sonya and Ma'gen stepped up. They were the heroes of the night! Instead of making things awkward or difficult, they rose to the occasion and provided good, old-fashioned, quality customer service! They helped my son get the fish of his choice and got us out in record time. Thank you, Sonya. Thank you, Ma'gen. You guys were the best!! read more

5 Stars for Nicki (Nikki?) the trainer, and the staff! I've been doing puppy classes here for a couple months now, and Nicki is awesome. She's very chill and we learn stuff from her that is not necessarily written in the dog book my parents are reading. She has owned doggos herself for a longgg time, so she has tons of knowledge. The other staff members we've interacted with are also super friendly! 4 Stars for the physical store itself, only because every time we come here, it seems there's always some sort of mess (e.g. merchandise that's been knocked down onto the ground, either by a pet or a human, & hasnt been picked up, spills of food, miscellaneous trash on the ground). Most of this is probably more due to Pet Parents not picking up after themselves--I do think this place is understaffed since things dont get cleaned up/put away. Overall, a great petco location! read more

Please do not get your dog groomed here! I brought in my shih tzu to get groomed and left with her hair poorly cut and rashes on her inner eyes because of how CLOSE they cut to her eye. She ended up needing to go to the vet and urgent care (twice) because of irritation caused by the grooming. Since she was so irritated my poor dog was itching at her face and ended up with a scratched cornea and an eye ulcer. All because the ROOT of the problem was her being groomed EXTREMELY close to her eye. Please do not come here for grooming. Spend your money elsewhere so that your dog stays healthy and gets groomed correctly! read more

The point of this review: Melissa is the best!!! Longer part of the review: I have one dog named Riley that I have had since he was 6 months old, he is 8 now and he went to one groomer for his whole life until today. I had moved to Tustin and was hesitant about finding another grooming salon for him because he is a nervous dog in general, but after talking to other groomers nearby and realizing that the customer service was not great (especially for the prices they were asking) I decided to try this petco. Tried and true with great pricing (also where my brother always takes his dog), I took Riley and another dog, Josh. I adopted Josh as a 2 year old in February from a neglectful family, and I have also hesitated in getting him groomed since he reacted poorly at the vet on multiple occasions. When I came to my appointment this morning, I informed Melissa about both of them, and Melissa sat down with them on the floor, walked around with Josh until he was comfortable, and then took them in the back when she was sure they were not 100% horrified anymore. She called me with updates (which other groomers have never done before!!!), and it was the best service I have ever had. You can tell she genuinely cares about both the owner and the pet's comfort, she did a great job. They both came back fresh and clean with adorable bandanas and big smiles. Never have I ever met someone in the pet-service industry that gives as much time or care to my animals as I would, and it goes such a long way! I also heard that the other groomer here today was helping take care of my dogs and make them comfortable. I will DEFINITELY be coming back and giving my business to Melissa. We've been getting our mini labradoodle groomed here for several years and we've never had a bad experience. We've always been satisfied. But I wanted to especially give a glowing review to Kro. Kro is so gentle and has so much love in their heart for animals. It's evident in how much time and tenderness they give to their work as well as how they talk about the animals they get to work with. I always feel safe leaving our dog in Kro's care. My gf and I were passing by and noticed an adoption event was ongoing. We noticed a small chihuahua whose name was Pierre who was super friendly and we started to talk and play with him. The entire time no works/volunteers asked if we had any questions or interest. While playing with Pierre, one of the workers grabbed Pierre and moved him into another play around with other dogs without acknowledging us or even asking if we had questions. She then proceeded to talk to another family asking if they had interest in any of the dogs. The whole experience was off putting so we left. read more

We have been bringing Tuxy here to be groomed since he was puppy and Michael has always been his groomer. He is the only other person who Tuxy doesn't bark at and is actually friendly too..(Tuxy gets nervous around New people) He knows how to take care of Tuxy and knows all my specifics. I love his attention to detail and Tuxy always comes home smelling so fresh that I rub my face in his fur to smell him even more...I know weird dog mom here. So I have a bit of beef with petco. I gave 5 stars because my beef isn't with this store in particular and I don't want anyone to get in trouble because I'm sure they're all great people but this one star for petco itself. As you can see in the pictures that I have provided my dogs are different sizes. One has a better metabolism and the other has a non existent one. I find it unfair that because my heftier dog can't fit into a size small that I have to pay a whole $5 extra dollars for him to be clothed but also the neck is too large for him and his shirts start to fit him like a halter top. The price I paid and the fit are completely unacceptable. I still continue to buy shirts for him because I want him to feel just as appreciated as my other but I beg you petco to start thinking of the small but heavier dogs who want to be comfy in their shirts. Maybe a plus size option? read more

