My first time at the Poochie Parlor was a pleasant experience. I got my dog a standard wash and cut. I have minimal direction and my dog came out clean cut and smelling fresh. The reception was friendly, the person who came out to greet my dog was equally as friendly and I loved that the patrons were familiar with the staff. It seems like PP services regulars often, which says a lot. Scheduling was easy, but I had to schedule four weeks out, based on availability. This establishment is cash or check only. I'm 2022 that seems a little challenging, but worth the trouble for my furry broke little best friend I am looking forward to trying them again. Respect the owner's request I specifically asked not to shave my dog and that's exactly what they did. She's a puppy a St. Bernard poodle mix. She had matting but I know for a fact that they could have left a couple of inches. Which I requested. Do not recommend this company! I hope they reimburse me. Finally today I found my new groomer at Poochie Parlor. Parking was very easy in back. was greeted very warmly on arrival. My Sophie was relaxed going in with groomer. very good vibe walking in. My husband who is very protective of his pup said same thing. it was a very easy experience. was called 3.5 hours later and she was beautiful! We just knew this was a good fit for Sophie. (Pet Lovers Beware): A complete, factual account of my experience with Poochie Parlor... I recently brought my Maltese to Poochie Parlor as it was one of the few pet grooming places I could find after having moved back to NY from the Bay Area (unfortunately - Yelp reviews aren't as predominant for Long Island as they are for the Bay). I dropped him off and mentioned that I'd like him to be given a "Puppy Cut" - a popular cut for a Maltese. I assumed any pet grooming place would know what "Puppy Cut" meant. Unfortunately, I returned two hours later to find that all they had done was just shave or cut off ALL of his hair (it had gone from a few inches long to at most half an inch). On top of that, my impression of the place upon return was that they were very unprofessional. They had no idea what leash I brought him in with (you'd think a pet grooming place would have a simple system to ensure those things would not get mixed up). In shock from his horrendous haircut, I realized I had forgotten to get a receipt from them (given their quality and lack of professionalism I was very inclined to have something on record of their work as who knows if anything might have happened to him while there). I called the next day kindly requesting that I had forgotten to get a receipt and the conversation played out as follows (verbatim): Them: "We don't give receipts" Me: "Why not?" Them: "When you go to get a haircut, do they give you a receipt?" In fact they do, Poochie Parlor, for just about every haircut I've gotten in my life. I cannot caution pet lovers against this place strongly enough. Clearly they do not exhibit the level of care or attention that we do upon our pets, nor do they have any semblance of professionalism or courtesy. read more

I'm really sorry to update this review but it needs to be done. My mom and I started taking our 2 Cavaliers to Poochie Parlor at least 5 years ago. We never had a problem until last month. When she took Maude and Alfie in, my mom asked them to expel their anal glands. She picked them up, was told it was done and paid for it. 3 weeks later, Maude gets up from her bed and there's blood. My mom takes her to the vet and $400 later, it turns out Maude's anal glands weren't expelled and it has abscessed on the right side. Alfie's glands had been done. My mom went to the store and Shari, the owner, wasn't there. Instead, she had to deal with an obnoxious girl who kept saying "If it was 3 weeks ago, we can't be held responsible." The point is that if it had been done 3 weeks ago, it wouldn't have abscessed. I left several messages for Shari, dealing with the bitchiest man on the phone and never received a response. I even told them that we weren't looking for them to pay the vet bill, I just wanted to speak to Shari as a longtime customer and tell her what happened. I think Shari is a talented groomer but I think the people she's entrusted to run her store when she's not there are rude and incompetent. read more

I usually don't post reviews on Yelp, but I'm so furious with the grooming job done by Poochie Parlor that I feel compelled to write a review. My husband brought our Maltipoo in at 10am yesterday morning to be groomed. He specified that we didn't want the dog's hair too short. The woman who took him in said they would call us when he was ready. At 1:45 we still hadn't gotten a call ( that was almost 4 hours after he was dropped off!) so I called. They told me they were running behind because they had a giant size dog in there that had taken a long time to groom! Really! My dog should sit there for almost 4 hours because you probably overbooked your appointments. I expressed my annoyance and they said my dog would be ready in approximately 45 minutes. That would mean that the poor dog was there for almost 5 hours! When my husband went to pick him up, they had cut my dog's hair so short, it's practically down to the skin and his face hair is also so short he looks like a rat. He was adorable when we brought him in and now he looks terrible! My husband asked why they cut him so short when they were told not to do that. They said he must have been knotted. He absolutely was not knotted. I brush him several times a week, so I know that's not true. I am so furious with the job they did. They just cut him any way they wanted after making him wait for 4 hours. Now we have to wait months for his hair to grow back and to look normal again. They have lost a customer. I will never go back there again. There have got to be better places than this! read more

I took my bansenji, which is a short hair breed, here to get washed and dried. I pick him up to find a huge chunk of his hair missing and a scratch. I demanded explanations and no one could tell me anything. They acted like they didn't even care I was upset. How can you not know what happened? I brought my two dogs in to be groomed. My dogs bark a lot and get scared very easily. The minute they realize where we are going, their tails wag rapidly. They are greeted with warmth and familiarity by the groomers. They are always smelling delicious when I pick them up and look more adorable then before. Eight out of nine are filtered because they're written at similar times? The one left is a 1 star? It's a pay off folks! No advertising and you still pay but not with $$$'s ... There is an uprising currently on FB, Twitter and just Google the problems business owners are having with Yelp and there deplorable tactics. . It's inconcievable that they took my 5 star rating down along with the others and left a one star up. STAY AWAY FROM POOCHIE PARLOR!!!!! I should have listened to the last reviewer, but I thought that I would just give them direct instructions and they would follow. (Yeah right). I took my shih tzu over there (first time) because I had been looking around for a groomer. My shih tzu has long hair (we keep it long for the winter) and we just wanted a trim and for them to clean up her face and buttocks. I told the lady that when I got there and she said that the dog was matted (this is a dog that gets groomed every 4 weeks and gets a bath once a week). I told her no her hair is just long that she was not matted. I picked her up a few hours later to my surprise she was butchered. I decided I would not go off on them or make a scene. I took my dog home and she was traumatized. They cut her butt area too low and she was having problems walking around. Her hair was cut so low you could see her skin. I returned the next day to let them know that I was just advising them to listen to their customers and the groomer and the lady at the front desk both argued with me that I did not brush my dog and that she was matted and they had to shave her that short. They were very unprofessional and very rude and just disrespectful and I would never go back there! read more

I went to Poochie Parlor because my vet was told by her clients they were good. I had Bischon, Maltese and a Shih Tzu all really well groomed but my regular groomer was hospitalized so they were about a week overdue as well as finishing with ear infection meds so they really needed to be groomed. I called and was told that I can bring them right over. When I walked in my dogs were taken away from me as I was trying to tell them how I like and wanted them cut. They employee was completely uninterested in my opinion and made me feel as though my opinion was unimportant and useless as she was the"expert". I kept calling saying do NOT shave them. They were like "ok". I left and some hours later I went to pick up my dogs...... OMG they looked horrible! Poochie Parlor did what they wanted and completely ignored my instructions and shaved the dogs to their skin!!! Also the were not separated from giant breeds and my poor bischon was being molested by a giant poodle. I asked what did they do and their reply was"what's wrong"? I paid them and said give my dogs and ran out of there. How anybody can take and leave their beloved pets there is completely beyond me.
