I rolled in at 6pm on Wednesday not really knowing what to expect. My beloved PetValu closed and I wasn't sure where I could wash my dogs. I have three, yes, three senior dogs at home and it would take me longer to wash the tub after bathing them them taking them elsewhere. Words could not explain the happiness when I stumbled upon Crittertown. I took my Cocker Spaniel/Beagle boy and Boston Terrier girl in for a bath. Wasn't sure what to expect. While Crittertown isn't fancy, the thoughtful touches outweigh any frills. I'm sorry to say I didn't catch the person's name but the lady was so helpful. She suggested a bath tub that would be easier for me to lift my dogs in and out of because I'm short. She showed me all of the various types of shampoos and perfumes, asking what concerns I had for my pups. There were even crates available so that I could wash one dog at a time. I really loved that I got a basket of towels with ear wipes for each dog. After the baths, I ended up getting a really nice harness with a seat belt loop and all natural, procured treats. My dogs have no teeth so the lady working there helped me feel the bags for chewier treats. We also signed up for the frequent wash card which is so great with three dogs. There are things a non-chain understands about the practicalities of being a dog owner that a big box doesn't. We really enjoyed this neighborhood dog wash and we look forward to returning soon.

    Happy guy!

My baby had a day of pampering. After his haircut, we wanted a wash, but didn't want to do it in our bathtub. For $15 we were able to wash all 50 lbs of him. He smelled like kiwi berry and got some lemongrass cologne afterwards. We didn't have to wait for a bathtub and the staff was very accommodating, explaining the things they offer and that they are there to help. They've got a shop next door so we ended up buying a few treats for him. They've got an $18 elk antlers that are to last 6 months! We bought it and at first thought he didn't enjoy it, but he did. You just couldn't tell he actually was chewing on it! It's been 3 weeks since we've bought the antlers and I do believe they will last! I think both of us enjoyed our time here, even if one of us tried to resist it.

Everything I need to bathe and blow dry my dog is here. Helpful people run the store. Reasonable cost for a convenient bathing station.

The staff, the groomers, and even the other customers are always friendly -- and it truly says a lot that all the pets who come here seem just as happy and well-mannered. The groomers here are contracted out, and the groomer I personally use is Mya -- and she is absolutely amazing. She is one of the only people I fully trust with my dogs. She is kind, patient, reasonably priced, flexible with scheduling, and genuinely cares about both the pets and their owners. I have two pit bulls, and anyone with this breed knows how difficult it can be to find a groomer who is both willing to take them -- let alone take both dogs on the same day. Mya not only accommodates both of my dogs together, but she also goes above and beyond to meet their individual needs. One of my dogs is not a fan of large crowds, and Mya is incredibly understanding and accommodating by scheduling us for the very first appointment of the day before anyone else arrives. That level of consideration means everything to me. What I also love is that while one of my dogs is being groomed, my other dog gets to play with Mya's little dog that she brings with her -- and they absolutely adore each other. It makes the entire experience feel calm, personal, and stress-free. One of my dogs is older, and I truly appreciate that one of the tubs has steps so he doesn't have to be lifted or jump in. That extra thoughtfulness makes a huge difference for senior pets. Another great perk is that they offer a self-wash option where you can bathe your dog yourself using their products or bring your own. It's such a convenient option to have. Overall, this grooming spot is welcoming, clean, inclusive, and filled with people who genuinely care about animals. If you're looking for a groomer who treats your pets with patience, respect, and love -- especially if you have larger breeds or dogs with special needs -- I cannot recommend Mya and this facility enough.

One is ten years old and the other a little more than 1 1/2 years old--and we were very concerned about their welfare without us around to take care of them. (Yes, they're both spoiled.) We decided that leaving them at home would be better than boarding them and contacted Sarah based upon the recommendation of our groomer. We could not have been more pleased with the result. Sarah had three young people who made four visits each day for the 2+ week period. They reliably showed up on time each day and fed, walked and played with the dogs during the visits. (It did take a couple of days before the dogs adjusted to the change in their routines but they generally did adjust--although one had eating issues but that was because he is a little neurotic and had nothing to do with the care provided. In fact, the sitters went out of their way to work with that particular dog to get him to eat.) We received detailed daily reports about each visit by email, with pictures. Most importantly, we were quickly contacted with any issues or questions that arose. We would absolutely use Sarah Sits again and highly recommend them to anyone who wishes to have pets cared for in their own environments.

Over that time, we've provided them thousands of dollars in revenue, I'd estimate somewhere around $8k-$9k between daycare, baths and occasional boarding. In March of 2019, we sent our older dog in for her regular daycare appointment and requested she get a bath and her nails trimmed. When we got her home, we noticed she was licking her paw quite a bit and saw one of her nails was badly damaged, split, and beginning to ooze pus. No one at Pets at Play called or told us her nail was damaged, even though they said her nails were cut. We emailed the owner with our concerns and received a call back from an employee - to this date, the owner has never contacted us about this incident. The employee specifically told me she was calling as to not cause any confusion, but they could not get their story straight. Personally, it sounds like they didn't want a paper trail of any potential responsibility. One person said the nails were cut, then the groomer said they did not need to be cut. If the nails got cut, why did no one tell us they damaged her nail? If they did not need to get cut, that obviously means you checked them all, right? And if you saw one was damaged, why were we never told? Whatever the case, our dog went to daycare just fine, but left with a badly damaged nail which required sedation and surgery the next day to the tune of $275 in vet bills. Whether or not our dog's nails were cut, Pets at Play was negligent at best, and deceptive at worst in trying to conceal or claim ignorance of her injury sustained while in their care. Finally, to add insult to injury, I went into their online system that weekend to cancel the next two daycare reservations (because our dog needed to be at home to recover from surgery), and they had deleted all of her reservations for the next year without telling us. I never said anything to them, so why would they delete our standing reservations? It doesn't seem like a good business practice to alienate loyal customers as we have been for years. The way Pets at Play treated our dog, my wife and me is no way to treat loyal customers. We always enjoyed taking our dogs to Pets at Play for daycare and boarding, but I no longer have any faith in how they treat us or our dogs. We have not returned, will not be returning, nor can we recommend their services.
