Do not take your dog here for handstripping.
    J. Y.

This post is long overdue. And now that I just left a stellar review for Canine Showcase, it reminded me to leave one for this place. Sadly, you cannot leave 0 stars. Do not bring your dog here for handstripping. Even though Yumiko says she can. SHE CANNOT. I brought in my Norwich Terrier for a handstripping and she came out looking like a beat up Westie. It was so insane. I paid in advance because someone else was picking her up. I wish I hadn't because if I would have picked her up myself, I would have taken her and walked out. She would have had to call the police. My poor dog was so sheepish and so tender to the touch - she even had major bald spots. It was awful. I asked for a refund and she refused. Finally she said she would give me half back (it was $140). And when she did, she still said, it was not her fault - that she was not taking responsibility for it. I don't even know how that works in her mind but whatever. I'm sure Yumiko is fine and capable with clippers, but do not trust her to handstrip your wirey-haired dog. I will attach a few photos. Her leg hairs are long, her back is thin and short, and you will see her bald spots. Google a Norwich and you will see how crazy this handstripping was.

Indy, our Coton de Tulear, after a bath by Yumiko
    Crystal C.

I have a Coton de Tulear, which is a fluffy long-haired white dog that is pretty difficult to groom. We like to keep his hair on the longer side, which makes it even harder to maintain. I once read a comment on some random website where a groomer said they refused to work with Cotons because their hair "mats from just sitting there", or something like that. Yumiko came highly recommended to me by the breeder from whom we adopted our dog, Indy. Many of Indy's siblings and cousins use Yumiko's grooming services as well. When she grooms Indy, his hair is ultrasoft and stays silky for a long time. I wish I could learn her secret! Whenever my I bathe and condition him, his hair feels coarser afterwards and it doesn't take long for mats to start developing again. Indy does this "smiling" thing where he shows all his teeth, which he only does when he sees people he really likes. Yumiko is one of these people. :)

My shiba going in for his monthly bath & brushout
    Bekki L.

I've been bringing my shiba here for monthly bath/brush out and the occasional boarding since 2003. Unlike chain stores, the groomers here are experienced with grooming show dogs and acknowledge shibas are "weird" about getting wet or having their paws touched, and may scream bloody murder (though mine's mute). While the ownership has changed, the grooming staff has remained the same and I can't say enough good things about Tina and Justin. I also appreciate the owner Janet's flexibility in fitting us in at short notices. Anyhow, the main reason I love them is they care enough to give me feedback out of concern for my fur kid's health. For instance, there was a while when I had my fur kid on Advantage monthly, and he started to bald/thin around his shoulder blades. Tina noticed the change and suggested I might want to consult w/ the vet. Another time I was trying to get the fur kid to loose weight and went overboard, they gently suggested he was on the thin side. They respect my input to either shave my shiba's pads or leave them alone depending on seasonality, and do a good job with his nails. Other than the place occasionally smelling more like cats than I'd like (I suspect allergies or sensitivity on my part), and I can't fault them for hosting rescue cats who need forever homes, I'm really surprised by the one-star review.

I loved this place about 2 years. And today was the second time terrible haircut for my westie. His hair look like they are patterned. I'm very disappointed! I will no longer give my dog there

Bald and bloody. What did you do to my dog
    Serena S.

I was really excited about being a regular costumer here based off it being close to my house. I brought my dog here for the first time for a hair cut. I told the guy exactly what I wanted. A short cut with a top notch. He tried to talk me out of it. I wasn't sure why. I came a few hours later to pick up my dog and everything looked good. The person who cut her hair said everything went well and my dog did great. Later when I went home I noticed an inch and a half cut on her tail. It was completely bald and bloody. It looked as if someone had dropped the clippers on her. The rest of her fur was about a third of an inch so it was weird that there was a bald spot that big. I called to complain and the lady that cut her hair tried to explain to me that sometimes the skin tears when they brush out knots. But then why was it completely bald? If they brushed it out why was the hair missing? If they had told me when I picked her up that they accidentally cut her it would be a different story. But the fact that they tried to cover it up... I'm livid. I do not recommend this place. I took pictures of her tail as proof to post on here. Hopefully it will let me.

    Love my dog's hair!

First, he has no assistant, so when the dogs are there for hours, they aren't able to go outside for a potty break. Second, he is often late for an appointment when we are the first ones to arrive early in the morning. In at 7 am and out by 1 pm if your lucky, is a long time for an old dog. Three, he is overpriced and increased his prices without notice a few times. The last straw was when he had given me a card for an appointment for her and when I checked with him the night before he said he didn't have her scheduled. I sent him a pic of the card and his response was "I've done that before". No apology, just here's her next appointment. I rescheduled her once, though he contends I rescheduled her twice. He has a short memory. Also, what is the point of having an appointment if he is going to take walk-ins while the dogs sit and wait in cages? One time while he and I were talking, he put my dog in a cage and forgot to lock it. She is old and blind. She started to escape and almost fell to the ground. Thankfully he caught her in mid-air. Since my husband picked her up the last time she was there, I simply asked him to tell Mark that she wouldn't be back. I heard nothing from Mark until about a month and a half later. Out of nowhere he sends me this insulting, arrogant, and ridiculous rant of a text message (see below). He thanked me for no longer being a client, said how he felt sorry for my dog, and that he appreciated the passive aggressive way I "dismissed" him. I used him for almost 10 years. The long and the short of it is that while Mark's work is good, his customer service lacks considerably. He is bitchy, often in a bad mood, unfriendly, and arrogant. His filter doesn't work well either. Downright insulting. If you don't mind having an appointment and having your dog sit in a cage for hours without a bathroom break, go for it. I think it's time he give-up grooming because it's clear that it's become more of a job to him, not a passion.

Unfortunately, I'm quite disappointed with the quality of grooming provided, especially considering the $150 price tag for a standard groom. I've tried two different groomers, and both have had limited English skills, which has led to communication issues. One groomer completed the grooming in just about 20 minutes, resulting in an uneven haircut that was far from satisfactory. It seems like they always leave something undone--whether it's trimming nails or expressing anal glands, both of which should be standard services included in the price. It's concerning that the appointments feel rushed, raising the question: how can a thorough grooming be done in such a short amount of time? I've attached a picture from my dog's most recent grooming appointment, highlighting the unevenness of her coat. I had high hopes for this service, but I believe there's a significant need for improvement in both the quality of grooming and attention to detail. Sadly, I can't recommend art Pet Grooming for the Central Valley at this time. Edited in response to the owners commentary below: we've had our dog groomed several times. The above review is the final straw and a summary of the experience with multiple groomers through Art Pet. Not specific for Bea. She was a nice person. The haircut was done by her. The previous groomers and Bea have asked my husband to come to the van told hold Teddy during aspects of the grooming when requested. The image is of careless grooming. Not as a result of safety concerns. In fact, yesterday, my husband held Teddy while she trimmed his nails. Thank you for offering a refund in your emailed response . We decline the refund. We would like your employees to do better and groom with a conscience.
