A few months ago my husband and I were sick and tired of trying to train our French Bulldog and getting no results. So I found Mike on Yelp and set up an appointment for him to come and train both of our dogs. The Frenchie was the one with the most issues. Mike did an awesome job at explaining why dogs behave the way they do. It was like taking a class on dog psychology! Our dogs responded beautifully! They have so much more respect for us now and listen to all of our commands! Thank you Mike for teaching us how to teach our dogs!

Just wanted to update. It's been eight months since our visit with Mike, and as suspected we only needed one session. Odie is a changed dog, and EVERY DAY we still marvel at how much he changed literally overnight. Best money we ever spent, and if we ever add to our fur family, we're gonna bring in Mike as soon as he's familiar with walking on a leash. It was the best investment we could have made in our VERY spoiled dog. :)

Klouds is calm and able to listen to mommy and daddy. Thank you uncle Mike! ^_~

I just adopted a West Highland Mix (terrier mix poodle) 2 years old at a pound - Klouds. Klouds is a sweet and smart guy. He had potty training before. However, Klouds was very aggressive toward new people/other dogs/ my rabbits/ even my family members. When he was by himself, he did not show any aggressive to other people, not even barking, (he came to pet spa every 2 weeks and the groomer absolutely loved him.). But when he was with me, he was very aggressive. As first, I thought he tried to protect mommy. My friends said they would not come to my house anymore!!! I tried a 1 hr class at PetSmart but it did not work. Klouds barked at that trainer non-stop and he was stil very aggressive after the training. I yelped and found out about Mike Cruz. He came to my house at 7pm and left at 10pm. Mike has a lot of dog training experience, is very logical, funny and absolutely a good listener After the session, my husband and I had to do the Alpha walk homework. Now Klouds is still very sweet, protective but calm and listens to my commands. I feel like I can communicate with him better. Thank you very much Mike!

I just rescued a "1" year old street dog from Mexico. She is an IG/chi mix and very timid. She is friendly to everyone but my husband. She gets really aggressive around him, barking and lunging and has even snapped at him. Can you help?

Please review our website www.thek9mentor.com or contact us by phone (949) 229-2789 to discuss specific training questions. Thank you.

I have a 6 year old chihuahua turning 7, he's always been aggressive towards other people including his household.. only listens to our father + he's very protective over him. My question is, would it be to "late" to get him behavior corrected?

I can train a dog at any age but usually the people need to learn what to do with the dog to change the behavior. If he unwanted behavior has been going on for several years it takes a lot longer to change.

We just adopted 3yrs old Bloodhound mix boy who has super strong separation anxiety. He's been breaking the door frame, blinds, windows, even broke and escaped from his crate while we were out for getting his treats and toys. What should we do...?

You'll want to hire a trainer. Visit www.thek9mentor.com for more info. When you call, the recording that greets you will answer your questions as well.

Hi so I have a 1 year old lab/pit mix who's agressive is this something that can be trained?

Be cautious if a trainer is willing to answer this question without more info first. For me to be able to give you an honest answer, I would need to discuss the situation with you first. Please call 949-229-2789 and I'll be happy to help you out.

Hi! I left two voicemails but have not heard back. Are you accepting appointments? Thanks!

I am. You left one yesterday and one today. Unfortunately I am traveling yesterday and today and will not be able to return calls until tomorrow. I try to get back to clients promptly but it can take a few days at times.

Do you think k9 mentor can help me with my 6 month old pup. I just adopted him and he shows a lack in socialization with other people and dogs. He is also very anxious, do you think he could help me with this problem?

I should be able to help. Call me at 949-229-2789. Please listen to the entire greeting before selecting an extension.

What is the cost for the in-home training?

Do you work with aggressive pure bred rottweilers?

Each situation is different and not so simple that I can say if I could work with your dog. Please call us at 949-229-2789 and we can discuss it further.

