Javier was SO helpful! He was incredibly friendly, and knowledgeable and he genuinely seemed like he was invested in helping me. I was looking to switch to a new litter (clay clumping to pellet's) and he checked the back for stock for me (I wanted a non-hooded box but there was only a hooded one on the floor), he talked to me about what he knows of the pellet litter personally and helped me decide if it would be a good option for my elderly cat that is having issues with the litter box. Just so sweet because honestly, you have to really care to stand and talk about litter haha! Also, he helped me pick out a new catnip for my Barney and explained why he likes it for his cat and sure enough - Barney LOVES it and even my other two cats are scratching at it! This review is specifically in regards to Tondi in grooming. I have accidentally become the dog owner I used to make fun of, and begrudgingly came to terms with the fact that bathing my Great Dane/Mastiff at home is too much. Tondi is everything an overly protective owner could want! My dog loved her immediately, she's incredibly accommodating and efficient and just generally likable. Besides the fact that my dog really enjoys her, I also appreciate that he always leaves with the most perfect manicure (we pay extra to have them buffed.) She's the perfect example of someone who makes life easier and I'm so grateful! read more

Numerous times I've gone and asked to find a specific product (basking light, night heating lamp, reptile buffet, chiclid food, dog food) for my bearded dragon, two fish tanks, and dog. And no one has helped me, has been knowledgeable about the product I'm asking for and it's such a small store!! Plus they don't have many options, and their crickets for my dragon ALWAYS chirp at night when my beardie doesn't eat them right away. And the lady at the cash register judged me for only getting 10 crickets for my 8" dragon who eats Ellen's and natural foods. This is not a place I trust for the care of my pets, nor do they care for the best interest of the pet or their owner, just that they sell more because they don't believe you know what you're buying. read more

Not your ordinary chain pet store. We stopped by in search of a baby leopard gecko for my daughter and was super-impressed by the service and selection in this store. First, the reptile selection is good and the staff was able to reserve our gecko until we were ready to bring him home (nice bonus!). They also have all the supplies you need in stock and the prices are reasonable. The staff has also been very helpful and knowledgable for this first-time reptile owner. This store also has a 15 day "no questions asked" return policy for reptiles and hermit crabs. Nice to know that if there are any issues early on, the pet can be replaced. One other bonus is the bulk section for dog bones and chewies, with very reasonable prices. This is no our go-to pet store for all of our critters. read more

very happy with the groomers here. my dog is 9, and not a fan at ALL of toe trims.. she has mild arthritis too and just does not like the whole experience... i took her here recently for the first time for a toe trim, and the girl there and another staff member took great care of her and said she was an angel the whole time! that makes me so happy! they must really be "dog people" here and dogs know the difference between those who like dogs, and, those who could not care less :) i truly believe this. 10min later i got my dog and all was well, her toes were clipped very short which we loved. $10. quick. convenient. a win win for everyone :) thanks, 6th Ave Petco. we will def. return read more

Petco 6th Ave & Tacoma Mall stores do NOT rotate their dry dog food stock. They merely place the new bags on top of the older bags of dry dog food. You could be one of the unlucky customers that ends up with very old dog food. I will no longer shop at Petco, I'm going back to Petsmart where they watch expiration dates much closer. Also, Petco's corporate office in San Diego is "off limits" for phone calls. The only customer service staff you can reach is offshore - no thanks! Petco deserves a big fat ZERO. Also, Josh at 6th Ave promised to call me when my Aussie's Blue Buffalo Senior food was shipped in - never heard from him. read more

Finally got a good size pet supply store in North Tacoma. The store is new, so it is kind of expected to still be clean. The have a nice selection of fresh/saltwater fish, birds, small mammals, and are starting to get cats from the local shelter to adopt out. read more

Overpriced and inexperienced sales staff. The very young sales associate had zero dog experience or knowledge of any products. In fact, he didn't seem to have much knowledge of geography after asking where I lived (less than 10 mi) and he balked that I would drive all the way "just to come here!" He made me feel uncomfortable. It was awkward and I won't ever attend this location again. read more

Good selection of dog and cat food available. The customer service is good (not as good as the Petco on 38th in Tacoma) but you can usually find someone to help you if needed. They also have dog training and a mobile pet clinic that visits so often with affordable vet care. Overall a good location. read more

I visited this Petco and had the worst experience possible. I will not be back. There was not one employee at the counter or anywhere in the store. I had one item to pick up, and when I went to the counter, not one person in site. I noticed there 3 or so employees standing in the grooming area. Finally, one person came out and said they could not help me. Minutes later another person came out and said they could not ring me up. I asked to speak to a manager, and she informed me she was but could not ring me up for some random reason. They were very rude employees plus the manager. I will never shop at this location again. The first time I visited this location it smelled so bad in there. Petsmart is so much better in regards to customer service and prices. read more

The store is big and clean but every time I go here they have dead fish floating in their bowls.

