    Planet Pooch

I am writing this with an extremely heavy heart and with complete honesty. We brought our dog,…read morePenny, to Planet Pooch twice after her initial trial, and on her second full day of daycare (12/29/25), she was aggressively attacked. Penny is what we jokingly refer to as a "spectator dog." She does not actively play; she prefers to roam, observe, and cuddle with the staff. With that said, her being attacked (photos attached) came as a huge surprise to us. We understand that dogs will be dogs and that they explore and play using their mouths. We are also fully aware that in a daycare environment, minor scratches can happen during play. What we are most upset about is that Planet Pooch either did not see our dog get attacked, which is inexcusable since staff should be supervising the dogs at all times to prevent situations like this, or they did see her get bitten and chose not to take appropriate action. We frequently checked in on Penny while she was at daycare and were repeatedly told that she was fine and that there was nothing to worry about. However, after picking her up at the end of the day and petting her at home, we discovered a large, bloody gash on her neck. The bite was deep enough that the veterinarian stated a separate incision had to be made to open the tissue pocket created by the bite in order to prevent infection and possible abscesses. We are thankful we found the injury when we did, because we cannot fathom the pain and serious consequences this could have led to if left untreated. While Planet Pooch did agree to cover our dog's initial medical expenses (there are additional follow-up visits we will need and pay for), this does not excuse their lack of supervision or their failure to communicate with us so that we could have taken Penny to the emergency vet immediately instead of finding out hours later. We were told that new procedures would be put in place to prevent this from happening again. I sincerely hope that any dog parent who continues to bring their dog to Planet Pooch holds them accountable to ensure these promises are fulfilled, because we will never be bringing our dog back. I cannot recommend this facility to any dog owner. If you do choose to move forward, I strongly suggest being vigilant and thoroughly checking your pet before and after drop-off. I hope Planet Pooch is proactive and treats this as a serious learning experience for the staff and owner. Unfortunately, this came at my dog's expense. I truly hope Penny recovers without any lasting aggression, fear, or trauma caused by this carelessness.

Jo- Mar boarding is exceptional. This was the first time I boarded my almost 15 year old Chihuahua…read moreMacie Karrington. I was very nervous to board her ,but the staff made me feel comfortable and answered the multitude of questions I had. I only boarded her overnight due to having a Wedding on the East end of the island. I dropped her off in the morning then went to the wedding. The next day after the wedding I picked her up and when the staff brought her out to me she trotted out and had a big smile on her face. I was so happy she did so well. I will use Jo-Mar boarding again when I need because I know my Macie will be safe and loved. Thank you

This place is HORRIBLE!!!!!! If you want your dog to almost…read moreDIE---this is the place to go. We dropped off our Frenchie to get grommed. We told them that he needs to be taken care of right away. They assured us that they know that Frenchies have difficulty breathing and would call us as soon as they were done. A call never came. We went to pick him up and they said that he was just about done. Our dog came out GASPING FOR AIR and STRUGGLING TO BREATHE. We questioned his condition and they said that "he was fine a minute ago". Our dog layed on the floor and proceed to throw up and continued struggling to breath. They had the name and address of an animal hospital near by, ready to give us. They were prepared for this. We rushed him to the hospitall where he continued to throw up. We arrived at the hospital and they told us that his lips were purple and he would have died if he arrived a few minutes later. They had to extubate him and gave him a series of medications as well as as a cooling jacket and ice baths to bring his temperature down. It was 103.8. We came to learn that the owner has now retired and moved to Florida and left her unqualified staff in charge. They put my dog in a cage and put a HOT fan directly blowing on him. He could not BREATHE and had an anxiety attach. We have no idea how long he was in this cage or how long the fan was blowing, as no on would give us answers. ANIMAL ABUSE!!!! This place needs to closed DOWN!!!!!!!!!

    Assisi Veterinary Hospital - Peaches

My husband dropped her off at 8:30AM, I get a text saying she is recovering around 2PM. 15 mins later my husband calls me frantically saying they are doing CPR on Peaches. I'm confused now since I recieved a text saying shes recovering. I call the vet and the receptionist also says they are doing CPR. I ask to speak to the vet, and the vet asks if I would like her to continue CPR. She informed me that have been doing CPR for 25 mins, at this point I realize Peaches is dead and I tell them to stop CPR. I asked why this happened, the vet responds with because shes a brachycephalic dog. My husband works only two blocks from me so we both leave work and head to the vet together. I'm crying my eyes out because Peaches was my first child, my husband is distraught but has to keep it together since we are driving. Peaches had no other health issues besides constipation, she should not have died. We get to the vet, the receptionist says sorry for your loss and points us to a room where they had Peaches body. The vet does not come to us at any point to say she is sorry or to go over the events as to what lead to Peaches untimely death. I shouldn't have lost my little girl. She went in for a simple procedure. This practice has no compassion and its all a money making business. See the attached photos to this review, the text message saying she is recovering (clearly she never recovered so it was misleading), the bill (for the enema which I have no idea if they did and the charge for CPR), and a picture of Peaches. I purchased her from a reputable breeder specifically so that she would not have any breathing issues. So in short, if you plan to take your pet there for a procedure that requires anesthesia, think again. You may leave with a dead body instead.

Dr. Lopez was the kind, compassionate human being who soothed my soul in making this decision and gave my beloved 17+ yr old little doggie a gentle dignified end to his distress. Dr. Lopez explained the x-rays & bloodwork that could be done (at a substantial cost) but was gentle in letting us know that for a dog of this age & degree of heart issues this won't be a real fix. In fact, the stress of it all could prove too much on him. A lesser man would have put potential dollars compassion for animals & pushed a pet owner desperate to take her "baby" home towards that unnecessary route. I am so thankful a friend recommended Assisi to me last year when my little guy was ill. She was also the owner of 2 elderly dogs & couldn't speak highly enough about their care at Assisi. Last year we saw a female Dr., whose name escapes me & we were pleased with her thoroughness & care. Today though was the true test in kindness & professionalism. We were even given a beautiful remembrance of our sweet little boy in the form of a plaster imprint of his paws w a beautiful poem & a vial containing a bit of his fur. I have used other vets & this is beyond a doubt the best I have experienced. Do yourself & your pet a favor & visit Dr. Lopez at Assisi.
