I took my dog to four paws pet resort in Ashland for a total of -4- 8hr days. 5/12/25, 5/14/25, 5/16/25, 5/20/25. When I brought him on 5/12 the first day I walked in and the place smells terrible it's hard to even be in there it smells like a morgue or chemicals idk it smells very bad. Then I asked if I could go to the back with him because he's a little nervous and they lead me back but stopped in the warehouse area and told me I couldn't go any further or see the back for liability reasons. But the little bit I did see the outside area is just orange clay dusty dirt there was no grass in sight. He came home that afternoon covered in orange dirt. 5/14 he came home covered in bumps all over his back and what looked to be dried blood all down his chin and neck I called and asked if something happened and they said no the yard attendant didn't see anything happen. Ok whatever he could have just hit his gum on another dogs tooth...still don't know what the bumps are. 5/16 he comes home and all the bumps are scabbed over with dried blood. 5/20 the last and final day I had put a brand new sun shirt on him...we were in the parking lot at the daycare in the morning and I ripped the package open and put the brand new shirt on him. At lunch time that day the owner calls me saying my dog is peeing blood and he sounded very apologetic and kept repeating himself like he was trying to convince me of something I replied ok I have a urinalysis kit at home for him I'll see when we get home if he has a uti or something and the owner just kept on saying I just really wanted you to know I just needed to call and tell you (he said nothing about his shirt getting blood on it). When I picked him up that afternoon his sunshirt was gone and I asked oh what happened to his shirt? The girl said when he peed blood it got on his shirt so we washed it so it wouldn't stain. She goes and grabs it out of the dryer and hands it to me and there are holes in it like small holes maybe made by teeth on both sides like his belly/hip area. I get home and check him out to see if anything is visibly wrong with him and I noticed his nails. His nails were pretty long to begin with before he started there and after only 4 days there his nails were so worn down the quick was exposed on all his feet. He is 6 I have had him the whole time and never has his nails done this. I don't know what was happening at the daycare care but it didn't feel right. I immediately called the owner and said we can no longer come there and I wanted a refund for the remaining 6 days I had prepaid for. He informed me that he would have the office write me a check and I was like ok I work .5 miles from the daycare I can come by and pick it up and he told me no that the office would take 7-10 business days to write the check and they have to mail it to my house I can't pick it up. I had read so many good reviews before deciding to go to four paws in Ashland I thought it was a good place to go. After all this I remembered seeing a sign in the lobby saying "if you leave us a review on Google and show it to the front desk you'll get a free day of daycare." So I started looking deeper like maybe all of these good reviews were just to get the free day...not only were there complaints filed against them with the BBB but the majority of reviews on yelp were begging people not to take their dogs there. They have a history of neglect/abuse I was devastated that I had even taken my dog there.

My girl has been consistently going to four paws since Dec 2020. Started with a couple hours and then progressed to four, even six if I'm held up! She absolutely LOVES Four Paws. When I drop her off her she greets her bffs with kisses and I'm yesterday news...It literally makes me happy seeing her big tail wag away. Barley loves the whole team there and they love her too!! And off she goes to play...pups are supervised during play, which is most of the day (boarding/ daycare doggies). Both outside/inside play areas are designated per size and activity level, ect. The building has an indoor play area that is also designated. If your kid(s) spending the night...they have kennels for one or two also grooming on site! I was referred to four paws by a coworker and I am so blessed we have them just around the corner! When we come hone she's dogged-out! Thank you Four Paws

My dog, happy and worn out from a boarding here.

The staff, the groomers, and even the other customers are always friendly -- and it truly says a lot that all the pets who come here seem just as happy and well-mannered. The groomers here are contracted out, and the groomer I personally use is Mya -- and she is absolutely amazing. She is one of the only people I fully trust with my dogs. She is kind, patient, reasonably priced, flexible with scheduling, and genuinely cares about both the pets and their owners. I have two pit bulls, and anyone with this breed knows how difficult it can be to find a groomer who is both willing to take them -- let alone take both dogs on the same day. Mya not only accommodates both of my dogs together, but she also goes above and beyond to meet their individual needs. One of my dogs is not a fan of large crowds, and Mya is incredibly understanding and accommodating by scheduling us for the very first appointment of the day before anyone else arrives. That level of consideration means everything to me. What I also love is that while one of my dogs is being groomed, my other dog gets to play with Mya's little dog that she brings with her -- and they absolutely adore each other. It makes the entire experience feel calm, personal, and stress-free. One of my dogs is older, and I truly appreciate that one of the tubs has steps so he doesn't have to be lifted or jump in. That extra thoughtfulness makes a huge difference for senior pets. Another great perk is that they offer a self-wash option where you can bathe your dog yourself using their products or bring your own. It's such a convenient option to have. Overall, this grooming spot is welcoming, clean, inclusive, and filled with people who genuinely care about animals. If you're looking for a groomer who treats your pets with patience, respect, and love -- especially if you have larger breeds or dogs with special needs -- I cannot recommend Mya and this facility enough.

One is ten years old and the other a little more than 1 1/2 years old--and we were very concerned about their welfare without us around to take care of them. (Yes, they're both spoiled.) We decided that leaving them at home would be better than boarding them and contacted Sarah based upon the recommendation of our groomer. We could not have been more pleased with the result. Sarah had three young people who made four visits each day for the 2+ week period. They reliably showed up on time each day and fed, walked and played with the dogs during the visits. (It did take a couple of days before the dogs adjusted to the change in their routines but they generally did adjust--although one had eating issues but that was because he is a little neurotic and had nothing to do with the care provided. In fact, the sitters went out of their way to work with that particular dog to get him to eat.) We received detailed daily reports about each visit by email, with pictures. Most importantly, we were quickly contacted with any issues or questions that arose. We would absolutely use Sarah Sits again and highly recommend them to anyone who wishes to have pets cared for in their own environments.

Over that time, we've provided them thousands of dollars in revenue, I'd estimate somewhere around $8k-$9k between daycare, baths and occasional boarding. In March of 2019, we sent our older dog in for her regular daycare appointment and requested she get a bath and her nails trimmed. When we got her home, we noticed she was licking her paw quite a bit and saw one of her nails was badly damaged, split, and beginning to ooze pus. No one at Pets at Play called or told us her nail was damaged, even though they said her nails were cut. We emailed the owner with our concerns and received a call back from an employee - to this date, the owner has never contacted us about this incident. The employee specifically told me she was calling as to not cause any confusion, but they could not get their story straight. Personally, it sounds like they didn't want a paper trail of any potential responsibility. One person said the nails were cut, then the groomer said they did not need to be cut. If the nails got cut, why did no one tell us they damaged her nail? If they did not need to get cut, that obviously means you checked them all, right? And if you saw one was damaged, why were we never told? Whatever the case, our dog went to daycare just fine, but left with a badly damaged nail which required sedation and surgery the next day to the tune of $275 in vet bills. Whether or not our dog's nails were cut, Pets at Play was negligent at best, and deceptive at worst in trying to conceal or claim ignorance of her injury sustained while in their care. Finally, to add insult to injury, I went into their online system that weekend to cancel the next two daycare reservations (because our dog needed to be at home to recover from surgery), and they had deleted all of her reservations for the next year without telling us. I never said anything to them, so why would they delete our standing reservations? It doesn't seem like a good business practice to alienate loyal customers as we have been for years. The way Pets at Play treated our dog, my wife and me is no way to treat loyal customers. We always enjoyed taking our dogs to Pets at Play for daycare and boarding, but I no longer have any faith in how they treat us or our dogs. We have not returned, will not be returning, nor can we recommend their services.
