My experience fits with other's hit or miss experiences with staff. I went to get a new dog tag on a Thursday afternoon and needed help with the machine. Despite the machine being 10 feet away from the register and there being no other customers around, I had to go over to the cashier and ask her for help because she was paying zero attention to her surroundings. She wordlessly reset the machine and went back to her post (and phone). A minute later I had another issue with engraving and I had to repeat the process and request help. She again didn't say a word, just glared at me for requiring her to do some actual work. I think I'll stick with Chewy from now on, despite the convenience of this store. read more

It's a large location offering pet supplies - there weren't many customers when I went, but I think it's worth visiting for pet owners and animal lovers. I was greeted once I entered, which is a nice touch to the experience. The customer service seems to be great and the store is well maintained. It's home to live animals like rats, small fishes, turtles, birds, and even cats for adoption. The prices are fair. For example, the large turtles are $32 each. There's various well-organized sections dedicated to food and supplies for dogs, cats, and aquatic animals. The last two times I've been here, I've been helped by the curly haired, dungeons and dragons looking kid named Christian. Poor experience, but I mean what can you expect from someone working the cash register at petco. The first time, I was returning an item and the system wouldn't register the item when he tried scanning it repeatedly. Christian had a small temper tantrum, slamming his finger against the touch screen and angrily yelling how the "fucking system wouldn't work." Weird dude. Came back today, and was in a rush, and our big Christian is there again. As I walked up he said "long day? Looks like it." I found that to be quite rude as I'm not having a long day - just normal old me over here. I was silent the rest of the interaction after that, as it was not the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me, and as I'm leaving he sarcastically said "well I hope your day gets better." My day was going just fine before this interaction, and will go fine after, but there kid rue's not know I how to talk to customers whatsoever. Management at either the corporate level or the Redondo Beach store are idiots. I just stopped by to get several fish for my aquarium. There was only 1 person working in the store. I agree the poor abused employee can't provide customer service and run the checkout and watch the door at the same time. If you need customer service {fish, etc}. PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING A GROOMING HERE FOR YOUR DOG! We made the mistake of booking a grooming session here without reading the other reviews. This was the only Petco location that had openings 4 days in advance and there's a reason for that. The customer service was almost nonexistent here and the groomers were not friendly at all. We knew upon talking to her that the grooming would be subpar and we were right. We would've left, but gave her the benefit of the doubt. Upon receiving our dog, he was patchy, his tail was trimmed unevenly, and his paw pad were not trimmed at all. It was the most careless groomings we've ever had. Justin G is awesome. Called on a weekday afternoon to make an appointment, he was able to take my dog Suki that afternoon. Had to wait about 5 minutes as he was finishing grooming another dog. A shampoo, ear cleaning, nails clipped and anal glands expressed was done in about a half hour. He noticed that Suki was skunked when he bathed her (which was like 6 weeks ago), and used a special shampoo to diffuse the smell. It sure worked. The place I used to take her to would crate her and it would take about 4 hours for her to be groomed. This will be my go to place to bring Suki for grooming. read more

This store is such a hit and miss with its staff. One day you come in and everyone is very helpful. Another day (today) you come in and there are 3 people waiting to check out and one staff is doing the check out and the other two are sitting on the counter having a personal conversation. I ask if either of those two can assist the line and they look up and finally say they can take us at another register. The one with a bit of an attitude name starts with an A and was at register 3 in 2/3/25 at 130ish. I don't expect white glove service at a pet store but common customer service is not so common anymore. Pet supplies are expensive and unfortunately the bad outweighs the good so I will be going elsewhere. Hoping A can get more service training to avoid more customers leaving the business. read more

