My experience at this Petco was so unnecessarily rude that I felt it needed to be shared. The employee we dealt with, Caitlin, rolled her eyes at us several times -- right in front of other staff -- and refused to help with even basic questions. When we asked about adding new fish to our established tank (which had been running successfully for over 15 years in the past), she told us we'd "freeze our fish to death" and insisted that the fish listed as 3-4 inches on the tank would actually grow several inches larger. We were then told our only option was to buy a goldfish, and in the same breath, Caitlin said our 15 gallon tank was "too small" because a goldfish would supposedly grow over a foot long. The entire interaction came across as condescending and dismissive, despite the fact that we've kept healthy fish for years. Pet stores should have staff who educate customers respectfully, not belittle them. Very disappointing experience. I went in with my autistic son to buy a fish he wanted for his tank, the assistant manager (who insulted me a few years ago as well) refused to let my son pick out a fish for his tank because according to her I had "too many fish" in it for her to sell. I don't even know how big my tank is non the less how many fish are in there, I guessed 3 gallons and said several tetras, she claimed she couldn't sell me a fish, based on what? My kid left disappointed and is asking me where his fish is. She seemed off and I asked her if she was on drugs, the register worker shook his head acknowledging the bizarre nature of the interaction. Beside that the tanks there are littered with dead, rotting fish, you can rest assured that whatever fish I would have purchased would be safer with me. First let me start off with I have owned fish for 45 years. I have had freshwater, brackish water and salt water tanks. I went to by some little fish - basically $12-15 of fish. I was immediately grilled by the salesperson about what size tank I had and what kind of fish. I told her I knew what I was doing and to please just get the fish I wanted. On Thursday 8/04/22 I went to the Petco store in Oceanside on Long Beach rd . I was in there for about two hours trying to get my two dogs new collars, leashes & some other accessories. On Friday 08/05/22 I went to the Petco store in Baldwin on SunriseRise high way. I was in there approximately 3 minutes looking for two dog collar leashes & some other accessories. A store representative name Alfred came right where I was and assist me in not only selecting what I needed but made sure I was satisfied. He measured the collars on my two dogs, picked out matching leashes. Then we went over and he explained to me the different varieties of dog treats. Alfred was so polite and informative. While on the check out line I saw Alfred giving that same attention he gave to me to several other customer on the floor. I spend over $200.00 in that store. Alfred should be the poster child of how a employee engages with guest that come into a establishment. They discriminate against handicapped pets. My dog had an appointment for a dog grooming service. When we arrived, we were told he could not be groomed due to his birth defect which his knee is out of place causing a slight limp in his right back leg. He is not in pain, he runs, he walks, he stands on his back legs without issue. He is a happy, playful dog with an awesome temperament. Even though he was groomed at this location previously having the same handicap, Erika would not groom him. We told them he has no problems being groomed and we would sign a waiver if needed. Just in case they thought we would say they caused his defect. I was completely disgusted and hurt for my little 4.25 pound Yorkie. There are too many caring, kind, and understanding groomers to send my pet to a place that discriminates against handicapped dogs. They are supposed to be the place where all pets go, not just pets they deem worthy. I can only imagine the treatment for those pets who have a missing limb or a little wheelchair. I am extremely dissatisfied with your grooming service, February, 4th 2024 at 1:30pm est. I didn't have the choice to pick my stylist so it cannot be blamed due to my negligence. Upon reaching the Petco in Oceanside I was warmly greeted as per business etiquette and protocol and handed off my dog to the worker there. Whenever I go to petco I send or show a picture of previous haircuts I've received from this exact petco location to the worker as a reference as to how I want my dog's hair cut. The worker easily recognized and acknowledged this and proceeded to take my dog to the back for his haircut. I also made it a point to the worker where I very clearly and explicitly say that she should only be cutting the hair on his body (which includes his back and belly), leave some of the hair on his tail to make it look fluffy and to avoid overly cutting the hair on his face area. She very clearly understood what I said and even repeated it back to me conveying how she understood my instructions. I then later return to petco to get my dog and as per petco's rules I pay and even tip the stylist generously before I can even look or receive my dog. After that process is done I finally get to see the monstrosity that was my dog's haircut. Not only did she so clearly forget the pictures I showed her when I dropped off my dog but she also forgot the very clear instructions I gave to her and that she even repeated back to me. Not to mention she cut so dangerously close to my dog's ears. In all my years of going to this location no one has ever cut so close to my dog's ear to the point where I can see the cartilage and outline so clearly. The only excuse she gave to this horrible haircut she gave to my dog's ears which I was extremely mad about was that he moved too much. For someone working as a pet groomer how can you not be trained and skilled enough to handle if a dog moves slightly. And why are you actively cutting if the dog moves? That was a flimsy excuse given to circumvent any further repermainds or displeasure about the haircut when in actuality she clearly forgot the very clear instructions given to her. If she did not have a good memory then he should've written it down or asked to receive the picture if she couldn't remember it. The Stylist working on my Dog's name is Sabrina. I do not and will not recommend her to anyone going there to groom their dog since she cannot follow clear instructions given her by pet owners. read more

