I rolled in at 6pm on Wednesday not really knowing what to expect. My beloved PetValu closed and I wasn't sure where I could wash my dogs. I have three, yes, three senior dogs at home and it would take me longer to wash the tub after bathing them them taking them elsewhere. Words could not explain the happiness when I stumbled upon Crittertown. I took my Cocker Spaniel/Beagle boy and Boston Terrier girl in for a bath. Wasn't sure what to expect. While Crittertown isn't fancy, the thoughtful touches outweigh any frills. I'm sorry to say I didn't catch the person's name but the lady was so helpful. She suggested a bath tub that would be easier for me to lift my dogs in and out of because I'm short. She showed me all of the various types of shampoos and perfumes, asking what concerns I had for my pups. There were even crates available so that I could wash one dog at a time. I really loved that I got a basket of towels with ear wipes for each dog. After the baths, I ended up getting a really nice harness with a seat belt loop and all natural, procured treats. My dogs have no teeth so the lady working there helped me feel the bags for chewier treats. We also signed up for the frequent wash card which is so great with three dogs. There are things a non-chain understands about the practicalities of being a dog owner that a big box doesn't. We really enjoyed this neighborhood dog wash and we look forward to returning soon. read more

This place is AWESOME. If I lived in the area, it would definitely be the only place I would even consider taking my dog to for grooming needs. Popped in here on our way from PA down to NC, after we stopped at a dog park and our dog got super muddy. He also had needed his nails to be clipped/grounded for a while now, so it was perfect timing. One of their employees does nail clipping and/or grinding for a very reasonable price (think it was $8 for one, $12 for both) and was very careful/seemed experienced while doing it. She even had the appropriate product to use on one of his toes that was cut just a teensy bit too short by accident. Only took a few minutes, and she let me stand beside him with a bone to help distract him! Then, there is the grooming area. At least 8 or 10 individual dog baths where you can bath your dog yourself, and they provide everything you might need - from various shampoos including anti flea/tick ones and ones for sensitive skin, to other bath products you might want to take advantage of. They also provide towels for your dog, and aprons for you to wear while doing the grooming. Dryers are included in each station, but they also have a tent dryer station that you can utilize with a staff member if your fur baby has more hair than most. One suggestion - do not set your coat down on anything around the grooming baths, as it might get covered in hair you can't see obviously! Just use the racks they provide and make sure to wear an apron while grooming. They also have an awesome retail area with a ton of great stuff - we picked up several 'no hide' bones (our dog's favorite) while we were there. And, there is plenty of parking, as it is in a large shopping plaza with a huge parking lot. TLDR - AWESOME place, wish there was one like this around where I live!! Will definitely be back the next time we are driving through! read more

My baby had a day of pampering. After his haircut, we wanted a wash, but didn't want to do it in our bathtub. For $15 we were able to wash all 50 lbs of him. He smelled like kiwi berry and got some lemongrass cologne afterwards. We didn't have to wait for a bathtub and the staff was very accommodating, explaining the things they offer and that they are there to help. They've got a shop next door so we ended up buying a few treats for him. They've got an $18 elk antlers that are to last 6 months! We bought it and at first thought he didn't enjoy it, but he did. You just couldn't tell he actually was chewing on it! It's been 3 weeks since we've bought the antlers and I do believe they will last! Whatever the reason I think he is just as ready for his next bath as I am! Loved not having to bring anything with us as they provide towels, shampoo and even ear wipes! We didn't use them but they also had hair dryers. The water warmed up quickly and the oatmeal shampoo lathered soothingly. Now I want a bath!! Anyway, we came on a Thursday morning and only ran into one other pup so I'd def recommend a weekday for those who need calmer vibes. Ok I think this place is GENIUS. If you hate getting your bathroom dirty washing your dog, but don't want to pay for a groomer, hit this place up... you basically rent space to wash and dry your pooch! Last time I was here it was relatively clean, the prices were really reasonable, and while they do sell things like shampoo and fancy soaps, you can bring your own if you are on a budget. I also liked that they have dryers as well as tubs for washing... noone likes a wet dog getting back in their car. For a place that deals in wet dogs, it smelled ok to me... I hesitate to bring my dogs here only because sometimes they get too excited by other dogs, and I don't want it to turn into a romp and roll... but the dogs I saw when I was there were calm, and ranged from tiny (like, you could wash it in a sink) to huge (like, you could use that beast to pull a rickshaw)... read more