First time here, last time here. Avoid grooming and Spa at all costs! Took our dog here for a nail trim and express glands removal (expression). To start off, turnaround time was no longer than 10 minutes (talk about attention to detail). Anyhow, so we arrive to what appeared to be a shift change of some sort. Mr. Justin plops himself down in his desk chair as we are some type of inconvenience. Knowing us, we should've left at this point. No "hi, hello, how are you doing, nice dog, cute dog, etc., simple attentiveness were a none). We request such services and hand over our dog with a disconcerting look on each other's faces and depart for payment. No longer than 10 minutes later, Justin arrives and hands us our dog and states that we should probably see a veterinarian for further gland removal and walks away. Note, his nails were trimmed with the utmost lack of attention and care. To add to it, we then also noticed blood on our shirt. We return to the Spa where all three employees were just what appeared to be hanging out, and we appeared to be an inconvenience. We voice our concerns regarding his nails and the female employee looks at the other with a "whatever" look and says, "well maybe his nails grow that way"...wait what? Excuse me? We've had the dog for 8 years. You're kidding me right? Justin then says he'll re-attend to him (why? It should've been done right the first time) and then makes a forward advancement towards us...we leave. Upon leaving we ask the cashier (who was new, very attentive and caring I must add...kudos to her) to speak to a Manager. An Assistant Manager or "other" personnel comes out, listens to our concerns and says, let me call the Manager; at this point we leave. Whoever reads this, this pandemic is no excuse for the lack of care and service (as it was noted by yelp to please take this in to consideration when placing a review). If these employees (minus the cashier - the one Star is for her) give two sh*ts about the service they chose to provide and are just collecting a check and/or just going through the motions; then that just adds on to today's and the future of today's society. PCH in Redondo Beach had next day pickup on something I wanted, so I revisited it for the first time in awhile. I won't need to go anywhere else in the future! Their selection of Betta food rivaled the total of all the other stores I've visited, including many brands I had never seen before. I left with far more goodies than I anticipated! We rescued our Josie last year and this was the first place we went to to get supplies. The staff was SUPER friendly and was willing to answer any first-time owner questions with a smile and empathy. We took our Josie to another Petco for grooming because this place was booked. Comparing that Petco to this one is night and day. This Petco might be understaffed but whoever is there are friendly and always willing to help and answer questions. We took Josie for grooming this weekend because we're not happy with our regular groomer. Josie just gets a bath since she has short hair. Mari took care of Josie and she was so sweet! When I arrived I had no clue where the puppy wet food was so I asked this nice lady, I think her name was Zoey probably spelled differently but she was so helpful. She explained the brand of puppy food I feed my chihuahua that they have a shortage! This is my first puppy and we adopted him so that's all we been feeding him. So she showed me options for wet food and guided me to the isle where they have the canned pumpkin to help my little guy use the restroom. She helped so much because we had no clue. Cats. Don't get me started. Oops, too late. So I haven't been in this Petco location for at least several years, until today. I used to visit frequently when I was donating to a cat rescue that held adoptions here. As a result of all that rescuing, I ended up with a cat. Or, more accurately, the cat chose me. Originally he would eat just about anything. Over the years he became picky. So picky in fact, that now he will eat only one brand of wet food. And more recently, only one flavor of that brand. Wait, it gets worse. Apparently the manufacturer of that flavor of that brand must have changed the formula, because now he won't eat the stuff with the latest July 2020 expiration date. He will only eat the April 2020 expiration date. It's true, the new stuff even looks different - proof that Mr. Picky is not simply playing me. So I am driving all over creation, to every Petco & Pet Food Express, buying up whatever is left on shelves with the April date. It's ridiculous. Today, here, I was able to score several packets with the April date. When the April food runs out, Cat will undoubtedly go on a hunger strike. So I am buying myself some time until I can figure out what to do next. The friendly employee on duty listened to my dilemma & understood cat pickiness. Meaning he knew I was not completely crazy. Yet. As far as this Petco, except that they now offer more "healthy" pet foods, it hasn't really changed over the years. Only my cat has changed. My next stop will be the San Pedro Petco. As I drive around in the cold, what is the cat doing? Why, he's sleeping on the couch burrowed into a warm comforter, until dinner time. Being a cat guardian is not for the faint of heart. The staff at the front are friendly, helpful, and nice. In Grooming, Sara was nice. The other person had micro-aggression disguised in caring to make you do what she wants. Whatever maybe that's how she is and we all have so many things going on in our lives, this situation or job should not be the one thing that judges us and I accept people the way they are and continued on. The one thing I hate and drives me away from businesses is hidden fees. It shows that you're sketchy. Either tell me upfront so I can make a decision to accept it or just walk away and take my dog somewhere else. We got our puppy to try a bath and haircut for the first time at Petco. Online, it said the price for a bath is 37 and if you include a haircut it becomes 60 and that includes a nail trim and all the basic goodies. We