Unfortunately we will no longer bring our dog to be groomed here. On more than one occasion we were told our dog would be done in 1-2 hours and then it's been 4+ hours and still no call. One time we dropped off our dog at 11:30 and at 5pm no one was answering the phone. We drove over since we were worried and there was only one employee working. Our dog wasn't done until after closing. Our dog is a family member so it makes me very upset to have them to be in a cage waiting to be groomed all day. It would be nice if they were honest saying they over booked the day and have us reschedule or drop our dog later off in the day. We enjoyed supporting a local business but unfortunately this has happened more than once and it can't be overlooked. read more

First time I used Pet Port. I have a four year old pit mix Jason and Danny were great. They have great personality and awesome with my dog. I found them after an issue with Petco in Patchogue Pet Port is in a nice old home and I think it's a great environment for the pet it makes them feel like a home not a vet's office. I needed to get my Golden a flea bath since he was staying with friends in an upstate farm. When I called Pet Port and explained what has happpened to my dog, Dan assured me that he could and would wait for me to return back to LI and that he would wash,bath and help get rid of the fleas. Dog Groomer- PET PORT. I just have to vent here. Pet Port. I know...I know, EVERYBODY loves them...I used them to groom my Havanese. The LAST appointment I ever went to, I went to pick him up and noticed that one ear was badly affected. Angry red sore spots and spots that were actually bleeding were an obvious sight! I was literally aghast, angry, and upset. I asked about it and this new groomer (never saw him before. A youngish man with blonde hair) said he had to "remove the hair in his ears". I swear, it looked as if he pulled the hair out in clumps. He didn't look fazed at all... very matter of fact about it. I paid for the service and grudgingly give a tip. I took him to his vet, Dr. Fredericks, the next day. I had to get 2 different kinds of medicine. It looked as if an infection was setting in. $250 later, I indignantly went down and talked to the owner, Holly Levis (who used to be a DJ at a Jazz station). I wanted a refund, or for her to pay my vet bill. I felt that was fair. This guy injured my puppy! Well.... she screamed me down. She actually LIED and said my indoor puppy had so many fleas they had to use a special shampoo for fleas, clean the entire room bottom to top, and bomb the place overnight, AND that i had to bomb MY house, wash all the bedding, etc!!! She had me feeling 3 feet tall, or short, as it were. I actually APOLOGIZED !!!! A few times!! Ohhhh, she was good! I went home, vet bill in hand and decided I didn't need to 'de-flea' my home. It took some time to realize that if my puppy had fleas, Dr. Fredericks would have said something immediately!! If my puppy had fleas, I would have had bites on my ankles! This girl LIED. This girl made me feel horribly. This girl intimidated me to the point of apology! Now every time I pass that place, I still feel seething anger in the pit of my stomach. When people praise that place, I have to keep my factual account to myself, while biting my lip. How dare she. She doesn't deserve praise. Her employees deserve the praise. She is hardly there, other than at the end of the day to collect her money from the day's receipts. Ok. Rant is over. Do as you may, precious dog mommies and daddies. This is my experience. There were 2 wonderful groomers who were experienced and excellent at what they did, and obviously well trained. They were wonderful with my elderly, and arthritic, flay coated retriever, and my other dog who was terrified to go. I don't know if that glom is still there. But I say, buyer beware. Stay away from him. He knows not what he does. read more

Had a bad experience at my usual groomers so wasn't going back. My Morkie was getting shaggier and shaggier by the day. Went to Pet Port on a recommendation from a woman I happen to meet. What a great experience! Jason the groomer did an amazing job. My morkie was happy, calm and looked and felt amazing. Also, Danny at the front desk was very nice and accommodating. Wow, this place was great! It was my first time dropping my dog off at a groomer to give her a bath and I wasn't as worried as I would normally be because the people there were very friendly and I could just tell they were going to take great care of my Shepherd. I called other places before I decided on Pet Port and they were going to charge me $65 just to bathe my dog. Pet Port charged me $35 to wash my dog, clip her nails, brush her, and clean her ears. Love Pet Port. I was reluctant at first bc one of my pitties is so hyper. However, she came out smelling like a rose with the cutest pink bandana on! Danny and Jason are excellent and they also have an assistant (a mature guy with long hair who is so friendly and kind!). I've been taking my dog to Pet Port for years now to have her nails clipped. Every time I call they say, Come on down. My dog is an old girl and they are so gentle and sweet with her. They hardly charge me anything for a nail clip. I cannot recommend Pet Port enough. I've used a different place in the past but never again. Along with my old girl, I now have two more dogs and they all go there. Bottom line...my dog looks beautiful! Jason and Danny are very knowledgeable in what they do. I got a scare at first when Jason told me he'd have to shave my dog's tummy. In my book, that's a no-no because I have a Samoyed...I always have him groomed au naturel. I believed is dense undercoat could be brushed out, so we were kind of at odds in that respect. I expressed my dismay and Jason listened! He brushed him without having to shave him. And he came out gorgeous! He worked very hard on my dog and it showed! The reason for the 4 stars rather than 5 was that disagreement. However, he gets 5 stars for how well he groomed my dog. I will definitely return to Pet Port! read more

I brought my little shih tsu mix in for a grooming. I had been there twice before and had a wonderful girl do the grooming. I forgot her name but she left and moved out of state. I called and Dan (who is the owner) said he would do it. I was a little skeptical, but he said he know how to groom him. Well he came home with a short, short cut all over. He has marks under his arm which have no hair at all and are sore and red. He has never looked worse. Dan did no styling at all just cut his hair to less than a 1/4 of an inch long. He was very traumatized. I am watching his underarms to make sure that they do not get infected. They look that sore. Will NEVER go back. I am extremely unhappy!!! read more

Went there years ago when it first opened. Horrible service on my dog, constantly did the things I asked them NOT to do. Owner was very rude and decided to berate customers instead of helping them. it took me awhile to find a shop who shaved cats. I have had Tommy done in Oregon and I found a mobile groomer in New York but lost his card. I was on the computer for weeks looking for someone to shave my boy. I found Pet Port and it was really close. I took him down this morning and met Danny and Joe. Joe had a min pin that was so cute and I held awhile while Danny took care of Tommy. He did a fabulous job and gave him the lions cut that I love. When I got Tommy home he just strutted around like he was king and I'm sure he felt much lighter. The price was great and the people were so friendly. I have a 13 year old Keeshond that was in desperate need of grooming. I had never used Pet Port before, but read the reviews and decided to give it a try being that it was so close to where i lived. I called on Saturday and was told that they were booked, but would put me on a waiting list in case there were cancellations. They called me and had a cancellation and I brought my dog in at 2PM. I met with Jason and explained what I needed (my dog is diabetic and I need a spot for insulin injections and glucose monitoring) and had a few other requests. This was the first and ONLY time I have ever picked her up from a grooming that she wasn't jumping out of her skin or dragging me to get out the door. She was very relaxed and calm and NOT to mention, had the BEST grooming ever!!!!! I was so happy the way she looked. It was exactly what I wanted and needed.
