Petco is fine, but the grooming department sucks! They are disorganized, canceling appointments without telling us. 3 times we have brought our dog in to be groomed and they "don't have him on the books"....wtf! We scheduled today's appointment in February, but apparently they didn't put him on the books...tired of this runaround from the groomers. I hate posting these type of reviews, but, when they cost me money in gas to get here just to screw me, I get upset... I'm not sure why they treat customers like this, but, we just made an appointment with Petsmart and they are happy too see him. Guess this place lost a customer.... read more

First off the parking lot only has one handicapped space, not very ADA friendly. Had to park at the end of the lot and walk up to the store. Thank goodness I'm not in a wheelchair, but for those that are, be aware of that. When we got in the store, we noticed it is very disorganized and was cluttered. It also didn't have a very pleasant odor. We went in specifically looking for clothes and bows for my dog, but sadly they had a very small section and everything was disorganized, no bows either(which was fine). I only ended up getting a nylabone and flea meds for my cat. When we got up to the register line, there was only one cashier for a line of about 10 people, he didn't call for an extra clerk. Maybe he couldn't, but the store had several other employees doing random stuff, or just walking around. The cashier was very nice though and didn't seem stressed or overwhelmed. The only reason I gave the store 2 stars is because of the cashier and his professional composure. He greeted us when we got to the register and said have a nice day upon leaving the store. Unfortunately I do not recommend this store as it's very disorganized, cluttered and the lack of another clerk to help with the long line. read more

All animals in store are neglected. All birds have roughed feathers, are puffed up, and depressed. Came to this location around noon to get dog food listed as in stock online, asked an associate and was told it was out of stock. I went back later in the day around 8pm to get an alternate dog food, and decided to look at the birds again. Both larger birds were in the same exact position, food and water untouched. So if you want to support animal cruelty, head on down to your local PetCo and buy a neglected, sickly, depressed bird for the low price of $799.99. Fish tanks full of dead floating fish too if interested. You will also not find "in stock" items, but that seems less important than caring for your "products". read more

Spoke to them over the phone on Wednesday and was asked to make sure I bring my dogs rabies tag when I dropped him off for a trim/wash on Saturday. Drove an hour from up-river to drop him off and the guy at the desk tells me I need his rabies papers. Of course my vet is closed Fri-Sat-Sun so they couldn't call to verify. Horrible experience, horrible customer service, wasted tons of has because they lied to me. read more

The worst pet store and customer service ever!! Went into the store today, asked where the dog leashes are. The guy was sitting there chatting away with his coworker, said, "yea, I'll be there in a minute. We looked around, waited, guy continued to chat with his coworker, by the way no one was in the store! Guy continued to blatantly ignore us. My husband asked again a few minutes later. The guy said "yeah I'll be over," continued to chat with coworker. We finally found the leashes on our own, no help for this guy. The whole store was picked over. Dropped dog off for grooming and asked Bren that she have absolutely no scent or perfume put on her. Bren said she would tell Lindsey. Picked the dog up and she had been sprayed with perfume. My wife is chemically sensitive and has now had a migraine for 2 days. We had to rebathe the dog when we got home and then wash her dog bed and all the blankets she had laid on while we were at work. That evening we noticed Zoe was not acting right once we got her home and we realized she won't sit on her butt or wag her tail. Something is wrong with her tail. She is obviously in pain. We called the store to politely voice our concerns which was met with no assistance or even a concern for anything we had brought to their attention. We will never return. I wouldn't trust them with my dog ever again. I will be sure to complete every survey and every place I can find to leave a review about this. read more