got the haircut and it was fine and pup smelled good. I never judge haircuts too much. To be reasonable, the doggie is oblivious and hair grows out again. I got to the cashier and they had charged me de-matting fees. 4 of them on top of the 60 plus a nail filing fee for an extra 10. So my bill went from 60-70 to 105. Not cool Petco. First, when you list nail trimming in a haircut you shouldn't be charging extra for nail filing. It's either or not both. Don't get technical to be sketchy. Second, what the hell am I paying for in the haircut part of the service when I get charged for de-matting fees? Aren't they part of getting a haircut? During a haircut you're gona find matted hair. you deal with it or shave it as part of the haircut. Especially that my dog was getting shaved basically. At that point the matting doesn't even matter. With all that said, I was turned off by this experience and will be looking for another place to take my dog and make sure they are upfront and have no hidden fees to justify charging more like Petco does. read more

The management and staff need customer service training at this store. As other reviews indicate, they have a 'don't care' attitude. I booked a vaccine appointment and check up for my cat and arrived early As requested. The system says to stay in your car and text when you arrive which I did. Twenty minutes later I received a text saying that i was 'checked in' and wait in the car and they would notify me when they were ready. After 30 more minutes of staring at my phone waiting to be called in, I went inside the store and the vaccine 'check in' girl was said she texted me and called twice. No texts, no missed or blocked calls, and no voicemails on my phone. She was argumentative when I told her this and said I could talk to the manager. The manager explained these were old corporate COVID protocols and I should have come in the store in five minutes if I hadn't been called. How would I know this? She was fairly friendly but not apologetic and then put me in line behind two people with dogs who had checked in AFTER I had been waiting for 50 minutes and had an appointment time after mine (I asked). The vet was nice and treated my pet well but I won't return to this store. read more

**DO NOT USE THEIR GROOMING SERVICES** NOTE: this review is specifically for the grooming department, the other customer associates I encountered in the store were pleasant and helpful. The cut my dog received was extremely uneven, there were patches on his belly and chest that were completely missed. She shaved part of his face, so there's now a very sharp line near where his jaw is. His paw pads were not trimmed at all. The area near his bottom was also so unevenly cut that it looked like she had taken scissors, made a couple trims and forgot to finish the job. His nails were sharp and jagged even though I had paid extra to add on the nail buffing service. If I could rate this service a negative 0 I would. Absolutely will NEVER be returning to this location. Corey the groomer was not pleasant to speak with, her tone was harsh and condescending. When I mentioned my dog has been hot and itchy recently and asked for a recommendation for add-on services, she sharply told me that it was not possible for my dog to get hot because he has a double coat. Whether or not that's true, the tone in which she spoke to me was not welcoming, helpful, or in a manner of customer service. I will never return to this location specifically because of her. Overall my experience with the grooming salon was very negative. The other people working in the store were helpful and nice, but specifically Corey working in your grooming salon is a nightmare and I hope no other pet parents have to encounter her. read more

The manager Brian at Petco Redondo Beach had me literally sick to my stomach. After the ordeal I had with him, I got home and vomited from both ends because the hate he showed towards me had me so traumatized and in complete disbelief that someone like him could be a "leader" to employees and attribute customer service to a big corporation like Petco. I tried to return "Danny" the zebra danio that I purchased a cpl weeks ago. The lady (tall long blonde hair) informed me that I could not return because the manager said we do not except fish returns unless it was dead and because they did not house quarantine tanks. I questioned her. I asked her why if the return policy states a 30-day return guarantee on fish. I explained to her that the zebra danio was healthy but very aggressive towards my other danio and tetras. It also killed my crystal red shrimps. When I purchased the zebra danio it was described as a community peaceful fish. Unfortunately that was not the case with Danny. Anyway, Brian approached me and told me he could not accept the return on the fish because it could have ich. He was very co descending and I already knew from the start he was going to give me a hard time. Brian the manager never even looked at the fish. He said I could gift it to someone or "I would hate to say this but get rid of it". I told him absolutely not! That's why I wanted to return him because I thought they would put him in quarantine and try to resell him. Well I can take it from you and regift him. I said no thank you. And so my son and I left. To my parked car that is. I got in contact with customer service over the phone and ask them to verify what the return policy