I LOVE bringing my dog here. They are great with her and her anxiety. The staff are super friendly! They always do such a great job with her and her haircut always looks amazing after! They are the only people I trust with my dog. They make it super easy to make appointments and last minute accommodations. The only thing is that she is ALWAYS the last dog to get cut. It doesn't matter what time I drop her off at. If I drop her off right at 7 she is still there until 4:30. This makes her anxiety 10x worse because she is away from me ALL day. It is inconvenient for me because I can't just run some errands and pick her back up a few hours later. I live too far to just pick her up that late because it is a weird time frame. I had my dog picked up by a friend and when she brought him to me, i didn't even recognize him. Angry, upset, hurt, in disbelief are just a few feelings I went though. I physically cried when I saw him. He was sheared like a sheep. He went in for a trim basically to get ready for the warmer weather. I mistakenly thought "professionals" could handle that. My dog was nowhere near matted to where shaving him completely down was necessary. He's brushed weekly and well taken care of. I work at a vet clinic and am very aware of what matting is and by no means what was done to my dog was called for. He was literally shaved head to tail, with a small fluff of fur left on the end of his tail. His whiskers were cut and the inside of his ears were shaved instead of plucked. His entire demeanor was off, and is still off. All of his senses are out of whack due to his whiskers being shaved off. He seemed scared and skittish. His skin and ears were irritated to the point I had to get his vet to look at him and get a steroid injection and medicated shampoo.  To make matters worse, I wasn't consulted on ANYTHING going on. Not once was I called to be asked about them possibly shaving him all the way down. And supposedly it was becasue i didnt drop him off. Contacting the owner or having a good number for the owner would go a long way in matters like this. Then my 5 year old daughter sees him and doesn't recognize her own dog and starting bawling crying. After looking at the other reviews, this company clearly thinks the best way to deal with a doodle is to shear them instead of grooming them. I'm not only disappointed but I'm disgusted in how my pet, a member of my family was taken care of. I work with animals daily and deal with clients day in and day out, and I'd never have one of my clients or their animals feel like this. Laney, one of the managers was nice enough to take time to speak to me, it really didnt make things better, but I appreciated her listening and talking with me. However, i wil ABSOLUTELY NOT go back and I will let anyone who asks know about the experience my dog and I had with this facility. read more

I'm so disappointed that my dog's head was shaved after I specifically asked that it not be. I understood that he had matting and was aware his body would be shaved but his head had no matting at all. The groomer was quite rude and acted as if I had completely neglected my dog. More care could have been taken into his groom, especially for $155. I was charged a $40 matting fee which is confusing to me as they did nothing to remove mats besides just completely shave him. He also has a few red spots due to shaving him - one on his nose and ear. When I picked him up I almost didn't know it was my dog... he was acting so upset. I'm so sad .... I will be taking my business back to Dog Krazy in the fan. read more

Three strikes and you're out! We've been bringing our pets to Ridge for nearly 10 years and that's no longer going to be the case. We brought our dog (Belle) in on Saturday for her every two month service. We were the first customer (the young woman behind the counter stated as much) and as it's always been first in, first out, so this was great. Not so much! Since Ridge was purchased, it's gone consistently downhill. It's ranged from not completing all the services requested (though we were charged and never credited) to a terrible job on Belle. Fractured pieces of claws left hanging (they always used to Dremel them) to hacking up her coat, like they did once again. It was obvious that they rushed because she wasn't done when we called. We're fairly certain they didn't brush her teeth or do her glands. She sat for hours in a crate during a thunderstorm. Way to treat our dog! No apology or concern when we showed up or after we stated we're never coming back. We will never use them again and that's really sad. read more

My puppers gets groomed here every few months and for the most part I am pleased with the quality. The shop is organized and efficient. The staff is kind and pleasant. I would say they are a bit pricey though. My dog is a small sized shih-tzu who gets cut every 3-4 months, each time the cut runs between $56-62, mostly $62. There would be some times when his nails are not clipped short enough or his coat would look a bit uneven. However, other times he is nice, clean, and handsome nonetheless. They get to come home with a bandana tied around their necks as well. read more

I have been happy with this dog grooming service and have been taking my dog there for some time now. I called yesterday to make an appointment for his grooming. I was called repeatedly at 7:22 am....Who would think to disturb anyone at that hour? How disrespectful! I NEVER asked to be considered if there was a cancellation. As if I'd jump up and run over!! What was she thinking? Just wanted to fill in her cancellation asap?! The woman who called me, the groomer and or owner I assume, could not have been any ruder or more inconsiderate as she did not even try to apologize bhg for her out of normal hours and extremely early call simply dissed me with zero respect or consideration which I found very upsetting. I called back at 9:30 to again ask for a date for his appointment as I have to carefully juggle my schedule to include appointments. She came to the phone to tell me she will not take my dog ever. She is offended I was upset at her call. I cannot believe such ungracious disrespectfulness towards her clients is considered ok. All I can say is; DO NOT CALL ANYONE AT 7:30 am! Leave a message and don't repeat call as if were an emergency! Have a little respect for others and the human decency to apologize for your inconsiderate behavior. Then to dispose of your client? Only shows you have ZERO REGARD for the people who trust you with their pets. I will not take my pets there ever again. I too am a business owner and I make it my business to appreciate and respect my clients ALWAYS. We are in service to others and it pays to remember thisvwhen we are dealing with our clients. Ridge dog shop was recommended by a friend and I'm glad we made the switch! My labradoodle receives excellent treatment during his grooms. They base the price on weight. I find the price to be more than I paid at my previous groomer but I believe the work is higher quality and he can go a bit longer in between cuts. read more