Informed the front desk (Heather), while checking out that my dog was actively bleeding, she did not bat an eye so I asked where syptic powder was and asked if there was an open container, she pointed to one in the isle and that she had no open container. I went on to ask if grooming might have some, she said "you could always ask them". Went to grooming, no one was there. After sitting for 5 minutes waiting, I went to get some paper towels to apply pressure to my dog's toe nail as she actively bled all over the floor. A customer asked me if my dog was okay, not one of the 4 employees walking around was concerned that my dog was bleeding. I work as a veterinary technician and this is not what a place that caters to animals should be. I have never been so disappointed and disgusted. If I could give them zero stars I would. We just finished puppy class 1 and are so happy with the results!! Was unsure of doing it here after hearing negative reviews but decided to to give it a try and so glad we did! Trainer Heather is amazing!! So knowledgeable and flexible with scheduling. My 5 month GSD that used to be afraid to leave the house is now so eager to go out and explore and absolutely loved her! She made the classes fun for both puppy and owner and we learned so much from her. High recommend! :) read more

LOVE this store! We are big Saltwater Fishtank geeks and the staff here sure knows their stuff. They always have coral and fish to look at. I love shopping here and best of all I can get my chihuahua's nails trimmed and grinded for a reasonable price...She is SUPER fussy and anxious about getting her nails trimmed but we have always had super friendly, helpful groomers help us that worked great with her. I enjoy it and she (my dog) even enjoys herself, she loves the attention. The workers are all very helpful and kind. If you have any questions they are quick to respond, unless they are busy but they still try to help you. I really like the lay out of the store and love the products. We have two dogs here and both are very spoiled and have sensitive stomachs, so we shop here regularly for everything we need. We like to make it a family event. :-) Over all Petco has great products, this specific location has awesome employee's and groomers. We enjoy shopping here. read more

We've been bringing our dogs here for years to get their nails trimmed. Today, the new groomers were tugging on our dog so hard with their choke collar it busted blood vessels in her eyes! Mind you, she has never seen or had a choke collar on before. Their inexperience in handling of our dog was appalling. We talked to the manager and she pretty much blamed our dog. We have NEVER had this problem before. Petco has lost our business after this experience. read more

We came into this Petco today to get a Beta. We found 3 dead and ROTTING. Several diseased, in nasty water. I took the three dead fish to an employee and told him that they obviously had not been checked in a while. He said NOTHING. Walked off with the dead fish and DID NOT RETURN to check the conditions of the other fish. They are on DISPLAY in a MAIN ISLE. How can you miss this?? Won't be back. read more

If you are looking for a great, trustworthy groomer- do NOT see ASHLEY!!! I brought my dog here to be bathed and cleaned up, but mainly to have her anal glands expressed, which is included in the package. My dog has always had issues with her glands and I can tell when it's time to bring her in by her behavior (and I'm not talking about her "scooting"). I asked the groomer, ASHLEY, to make sure to do this for her, but instead of doing what "the customer" wants and also doing what's best for my animal- she argued with me on the phone and said that it isn't necessary. What?? Is she seriously telling me what is "necessary" for MY dog?! That should've been my cue- but I brought her in anyway, insisting the groomer ASHLEY express her glands like she's supposed to. Well, when I picked up my dog, she was still wet and her fur didn't look thoroughly brushed. I didn't say anything, I just politely smiled, paid and left. When I got home my dog was doing her thing that she does... meaning either ASHLEY didn't express her very well (which I could've understood)- or, that she didn't do it AT ALL. I took my baby to the vet a couple days later, and what do ya know? Her bottom was bright red and her glands were ridiculously full! Livid, I called and called Petco (6th Ave) to inform the manager, Tina, of her horrible employee with crappy work ethic, and she seemed to continuously "conveniently" be unavailable. Although I have been leery of chain pet stores in the past, after getting burned by a couple of our local pet stores who shall remain nameless, I was a bit more open minded when I heard Petco was opening on 6th Ave. I'm very glad I made that decision. This store is extremely clean, well lit, and inventoried with an excellent selection of products. Steve, one of the managers, is outgoing, helpful and courteous. There is always a good flow of customers and the vibe is always friendly. We are now having our bird dog pup trained there under the guidance of Dave the Dog Trainer who might as well be Washington's version of the Dog Whisperer. Our pup has responded beyond our expectations to Dave's training methods and is well on his way to becoming the good citizen we want at home, all the while fostering the desired prey drive we want in the field. We couldn't be happier with our decision to train and purchase our pet care needs at 6th Ave Petco. Fantastic addition to the neighborhood. read more

Poorly stocked for cats. No small pet shirts for anxiety. No Feline Pine for litter, then no Perfect Bistro for food. All in the past 3 months. I will order these things online and have them delivered from now on as going into the store for these hardware items are not worth it. If you want a live pet, that's up to you but for food, you can't count on basic products here. Take care of your pets better by buying online ahead of your needs. I wish I had. read more

I came in the other day, looking around trying to decide what to get my dog. I could barely find anyone around to help me. One of the sales associates I did find was super rude and not helpful at all. She was dark haired and I think her name started with a K. Kitty or katy something. She seemed very inexperienced at what she was doing as well. Kind of seemed like she was just roaming around the store not doing anything and wasn't trying to help anybody. Clearly lazy and she seemed to have an attitude problem like she was stomping around the store or something. I was looking around for quite awhile. Next thing I hear some commotion in the store and your crazy employee, the same one I mentioned in the beginning sounds like she's having some kind of huge conniption fit over something. Her public outburst was ridiculous. Mind you i had a migraine. Your employee was out of control and extremely inappropriate and unprofessional in a public setting. And the man she was talking too didn't seem to be handling the situation very well, he might of been the manager. Anyway, you really shouldn't hire mentally unstable people to work for you because that crap was too much. I think she was upset about a customer too. I didn't know it was publicly okay to throw a fit in your work place when a customer somehow upsets you. Seriously it was embarrassing to whiteness. Not sure if this is how you do business, but she needs to be either fired or something because I don't know if I want to come back to your store in fear of her acting unstable and coming at me next time. And unfortunately i shop here a lot! Now, I probably won't until you hire someone better. And I will definitely stop recommending this store to my friends till the situation is handled. read more