was on fish. She said 30days and "at their discretion" . It doesnt say anything about this on their return policy. I explained to the rep that the manager clearly denied me a return and to gift it or get rid of it. She asked for the stores number so she could get in contact with Brian the manager. After several minutes on hold, Mary the rep told me she spoke to him (which he denied after I went back to the store) and did not except the return because "it was a tropical fish and the water he was in had to be 80-90 degrees. First of all, unless it was a goldfish all if not most fresh water fish are "tropical" and second of all but def not the least he didnt even look at the fish let alone do a water temp which I have never ever heard of regarding returns. I asked the rep to call him back to tell him that this was not true. At first she was reluctant to do so but she did after I asked for a superior. Christian the person above had me on hold and explained to me that Brian said he did t except the exchange because I gmhad no receipt. HE NEVER ASKED for a receipt and even if I did not have a recipe he could easily look up my pal members acct up and it would confirm the date time and transaction number of purchase. This location is a MUST GO TO. The manager was very helpful (he brought my heavy order to the car and waited patiently as I put my boys in their car seats). The staff was inviting when we walked in. Yes, the location is outdated, but it's the excellent customer service that I drive out of my way to receive! Sometimes a fancy looking place doesn't mean 5 star treatment..it's the neighbor stores, mom & pop shops that my family loves to go to. We made a purchase online they their site for a reptile cage and other items at like 1am..and it was ready so quickly after they opened!! I was shocked how quickly they fulfill my order! I think we picked up about 10:30/45am. Oh and their wide variety of animals/pets they have for sale there. My kids ages 1 & 3 loved walking around the store before we "picked up" our order. I will give this location 1 star (although I'm aware I can't rate it lower) due to the decent service I received when we first purchased our hamster and the fact they actually followed through with their 30 day guarantee on animals purchased there. But let me tell you how it went with their customer service today...I apologize for the novel but I'm passionate about my animals. We bought a Syrian hamster from this location a few weeks ago, yes a SYRIAN hamster, AKA Teddy bear hamster. Today he had a very obvious case of wet tail which can be fatal in 48 hours if left untreated. We keep very good care of our animals at home, including cleaning the cage extremely diligently and taking care not to stress him. Well the first thing the MANAGER said to me is that they didn't carry that type of hamster. I can forgive the ignorance that they apparently have regarding the species of animals they carry, but while I was explaining the issue and asking about their policy she was rude to me and cutting me off. My voice was shaking by the end of it since it was clear they were not looking forward to covering his vet cost. This was over the phone. Once she heard me read the policy ( and had read it to herself off of the contract) stating that they would cover the cost of a vet visit if under the 30 days and taken to the approved vet, she first told me that they could take the hamster if I brought him to the Petco. She said that most likely they wouldn't be able to get him in today. So I called the vet that they had approved. They got me in within the hour. While I was there, a woman who I think may have been the manager I spoke to, walked in and started explaining the situation we had over the phone to the front desk. I heard, "IF she has the appropriate contract showing the date of purchase, and IF she bought it from our store" ( I think she may have still been confused over the "syrian" thing since she was unaware that Teddy Bear Hamsters ARE Syrian hamsters). At that point the front desk pointed to me saying that I was the one with the hamster and I already had the receipt and contract, practically shaking it at her since I was pretty annoyed. Shortened version and what I learned today... You may not get a healthy animal from this location. Keep your receipt and contract through the full 30 days. Their customer service needs serious improvement. Their concern for the well-being of sold animals is seriously lacking. They have no clue what species they are carrying. (This may only be true for some employees, I can only hope) The Redondo Beach Vet Clinic in the same center is quite good and I DO recommend them. read more

