    Luca's Cat Cave
    Juli S.

If you have pets and are looking for a great pet store in Washington, be sure to check out Mud Bay. Whenever I go to see my Dad, I always make a point of visiting either this location (my favorite) or the one in Gig Harbor. When I visited last week, I bought my cats a large bag full of treats and toys, as well as this wonderful Cat Cave. I bought one years ago for my cat Luca but he spent more time laying on top of it than in it, so I gave it to a friend of mine whose cat loved it. But my new kitten Oliver loves to burrow, so I wanted to get him one. Mud Bay carries high-quality Cat Caves, among lots of other wonderful products. They also have lots of helpful brochures, guaranteed to address pretty much any issue you might have with your cat or dog, and for all life stages. I like that they only hire people who are as passionate about their own animals, as I am about mine. The employees are very knowledgeable and always provide excellent customer service. I was hoping to be able to post a photo of the Cat Cave with Oliver in it, but he's still figuring out how to use it. So here are photos of his Cat Cave, as well as a photo of his big brother Luca showing you how NOT to use a Cat Cave. Luca's Cat Cave came from Mud Bay too. Highly Recommended!!!

    A happy corgi

Amazing store with really solid customer service. I was greeted and welcomed the second I walked in, received great advice, and got new food/supplements for my corgi with sensitive skin and recently acquired tummy troubles. You also cannot beat a handwritten welcome card. Excited to be able to keep spoiling my dog here.

We took our 7-month-old Dachshund puppy, Chewy, to Soggy Doggy yesterday evening for a nail trim shortly before closing time, and unfortunately, the experience was very upsetting for both our puppy and us. During the nail trim, Chewy yelped multiple times in discomfort, which immediately concerned us. What stood out most to me was that the same nail appeared to be trimmed repeatedly several times, and each time Chewy reacted more anxiously and vocally. As a pet owner, I found it difficult to watch, and it left me feeling uncomfortable about the handling process. I understand that puppies can sometimes be nervous during grooming, and nail trims are not always easy. However, we have previously taken Chewy to other grooming establishments, including Petco and PetSmart, for nail trims and have never experienced this level of distress from him before. I was also surprised that during the nail trim, we were asked questions about Chewy's diet and food choices. While I understand businesses may offer additional services or products, I personally felt that the focus at that moment should have remained on carefully completing the nail trim and ensuring our puppy was comfortable and calm. At the end of the appointment, Chewy also left with a noticeable hangnail. We declined the nail buffing add-on service, but even so, I did not expect his nails to be left in that condition after the trim. Overall, this experience left us questioning the level of handling, training, and attention to pet comfort during grooming services. As pet owners, we trust groomers and staff with the safety and well-being of our animals, and unfortunately, this visit did not leave us feeling confident. Because of this experience, we will not be returning with Chewy in the future. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, as gentle handling, professionalism, and pet comfort are extremely important, especially with young puppies who are still learning to trust grooming experiences.

On March 28, I placed an order with Petco after confirming all items were listed as available for same-day pickup or delivery. At checkout, I was then told one or more items were suddenly unavailable and would need to be shipped, despite still showing as in stock. As a 100% service-connected disabled veteran with mobility limitations, I don't use delivery for convenience, I use it when it's necessary. I have a service dog and multiple cats, and this order (over $250) was meant to cover an entire month of food and supplies. On a fixed disability income, that's not a small purchase. Delivery was estimated at three days. I allowed for standard delays. But by day six, the order hadn't even been picked up by the carrier. I reached out to Petco and went through multiple rounds of emails over several days. Each response was vague, with no real answers and no attempt to resolve the issue, just repeated statements that they would "look into it." No replacement. No escalation. No solution. Ultimately, I had to resolve it myself by canceling the order on April 7. Because of this delay, I had to go back out and purchase additional pet food while still waiting for answers, something I was specifically trying to avoid due to mobility limitations. And now I must wait 10 business days for a refund to go purchase my original items. The refund issued also did not match the full value of the missing items. My request included four items, but Petco's response referenced only three SKUs, leaving part of the order unaccounted for. Petco often promotes its support for veterans. That support was not reflected here. What makes this more frustrating is that it's not an isolated incident. I've experienced similar shipping and fulfillment issues with Petco before. And like many people, I sometimes end up going back, not because the service is reliable, but because options are limited. That's the reality with large corporations, sometimes they're the only choice, and you hope the experience will be different next time. This time, it wasn't. At a minimum, companies that position themselves around service and support should be able to follow through on basic order fulfillment, or take accountability when they don't.

If we ever get another puppy, I would definitely consider coming back. Here are some things I would keep in mind if I could do it all over again: Pros: -We got lucky with the timing of when we got our puppy, and were able to get our class package at a discount for Black Friday. -Staff are very friendly and helpful whenever I called in. -I was nervous bringing in our puppy that wasn't fully vaccinated for Puppy Preschool. However, they did a great job keeping up with vaccinations as well as sanitation. -Sudee and Diva were excellent!!! While all 5 instructors that we had were experienced, I think they were the most energetic. I felt that the classes with them were more fun and went by so much faster. -Highly recommend Puppy Preschool. Our Alaskan Malamute was SO shy when we first took him to class. He hid behind the stool and would run away from other puppies that were much smaller than him. By the time he graduated, he was playing with other puppies! The classes also reminded us of all the different things that we needed to socialize/introduce our puppy to. There are so many things that I didn't think of, so I'm glad this class filled the gap. The initial months with our puppy were the most challenging, and these classes did such an amazing job stimulating/wearing him out!!! He would sleep for hours after we brought him back from class, and it was a really nice break for us to regain our sanity. It was also a nice space to ask questions and get reassurance as new puppy parents. All in all, I felt these classes were well worth it and I wish we squeezed in a couple more with our class credits. Cons: -Orientation was not very helpful. It felt like a sales pitch for the larger packages. Once we got home and tried to book online, it was unclear what the different packages were for, and we ended up booking the wrong one. Fortunately, I called in and Walker helped set us up with the correct package. -Our primary goal was to socialize our new puppy in a safe and controlled setting. For this purpose, the 12 credit group classes were more than enough. It felt like a struggle to use up our remaining credits based on the schedule/type of classes. -The website isn't user friendly, but they revamped it so it has improved. -You can't interchange credits for group classes vs playgroups, etc.

They take the time to really get to know your pup and the private lessons are the best I have ever had (and having had 5 rescue dogs with all kinds of issues, I have a lot of experience with other private trainers :p). Speaking of the trainers, they are INCREDIBLE. They are not only the most empathetic and dog-loving people you could meet, but their training and knowledge is off the charts. Again, I have a lot of experience with different trainers and classes and as a shelter volunteer so I spend a lot of time in this arena and truly nothing compares to the team at Zoom Room Tacoma. I have learned more about my dog and about training in general in my few months here than I have in my previous years of different experiences. Plus they make everything fun; jokes and stories get thrown in during classes making the vibe chill on top of educational. My very sweet but painfully shy/hesitant/afraid pup has truly blossomed in just a couple months with Zoom Room and our visits there have become the highlight of our week. If you're looking for training or agility or just a fun place for your pup to get some energy out, this is your place!!
