I've been a Petco customer for years, but just for dog food and toys, etc. Never grooming. We've always had dogs with flat coats that we could shower at home and never needed grooming. But this summer we adopted a chihuahua mix that had got a bit fluffy and needed a haircut. I didn't know what to ask for, so the groomer (Carlos) gave some recommendations, and I went with his plan. I was a little surprised that the whole job took more than 2 hours, but they have a process that enables them to handle multiple dogs simultaneously. I was a little worried that our puppy would freak out in his first haircut, but he came through it fine. Kudos to the staff for their professionalism. Pro tip: call the store directly to make an appointment. That way you'll get all the details right, even if you're already in their online system. Also, show up on time. They get busy, and the groomers will spend time with you to discuss your options if you haven't put them in a hurry. Caveats: This was my first experience with the grooming services at this particular Petco. YMMV. I've had good experiences with the retail staff there as well, but like any retail store these days, sometimes they're understaffed. Nevertheless, even the retail staff have been knowledgeable about their products. read more

Jasmine in the fish/reptile area very well may have saved my jumping spider lol. I asked her for advice because my new lil spider was not eating her mealworms. Girl was on hunger strike I swear. Jasmine took the time to find me the tiniest crickets possible and let me have a couple just to try out. Worked like a charm, my spider ate it up and is already eying the second one. She responded with "nope what a shame" and walked off. This company can keep all these dead betta fish but can't help them or attempt to make the living conditions better! FOOD & TREATS This Petco has a wide selection of the wet food brands we use as toppers for our hound dogs, Hills Science Diet. They also carry our hounds' favorite dental treat, Whimzees. They sometimes go on sale at Petco, so it's good to have a bargain. Good selections of toys and dog chews. GROOMING We bring our dogs here for grooming, which has been a great experience. We've taken them three times for baths, and they're getting used to the staff. The staff, especially Will, is patient with our dogs. He's able to learn their needs and adapt. I had an appointment at 5:40 PM at the Vetco on El Camino and arrived around 5:45 PM with my dog and two children. The moment I walked in, I was immediately canceled and turned away. No grace, no empathy, no attempt to help. The vet tech Stephanie was extremely firm, rude, and dismissive. She claimed I was required to arrive 10 minutes early, yet there were still other customers actively being seen ahead of us. They don't even close until 6:00 PM, which made it very clear that I was pushed out so they could wrap up and leave on time. What made this even worse was that another staff member was willing to take us in but was told not to, and she actually apologized to me because of how the situation was handled by Stephanie. That alone says everything. This was an absolute waste of my time and completely unacceptable customer service. Especially for a veterinary clinic where people come with pets and children. I made the effort to show up, only to be denied service on the spot without compassion or professionalism. This is hands down the worst customer service I have ever experienced at a vet. I will never return, and I do not recommend this location to anyone. One star is too generous--this place deserves zero stars for how this was handled. read more

I thought I was happy with my service but when I came home my dog had orange all over his belly, spots of it on his neck and back (he's white and black) that turned out to be a powder that the groomer spilled on him? They returned him to me not fully cleaned considering there is orange all over him! Would've appreciated them doing their job and cleaning it off. In regards to the employees, they were very unprofessional and made me very uncomfortable as you could clearly see them gossiping, laughing, and staring. When we walked in the store was extremely disorganized and its selection for cat items is tiny compared to the size of the store. I thought it would be a cool opportunity to check out the animals and possibly convince my girlfriend to get a lizard or fish. As we were looking at the lizards and debating what would be easier to care for, two employees rudely walked in front of us without acknowledging us or asking if we had any questions. We would've definitely left with a new animal had they engaged with us. I do want to commend Terri. She had impeccable customer service and a can-do attitude. She noticed the line at the register was getting long and jumped in and opened a new one. She also assisted her coworker with a hard transaction to keep the line moving. I came here to get vaccines for my dog and arrived at 5:14pm sending my notification via text as instructed. My appointment was at 5:35pm. I kept receiving the text message to statey arrival. Finally I went in at 5:33pm and of course my dog urinated so I clean it up. There was a whole shyt show with the garbage, thank you to the stagger that helped. I get over to the vaccine area at 5:37pm as I'm going I receive a notification saying I missed my appointment! The staff in that sections tells me the doctor is gone. I am PISSED! I leave and then I'm think we'll what time did they leave? I go back in and ask and she tell me he left at 5:35pm. Make this makes sense. I was so pissed off all I could say was did they really?! Lazy. I came in here on a Saturday after Black Friday at 8:25 PM. Asked a worker if I could purchase a couple of birds that were part of the Black Friday sale. Took the person five minutes to find someone to find a person who knew what the process was. When I was introduced to the knowledgeable person, I asked if I could purchase two birds. He told me that they don't sell birds within 20 minutes of closing. I looked at the clock and it read 8:30 PM (they close at 9:00 PM). Here's how our conversation went: Me: "Cool, we have time." He says: "No, we aren't selling birds tonight because we are about to close. " Me: "But it's only 8:30 and we have 30 minutes." He says: "Sorry, we are closing soon. Just come back tomorrow." This review is specific to their grooming services. I took my