I recently took my dog to Just Pawfection in Lynbrook for a grooming session, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. I specifically requested that my dog's hair be trimmed, but not cut too short. The groomer informed me that my dog's hair was matted,it WASNT,which I later learned is a way for them to charge an extra fee...yes I did sign a disclaimer in case of nicks and asked him why,I've never had to before w/my current dog or the one before...told me not to worry it's just a way of protecting themselves...his appointment was at 10:30...I called at 3:30 to check on him..he wasn't ready....went at 4:30...STILL not ready...ask the owner what's taking so long...said it takes time to cut because he was so matted .... Im still confused about him saying he's matted because I take my dog to get groomed every month. I waited outside and finally around 515. He told me that he was ready. I had to stare at my dog for a while because he was unrecognizable AND a big red flag was they didn't even charge me the matte fee..when I finally got him on to examine him. I see that he was nicked when his eye and this is what probably took so long they probably had to stop the bleeding... my dog is a calm dog, but he seems unusually lethargic unlike the other times he's been to this groomer which leads me to believe they could have given him something.... Terrible job, so uneven and $125- would not accept my $5 coupon because they said it was for the Howard beach location which is not specified on the site but I was not going to argue for $5 off. Please beware- all the great reviews and photos you see on Yelp are based on OLD MANAGEMENT I tried hard not to judge this shop based on how the employees looked, but if you could picture who you wouldn't leave even your gerbil with that is the staff at Just Pawfection. I was a loyal customer about six years ago but have since found another shop mostly because of location and convenience- but recently thought of calling Just Pawfection because I wasn't able to get an appointment with my regular groomer. I was able to get a same day appointment which is quite uncommon with GOOD groomers but I took it. That should have been the first red flag, but I walked into an almost completely different shop, with no the most friendly faces but tried to be positive. When I returned I found my dog with an uneven cut, dirty ears, jagged nails and RAZOR BURNS on her belly. Armani & Louie (malti-poo & shitzu-poo) just finished their second grooming at Just Pawfection. I had waited to write the review to see if the service & quality was consistent .. It definitely is! I really enjoy the "cageless" atmosphere. They dogs are put in cubbies (they put my two together) so that they can move around a bit. We were called a few hours later to pick them up & saw one of the girls playing with them! They had cute handkerchiefs around their necks , smelled wonderful & were cut just the way we asked! By far the BEST dog groomer. My shihtese dog Miley loves going for a bath and of course can't forget the fancy hair clips. When I pick her up she smells and looks so good. It's a cageless place which is great for the dogs. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. read more

I love this place. I have been bringing my dogs here for years and they always do a wonderful job. I get exactly what I asked for in length and style, their prices are reasonable, the staff is always pleasant, skilled, they are always accurate on when my dogs will be ready and kind and I love Ed the owner, who is always accommodating. I have a skiddish dog to tubs/bathrooms - yet when we come here he feels like its play time, he goes in wagging his tail and saying his hello's to everyone and has even at times run straight for the back where he gets washed. This is a great place and the facts are this: 1) The place is clean, smells good and cageless (choosing to keep the pets in little cubicles instead). 2) They keep both my dogs together which I (and they) appreciate. 3) They do a great job, and take extra care when needed with oatmeal baths for sensitive skin, flea treatments, nice pet friendly perfumes etc. 4) They are always professional and are animal lovers themselves. They really do treat you like family 5) My dogs actually love coming here and that speaks volumes. Took my dog for grooming today and was so impressed with the job that they did at A Dog Ably Paw Fetc Grooming Salon. They did everything that I asked for and Lychee looked so adorable once he was done! The place was very clean and it was all cageless which is a definite plus for me. The staff was friendly and all the dogs had their own carols separated by dividers after they were groomed. They were also very flexible with my schedule and allowed me to come in earlier than my scheduled appointment to accommodate me and called me 15 mins before my dog was ready so that he wouldn't be waiting as long! The price was very reasonable as well, $50-55 for small dogs. Would definitely take my dog back again for his next haircut! read more

Great clean place with a staff that cares & a no cage atmosphere! Eli was a little nervous when I dropped him off for his bath, he is adopted and was rescued from a puppy mill so although he is a big ham, he is very timid at first. The owner (?? the nice man at the desk) let me escort him in the back and stay a few minutes until he was comfortable enough to leave my side and run around. They assured me he would do fine in their care once I left. It doesn't get better than that! And, while you're gone, they post a pic of your baby when they are all finished on Facebook. When I went to pick him up he smelled GREAT and the whites in his coat were the cleanest I've ever seen. His nails were perfectly rounded, too. On top of it, I asked for a price for Eli's size for a haircut. Both the man at the desk AND the groomer told me that his breed doesn't need to be cut because how short the hair is and that they need the undercoat. I was very impressed that they didn't take me for a sucker and try to take more of my money, and that they educated me as well. Will be back, for sure. read more

Don't go. Chopped my Yorkie/Pom/Shih Zsu puppy. He looks like a 80's mullet from front& all choppy short on back. (They left him a beard that looks like a mullet) My gut was to pull my dog out just based on this place's organization of appointments. Wish Iv went with my gut. When I asked about when I could pick him up, the owner & a girl behind him grooming a dog (when she wasn't texting with the hand not holding the buzzer!!) made me feel crazy for thinking an 11am appt. meant he'd be started roughly around 11am. I asked if I could reschedule or bring him back when they caught up so he wasn't just sitting there cooped up, since they couldn't clearly tell me when he'd be groomed. They laughed. The owner told me if I left he'd lose his place, it'd just take longer. They shouldn't be making appointment times if that's how they run it. They should be clear you drop dog off, get a call in few hours (my case 4 hrs). My dog isn't a car. I don't want to drop him off if he's just gong to be leashed in a cubby for hours. They wouldn't let me leave a toy for him to play with/chew on to pass time. I could see how their set up would be convenient if you get this done on a day you work & would have the dog crated anyway, but as I'm telling the guy at desk(owner?) I work 10-12 hr days, so my days off are precious time with my puppy, I can't help but notice the girl behind him tapping at her phone- buzzer in other hand turned on but luckily not on "Chewy" the poofy dog on table- since her reaction to the phone was so noticeable. I'm saying I'm uncomfortable having my dog wait for a long time, and the only groomer is more involved with her phone for about 2 minutes while a dog is on table, clearly she wasn't on a break. It took me a while to get the owner to notice, but he seemed frustrated, but actually, his response was, "I've told you about this before, enough with the phone...." so it's tolerated, even though after seeing my staring at it worriedly, he reacted. Not effective leadership on his part, if that's the owner or manager. Even though they weren't very professional in how they treated me & my concerns, the other girl there who took my puppy initially did make an effort to win him over & just because they lack people skills I was hoping they'd make up for it with a great cut on my puppy knowing I'm a new customer looking for a groomer to take my dog to regularly. Bottom line- the hair I wanted to keep long, they buzzed off. The hair I wanted short around his backside is too long. I brought pictures of dogs that looked similar to him but groomed how I DIDN'T, and showed pics of him that I did like the way his hair was so they had clear expectations. They claim if there's knots, they just cut them out so not to torture the dog. I'm sorry, but that's what I, with zero grooming knowledge could do. Part of being an animal groomer is to have skills to groom around the dog being normally fearful or anxious. I could understand if the dog was neglected & matted or intolerable. When I comb him, he doesn't fuss except for around his mouth. Either their lack of skill or impatience (also a skill for a dog groomer) caused them to buzz/chop my entire long haired puppy when I was clear I didn't want his head, feet,tail to be short.
