Brought my Dog in for a bath and nail trimming. Made a 10 o'clock appointment to drop him off with the groomer. After inspecting him for any issues, they took him into the back. Leave for 5 minutes and Petco calls me. Let me state we have been going for over 2 years with NO issues. The groomer says I have to return to get my dog they are not working on him because he growled. "It's not safe for groomers or the dog." I had to go back. Waited over 10 minutes to pick him up, nobody at the desk. I had to call the store for a manager so I could get the groomer to come out with My Dog. He was happy as can be. The groomer said they couldn't work on him and I should see a vet. I picked up my dog, touched his paws, back, butt with no reaction. Even had the groomer touch him. She said the last groomer that saw my dog was fired for being rough with the animals and maybe she was rough with my dog. No manager ever came over and the groomer said "sorry maybe comeback next week for a nail clipping to start over". NOT GOING to happen, having family over for thanksgiving and will have to do it myself. I'm so very disappointed. Petco traumatized my dog for grooming apparently and nobody told me about her being fired until today. And when my dog walked in, btw, he rolled onto his back, as he usually does, and she touched him all over while his tail wagged. Something seems odd here. read more

ZERO stars!! I have been receiving grooming services for both my dogs, one 12 and one 7 for there whole lives. We followed the amazing PHIL to this location. Since the passing of Phil, we have gone through 3 groomers because they can't keep staff. I have always gone with the flow and understood. Today when I went to drop them off to the 4th groomer, I was explaining my one dog, 5 YEARS AGO, got a clapsed trachea she is totally fine but sometimes honks when stressed. AGAIN has been groomed for the last 5 years almost every 6 weeks. She tells me she can't her, its policy. I have been a Vital Care member since 2016 and I have three dogs. My groomer quit and I had three appointments within that week. I called to inquire about a new groomer to take over, and grooming didn't answer so we tried a different prompt to get through so we don't have to drive there. I get a nasty person named Christina who asked me if I knew how to listen to prompts. I told her that is no way to speak to a customer of 9 years and that she had a disgusting attitude. She hung up on me. Next morning, I came with one of my dogs to get groomed with his new groomer, and as we were talking, I asked if there was a store manager that I can speak to about my interaction with Christina. She said there wasn't and I said no problem, another time. I came back 2 and a half hours later, picked up my dog and left. I had my husband with me the whole time who can back up my story. Brought my dog home and get a text this afternoon that my other two dog's appointments are cancelled which are in 2 days and we're scheduled 2 months in advance. I call in because I assumed there was a mix up and she came on the phone and hastily told me "I'm banned from Petco" because she was "told" I said "I was looking for her." Falsifying a fake threat to get me out of the store, PERMANENTLY. Already getting my account reinstated and got a bunch of credits.) Not to mention, her own peers told me how crazy and unstable she is. She will end up losing her job just because I have all the power to do so, and Petco will lose a ton of money on my three grooming services every 6 weeks and my vital care account. Maybe if she really was threatened she should of called the police, no? Coming from a family of law enforcement, that's what I would of done. Where's the proof of threat? Where's the cops? After Petco in Selden had some internal issues in their grooming department, we followed Sam to Petco grooming in Patchogue. She is so wonderful with our 2 Weimaraners, and while they don't love having their nails trimmed, they have gotten used to her and behave perfectly. This store is so much nicer than Selden, seems larger, and definitely has more options, like an in-house Vet department. Sam is just great with our dogs, loving and patient! read more

