If you have a special needs dog, there is not another daycare on the Southside like it. I have a very anxious dog. They go through a meet and greet process every single time he comes. No other day care in the area (we have been to most) cares about the special need dogs. The just deem your dog non compat (because they don't have the training, supplies, or staffing) and send you away. If you want the best, you want this location Dogtopia! Pit bulls are allowed at these facilities, are not kept separate from other animals, and one attacked and injured my much smaller dog. Staff at first claimed my dog mounted the pit bull, which I have never seen him do to any dog or anything, then later corrected themselves and said he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time... at pick up they started telling me "when this usually happens..." indicating it's a repeated occurrence at this facility. I have a 5 month old puppy named Luka, he's a Shiba Inu. Those who know the breed would understand how mischievous they can be. We have a friend who takes their baby golden doodle to Dogtopia so we figured why not try to get him socialized! He was nervous at first being the noobie in the arena of dogs, but grew fond of the place throughout the day! They took great care of him and even sent us home with pamphlets including a picture of him and his doggie print, along with what friends he made during his stay. He managed to make 4 friends, who knew that was possible! The staff here is amazing! They treat your dog the way you would and they pups come out happy and excited. This is the perfect place for puppies and active dogs who need to get there energy out! It's also great for socializing and keeping your dog happy and friendly with other dogs. My suggestion is to start them young and take them for at least half days at daycare. Bonus for pet parents.... you can watch your babies on camera and see how they are doing. I got a kick out watching our beagle puppy play! It was also reassuring to see how the staff is constantly watching and in the room cleaning and on top of everything. I checked out several other places and the others don't have cameras and don't want them and it makes me skeptical about what they are hiding. We only stopped in to inquire about the business as we are undergoing treatment at Johnston Willis hospital which is just a few blocks away. We met Mary and Eric and they were excellent to work with. We got our dog registered and approved on the spot and will definitely be using this facility regularly going forward. The facility is very clean with video observation of the communal rooms. This is my first ever review on yelp. I'm not one to complain, but I want to advise anyone reading not to visit this location. Sorry in advance for the rant. I boarded our 10 Month old puppy for 4 nights. This was his first time overnight. We'd brought him for daycare a few times in the past and were happy with the place. However, on the third night of our trip one of the staff supervisors called my cell asking if they had permission to take my dog to the vet. When I asked what happened they said he'd gotten a scratch on the ear that wouldn't stop bleeding. They were vague beyond that. I had to continually correct this woman over the phone when she called my dog "she" and remind her he is a male. Regardless, I approved the vet visit for fear of infection. The vet called later that day saying that another dog had pierced through his ear and ripped a wide scratch along the inside. They put a leather helmet and cone on to prevent him from agitating it further. All in all they'd given him 10+ stitches on his ear, a staple in his shoulder, and had to wrap his paw with a split dewclaw. We now have 3 separate medications to give him, and he isn't supposed to do anything for 2 weeks but lay around and recover (impossible for a puppy). His discharge papers state that he's at risk for losing blood flow to his upper ear as well. Upon review, we also noticed that the supervisor who brought him in labeled him as a 2 year old female. Both age and gender can affect treatment and prescriptions so this was an issue. Not only do they have all of his info on file, but we also signed permission to release his records should he need to visit the vet so I don't know how it could have been so inaccurate. (like, c'mon just look underneath) When we picked him up they told us that another dog escalated play and that they'd "talk to the other parent." Not only are dogs screened, but should be supervised at all times. I understand they can get rowdy, but for this other dog to be able to bite that hard at least twice tells me they were slow to respond. Dogtopia staff say they are trained to detect aggression and intervene well before things get out of hand. Either this dog shouldn't have been there, was among the wrong peers, or dogtopia have too few staff to accommodate that number of animals. As a kicker, they sent us home with a ziplock bag of food and bowls which aren't ours. This was in addition to what we dropped off, so another dog is missing their stuff. The bag we gave them is salmon based, which we feed him because he has gastrointestinal issues when fed chicken (vet recommendation). The salmon bag looked full when they gave it back. It was a 4 lb. bag, and when we weighed it at home the scale read almost 4 lbs. He was scheduled to eat 10 meals during his stay, likely all of which had been the wrong food. When combined with the mistakes on the vet forms, the fight itself, the lackluster response to the dog who instigated, and the downplaying of the injuries over the phone, I really can't say that these folks are paying attention to or caring for the animals as any pet parent would expect. To their credit, they are covering the vet bills which is nice, but is also an admission of fault. They know they should do better. If you choose to take your pet in I hope they've addressed their issues by then. read more