Absolutely horrible first ( and last) time experience for our Goldendoodle. shaved down to the skin to the point of irritation and a " complimentary oatmeal bath because his skin was irritated". We have had to take him to our vet and he is taking Benadryl to relieve the irritation. very, very disappointed with the lack of skill and professionalism. Kaye, per our conversation, my concern was focused on the 3 cuts which were the result of the grooming services your shop provided. Additionally, he has a long cut and at Petco, he has had no such issues. I hope that you are able to look into your processes and quality of work... esp bc your business is with living animals who have no voice of their own. The customer is greeted by a very friendly receptionist who fills out a card with your exact instructions for how you want your dog groomed. The four times I took my dog there, my baby always smelled nice and the cut was above average. The problem comes in when you don't get your dog there by 7am. You see, they overbook and cram way too many dogs in there than they can handle. The last time I was there, I didn't get my dog over there until 7:45am. About 81/2 hours later my dog was ready to be picked up. Sorry, but that's way too long to keep a dog in a cage. I liked them at first, but then I realized they were more interested in making as many bucks as they can, rather than providing a quality service. Luckily, I found a groomer where I can drop off my baby and pick her up a couple hours later and the cut is just as good as Ridge. Update; The owner recently contacted me and said they "would be happy to arrange a specific drop off and pick up time." This must be a new policy as I was told that their service is "first come, first serve" by the lady at the front desk. read more

Inconsistent for first 4 or 5 trips until I complained. Somehow they always make it the dog owners fault. They upcharge you from time of drop off. Front desk people call you not to come in one day and reschedule then call you the next day and wonder if you can come in. Flexibility on pickup is a one way street. They want you to be flexible on when they can't make promised pickup times but the one time they make it work they get upset you are not there. Awful and would not recommend! read more

I took my 40 lb labradoodle to this shop to be groomed. I am constantly running my hands through my dogs hair so I knew it wasn't matted. I came to pick my dog up and they had charged me an $80 matting fee for a dog that I knew wasn't matted. They brought my dog out and I didn't recognize him. They had scalped him down to the skin. My poor dog who previously loved to sleep on the floor could no longer lay down because it was literally skin to floor. In addition, the next week, as if my poor pup hadn't been traumatized enough, I notice my dog was limping. They had not even attempted to cut my dogs nails. He was limping because his nails were so long which was definitely a part of the service. Long story short, $180 later my dog was scalped and rendered unable to walk. The drop off was easy and the associate was able to provide options for teeth cleaning, washes, etc.. The pick up was again easy and pleasant. I really wanted to like The Ridge Dog shop, but have experienced what I'm reading now if several other reviews. Each time I've taken my dog in the price has increased exponentially. I have a large dog and expect to pay a lot for grooming, but this last experience has me still in shock! My bill was THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY-FIVE DOLLARS! That's about $200 more than I've paid for similar services at other grooming salons! Yes, he looks good, and yes, he's a large dog, but THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY-FIVE dollars! Like I said I'm still in shock and this was not in my budget. Today, was my girls second time going to Ridge Dog Shop and I can honestly say, they are the best groomers we have had in a long time! One of my girls had several mats and I told them they could shave her if they needed to in order to get her mats out. I worried about them and was scared to see how short Bella was going to be. They were very nice when I picked them up and said they were both good. When they brought me "MY Girls, they were BOTH GORGEOUS! Bella was groomed perfectly and NOT shaved! I am very picky when it comes to who I go to for the grooming of my fur babies. I have had very bad experiences in the past. Most places are booked five weeks out and I am glad I was able to get in the same week. The shop is clean and they were really welcoming. Drop off times are pretty reasonable. I went back later in the day to pick up my pups and I have to say they got the cut right. I could tell my dogs were treated well and I recommend this place to anyone. read more

