I've taken my dog here several times for grooming and I've purchased dog food here. The people are nice and I have zero complaints about the grooming services. Very nice. The thing that stands out is how nice the people are. I don't know if they're paid more or if they're treated better in another way, but it makes a huge difference. Thank you. read more

Stopped by after work to grab a few things to make my dog feel better as she's having stomach issues. I enjoyed talking with Angel for a little bit. She was knowledgeable and had her own story to share, which made me feel comfortable about what my dog has going on. When I walked outside, I took a shopping cart with me and one of the gentlemen on break walked it back. This made me realize I had forgotten a bag that he was so kind to run back in and grab. read more

We had the absolute BEST experience shopping at Petco Carytown in Richmond! The store has an excellent selection and offers amazing customer service. Celeste was especially wonderful, going above and beyond to help my daughter choose her new pet hamster. :) We visited frequently leading up to "adoption day," and every time Celeste took time to chat with us and answer all my daughter's questions. She truly made this special event even more special, and we are grateful to her and Petco Carytown! We plan to continue to stop in for all our hamster needs, as well as, a fun shopping experience for our whole family! read more

I'm very disappointed with Petco overall. I went to the website clicked to only show me same day delivery, ordered same day delivery to get items for my dog since I recently had surgery and I'm unable to drive. One of my three items (treats) only made sense if delivered with one of the other items (treat dispenser) and that was delivered. The other two items are pending shipment. I only clicked the same day delivery option for all of the items. I called customer service to cancel and was advised they would request a cancellation-I never asked for them to be shipped but I have to request cancellation? I know this seems unhinged but I'm now paying double what I would have paid if I ordered the same items from Amazon. Never again. read more

I've shopped here and it's a nice store, however after today's experience my husband and I will definitely reconsider shopping here. When my friend has to call me and BEG me to go to her house, get her a spare uniform, and bring it to her because the ASSISTANT MANAGER JOSH won't let her go home and change really quickly after getting COVERED IN GUINEA PIG BLOOD, that just shows me how little they care about their employees. I have bought my hamsters and supplies from petco, I've met the staff here and it has been a great experience, but having employees at work walking around in animal blood is a biohazard and heartless. You can't even let them go change really quick then come back?! Or keep spare shirts on hand?! Absolutely disgusted is an understatement. read more

Joy is an amazing pet groomer! I take my cat to get bathed by her every once in a while, and she's just an absolute angel. You can tell how much she truly cares for animals and treats them with the utmost care. She's very sweet, funny, and helpful! read more

This location is amazing! About two weeks back Joe took a frantic call from me, my Siberian cat had fleas and I was in tears! Joe calmly explained my options over the phone and eased my panic by promising to be here when I would arrive at 8:40. Sure enough, he was there with the best and not unreasonably priced options. We discussed the best natural options for sprays and what might be best collar or drops etc. Today my house is 95% better due to his helpfulness and the products petco carries! I stopped in again today and lo and behold Joe was there again! He helped me grab some more spray and some toys to keep my Kitty in a better mood! Last but not least he made sure I used my account which I totally forgot about due to panic (both times) and saved me $$!! Thank you Joe!!! read more

My grooming experience at this location was the worst !!! I guess that's why they had availability at such a short notice. Took my silky terrier for a haircut dropped her off at 8:30 in the morning and she wasn't ready until 2 o'clock! Once I received my pet she was shedding and had an uneven cut, everything looked rushed so I spoke with the groomer and had her do a big shop because she messed my dogs hair up I could be versatile with a new look for her ! Never going back and she didn't get a tip I should've been compensated read more

I visited the Stafford, VA Petco yesterday. I wasn't sure my choices were the best as I got online to pay for them. I didn't ask the store associate for advice. However, my cashier, Katie, asked me what kind of animal would use my choices. She confidently told me that the enclosure I was purchasing was not a good choice. Katie told me what would be more appropriate and explained the reasons why. She was very knowledgeable about small animals, their behaviors and their needs. I appreciate Katie's concern and knowledge. I have visited this store several times and have always found the store associates to be knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. read more

So I have been getting my dog serviced at @Petco for YEARS and never have I ever had someone cut my dogs leg THIS bad. The negligence and ignorance of the staff at THIS Petco is disgusting. I will NEVER be bringing my dog back to this place EVER!!!! They couldn't even finish the grooming because she had been cut so bad. WORST PETCO EVER! read more

I have been to MANY dog groomers in and around Richmond for the past 20 years or so with Miniature Schnauzers and now a big energetic Golden Doodle. Some have been ok, none I would describe as very good until I found Teresa at Petco. She is skillful, and that's very important, but more important is her demeanor with the dogs. I think that's why her "clients" come out looking and feeling so good. Once you know her work, you can easily spot Teresa dogs. They're the best looking ones around. Do yourself and your best friend a favor, go to see Teresa. read more

Have been going to Petco for a few years. Sara did a super job grooming little Charlie! Usually use Teresa, who was out ... Sara had an opening and she even brushed his teeth (: I think everyone there is great at their craft. read more