I've been wanting to get our labradoodles here for months. I am so sick and tired of being angry after bathing them due to the mess they ways make. We finally made it here and this place is the best. Bathing our dogs was so easy and pleasant. They open at 9.00 and that have plenty of bath tubs in different sizes and heights to make it easy for ya. The owner was pleasant and showed us around since it was our first time there. They provide Towels, shampoo, clippers, brushes, dog perfume, am drying stations...the works. Best $30 I've spent! Awesome place with helpful folks! I brought my two large dogs to bathe one at a time. They have a dog crate for one to have a rest while waiting. I was able to use the tub right next to the crate so my dogs did not get too nervous. The staff member was keeping an eye on bath progress and brought me a fresh bottle of shampoo and more towels for the second dog before I could ask! Prices are much better than other self-serve dog washes I have tried (mine were $15 each, and are 60 and 90 pounds respectively). I wish this place was in the West End where I live, but it's still worth the drive over the river. read more

i've been here several times now - both to groom my border collie and buy food. The staff is exceptionally nice and helpful. The grooming stations are great. You can sit or stand while doing your grooming or they have a professional on staff who will do it for you. The place is constantly getting cleaned from the staff and the tubs are immaculate. They have tons of tools you can use and the bathing tubs have a great water supply and then you use the dryer and towels to finish the grooming. The staff is right there to help with self grooming and all are kind and helpful. They really make a fun experience every more fun by helping as needed. The prices are very reasonable and the parking is great. I highly recommend for food, treats, toys and baths. read more

The owners and staff are extremely nice and helpful. The elevated tubs are a big help and if you are short like me, they also have a lower tub. They provide shampoo and towels, but bring your own nail clippers or do your pup's nails before you go. We have a Weim and pay $15 to wash him. If you give them your info, you can earn a free wash after so many visits. They also have small and medium sized crates in case you need to bring multiple dogs and don't want the second one to roam around. The bath part is clean and they give you all the supplies you need - a variety of soaps, ear wipes, towels. There's plenty of warm water and blow dryers. Wonderful place! It's so much easier to wash our dogs in a raised tub than bending over at home. There are crates, so you can bring more than one dog, and they can take turns. Crittertown supplies shampoo, or you can bring your own. They have dryers so you don't have to drive home with wet dogs. It's well worth the money and the short drive to not have to clean all the hair out of my drains. We have 2 large dogs that shed a lot, so bathing them results in a ton of fur. We have been bringing our dogs here for years, and recommend it to everyone. They furnish the shampoo, conditioner, brushes, towels, aprons, etc. the tubs are waist high so need to bend over or get on your knees to reach your dog. I take my dog here at least once a month to give her a bath. I think this is such a great concept. Although she loves the river she hates bath time. At home it's a workout trying to keep her in the tub. Here, she is tethered to the inside of the tub. There are lots of different shampoos to choose from. The store has many great varieties of pet food some that are not found elsewhere such as Orijen, Verus, Weruva, etc. My cats have me on a tight leash when it comes to their food! We went to Crittertown for the first time with my daughters Amstaff. We were immediately greeted at the door by one of their friendly employees. She set us up at a bathing station, brought clean towels, ear wipes, etc. She also brought additional steps so Valley could climb up into the tub. They have waterproof aprons for your use as well as dryers and numerous other supplies. Attached to the bathing salon is their retail shop which sells a variety of pet related items. For $15 its a fantastic bargain. As a previous employee of a vet hospital, we charged $35 and up for baths. We are moving to Richmond in the next few months and I plan to bring our Boarder Collie there on a regular basis. read more