Took my dog for a meet and greet and was told that he was too anxious around new dogs and being away from me. They gave me the name of a trainer and recommended that I come back after he's had some exposure. Full disclosure, we're already working with a trainer on his anxiety around strangers and dogs (which I was upfront with) and I wanted to see if he had progressed enough to enjoy doggie daycare. Clearly not! While it may seem odd that I'm giving 5 stars to a place that we didn't get in, I want to say that I appreciate how willing they were to evaluate my dog, listen to my concerns, and give me honest feedback. We have had experiences with other places judging him by his breed and his past and not even giving him a shot. He's a young guy who had a traumatic past and has made SO MUCH progress. He loves other dogs and people, but he does need a firm handler that he knows for the first introductions to give him some confidence. It was totally appropriate for them to give me the feedback that they did. I appreciate that they considered if he would enjoy himself or be too stressed. I appreciate that they are attentive enough to their dogs to not need to discriminate against breeds. From what I say, the staff LOVES the dogs and the dogs are so happy to be there! We will definitely be trying again when we get a little more confident :) read more

We used to board our dog at a place where we had to rent a "dog suite" and would have to pay extra for more walks and/or visits even though we were paying a premium for a private room for her. Then I found Dogtopia...my dog gets to play with other dogs all day long and then relax in a crate at night. I know that she's being active all day and is probably worn out by day's end. That makes it easier for me to leave her. The staff is incredibly friendly and I feel like they really got to know our dog. They did an evaluation before they allowed her to come to daycare/boarding. They also suggested that we leave her there for a few hours so that they could see how she did in the doggie daycare environment and make sure it was a good fit for her before we actually boarded her. She was a happy, tired out dog when we picked her up! Will definitely use them again. read more

My pupper had a bath and nail clip today - great staff and looks like a good job. Only 3 stars though because - oh the smell in the place. I had to wash his leash and my clothes just from being in there. My husband and I have a 3 month old Great Dane puppy that I am absolutely in love with. She's new, obviously, and because we don't yet have children, she's my "baby." We both work full time, albeit with flexible schedules, but I hate when she has to be left alone in the crate all day. My hope was to take her somewhere where she could play and expend all that puppy energy and not my a crazy Tasmanian Devil when we got home from work. Enter: the Godsend that is Dogtopia. When I arrived in the morning, I was greeted by the manager, Heidi, who was super friendly and so nice to our puppy! She took our puppy back for an "evaluation" to see if she'd be a good fit for day care. The eval normally costs $15, but if you leave your dog there that day, the fee is waved. I was then taken on a tour of the facility. The site is CLEAN and NEAT and everything I was hoping for. The dogs are put in one of 3 (or 4? I can't remember) rooms to play with dogs, and it's great because you can watch them on a webcam when you leave. While I'm not THAT kind of dog owner, it gave me a peace of mind knowing that Dogtopia is so transparent. Any place can SAY "yeah, the dogs play all day!" but in actuality, they're in crates and only taken on short walks. The dogs are never left unsupervised, and they can literally play for 10 hours a day! They have nap time from 12-2, which is much needed, but that is their only crate time. Our dog was there for a half day (only $16!) and she is still out cold and it's the following morning! We will absolutely be returning customers! read more