I am writing this review in hopes that Petco will run their Gateway location in a way where people can safely shop there. I visited the Gateway location with my daughter and grandson. He wanted a fish so we headed to the Aquatic section. I am disabled so I use a cane to help me walk. We were wearing masks and social distancing but it quickly went sour. The staff on July 4th 2020 were not Social Distancing and here comes the reason for this review. The "Aquatics Manger" was walking around without a mask and not Socially Distancing. Not to mention she was cleaning tanks so there was a wet floor and a garden hose covering the crammed fish section. This woman got so close to me while my back was turned, that she grazed my shoulder and said " Sorry." She had no mask on and was not socially distancing at all! My daughter, grandson and myself moved away. From afar I asked the unmasked " Aquatics Manager" if we could get someone to help us get some fish? This woman said it was her department so she could help us. I said I needed an employee wearing a mask to help us. This Pet Co employee told us she was "Medically Exempt" so she did not need to wear a mask. I replied that I am a " compromised" individual who is 8 days out til I have surgery. I can not, nor anyone else be exposed to someone not wearing a mask! The Pet Co employee became instantly irritated with me and grabbed her phone and said "Sure I will get you someone but they won't be aquatic." Eye roll and disrespect is what I received from her. All the while the floor is wet and a hose is a huge trip, slip hazard zone especially for disabled people such as myself. I went to ask for the Manager but nobody came and no one said anything. My family and I will not return to Pet Co ever again. If that employee can't wear a mask then please lay her off. Pet Co at the Springfield location is compromising the health and safety of the general public. 1. Wet Floor 2. Long hose on the floor that did not have a wet floor caution sign. 3. An Employee not wearing a mask. 4. Employees not Social Distancing. The attitude, lack of a Manager to appear when called for and no employees who said " sorry for the wait" " The Manager will be just a moment." I wear a mask, social distance and stay home as much as I can. My grandson had two fish die so we wanted to make him happy but we ended up being treated badly and COVID is no joke. I am 8 days away from surgery and that Pet Co worker could have exposed me amongst others to something that could cause my surgery to be put on hold or make the general public sick or just classic slip and fall case due to the water on the floor and the at least 8 ft hose strung all over the floor and wrapped around shelves. PetCo.......Why? To Jennifer an employee of PetCo, I am glad you saw my review but the response seems very generic almost like a computer responded. Having that employee working on the floor in your store is dangerous to the general public. The lack of social distancing is a danger to the general public. Not to mention the way the said employee's attitude towards us is highly unprofessional. COVID is serious and your company, by my recent visit, shows me that PetCo is not taking proper precautions at the Gateway location. For the reasons I mentioned my family and I shall not return. I have shared my story with many friends and they don't feel safe to shop there either. The health of patrons should be respect instead of being disrespected. Your employee without the mask jeopardized patrons by 1. No mask 2. Having a wet floor with no " Wet Floor" signs 3. Letting a hose lay on the stores floor which was extremely hard for me to get around because I have a disability. The hose was wrapped around a display and laid on the floor with multiple tripping hazards. 4. I asked to speak with the manager and no one came or updated me if the manager was coming in a minute or two. I was ignored. So here comes the major problems.......COVID precautions were not taken, trip hazards, wet floor without signs and the staffs demeanor. Nothing that sets this store apart from other petcos but they have generally good service and selection. Staff is respectful, prompt and friendly. Kitty litter refill station as well as treat (price by the pounds) for dogs. Food variety from puppy to senior but no giant breed food. Kitties to adopt. Well I call up trying to get my cat in for just for nail clipping they won't even answer their phone so I don't recommend them at all

I took my dog last week to get groomed he is a healthy 5 year old Siberian husky. When we picked him up the staff was super nice until I noticed he hadn't been trimmed up and as he was walking through the store his hair was flying off him, I obviously did not want to tip especially after I had just paid $93 for what seems like just a bath. he went for a bath and de-shed. Did not look like he was deshedded at all. We left and the next morning my dogs hair on his bottom is falling out he has huge bald patches on his lower back and he is shedding worse than ever. He's been to a groomer before but never this one. I would not recommend anyone take their husky there. read more

Don't waste your time. This place is not only understaffed but they waste your time! You can't find any associate to help you other than the register gal. In between trying to help customers she is also fixing up the aisles while the only other lady I saw in there disappears and ignores you. I wanted to set up a simple fish tank. 30 fucking mins trying to find someone to help me. In the end I decided my time would be better spent somewhere else because the lady wasn't helpful at all once she was called out to help me. DO NOT GO HERE! (Its close to home?!) 1st/2nd attempts: I keep expecting things to change, be priced well/competitive (Ha!) to have the staff informed, or at least to come back with an answer or maybe with another employee that knows. 3rd attempt: Was unfortunate that the manager in the office was to busy to help an employee (who was pretty much the only salesperson on the floor) - to help with questions on cat/dog foods. He handled it sincerely though, wasnt his dept...and it wasn't a fault on him. BUT seriously huge lose on sales for store. 4th attempt: Dead fish. That's sad. Dead fish that stay there all day, that's really bad. Dead bettas, sick bettas- bettas sitting in dirty water... and I have to point it out. That's sad. How hard can it be to pay attention and care? I'm not even a super fish obsessed person! (Yet) Animals for adoption with unclean kitty boxes, which, that's fine but somehow didn't seem attended to. Staff to busy with displays? 5th attempt: Called to verify a product was carried, Yes! Got there. Nope. They said they misunderstood. K. Asked if they met competition prices (3$ less at Petsmart) on another product. Nope. I'll be driving the extra miles to go to the other pet supply places instead. I have been to this Petco a few times now, and I love it. I like this store because they seem to be stocked with more variety than their other store. Their staff is pretty well trained and seems to be knowledgeable about the foods they have, and it is service with a smile. I recently had to change to a salmon based food for my fluff ball and went to many different pet food stores looking for 2-3 different brands. I had been researching them for skin issues. Petco carries Merrick, which was one of the brands. The lady helping me out said if my picky dog does not like the food then I can take it back. Well I bought her the salmon treats, dry food, and the wet food. Well she only likes the dry food. Looks like I need to make a trip back to try out another brand of wet salmon. Shhhh don't tell her but she is an old lady at almost 16 human years, and doggy well.... We won't go there. My Princess is already showing signs of skin relief with it being a week and a half. She has never suffered skin issues, until now. I hope making the switch to the salmon food will help. I live on the other side of town, and feel it is worth the drive to this store just for the service, and the variety they have to offer. read more

