If you have pets and are looking for a great pet store in Washington, be sure to check out Mud Bay. Whenever I go to see my Dad, I always make a point of visiting either this location (my favorite) or the one in Gig Harbor. When I visited last week, I bought my cats a large bag full of treats and toys, as well as this wonderful Cat Cave. I bought one years ago for my cat Luca but he spent more time laying on top of it than in it, so I gave it to a friend of mine whose cat loved it. But my new kitten Oliver loves to burrow, so I wanted to get him one. Mud Bay carries high-quality Cat Caves, among lots of other wonderful products. They also have lots of helpful brochures, guaranteed to address pretty much any issue you might have with your cat or dog, and for all life stages. I like that they only hire people who are as passionate about their own animals, as I am about mine. The employees are very knowledgeable and always provide excellent customer service. I was hoping to be able to post a photo of the Cat Cave with Oliver in it, but he's still figuring out how to use it. My late wife and I would frequently shop at the University Place location and often found it to be very well stocked, very clean, and well-staffed, who were friendly and helpful. There were a couple of employees that remembered me and my dog, whom I would leash up and go into the store with her. I also have purchased wild bird suet cakes there because they aren't as pricey as the big box retailers. The other Pet Store retailers that are closer to my home just don't have as good a vibe as this Mud Bay store. Keep up the good work! read more

This store has the best customer service I have ever experienced. I learned that they have a weekly cat treat sampler and they eagerly gave me three samples for my three cats to try. They also explained their rewards program and how when you start, you get a free $5 off coupon right away. They also encouraged me to return anything my cats don't eat for a full refund. I worry about refunds because I don't like to contribute to waste, but the woman at the counter assured me that all returns are donated to shelters for other pets to enjoy. This store was so welcoming and clean and the atmosphere was unlike any pet store I've ever been to. This place is a must try. Their toys also look genuinely handmade and sturdy. I really enjoy coming here to spoil my pets. For a few years now, I've been a cat mom. We recently got our pup and I was so excited to shop here even more for doggie items. He's 10 wks so I was looking for treats and toys good for teething or for him to gnaw on. Nick approached me and was very helpful about the products and pleasant to my pup. The staff was so friendly with him and asked to say hi. He certainly enjoyed the spot light! I love the bulk biscuit area, and got one of their buckets for the 15% discount when you bring it in. Prices are very reasonable for the merch on hand. Note that just like some places, things can be hard to get due to the pandemic and the shipping world. I work in the shipping/logistics industry and totally understand it all. The store itself is spacious, clean, and bright. The shopping area can get a bit congested as there are huge retailers nearby, but you will be able to find a parking spot. Great customer service, awesome store, and highly recommended! read more

Ok, so I gave another place that sold more upper crust dog food a try and this time it went much better! Last week I was absolutely furious by a staff member at another pet store that was completely unrelated to Mud Bay and said that I would be going somewhere else. I held true to my promise and went to another store, Mud Bay! Here at Mud Bay not only were the prices more reasonable but they had all of the same brands of dog food that our puppy took an interest in and were good for her! I also found some chew sticks and a toy which I thought she would enjoy. The staff here were SO much better than the last place I went to! I didn't feel hassled or put under pressure due to upselling tactics by anybody which was great and which led up to me leaving the last pet store I was going to. Hopefully this single experience will be the beginning of more great transactions to come! read more

They haven't had in stock what I wanted the last two times I went. Generally they have harder to find dog food and treats. I find their covid policy frustrating. I carry my own sanitizer and use it and don't particularly want to touch the port a potty station they've set up. At least they moved it inside so the water isn't as cold. read more