I had been going to the same place for three years, when our favorite groomer left, so I decided to try somewhere new. I had heard good things about Ridge Dog Shop, so I gave them a try. Some annoying things about the place - it is first come first serve, so you have to get your dog there by 730am if you want to rescue them by lunch time (the crates for all of the dogs are incredibly close together in one small corner of the shop, and it is loud, crazy barking chaos which is very scary for my little 8lb gal). Second, as I learned by getting a rude phone call one evening, and before I realized how early we needed to get there in the morning, their hours are clearly stated as 8-6, but you must pick up by 5:30pm. The worker was clearly angry at me when she called to tell me they close at 5:30 and I immediately left to go get her. Lesson learned. So anyway, back to the dog grooming service. We went to Ridge Dog Shop for about a year, every 8 weeks or so, and every time was a very different experience. The first time was good, and the cut was similar to the photos I shared with the groomer, but each time after that we had totally different hair cuts. When I asked for longer than last time on one visit, she was the same exact, very short length I asked not to have. Several times, I had to do my own at-home cuts to trim ears that were so long they fell into her water dish. Another time her beard was so long she looked like Santa Claus. The cut was never the same, despite being asked each time "same cut as last time?!" Part of this is my fault, as I never called to complain, since it would grow out, but this last time we went was the final straw. When asked "same cut as last time" in September I said yes as it never really mattered what I said and she needed a general cut. When I picked her up I was shocked to say the least. Her facial hair was completely chopped off, including her beard, and the cuts were all jagged and rough and her ears were so long I had to have my dog walker come over to cut them immediately. She looked so terrible I was embarrassed to take her in public. Everyone I showed photos to was appalled at how bad they made her look. I can assure you this was NOT the same cut as last time, in fact this dog has never looked like this in her life. It was lazy and showed a total disregard for any instruction or care. This place is unprofessional, too loud, and reliably inconsistent. Find elsewhere to take your dog. read more

I took my little fluffy face Ella to Ridge Dog shop on a recommendation from a friend. I'm so glad I did. Ella is a miniature schnauzer who is absolutely terrified of all things grooming and vet related. They were so nice and reassuring. I hate the traditional schnauzer look (it makes her look like a grumpy old man) and they listened to everything I wanted. This was the first groomer who was able to trim her face and keep her "to die for" lashes. She looked amazing when I picked her up and this was the first time I've seen her come out of a groomers without acting like she came out of a war zone. I really appreciated that they even called back for a followup to see if she handled everything well. She will be going back for her next spa day in a few weeks. read more

I've been taking my 13 year old Pomeranian mix Tinky to Ridge Dog Shop for years. He has arthritis and it hurts when you touch him sometimes but they always take the utmost care with him and he always looks totally transformed when I pick him up. Kaye the owner may be the most unpleasant business owner I have encountered in our ten years of living in Richmond. Her customer service skills are awful; do not support this business. I had to reschedule my dog's appointment several times this summer, and called each time (or told the person who called the day before that I needed to reschedule), as we had family in town at the last minute. This was a HUGE problem for her - you would have thought I asked to reschedule my wedding. Will take my business elsewhere and happily shell over $100 to another dog grooming business in town! I have never been treated or dismissed in the fashion this business did. I was so pleased with my first visit to Ridge Dog Shop! My little guy was so nervous when I left but they did an awesome job reassuring me that everything would be fine. I wasn't able to get him right away when they were done, so they kept him for me with no extra charge. He looks awesome and smells fantastic! I've taken my dog there twice and although the cut is o.k., it is much more expensive than other groomers in the area. They do tend to overbook and keep my dog there quite a while. My dog being in her later years can be difficult to handle and has to be treated gently, and I suspect that did not happen during her last grooming since they pulled out her bottom tooth while trying to muzzle her. At this point I question the experience of the groomer, since in 13 years of grooming nothing like this has ever happened. read more

We had several acceptable groomings here for our 40 lb golden doodle, but the last time we picked him up, the price increased from $79 to $114 without warning or explanation. (The explanation was they should have charged us more before -- also that they brushed his teeth, which we did not ask for). On November 1st i took my dog up to Ridge dog shop for a bath and nail cutting. I have done this on and off over 30+ years with 3 different Rotties, even giving them second chances when they returned a bloody toe'd dog. I called before hand at 7:44am to see if the had time, i had a loaded afternoon and needed her back early (like usual). I was assured that since she DID NOT need hair cutting, just a bath and nail trim, i could get her by 1. I waited till 2 and finally called up there and was told she would be ready by 3......i was horrified!!!! my 13 year old Rotty was in one of there little cells for almost 7 hours.... when i got there at 3 they were finally cutting her nails.....I got the excuse of " we were short handed today...." hmmm i called at 7 and made a point of saying i could bring her in another day if they were busy.....to add insult to injury the owner called me after i left and said "I was not polite in her shop and that her neighbor was there...." i hate to quote a famous comedian ....BUT "EXCUUUUUUUSE ME" they were beyond late and THEY ONLY DID 3 OF 4 PAWS...i was furious and even more so when she called to kvetch at me for being mad that she can't keep her business running well. There is a new place that has just opened much closer to me than she is, so i guess i will give her a try. BTW the groomers in there that i have dealt with over the years seem to be nice...many good ones are no longer there.