Our dog is a shelter dog, and we came to Johnny with a few challenges, including lunging and barking at other dogs and people on walks, crate training, and going to the bathroom in the house. Crate training has been a huge improvement as well, and we've also been able to resolve the issues with peeing and pooping in the house. Johnny is kind and patient, but also confident and extremely knowledgeable. He's great at explaining what he's doing and giving us the tools to continue the training on our own. I'd worked with two trainers, including a 3 week board-and-train program ($5,000 investment), followed every instruction, and practiced daily, yet I didn't see changes. I was managing the behavior without ever understanding what was causing it. That changed within the first two hours with Brad. He didn't start with commands or tools. Instead, he focused on the psychology behind Sunny's reactions: what was driving them, what was reinforcing them, and what I was unknowingly communicating. No one had ever explained it that clearly. That was the turning point. For the first time, I wasn't guessing or correcting blindly. I could see what Sunny was experiencing in real time and understand how my timing, energy, and responses were shaping his behavior. That clarity changed everything. Walks feel completely different now. Sunny is no longer pulls since my training with Brad, the reactive outbursts are gone, and the experience itself is calm. I'm no longer bracing for problems because I know how to prevent them. I am SO appreciative!

A couple of these weren't terribly serious, but we felt we weren't "in charge" anymore, that our dog wasn't getting the message from whatever we were doing, and that if we didn't do something different, it could really get out of control. Brad really helped us with this, where traditional "training" wasn't working. We have two or three things we're working on with our girl, but here is the most dramatic change we had with one issue. She is very food motivated, and would beg from us at the table whenever we sat down to eat, and would be underfoot in the kitchen during prep. She got overly excited and would not settle and lie down. Brad explained we weren't communicating well with her on a dog level, so to get that communication kicked in to gear, he actually started our session not with this problem, but with making sure she would not dash out the front door when it was opened. This was to establish that we were in charge and what was expected of her. What he showed us how to do worked like you wouldn't believe. It was like a light bulb went off for our girl. What we did affected everything after that. It wasn't about dashing out the door, it wasn't about begging for food, it was about knowing what was acceptable in our pack and to look to us for direction. That night, at dinner, she went to her "spot" with a simple direction and was relaxed during our entire meal. She can now be directed to her spot and will stay quietly any time we need her to. Best of all, she seems truly relieved that she doesn't have to be in charge and that WE are. She is much more relaxed around so many other things. It gave us so much more confidence! I didn't think that what Brad taught us would work. It's quite counterintuitive. But trust me, it worked like magic. This is not dog training - it's communication with your dog. Brad answers all your questions, doesn't waste your time, shows you clearly and directly what will work. We're so thankful we found him!

Watching Instagram and YouTube videos won't give you a well-behaved dog. Working with Vladae will!…read more We've been working with Vladae for about four months with our now six-and-a-half-month-old Golden Retriever, Coach, and it has been one of the best investments we've made. What sets Vladae apart is that he doesn't just train dogs, he teaches owners how to build a lifelong relationship with them. Every lesson leaves us with practical tools, clear direction, and the confidence to continue the training every single day. Because of that, the progress doesn't stop when the session ends. Vladae has an incredible ability to understand dogs. Watching him read a dog's behavior, body language, and mindset is genuinely fascinating. He knows exactly how to communicate with each dog in a way they understand, and it's clear this comes from years of experience and a deep understanding of canine psychology. He's also one of the most invested professionals we've ever worked with. Throughout the week, he encourages us to send videos, provides thoughtful feedback almost immediately, and is always available to answer questions or jump on a call if we need guidance. You never feel like you're figuring things out on your own. He truly cares about both the dogs and the people raising them, and he always follows through. Every recommendation Vladae has made, whether it's training tools, techniques, or daily routines, has become an essential part of Coach's development. We trusted the process from day one, and the results truly speak for themselves. (See the videos! Coach is only 6.5 months old in them.) Our puppy is happy, confident, well-mannered, and genuinely loves learning. We receive compliments on his behavior everywhere we go, and we owe so much of that to the foundation Vladae helped us build. We also had the opportunity to work with Erica, who trains alongside Vladae, and she was absolutely wonderful. One session with Erica is included in the program, and it was incredibly helpful. It's clear she shares the same passion, knowledge, and dedication that make this training program so special. Vladae brings unmatched energy, professionalism, and passion to every session. He genuinely wants every dog and every owner to succeed, and that level of commitment is incredibly rare to find. If you're looking for a trainer who truly understands dogs and is committed to setting both you and your dog up for long-term success, I can't recommend Vladae highly enough. Coach has become an incredible puppy, and we're excited to continue into adult school because of the foundation he's helped us build. We're so grateful we found him!