I thought she was nice and I gave her, what I thought were good tips. now that dogs are getting these viruses from other dogs and dying, I asked her if they were taking any precautions and can I hold my dog whenever she needed to put her in a cage. I made an appointment for my dog at 3:00 and she must have put in the wrong time and told me my appointment was for 1:00 they told me the next time she could "fit me in" was Thursday. The manager Amy is the most unhelpful, obnoxious person I ever met. I purchased training sessions for my two dogs. Mind you my one dog who is a puppy was being spayed and we couldnt start for 2-3 weeks until she healed. I was told no problem just pay for it and call when she's recovered. In the meantime, my mom who has dementia got sick so I've been caring for her and we just don't have anytime to get to startinf training. We NEVER started BTW so that is an important fact. I called the store and was told by a worker no problem come in and ask for a manager and they can refund you. Thats after she looked up my account and told me that. I got to the store and get the pleasure of meeting Amy (can you hear the sarcasm) she told me that it's past 60 days and there is nothing she can do. Meanwhile it's literally only days past due and I had called the store the beginning of the week and couldn't get there until Sunday so it wouldn't have been past 60 days. In addition, I had to wait 2-3 weeks to start because my puppy was having surgery and they told me no problem just pay now. So right there is 21 days of their 60 day policy! Amy says I have no knowledge of your call meanwhile the worker who took my call was standing right there and when I walked in store she knew my concern and started processing my refund then she called Amy over to override and Amy said oh no this can't be refunded. Lovely Amy then gave me the 1-800 number and says Petco corporate can help. I call the number they tell me they cannot help me as I purchased the training packages in the store and not online. I go back in the store Amy was walking in with her lunch and of course has to tell me she's on her lunch break but she'll put her food down and come out. Thanks Amy! Oh only to tell me there is nothing she can do. I'm now out $750 and if I knew I would have an issue I wouldn't have let them talk me into purchasing training prior to my puppy's surgery! I've been bringing my dog to this Petco since it opened last year and I had no complaints. I have a St Bernard so I'm used to paying a premium to have my dog groomed. Petco charges me $85 to brush him out, bathe him, clean his ears and do his nails. There is an option "shedless treatment" which I've gotten in the past, but does next to nothing to keep him from shedding another dog's worth of hair. To be fair, every groomer offers this, so I won't hold it against Petco. My dog came down with a case of "kennel cough" after being groomed at a dog salon a few years ago, but he's always come home happy and healthy from Petco. During this phone call, they informed her that they had to shave my chow because she was matted. Petco Oceanside for the second time has lied to me. A staff member at 9:00 am got my female puppy dog Cali to get groomed. Everything was fine. She told me that the dog didn't need to get a full haircut and I should let her hair grow long. I agreed to that and said just take a little off and some off her eyes. I came back around at noon and asked how my dog was. They said she was a little bad which surprised me since the last time, they said she was the best dog they had seen. They bring Cali out and she is fully cut. I ask politely that I thought you weren't going to cut a lot off. The lady then gives me a nasty look and says you told me to give her a full haircut. It was about $80 for the whole shampoo wash, nails trimmed etc. I made an appointment beforehand on the phone and the lady I spoke with on the phone was super helpful since I've never taken my dog to get groomed before and had a lot of questions. I'm not sure the exact name of the girl who groomed my dog but she was such a sweetheart and my dog loved her! Unfortunately the groomer called me the day before asking me to come at another time because it was "too late for her" because she leaves work at whatever time and "didn't know why the computer would even let me book it." The biggest issue was the attitude and tone of voice. As a potential first time client, that's definitely a turn off. Why would I want to bring my dog to get a grooming from someone who clearly is just focused on when she can go home from her shift? First off,this location is fairly new. I have been to Petco stores and there is always workers to be found around the store but notthis one. That is besides the point. I took my dog to this location to get his nails cut and buffed so they weren't rough (he isn't on cement often). I called first. They said they can do it. My dog is a 14 lb Rat Terrier. He is a high energy dog but if they are a qualified groomer they should know that some dogs are difficult to keep still. Not only was this lady unable to cut his nails, she asked us to hold him and sing to him as she tried to do it. She also kept telling us about another coworker that could have done the job. She told me next time bring "cheese and turkey" for my dog. I don't know where that came from. She was only able to do basically two paws and not even well. My dog did not bark once, but he was crying so much and he looked like he was turning purple. Also, he doesn't really shed and so much hair was everywhere. After I told her I'm not letting her finish, I'll come back when someone else who can do the job properly, she agreed but asked me to pay for the entire thing. I told her absolutely not. Ill come back. (Lisa also kept telling me I can do it at home my self. I told her that I don't want to, that's why I brought him to what I thought was "professionals"). When actually IN the store, I've waited at the register almost every time (no line) for minimum 5 mins before one of the "kid" cashiers runs over , saying, "sorry". My dog is very well behaved, has been through training and frankly needs no explanation on why we choose to use the prong collar.