I love it here! One of the employees, Josh, is my neighbor and is such a great person. For Christmas, he brought my cat Eggo an assortment of samples, treats, toys, and catnip from the store just because he happened to see her on the windowsill. He has made it known to us that if we had any questions about Eggo, he's always happy to help. One reason why I decided to come here is because Eggo, usually a very picky eater, LOVED the treats he gave her for Christmas. I have started buying food for her here, and the prices for top quality cat food here aren't bad at all. They also have a bunch of samples for your furry ones to try. This past weekend Eggo caught fleas which was a first to me because I'm from Nevada, a dry state. We decided to come here because we had no idea what to do! Josh happened to work at the time we came in and was so knowledgeable on how to deal with the fleas as well as future prevention procedures. I learned that fleas. suck. but I'm SO happy we went here because of how accommodating Josh was. I'm sure the other employees are just as great as Josh is. Very, very compassionate about animals and stand by their products. The employees can also bring their pet to work with them which is super awesome! I highly recommend this place! Full disclosure #1: I spoil my cat absolutely rotten. With that out of the way, I need to say that the folks at Mud Bay are complete and total enablers. And I LOVE it! On multiple occasions I've walked in for some litter or food and walked out with new toys, treats, brushes, and just about anything I can get my hands on after getting some new recommendations from the staff. I just wish that they had a feline equivalent of the bulk dog treats. The staff is always 3 steps above fantastic, whether you're looking for a new toy/treat, some info on how to maybe address a kitty who decided she's too good for a litter box, or some other way to pamper your pet. They're knowledgeable, kind, and every time I go in they ask how Booties is doing. I swear that's my furkid's name and they're not being inappropriate. Promise. Full disclosure #2: Booties is a complete and total (lovable) lardass. Moderate pun intended. When I spoke with the vet about potential ways to reduce that, some food brands were mentioned that I hadn't heard of before. When I went to Mud Bay in hopes that they would have it, they didn't, but they offered to order me some to tide over until I could find it elsewhere, which was absolutely fantastic. My vet and I ended up picking a different food for dietary reasons, and they stock that every day. Now obviously all of their literature should be taken with a grain of salt, but I've had some fantastic luck taking the pamphlets to the vet and asking what they think. Typically there's a fair amount of overlap between vet and pamphlet, and it's nice to be able to have info from multiple sources. Mud Bay UP is the place to go if you're looking for middle of the road food and supplies. Granted, you won't see the prescription-quality veterinary diets, but you'll definitely get a cut above Petsmart and the like. And they're prices aren't nearly as marked up as I had initially anticipated. They're fantastic here with great prices to boot. Definitely pay them a visit! read more

This place is great! The staff focuses 100% on their clientele and customer experience. When I got my kitten - I came to Mud Bay to make use of my 20% off coupon provided by the Humane Society. When I got to the register, they gave me a welcome kit with samples of treats and cat food! They also gave me starter information on owning your first kitten / cat. While I was here I also purchased a window-mounted cat bed. Just yesterday (September 13th) it broke due to manufacture defect. I called in today and asked if there was anyway I could exchange it and they said yes! No hesitation, nothing. Just asked me to bring in the damaged one and they would exchange it at no cost towards me. I bought the original one months ago and was shocked they did not mind helping me. Not only did they offer me an exchange without hesitation - they also gave me cat treats when I was leaving! I spend way too much money here. And not because they are overpriced, but because I spoil my dogs! I find their prices comparable to Chewy's and Amazon. Their service is top notch and always super friendly. They have a great selection of dog food and treats. My boys love their beef bones! The only down side of this store is something beyond their fault. That's the parking situation now that Home Goods went in next to Trader Joes. Parking is a hassle. But Mud Bay staff will help you out with your purchases so even if you have to park a bit further away, it's still a breeze! read more