I've always had a decent experience at this store. They have a good selections of cat litter, cat toys and the like (plus other pets as well) and I've even switched over to using their brand of cat food. Our newest cat enjoys it a lot, and it seems quality-made but also doesn't break the bank. The staff had always been helpful and friendly. My only complaint is that it seems their renovations have been going on a long time. It doesn't seem to effect their inventory or business really, so it's more of an observation than a complaint. HORRIFIC customer service in this location. Immature and UNPROFESSIONAL who tried to tell me I never had an appt there and the employees in grooming dept. who refused to look at my text proving I DID HAVE AN APPT. I've been going to Petco for 30 years and never met such combative employees. And that incudes the store manager, Alana. Because an old freind worked there I drove from Islip to have my dog groomed but I was met by a RUDE woman at the grooming desk and glad my dog wasn't groomed. The man with the nose rings and mohawk hairdo was sticking up for her demanding I leave the store before they call the police. Of course i did. According to the manager, Alana, they did call the police and made a report claiming I refused to leave the store. (She wasn't there) After shopping, grooming, getting vaccinations for the past 30 years and never one issue, I was told I can no longer get any services there! I read some of the reviews, and my experience does not match some of the negative reviews. First, let me begin by saying the vet portion is fantastic. The entire staff is super friendly, and the doctors are fantastic. I also use the grooming services, and fortunately enough, my experiences have always been great. Ashley is excellent, and my puppy enjoys being groomed. The store itself is always stocked, and the associates are always friendly, providing great insight when needed. Unfortunately, not all Petco stores are designed with services and staff in mind. However, this location, in my opinion, should be used as the model. Regarding Vital care, I was never forced, and it does pay off to purchase. Would you please keep in mind that vital care should not be considered dog insurance. It compliments your insurance. Meaning it does not cover shots etc. It covers the examination fee of 60.00 and also provides discounts on grooming, and gives you 10.00 of credit each month towards Petco rewards. Please read before you purchase and don't assume. I highly recommend this location, and I'm only speaking based on my experience. read more

I'll keep it short- your "trained associates" should not meet an 8 week old puppy and suggest vital care, when they can't even use the perks until they're 4 months old. I go to a vet for his vaccines and other upcoming routine visits - so the primary reason I wanted vital care was for the nails and teeth (which is the most advertised part of vital care - so please Jessie the manager you don't need to read me the other benefits like I am a sort of incompetent who didn't do the research or couldn't read it on my own). Now I'm trying to cut my 10 week old puppies nails without hurting him, and paying $20 a month for someone not to do it. Make it make sense. read more

I generally only go to Petco when I need dog food I have dachshunds and they like the Natural Choice Dachshund food. The price is pretty good and they run sales all the time. The cashiers are always friendly. The store could use better sales people that know about the different products and food. It is very hard to find anyone other than a cashier or stock person in the store. Almost never have to wait for checkout and I have never had a bad experience here. read more

Aquaria only review I for one get very anxious in big box stores buuuuuut where else can you go when less than 24 hours after winning 2 Orandas they start exhibiting serious signs of illness and duress on Memorial Day? The guys that work here are nice and display a serious interest in their profession and a decent knowledge of fish. They are human, but they've obviously done their research outside of PetCo. The display tanks are super clean and appropriately stocked. They have the run of the mill selection but an unusually wide variety of freshwater snails and some unique fish species you don't normally see in commercial stores. They're Glofish tanks are definitely something to see. The Cichlids look great but were suspiciously chill. Decent selection of Veil Tail Bettas. EXCELLENT selection of live plants. Small but healthy coral stock. All of the accessories, chemicals, supplements you can possibly think of. I'm not a saltwater person, never even looked. The Prices are what you'd expect. Both associates seem capable of helping build out a healthy tank, assuming you have enough sense to think about the nitrogen cycle prior to placing a fish, because, you know, no one is a mind reader. read more