dog in for a bath and from the moment we walked in they were attentive and provided great customer service. The people working there clearly care and love animals! My dog happily left with the worker and they were all greeting him as he passed by. My dog had a bath and nail trim in Jan 2024 his nails did not look trimmed. He had irritation on his skin that led to excessive scratching and wounds and he needed vet care and all these months later we are still having issues with his skin and it has now passed on to my other dog that wasn't even groomed there. Reading these reviews now they clearly have sick animals there, mistreat animals and must not sanitize brushes and instruments they are using in between pets. I've never been able to use the service because they always find something to refuse my dog. The attendants are always extremely unwilling to work. Honestly I'm not even sure how this store functions. There are boxes and carts full of products everywhere. Some aisles and end caps you can't even move past or through if 1 other person is there because it's half blocked or see product because it's completely blocked by unloaded/disorganized product. At the front there were 3 employees all sitting down on various things and the cashier checking out a customer was also sitting down. So strange and I have never experienced this kind of terrible organization and management. The only reason this is not 1 star was because the attendants at the grooming station was clearly working hard and doing their best but seem overwhelmed. This review will be for a few things about this location. Customer Service This location went above and beyond to help me with my Pals Reward situation and my multiple accounts situation. The manager at the grooming salon called customer support and stayed with them until they credited my grooming visits. They ended up giving me over $60 in credit. Awesome service. They also made great training suggestions which takes me to the next review. Training We been to Petsmart and other private training locations with mixed results. We are so glad to have found Josue. He has been so great with our energetic Doodle and she is learning so much. He explains everything and is so patient. Our dog is a different dog with him and now is growing to be a great companion. We are planning on staying with Josue for more training and to do service dog training in the future. Grooming Our Malshi has been going here for over a year now and Angelina has taken great care of Butterscotch. He always looks his best here. I have a love/hate relationship with Petco. I love shopping in their stores but their prescription department needs to be revamped. They don't let you communicate with the pharmacy and the CSR's and Managers are clueless in helping to resolve problems. Especially ones that both myself and my vet have addressed for months. At some point the need to step up their game. People don't have time to keep resolving the same issues over and over. Please make a way for clients to talk directly with the pharmacy. GROOMING REVIEW: I get my dog bathed every 2 weeks. Jasmyne H is just amazing! All around such a kind, caring, and understanding person. I ONLY use her for my dog. I have not taken my dog anywhere else in YEARS. I refuse. My dog is not a fan of any salon but she loves Jasmyne. Plus Jasmyne is always so great about communication, has her done in a timely manner, and has taken me in last minute which is a HUGE plus. I do not recommend this location. The grooming is closed during random times usually due to understaffing. My most recent experience I went in for a nail trim and they made 3 OF MY DOGS NAIL BLEED. They didn't even tell me. When I went to my car I found blood everywhere on me and my car. They're careless with their work. Also when I went to check in for the nail trim all three dogs getting trimmed were ALL SCREAMING AND CRYING. Do you want your dog to experience that? I'm specifically reviewing the dog training offered at this location. Josue was fantastic. I took my almost 3-year-old rescue dog to the six week fundamentals class. This was after having paid for private training somewhere else that just didn't work for me. Josue is excellent at explaining the techniques and helping you, the human, figure out how to implement them. Since we all know that "dog" training is really human training. When I first looked into local training, I assumed that whatever was offered by Petco would be crowded and not good. I was wrong. My class was limited to four people and only 2 to 3 showed up every time. The facility isn't great. So that's more reflective of the price that you pay. After asking her questions regarding the grooming policy that I was putting my initials on and then signing . Nikki became so rude and obnoxious that she was going to cancel my appointment and refuse me service. I asked to speak with the manager. However we went track to buy our 6 yr old son and 3 yr old granddaughter their first goldfish. The attendant gave us a hard time for not buying a filtration system tank for the gold fish. I scheduled an appointment here for my dog to get a bath, trim, and teeth cleaning and they did such a poor job it is absurd. They had trimmed his fur so low that his skin is showing, with the underside poorly shaved and uneven on many sides. His breath did not smell better at all after his treatment either. I would normally let a bad haircut go, but they cut a big gash very near my dog's genitals which has me worried about possible infection. We had moved to Sunnyvale from NY in August 2014. I tried the Sunnyvale Pet Smart 3 times, and they did a ok enough job, but never listened to me about how short to cut my dog's hair, so I wasn't thrilled with them. I had shown the Pet Smart groomer a picture of my dog each time of how I wanted his hair cut, but I didn't have much luck with them. My husband and I were randomly in Petco one day and we were given a discount coupon to try the groomer at their store. My Shih Tzu Teddy had 3 appointments with Megan from Spring-Summer of 2015, we were very happy with her work. I showed Megan a picture of my dog with one of his good NY haircuts and she was able to perfectly replicate the cut. Megan was very personable and a pleasure to work with. I had nothing but positive experiences with the grooming staff at this store. We are moving to LA, so I am bummed that I won't be able to take Teddy to Megan anymore.
