Such a welcoming place! Even before you walk in. As you pull into the parking lot, there's a red Frenchie statue that instantly makes you smile. I brought my dog in for grooming and couldn't be happier. Since it was the holiday season, they added little Christmas bow ornaments to her fur, absolutely adorable. The grooming itself was excellent. The staff is friendly and courteous, which I always appreciate, and it's good to know they also offer boarding if needed. Prices are reasonable too. Definitely a great spot for your pup. read more

This pet hotel is a place you can trust to care for your pet and have you in and out with a happy dog. I drive from Huntington to Riverhead to drop off my lulu who is a full of energy Rottie anytime I go away. The staff is all amazing. My rescue, "TRAPPER", loves the Hydrant. When I work he goes to daycare. The staff is flexible and attentive. Trapper needs lots of exercise, which he gets with the friends he has made at the Hydrant. He returns home tired and content. I have had him groomed at the Hydrant. The groomer was very attentive, noticing his ears were red and letting me know. He is always extremely excited to go to the Hydrant. He actually starts talking when we get close. After sending my golden retriever here for multiple weeklong stays (and spending thousands of dollars) over the past 18 months, I picked her up today and shared some constructive criticism with their staff about their social media. I suggested that it may be simpler for them to take group shots of dogs so that all owners could see their pups rather than multiple shots of one dog with personalized comments. I later noticed that Coco's beautiful tail had been unprofessionally cut short without any explanation or warning. When I called back to ask what had happened, I was told that I was no longer welcome to bring her to the Hydrant because I had dared make a suggestion for them to improve their customer service and social media practices. They even suggested I was inventing the fact that her tail had been cut! Who is running this crazy place?! read more

I have to leave a bad review because over a year later, and hundreds in training, my dog is still reactive. My dog loved every dog he'd ever met. We would go to the dog park weekly and we never had a problem but it always made me nervous not knowing who would be there so I decided the hydrant hotel was safer. Since taking him for daycare so he can socialize I cannot even have him around other dogs. Something must have happened during playtime, I can only assume since no one told me anything, and now he is extremely fearful to the point I can't even walk around my neighborhood. It saddens me and makes me feel guilty because I thought it would be beneficial but now my extremely social dog is very fearful of other dogs. I also have a whistle gps tracker on him that tracks his location and activity. Their policy is that all collars are taken off for play time but on one occasion they forgot to take it off. They say playtime is 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon with a break in between. I dropped him off just for the morning session and they forgot to take his tracker off. Instead of 2 hours of playtime he only had 45 minutes and spent the rest of the time in the kennel. When I picked him up I questioned the woman working the desk and she said "sorry we must have been busy". That's unacceptable. They kept 100% of my money for less than half of what I was promised. I had only taken him a handful of times and stopped going after the 45 minute incident but it was enough to do damage I'm still trying to undo over a year later. read more

They do a great job on my dogs nails and grooming; and God bless because he is the most anxious dog I've ever known. So glad they opened up in Riverhead! read more

We have always used a house/pet sitter when on vacation but due to unfortunate events had to board my two dogs. This ended up to be a wonderful experience for everyone. The staff is great and so good to my dogs! The dogs looked great when we picked them up 9 days later. They were happy, healthy, and I could tell by talking to the staff that they had spent plenty of time with them. We will be boarding there from now on. They were worth price! read more

My pup Shelby went there at least once a week for their daycare for the last year. The staff and owners are absolutely amazing. Not only do they love your dog as much as you do but they are also so helpful with tips and tricks whether it be training or food, holistic remedies. I would not recommend this kennel to anyone for their pet. Our dog's bedding was destroyed the Hydrant's owner claimed it (needed to be washed because my well trained 9 year old "repeatedly urinated on it"). Our dog has NEVER had an accident in our home and has NEVER urinated on his bedding. We have spoken to our vet who believes that the dog was either not walked regularly/long enough, placed in a kennel too small for his size and/or in an environment which made him fearful. Dogs are den animals and will not urinate on their bedding unless given no alternative. Although the owner claims to have bathed my dog, and provided a video which was supposed to show our dog being bathed, the video is less than 15 seconds. There is no water, no lather, there is no soap, there is no drying - it appears that our dog was merely having deodorizer rubbed on him. As for the video of the dog being walked, again 30 seconds is not indicative of the number of times our dog was walked or the length of time for each walk. Sorry, the owner's claims are just attempts to disclaim a legitimate complaint from an extremely disappointed FORMER client. read more

Had a mild family emergency and needed a place for my puppy to stay . I can't say enough great things about this place. Staff so accommodating and courteous. Had pictures of my dog on line. The staff at Hydrant is incredibly helpful. We needed a place for our dog to be dropped off after arriving in NY by courier and Hydrant went above and beyond to make sure there would be someone to greet our pup after his long trip even after hours. The manager even called to check in multiple times about his arrival. True hospitality! read more

Not happy with the recent stay for our boxer baby. We left him at the Riverhead facility for three days and when we called that we were picking him up today, we were told that he had urinated on his bed several times (we have had him since he was 2 and in the 7 years we have had him, he has NEVER done this) and the bed "exploded" in their washer. I have washed the bed numerous times in my washer with no problem. We were also told that due to his urination, he would get a bath. Well, when we got him in the car, he was panting and he certainly didn't smell like he got a bath! When we got him home, he guzzled nearly an entire bowl of water. Frankly, I don't think our boy was walked frequently or given the attention he needed. I am extremely disappointed and in the future if our dog-sitter is unavailable, it's back to Wooded Acres for us and our baby! read more

Going away for 9 days and have to board our 11 month old Samoyed for the first time. Hydrant was featured by News 12 so we figured we'd check it out. We went alone at first as we were told when we called that we couldn't bring our dog on the tour of the facility. Upon arrival we were greeted by Anthony who was very nice and assured us that not only would our dog's needs be met but it would be a fun experience as well. He gave us the tour and the grounds seemed sufficient. The boarding area was extremely loud and a bit smelly. He told us that we should've brought our dog, which was annoying after being told we couldnt. We visited again today with our dog so he could get a feel for it before we decided to book a "room" The guy at the front desk wasnt very friendly and didn't even acknowledge our dog at all. We were escorted to an indoor play area and adjoining fenced outdoor area. We passed a few employees on the way who also payed zero attention to us. The outdoor area was covered in poop and smelled pretty bad. All in all I didn't get a very good feeling and will not be leaving my dog here. Although Anthony was nice enough I wasn't pleased with the rest of his staff. We decided on a warmer doggy hotel in Setauket. read more