We bring our Basset Hound here to get groomed. He absolutely adores Phil and heads straight to grooming for some kisses everytime we come into the store. Phil is always so thorough and helpful and always suggests the right treatment for our dog's bouts with dry skin . Phil is also very knowledgeable about hounds. His tips have both saved us money and frustration in caring for our hound (especially his ears!) Artem always comes back so spiffy. He truly loves seeing Phil and getting groomed. Me and my family were going to buy a fish I believe the staff member who helped us out was Steve and I feel so discriminated as an human being and as a Latino who is a American citizen he sold fish to the young white females and when it was our turn he started asking us questions about how big is our tank and we didn't know how big exactly is our tank so we gave him a guessed size of the tank and he said he didn't want to seek the fish me and my family started asking him why he needs to even know if we had a tank or not all we wanted was to buy a fish just like everyone else. He even started to yell at my nephew and he started crying so me and my family started to get very aggravated but we still kept our cool. I bought 2 products and was offered a free product with any purchase of that particular brand. I got a bag of dry food, a 24 pack of wet food and a free bucket of litter. Upon checking out, I realized that they charge you per can (even for a 24 pack) which I found strange. It was pretty pricey so out of curiosity, I checked chewy's prices once I got home. I saw that I could have saved about $30+ from ordering on chewy. I called petco to see if they would match the price to which they said yes, not a problem. So I go right back to petco, but both the cashier and manager stated they don't match chewy prices, only petco online. So I told them to just return the whole thing since I could get free 2 day delivery from chewy and save a decent amount of money. However then they changed their minds stating "we will do it but just this one time". After they finally figured out how to match the price, they kept insisting that we could no longer receive the free product that was offered for purchasing the specific brand. Mind you there was no minimum price to spend in order to receive the free product but they kept saying since they were doing a price match with chewy which they "don't normally do" that we would need to pay for the item. We end up paying for the extra item however upon leaving we decide to check petco's website since they kept saying they only match petco's online prices and then it hit me why would the online prices be different than in store? Go figure. So upon checking the website, Petco online had the same prices as chewy. We tried to see if they would give us the free item since it was actually a petco price match now and not just chewy - and it was an additional $12 difference (on top of the $30+ difference that they eventually refunded) however they refused. Long story short, shopping in store is a scam at this location, always check petco's online website beforehand as you will likely save a lot of $ and a lot of time OR just shop on chewy from now on as I will be doing. Even though I can easily buy my miniature pinscher a food online I always make a trip to pet o because I love being able to bring him along to meet people and say hi to the other dogs - this way I can have him try on collars, sweaters, or in this last visit - Halloween costumes - I'm actually really happy I had him try them in because they ran much smaller than I thought- also he was just straight up not a fan of some of them - I got a bunch of feedback from the workers as well as other customers and what they thought of the outfits - they constantly have adoption events here as well as fun events like a Halloween pet parade. If I ever need any help they are very knowledgeable and although I have never used it they periodically provide veterinary services which is contracted through a mobile service as well as grooming! I do have to say petco can be on the expensive side but again it's the novelty of bringing in your pet for the experience. read more

Each time I've been in here I wound up in an argument with associate or manager.( talked down to me as if I know nothing, meanwhile I have 2 years marine biology classes, and now about 15 years of experience with aquatic animals.) Anyway, went there today and was pleased to see mostly healthy saltwater tanks and frag tanks. Prices decent. The only issue was the checkout line system needs work. I have stopped using petco for the simple fact it's cheaper to order from chewy.com also the biggest reason I'm tired of going in this store and dealing with completely lazy and brain dead cashiers also to mention rude. I have to correct myself there are a few very nice and helpful cashiers there but it seems like most of the times I go I wind up getting the ones who feel the customer owes them something. The one time I said I have a coupon for petco let me try them again and guess what I wind up getting a cashier named Valerie who was the worst out of any cashier I've dealt with there lazy and rude not a hello and I the customer had to lift the dog food bags I had on the counter because she couldn't get to the bar code. It's your job as a cashier to find twist turn etc to find the bar code not mine. She was very over weight and maybe this is her problem being lazy will get you that way also thinking your doing me a favor is complete BS. This is the world today people these young people just feel cause they show up at work they deserve a pay check and don't need to use there brains hands and put some motivation behind what they do. If I didn't say have a nice day she wouldn't have said one word !!! This is why many people buy there things online because they don't have to go out to a store and deal with the rudeness and get aggravated over lazy disrespectful people. No hassle buying online. Maybe the manager needs to train these kids a little more before putting them out on the floor to deal with the public.