Everyone was SO helpful, the have all the shoppers sanitize before roaming the store, and they are a good balance of letting the customers walk around and they check in with you the perfect amount (not too much, not too little). I've only been to the local Mud Bay twice and both times helped by Kristina. She was really helpful in picking out good teething items for our pup. She explained why this one is better than that. Explained teeth brushing techniques, importance. I felt she was knowledgeable and it was nice that she recalled our conversation 3 weeks earlier and asked how our dog liked the lambs ear. The different Mud Bay stores I have been in have all been well-stocked with healthy food choices for dogs and cats plus they stock the more environmentally friendly cat litters. My daughter's kitty has had health issues and is on a restricted diet. The vet wants me to buy prescription food which I object to on principal and which the cat refuses to eat. (I can't blame him - it smells nasty!) I am able to find healthy alternatives at Mud Bay that he will actually loves and he has been thriving on for over a year! I used to frequent the University Place Mud Bay until the one opened in Sumner but I still wanted to give the UP store a review. Both stores have very friendly and knowledgeable staff which I appreciate. I loathe going to one of the big box national chain Pet stores so I'm glad to have the Mud Bay stores around. read more

A free pound of dog treats - which are all natural - and a $20 coupon towards any dog food. They have SOOO many different options for dog food that vary from grain free, big breed food, small breed food, wet, dry, they have it all! The staff really make the experience there. They all are very friendly and more then willing to help. With talking to one of their employees she gave me 4 samples of dog food that she thought I should try for my two little ones. I didn't realize there was a MudBay in this shopping center until I happened to park close to it (was on my way to Trader Joe's). The staff was very welcoming, answered all of my questions, and offered me some treats and samples to take home to my cat. The store is very clean and they have a really nice variety of brands and types of food and supplies. They also happen to sell the best cat litter I've found so far (MultiCat in the gray bag). Seriously the best cat litter!! My little guy is so spoiled now. I always have a great experience at every MudBay location I've been to, but this store has become my personal favorite. I was debating on whether or not to do a review, but I just can't stop thinking about how sad this place made me. Today is my sweet little guys 2nd birthday, and being the crazy dog parents that we are we were desperately on the hunt for a "pupcake"! Well, I decided to try to find a place that might have them on yelp and Mud Bay was suggested. I took it upon my self to call to make sure. I called them and asked if they have pupcakes/ dog cakes to which one of the ladies working there assured me they do!!!! I was beyond excited and told them we were on our way! Mind you we live in DuPont so this is a good 20-25 min from us, but we didn't mind. Well, we get there and when I walk in I asked where the pupcakes were, the lady standing at the counter (red headed lady) looked at me funny when I asked her and let me know they don't sell those there. My heart literally sunk ,and I let her know I literally had called a while ago and someone assured me they had them. She asked who I spoke to and I said I had no idea, so I pulled up the yelp page thinking maybe I was at the wrong place or had the wrong number, I showed her the page and asked if this was them, she said it was. Our new favorite store ! I was helped right away. The staff was knowledgeable about the products and made recommendations based on my preference. They offered me some samples to take home to try out with the dogs. I have never been to any place that did this. Definitely beats the big box stores like Petco and such. They carry all of the legitimate premium brands. They have a whole section of raw food! The prices for our purchases were LOWER than the online retailers. Even lower than Amazon! Avoid avoid avoid! Bought a toy the cashier assured me was very durable and dog proof- got it home and 5 minutes later my chihuahua had the arms torn off. Plus they only stock junk pet food with super high prices, not veterinary recommended diets. Their treats all sit out and are stale not to mention their cashiers have no training at all case in point, I came in for a soft E-collar for my grandparents larger dog while a hot spot healed- asked the cashier where the E- collars were, blank stare- the what?, E-collars, elizabethan collar, cone of shame. Still blank stare. Walked around until I found an E-collar. Guy at the front- Ohhhh you mean those lamp shade cones. Staff is useless, just push expensive diets and then I end up at the vet with diarrhea. I will stick with Petsmart that carries diets my Veterinarian recommends. read more

A friend at work recommended getting food from Mud Bay when my cat first started showing signs of kidney disease. Food from the vet= High quality ($$$); Food from Mud Bay= Great Quality ($$); Food from a grocery store= Okay Quality ($). The staff was really helpful when I didn't know what kind of food to give my cat to help him. My cat died last week from kidney disease and when I went to return some unopened food without my receipt, they were helpful.
