Their team consistently goes above and beyond to make sure he is well cared for during every visit. We boarded Apollo these last two weeks while we were on vacation. We returned a day early and gave a short notice for pick-up. Even with the last-minute change, Apollo was bathed and ready to go. And, they also washed his bed and toy. The employees here are kind and wonderful, but despite their efforts, this facility is disgusting and dangerous. There are no upper limits on how many dogs they will take in, even with one person on staff. The area dogs are corralled into is either filled with urine and feces, fine particulate dust causing coat damage and respiratory illness, or both. My dog was attacked once and came home drenched in urine many times. He would generally come home quite anxious, at best. I would not send your babies here if you care much about their safety, cleanliness, or happiness. read more

I wish I could give zero stars. I dropped my dog off on Friday and asked specifically for updates and photos because this was our first time leaving him somewhere. They promised they'd send photos and update us as much as possible. Then called on Saturday to check in, still no pictures, still more promises of pictures. Now I'm picking him up on Wednesday, after 3 days of radio silence and he has a cut on his nose and has certainly lost a few pounds. To "make up for it" the offered 10 free daycare days. I took my dog to four paws pet resort in Ashland for a total of -4- 8hr days. 5/12/25, 5/14/25, 5/16/25, 5/20/25. When I brought him on 5/12 the first day I walked in and the place smells terrible it's hard to even be in there it smells like a morgue or chemicals idk it smells very bad. Then I asked if I could go to the back with him because he's a little nervous and they lead me back but stopped in the warehouse area and told me I couldn't go any further or see the back for liability reasons. But the little bit I did see the outside area is just orange clay dusty dirt there was no grass in sight. He came home that afternoon covered in orange dirt. 5/14 he came home covered in bumps all over his back and what looked to be dried blood all down his chin and neck I called and asked if something happened and they said no the yard attendant didn't see anything happen. Ok whatever he could have just hit his gum on another dogs tooth...still don't know what the bumps are. 5/16 he comes home and all the bumps are scabbed over with dried blood. 5/20 the last and final day I had put a brand new sun shirt on him...we were in the parking lot at the daycare in the morning and I ripped the package open and put the brand new shirt on him. At lunch time that day the owner calls me saying my dog is peeing blood and he sounded very apologetic and kept repeating himself like he was trying to convince me of something I replied ok I have a urinalysis kit at home for him I'll see when we get home if he has a uti or something and the owner just kept on saying I just really wanted you to know I just needed to call and tell you (he said nothing about his shirt getting blood on it). When I picked him up that afternoon his sunshirt was gone and I asked oh what happened to his shirt? The girl said when he peed blood it got on his shirt so we washed it so it wouldn't stain. She goes and grabs it out of the dryer and hands it to me and there are holes in it like small holes maybe made by teeth on both sides like his belly/hip area. I get home and check him out to see if anything is visibly wrong with him and I noticed his nails. His nails were pretty long to begin with before he started there and after only 4 days there his nails were so worn down the quick was exposed on all his feet. He is 6 I have had him the whole time and never has his nails done this. I don't know what was happening at the daycare care but it didn't feel right. I immediately called the owner and said we can no longer come there and I wanted a refund for the remaining 6 days I had prepaid for. He informed me that he would have the office write me a check and I was like ok I work .5 miles from the daycare I can come by and pick it up and he told me no that the office would take 7-10 business days to write the check and they have to mail it to my house I can't pick it up. I had read so many good reviews before deciding to go to four paws in Ashland I thought it was a good place to go. After all this I remembered seeing a sign in the lobby saying "if you leave us a review on Google and show it to the front desk you'll get a free day of daycare." So I started looking deeper like maybe all of these good reviews were just to get the free day...not only were there complaints filed against them with the BBB but the majority of reviews on yelp were begging people not to take their dogs there. They have a history of neglect/abuse I was devastated that I had even taken my dog there. read more

We used to be pleased with the setvice at the Ashland location. However, there was a staff reduction and since then I wait in line for 10 - 15 minutes every morning. One employee is supposed to bring the dogs in the and note the account. I have had multiple issues on my account since the staff reduction, the issues were corrected. I have been taking my dog here since he was a puppy, we have tried multiple daycare / boarding places and four paws is by far the best! The staff loves my dog and they also work on some training if they see bad habits developing. I have a very high energy unique dog breed, and he has been met with patience and kindness. My girl has been consistently going to four paws since Dec 2020. Started with a couple hours and then progressed to four, even six if I'm held up! She absolutely LOVES Four Paws. When I drop her off her she greets her bffs with kisses and I'm yesterday news...It literally makes me happy seeing her big tail wag away. Barley loves the whole team there and they love her too!! And off she goes to play...pups are supervised during play, which is most of the day (boarding/ daycare doggies). Both outside/inside play areas are designated per size and activity level,ect. The building has an indoor play area that is also designated. If your kid(s) spending the night...they have kennels for one or two also grooming on site! Hello everyone i want to say my experience with this company was very odd although i was there for a job interview the employees wasn't as supportive as I thought they'll be. I did my interview 4 months ago they had a shortage of workers the places is a lil gloomy and dark for any pets and poorly made structure as for the rooms. After I spoke with a few employees they didn't seem to really care. I enjoy working with animals and their environments but this wasn't good. I have tried to contact the manager several times and owner and still no call back i don't know if it a discrimination thing but I would surely love to help you'll improve your establishment for the animals liking. read more