I have never been to this Petco, but I frequently visit the Petco located in Rolling Hills, and that store is always clean, and the people there are ALWAYS greeting you and offering help. I walked into the store with my puppy and there was no one to welcome us, it was like there was no one working there. I was meandering around the store, and in literally every single aisle there were stacked boxes of shipment!! So annoying!!! how can you sell stuff that are not even properly stocked?! It Gets better! So once i finally found the dog treats area (There are so many different places they keep them) i was looking closely at the gourmet treats they leave on the top of the shelf and there was literally, a cob web about 2 feet long. There were cobwebs literally everywhere on every aisle it looked dusty and dirty. I should have NEVER bought my sweet puppy treats from this Petco. I purchased a box of "chillout" treats, and let me tell you-the employee assisting my check out did not care about me as a customer! He was on the phone the ENTIRE transaction, it was an exchange process, where a slip needed to be fed into a machine. First of all, the slip was crinkled at one end, which i knew would jam the busted up looking machine. I was waiting there the entire time, watching him on the phone. He literally said no words to me. Someone (i think it was the manager) took over the transaction, had to fill out the slip AGAIN, to be fed into the machine. So now i get home and see there are little BUGS in my dogs treats!! Petco gets such bad reviews that I didn't even want to shop here. The plan was to go to Tidy Pets then head on over to Centinela Pet and Feed. For the life of me, I couldn't find Tidy Pets, so I decided to go in and ask the Petco people if they could direct me. I found out that the pet laundering place closed down, so since Petco has their own grooming facility, and my dog was mighty stinky, I thought "what the heck?" and made my way to the back of the store. Lauren was THE BEST! I'm a first time dog owner. I walked in completely clueless as to what to do with my big guy, but Lauren walked me through the whole thing. She kenneled my dog and advised me on food, collars, leashes -- the works! In addition, she presented me with a clean and fresh-smelling pooch! After all was said and done, she spent time with us afterward, even though her department was closed, to show me some training tricks and give me tips and advice. She was amazing and so helpful. Lauren really went above and beyond to assist and inform me! Cesar was also awesome, trying to further assist me in leads and food choices. Even on my way out to the car, Lauren and Anthony helped carry the big bags of dog food! I don't know about pet shops in general, but my experience at this location was STELLAR. Not only did I find everything I needed, but everyone was hands-down the most helpful, eager, friendly, and interactive staff that I've ever come across. Because of this, I will definitely be adding this Petco to my errand run. :) read more

This place (I have been to 2 Petco's in the Redondo Beach area) blows! I have never seen such a poor selection of products for fish in a pet shop (I think those mom & pop places are the way to go) not to mention all the dead/sick fish they have there. Never once was I asked if I needed any help and I found the whole experience very disturbing. Also one of the 3 fish that my boyfriend purchased at Petco died, I was just amazed the other 2 did not follow after seeing the conditions the poor fish are kept in. Dogs use their whiskers as a sensory device. Interfering with their whiskers can negatively alter with their spatial awareness and make them feel highly confused. This caused her to to bump into things more easily as she can no longer gauge the size and shape of nearby objects as easily. Grooming is horrible here and no customer service. Most of the people at the front are super nice but Jennifer one of the managers is super rude!! She's new and has a power trip but her title means nothing to the real world. Must be her first management position in life so she had me on speaker while speaking with me on the phone from Petco grooming for no legitimate reason. The level of professionalism and class is at the rating of ZERO. I addressed my concerns calmly and she started to panic as well as Justin lol. Neither of them could handle customer service amicably. Lisa is pretty nice and helpful. Everytime I took my dog here she ended up not getting her ears cleaned correctly so she got 2 ear infections from them not cleaning them thoroughly. It's obvious that Justin was rough with her ears because she won't let me touch neither of them!!!!! She won't stop shaking her head and and they're now pink. My dog also came home with bumps all over her body after getting groomed. I should've paid more attention to the reviews. Had my new dog groomed twice by Corey Young and she does great work and the price is reasonable. I have a long haired Terrier that I rescued in January after my chihuahua pasted away in November from cancer. Corey has also groomed Paco for years. Rocky looks great too! Corey gives great service and has been grooming for years and knows her breeds and haircuts. She is very kind to the dogs that come into her care. This review concerns the Adult Dog Training class. Kejuan is an excellent trainer and I highly recommend his services especially if you have an older dog with no previous experience. These are tough waters to tread when you have limited confidence in your 10 year old 'puppy' to learn new tricks. Enter Petco's Kejuan, whose experience rivals even Cesar himself but is local, available and eager to help. The classes are geared to easily familiarize your pet to a simple, structured environment. Subsequently, more challenging topics are covered which include what is going on at home, work, other household members and misc challenges to make the experience most useful. After interviewing Kejuan prior to signup he walked me though the entire process. I could not imagine hiring someone more knowlegeable and confident to address serious concerns in maintaining a calm, cool, collected home environment.