Came in to get some dog food, it was supposed to be an in and out visit. When I went to pay I saw a huge cat condo tower on clearance. It was marked down by 50%. I mentioned how cool it was and my cat would love it but was still a little too expensive. The manager went above and beyond to get me additional discounts which I caved and bought it! He helped me try to load it into my car which did not fit. Hahah I had to go home and get my truck because it was so big, he then walked back out and helped load the cat tower into my truck. Super awesome staff there. Glad to have them. read more

first time stepping into this petco and it was such a good experience. I was looking for a particular item that was for $9.99 but accidentally picked up an item for $14.99 instead. when I told Tyler I meant to pick up the $9.99 item he walked back with me and saw that it was not stocked correctly and just sold me the $14.99 item for $9.99 instead! he was really great in understanding the situation and taking responsibility for the mis-stocking instead of making me eat the cost. great staff; I'm very glad I live right by this petco! you know I'll be there all the time. read more

Storm and I love going to this Petco! There's a wide selection of all kinds of animal products. I have purchased her food, treats, medicine, toys, and so much more! I try to ship small businesses, but honestly the prices here are much much cheaper than that of local competitors. I've been meaning to sign up for Petco's rewards program to save even more. It's usually the same cashier every time, and she is very helpful and friendly! I've only had pleasant interactions with her! Storm absolutely LOVES her holiday toys she got during this trip! read more

Excellent experience. Adopted a new dog and Joe helped me get everything I needed, gave me a welcome coupon and helped me save, and everyone was nice. I will make this my regular spot for sure. read more

I live in Norfolk and was out in Richmond over the weekend visiting. I stopped at Petco and a very wonderful employee Joe convinced me to switch to whole hearted food for my two cats. Not only was he awesome in helping me with a healthier choice in food, he gave me great suggestions for a new litter too. Both are strictly Petco brand items and I stopped going to Petco when the location closest to me closed. I may just have to visit Joe in Richmond more often. read more

I had the best experience here! I called before coming and a Victor answered the phone. Not only was he extremely helpful over the phone, when we arrived he stayed over his shift until we were completely checked out. He was very knowledgeable and helped carry our supplies to the register. We were then greeted by Hailey at the register! She was also very knowledgeable and smiled the whole check out. The customer service here is impeccable. This is our go to pet shop for the different pets we have had. Victor and Hailey are stand out employees! read more

The puppy stage 1 training experience here was absolutely ridiculous. Not only did the trainer seem like she didn't want to actually be there other than to rush through tricks and puppy play time, she also dropped by dog at one point and didn't apologize at all... yet the whole room went silent. You pay $100 to be in a small, confined room, in which you have to walk through a filthy corridor with garbage all over it to get there. If you want your dog to actually learn obedience, this is probably not the place to come. Everything you learn here you could easily pick up by watching YouTube video. The only nice thing is that your pup gets a certificate and a gift bag upon completion of the course, which was very thoughtful of Petco - of course, that's included in the price of registering though. read more

Since moving to Richmond, we've loved our experience at this Petco in particular. We've done training with Ron and have kept those good behaviors over the years with our pup, Hope. Also, the staff in the grooming areas are so professional and help in any way to make Hope feel at home (she gets a little nervous when we have to groom her). Jesse in particular was so kind today and just made me feel comfortable leaving Hope with her. She also did a great job with her haircut as usual. Great community here! read more

Our two German Shepherds, Chance and Kyra, love Ashley.....they are generally very clingy and difficult with strangers....she just has a way with her that clicks with them....our third is a terrier/collie mix and we had another groomer at midlothian bath and trim her....the trim was all wrong and a pet parents OMG!!! Moment...I took her to Ashley who as always took care of her as if she were her own pet....Olivia looks adorable every time she comes out now....I'm a protective and pick pet parent....Ashley is awesome!! read more

I LOVE PETCO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I use to live right near it. I use to ride my bike up there, go to the fish section and bang on the glass until the fish gave me attention. I love loo t king at all the friendly pets there, they're more friendly than the staff, one dog even sniffed my butt. This is the only place that accepts me when I get on all fours barking and pretending I'm a dog, it's who I really am, and no other establishment accepts me for who I am other than this petco store. I really do hope one day EVERYONE can have equal rights, even those of us who have an inner dog side. Thank you so much petco for your open mindedness and acceptance, I hope other stores use the same model as you and one day my people can have equality, thanks, god bless america. read more

Absolutely love the carytown location. The staff is super friendly and assist anyway possible. My girl Iris loves going there. Many of them recognize her when we visit, and they give her treats. They also do a great job grooming her, and the groomer even have let me be present/watch to give tips and learn how to do it myself. Iris gets so excited when we get even near the parking lot! read more

I have stopped here three times to try to get some things I need for our dog on the way to Kroger. The staff our very nice so I'm giving 3 stars. The store is physically small and I've never been able to find everything on my list here. It took me three tries to fully learn this lesson-- that trying to save time by stopping here quickly will ultimately not save me time! Now I either go to a different location or a rival and pair it with other errands. read more

The staff here is so friendly, and the groomers did an awesome job on my dog at a very reasonable price. My brother came in to visit and brought his big, beautiful Bulldog, DUKE. We called the day after Xmas and Sarah said to bring him on in. We dropped him off to her and he was so happy & beautiful when we picked him up! If anyone knows bulldogs, they can be a little uncooperative in the grooming process. He loved Sara and would go back anytime!! His nails are done and she really knew how to handle the ole boy. Thank you, sara! read more

They are VERY friendly and loving. It is clear it's not just a dog cleaning factory even those it is a chain store. They are so good to my coon hound- he is 4 years old and we are his 4th SPCA owner. I hadn't been having success washing him myself, but he comes back to us looking beautiful and smelling pretty (for a while)! read more