Literally the worst company ever! I worked there for about 7 months and when I first started I like it but then I slowly started to hate it. I worked in the back of the resort, cleaning rooms, giving medication's taken care of the dogs, etc. I also worked upfront as a receptionist. This business is filthy and disgusting. We always had bugs in our building. Our ceiling fell down mold, rotting wood you name it was there. It was nasty. Also, when I worked as a receptionist one time I ran a dog up to the customer for pick up. She asked me how was her dog so I was nicely honest to her telling her he played a lot, but he also also liked to hump other dogs and she was fine with that once she left my manager told me to never say anything negative about the dogs, they forced every employee there to lie to the customers. Peanut has been going to Four Paws whenever we go out of town for a year now and we have zero complaints. The staff was incredibly welcoming when we first starting going and have shown our furry friend so much love. We call at least once every time we go out of town, just to check on him, and every time, no matter who is working, they are able to give us ample feedback on how he's doing. They've always been able to accommodate our last minute requests and squeeze him in, even on holiday weekends. read more

Great place to send your pet for boarding! Our dog loves going here and playing outside all day with other dogs. She's always exhausted when we pick her up. The only issue we have ever had is that she might be muddy when we pick her up if it had rained recently, but easily avoided if you ask for a bath before pick up. read more

My dog loves this place! I have a two year old chihuahua- She's normally very skittish and gets intimidated by other dogs, but after boarding her here she's smiling every time I pick her up. My husband and I started taking our dog here for daycare on a weekly basis in October. After the first few weeks of attendance, there was only positive feedback from the staff about our dog. We then boarded him for a few days over Thanksgiving and called to make sure he was doing fine. Again, there was no mention of any issues. Suddenly, we received a call from the owner, John, on a Sunday night letting us know that they will no longer accept our dog because he is getting overstimulated and playing too rough with other dogs. We understood and relayed that we liked bringing our dog to Four Paws. After some further discussion, John agreed to give our dog another chance and said he would call back the next day. A week went by without a call. My husband tried calling several times and left messages with staff asking John to please get in contact with him. We received no response. We are left with many unanswered questions. If his behavior was an issue, why were we not made aware of this when we would drop him off and pick him up? Why were we told that everything was okay when we would call to check on our dog? Why were we given a "second chance" if it would not be honored by the owners? We are incredibly disappointed in the lack of professionalism shown by Four Paws and would not recommend it based on our experience. read more

I have to English Bulldogs and my fiancé and I struggled for months to try to find a boarding/daycare facility that we trusted enough to leave them with. Unfortunately my hesitations were confirmed after taking them to four paws pet resort. Each dog came home with kennel cough. I immediately took them to my vet and they were prescribed antibiotics. One of my dogs seems to slowly be progressing on the antibiotics, however, the other had to be taken to the emergency room last night with pneumonia and fluid in the lungs. I really wanted to like this place as it is very convenient for me, but I just cannot take my two dogs anywhere that gets them sick. And not just sick, VERY sick. After all was said and done I had to spend more than $400 in veterinary medical care... if you care about your dogs health, avoid this place at all costs. read more

I picked up my dog from 3 nights/ 4 days of boarding reeking of urine and her fur all clumped together (due to urine). I understand the dogs are allow to play inside together for many hours a day. However, by the way I picked up my dog, it seems their staff does not clean up after the dogs and that they are playing in each other's urine. read more

We love Four Paws! We've been taking our dog, Charley, since she was a puppy and we've had nothing but positive experiences with both boarding and daycare. As soon as we pull up, Charley wags her tail at hyper speed and is excited to go inside and play. The staff always welcome Charley by name and give us an overview of her day when we come to pick her up. She comes home happy and sleepy. I'll also say we were nervous when we first starting taking her as a puppy and wanted to make sure we picked the right place. The staff at Four Paws took steps to make sure she was comfortable and safe getting used to the environment and would pair her with small dogs or other puppies to play with. They'd also give us updates at the end of the day so we knew she was adjusting well, and would often show us cute or funny pictures of her from that day. The staff seem to genuinely care about the dogs and make sure they have a positive experience. The prices are extremely reasonable and the experience is fantastic, we highly recommend it! read more