Rescued a baby Bearded Dragon this store sold to a young adult along with improper housing supplies and care information. Too small of a vivarium, loose walnut shell substrate (causes impaction), and pellets the beardie has no interest in eating (should be fed live insects and veg). No UVB lighting, no calcium/d3 supplement, etc. The poor lil dragon would probably have had a short and unhappy life. While we are getting a dubia colony established, have been buying live crickets, etc. Their live crickets are already on the steep side at $5.50 for 36. Picked up 2 of these packages, got home and went to transfer them to a bug bin, and one of the packages of 36 had a grand total of 2 live crickets! Do your own research on animal housing and care before buying a pet, don't trust the advice these big chain stores hand out, and preferably shop at the small independent shops where the owners and staff are more likely to care and be knowledgeable about the animals they stock (and generally offer better deals on animals and feeder insects). read more

Was in the area last night and I stopped in around 5:30 to potentially purchase a beta fish. Was hoping to get some help on aquariums and a heater to get started and nobody acted like they wanted to help me. Finally seen an associate that was maintaining the fish tanks and he wouldn't even leave his station to come help me with my questions. I was yelling at him from aisles away with my questions. I couldn't really get good help, so I just finally left without purchasing anything. Very poor customer service in this store. Much prefer PetSmart. Their customer service is top notch. read more

A month after I moved to Eugene, I was thrilled to attend the grand opening of Petco at Gateway Mall. The employees are knowledgeable, and there is a great variety of pets and pet related merchandise at this location. I picked this location to purchase my 2 male rats from, the other locations that I went to only had females available at the time. I have a fun time browsing the large, clean, organized, and well-lit store for new things to treat my pets to. and seeing the cute dogs in the store with their shopping owners. read more

Made my disabled 11 year old cry on her birthday manager was so rude will never come back

So my husband and I tried to go to petco on Christmas eve right before noon. Needed a few last minute items for our animal children. I was having trouble finding an item we wanted and asked an employee for help. She was also unaware of where to find it and asked the manager for help. I believe she said her name was Cindy. And this women couldn't even give us the time of day. She seemed extremely annoyed at the fact that we were even there. And was barely giving one word answers. I don't feel like we were being difficult but that fact that she treats customers that way regardless is wrong. For this I will not be going back to this petco read more

A nice, clean place... which I wouldn't normally care much about, but a decade ago I got fish with ick - more than once - from the Petco near VRC, and it's been a sticking point ever since. The tanks (and the rest of the store, for that matter) are far better maintained here, though. Aside from that, it is what it is: ferrets, birds, lots of reptiles, etc. Though the funner aspects of the place were surprises like "The Treatery" (a Winco-esque dog buffet setup by the front door), and the bizarre cat litter refilling station in the back left corner of the store. I'd be lying if I said the thought hadn't crossed my mind to take a dump in there myself, it looked so inviting. On the downside, though, the fish selection is pretty basic, and while I suppose it's good that there aren't any "puppy mill" situations involved due to the lack of dogs & cats there, pet stores always feel empty to me without either of these two staples of American pet-dom. That, and the people working there pretty obviously don't like their jobs. I'm not big on greetings & all that crap necessarily, but still... try to stifle your frustration with your bleak existence between cigarette breaks a tad bit better, okay? Worth visiting. Just nothing spectacular. Though if you're feeling squirrelly, maybe scarf a bag of prunes and then run to that litter station in the back to see if you can leave a "tip" without getting caught. ;) read more

Well to let all know, nothing was ever done on this matter. My husband and I got the run around from supposedly a manager of petco corporate and he states, "well if you have your receipt we will refund you", and I explained to HIM "no but we're in your system because we've used petco for years". WOW, imagine this, he can't find us in his system even though we have used petco since 2001. Careful public, petco WILL delete any incriminating anything to cover themselves. They can now KILL your family member and deny everything after you've been deleted from their system. I truly thought the FEDERAL LAW for business is they have to keep records of everything since I truly think the IRS would like to know that they keep nothing that can damage them in any court. This is the WORST Petco I have been to. To start with the problems that keep adding up from this experience I had UNKNOWINGLY bought expired food for my dog. Once home I had realized and had to wait until the following day after work for business goes to go in and exchange the item. The following day I go in to grab the same food item to exchange with my spoiled one and the employee persistently tells me that I have to do a return for the transaction. She didn't know anything about what she was doing and now I will have to wait 3 business days for the transaction to be added back onto my card. NEVER GO TO THIS STORE!!! read more

This is probably the worst petco ever! They sold me a feeder mouse that had parasites in it!!! It was skinny when I first bought the little guy and then he got fat and stuff in his stomach starting moving, mean less to say he died this morning. I went into petco today thinking about adopting a kitten. When I asked if I could hold one of them the employee said I couldn't unless I was seriously interested in adopting that particular cat. Like how would I even know I had a bond with the cat without holding him first? I'm not sure how petco expects to adopt out their animals without giving their customers any interaction. The cats' cages were also filthy. Definitely not the best experience. read more