My dog Daisy has been going to doggie daycare about two days a week since June 2016. She absolutely loves it! She comes home happy (and exhausted- which is great). The staff is friendly and very accommodating. I'm a teacher with early hours and I've never had a problem dropping her off. So I was going to India and I was there for three weeks and I decided to keep him here since you know they have cameras. What ended up happening with my dog who is a Shih Tzu and when I left him there for three weeks he was a year old and I had to leave due to family emergency had to go out of the country and I felt like I could trust this company with my dog long story short I came back to a dog that is very nervous very scared of big dogs scared of anyone that has long hair which seems to me that he was abused he also has become very protective around his treats and foods it took me a long time to finally step up and write this review when I came back from my trip as well he had kennel cough!!! Although I'm writing this review back a year n half later (currently I have put my dog in training to recover from this mess!!) please do not put your dogs here if you do you're running into a risk I know my one review will not make much of a difference but to anyone out there that's reading this please know that this is what happened to my dog and he's come back with all these issues and he was not like this when I had left him and I know for a fact that he was abused in someway that is why he is the way he is right now!!!! Breaks my heart to see why people r like this! I have a 10 month old Great Dane puppy. The first and only time I took my puppy to Dogtopia, I was excited to be able to see him play and interacting with the other dogs via Dogtopia's webcam. That never happened. The keeper (for lack of a better word) put my pup in a crate for about 20 minutes or so, which I expected. But when he let him out of the crate, he wouldn't let him interact with the other dogs. My pup had climbed on top of a plastic "bridge" and another dog came up and they were sniffing each other. The keeper grabbed my pup's collar and yanked him off of the bridge, and then yanked him a few more times for good measure. He then put my pup back in the crate. After a bit he let my pup back out. And again, whenever my pup went to interact with the other dogs, he was either yanked away or shooed away. At one point, this guy was poking and slapping my dog in the face. That was when I lost it. I called my husband (he had been watching the webcam as well), and we decided we would take my pup out of there. I'm sure Dogtopia is a fine place if you have the right people, but this guy made it obvious he did not belong around dogs. Dogtopia really needs to get rid of this guy. I won't be taking my pup back. read more

We love Dogtopia from the people to the clean facility.....it is our dog's happy place. They treat Cruiser like family and we never worry about him when he is there for boarding. The little extras they do like the monthly birthday party or the post cards and report cards of how his day went to the pictures posted on Instagram or FB is what means a lot to us as owners. WOW! Dogtopia was the first place I have used for daycare/boarding. I was more nervous than my dog but the staff was wonderful and my dog comes home happy as a clam! I feel very comfortable leaving her here because 1. They have webcams and you can check in most times during the day and 2. The dogs are in open space environments not left in cages or small corrals. They have the opportunity to play both inside and outside. My dog comes home happy and tired! So happy I decided to take my sweet girl. I think it is helping her feel comfortable around other dogs because typically she is not very social. You do not have to make reservations ahead of time which is helpful when you have a busy schedule. Another benefit is that you can get your dog groomed or nails clipped etc while they are there. read more

I love Dogtopia. I like that they know who Talley is when we walk in, even employees that I am not familiar with. I especially like the flexibility- I am not one to plan ahead so it is very helpful for me that I can bring Talley in the morning last minute without making a reservation first. I really like the 1/2 day option too, it works well for my schedule since I do not work and it is just enough time for Talley to get some play time with other dogs. Dogtopia is an amazing place. The first thing you notice is how excited all the dogs are to be there. They are literally straining at their lashes to be the next dog to be walked back to their play area. The staff are all incredibly nice, and so enthusiastic about their canine customers. Each dog is greeted by name and welcomed back. There are three large play rooms separated by size for small, medium, and large dogs so all will be comfortable and safe. There is also a large fenced in area outside where they can take turns playing outside in nice weather. You can watch your dog play, if you so desire, on a neat app that gives you a live feed of all three rooms and the playground-- very reassuring to new doggie parents! And whether you bring your dog for a whole or half day, you are assured of having a tired but happy pup at the end of the day. We love Dogtopia, almost as much as our dog! read more