This is a nice location, with an unique entrance. It was fully stocked, not a ton of employees available, but a warm environment. 3 stars because the freshwater fish section had many dead fish and unhealthy mollies doing the ''death shimmy'' swim. However, I thought it was cool that they had zebra loaches available. Not that common in big chain pet stores. I didn't see any clearance section. read more

I come in for Happy returns here & there & I never had issues until one time I came in & there was no one else in line so I walked up to the register & Orlando was super rude & told me I would have to wait because it's going to take a long time to process my return & so he told me to get back into line (There were four people now in line) & he took everyone else & once I got up to the Happy return register he was super rude again but he processed my return super quickly so I was confused why he told he needed to boot up a computer when he didn't do any of that & made me wait for no reason. Now today, I came in & there was this lovely girl Laura & the line was long behind me so I was nervous I'd have to go back in the end of the line again but Laura smiled & she was so sweet & told me she could process my return at the regular petco register. It took all of like 2 minutes & I told her what happened with Orlando & she apologized profusely. It seems like the only issue here was Orlando & the way he treated me honestly ruined my day that day. If you see this man at the register discretion advised as he's not very friendly for a guy working at a pet store. read more

So I took In my Golden Retriever/ Husky to get a hair cut. We asked that they cut it short but not to short that you can see her pink skin. Appointment was at 8AM they quoted me 4 hr due to her being a larger dog. 6 hr later I'm calling to ask if she was ready. Got the impression that they where just starting on her. When I picked her up, this is what I saw. Please look at the pictures and tell me this is a professional job! Hair patches all over the place. How, why! Look at her arm. This is completely unacceptable. The one thing was asked that they don't do, they do. So short that I can see her pink skin. It's not consist. There patches of hair all over. My dog, Jayke was in Petco for just a bath(only).Now he come out with a major eye infection.WTF! As soon as we walked him out of the front door he was pawing over his right eye. With in a couple hours it got even worse. His eye lid is showing a reddish like brush scrape the white of his eye is bloodshot red. Now into the night and green puss in starting. What the hell did this Petco do to my dog. Is this place clean,Sanitary?? I'm freaking pissed off. He's 13 years old and doesn't need this BS. None of us knows what to expect at these places when we drop our family members off for grooming. I just know this he was fine when we dropped him off and now we have to take him to the vet tomorrow first thing in the morning because he obviously in discomfort. Absolutely shut this place down Customer service ? There is none.. these people look at you strange as you come in. The groomers didn't welcome me or say hi or explain the grooming process. I made an appointment online and the I get a text that my appointment was rescheduled for an hour and a half earlier. They should have called me. When I got there I was told I needed his rabies certificate that should have been said before I got there.... She was a complete bitch. There's no warm welcoming vibe. No warm up to my dog just horrible. I asked how long it would take and she didn't even answer me 3 hours later I called them to see when my dog would be done since it was only a basic bath... they told me the groomer would call me in about 30 minutes... another hour goes by and I don't here from them... they finally give me a call and they said " we are wondering if you are on your way to pick up your dog" like wtf I was never given a call to come pick him up... When I got there the lady behind the desk.. some lazy ass girl on her phone just handed me a paper told me to go pay... keep in mind I haven't even seen my dog yet... so I go over to the payment clerk and the girl asks if I was to tip... I was like " tip??? I haven't even seen him yet ???? I finally got my dog and he was so fucking scared like traumatized.... the perfume they used is wayyy to fucking strong especially for a dog... and they never even cleaned his ears... I also come to find out that they don't hand dry the dogs... they use a kennel dryer which a few dogs have died from. That dryer is lethal and is way too loud and traumatizing for dogs.. I'll never go back to you and I hope you all get fired you lazy assholes read more