My dog stayed for 3 nights. When she got home, she had uncontrollable liquid stools for 2-3 days. She was lethargic and didn't eat or drink for days. My apartment was a complete mess because she couldn't control her bowel movements. I had to miss work so I could take care of her and take her out every 1-2 hours at night. I brought her own food and bed while she was being boarded. They told me the diarrhea was stress induced. The staff was incredibly nice but they did not bother to tell me about her diarrhea until I got home and noticed it. She had dried stool all over her fur in the back area and I've never seen her so sick and depressed. Wouldn't recommend if it's your pet's first time. read more

We've boarded our two young dogs, one German Shepherd and one German-Aussie mix, here several times in the past couple of years. It's affordable and close to our house. We're always a little tentative about boarding our dogs or having someone watch them while we're away, because they take some time to warm up to dogs and people. However, every time I've picked up the pups, they seem happy and excited to be at Four Paws. They even gave our German a few days by herself to acclimate before slowly introducing her to the other dogs the first time she boarded there, which was nice since she does take some time to get adjusted. I have been taking my three dogs, ranging from 2 years to 10 years old, to Four Paws for two years now and have only had positive experiences! Every time I bring my dogs here we are greeted with the clean front office and hospitable and experienced staff. My dogs always come home tired but ready and excited to go back. When I was living in Richmond, I used to board my dog here all the time, because the price is cheap and the service seemed friendly and helpful. It wasn't long before I realized beauty is only skin deep. Twice my dog was returned to me with cut, bloody paws, and his normally sweet temperament suddenly turned timid and he developed aggression toward small, curly-haired dogs. Considering he grew up with three other dogs and used to love meeting new dogs at the park, this new behavior is completely out of character for him, so I believe he was likely attacked by a small curly-haired dog while staying at this kennel. Given his new behavior and past injuries, I don't believe these people monitor the dogs like they should, and I no longer trust them to take care of my dog. read more

For anyone who has a dog in Richmond, never EVER take your dog here. After seeing a few bad reviews online that were 5+ years old, we decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and trust more recent positive reviews. Our dog spent a week there while I was away in Canada and has since been throwing up almost every meal and having severe (in my opinion) digestive issues. After my boyfriend had a brief conversation in passing with one of our neighbors that we see regularly, they claimed that they too had taken their dog to 4 Paws, and he had come back with claw marks up and down his body from being aggressively mounted by other dogs, in addition to showing behavioral changes that signaled signs of human abuse. I am sick to my STOMACH that people who volunteer and/or choose career paths in order to help the well-being of animals could be so disgusting and negligent. I feel absolutely foolish for trusting this company with a dog that I have loved from the second I saw his picture. Take my word for it, any company that won't let you tour the facility that's supposedly "looking after" your dog beforehand doesn't deserve your time, your money or your pet. read more

I have been bringing my pup to four paws since she was twelve weeks old. She's now three and has been welcomed into the four paws family at both the north side and north Hamilton locations. The staff genuinely care about her and have been accommodating on more than one occasion for late notice overnight stays. With that being said, the most important thing is that she's so happy to be going to "school" and I'm even happier sending her somewhere I know will look after her and will give her lots of cuddles between playtime. I left my dog here for one night when I went out of town. I came back at 3pm to pick him up (they close at 6pm), and the doors were locked, lights were off, and no one was answering the phones. I stayed in the parking lot for an hour thinking they may have gone to get lunch and an employee at a local business came over and told me they closed down earlier in the day. I call all of their other locations to see if I could get in contact with someone and no one answered there either. I couldn't get my dog back. Then next day, I got a call saying they closed for snow....but there wasn't even snow on the roads. Ever since then (four months ago), my dog has been aggressive towards other dogs and has developed anxiety when I leave him at home. He has started destroying my apartment when I am at work, but before this stay, he was very well behaved. I will never be bringing my dog here again. read more

The Fan branch of Four Paws has been a welcoming home-away-from-home for our puppy. The family that runs the daycare & boarding center has been friendly and helpful each time we visit, and are always cheery with our boy. They have had fun reports on his latest behavior, friendships, and nicknames (one of the "three amigos" in his class!) and even remembered his birthday! We love dropping him off knowing he will be fully tired from a long playday when we see him again. Can't recommend Four Paws-Fan more! 10/10! read more

I took my 4-month old, small puppy here for daycare. When dropping her off, I indicated that this was her first daycare experience and that she gets nervous around really hyper dogs (she is around 3 lbs). When I picked her up, she was shaking out of fear, and did not stop shaking for about 20 mins after leaving. When I asked the staff how she did that day (since it was her first time at a daycare), I was met with blank stares. Upon further questions, one staff member said, "Uh, I don't know, I only saw her when she was eating lunch." The other staff member said, "She was just doing her thing, you know." No, I don't know, because my dog has never been to daycare before. Needless to say, I tried a different daycare (with a similar price point) two days later with none of the anxiety from my dog, and it had all of the customer service you would expect from an animal care facility.
