I asked every question under the sun at my dog's evaluation, and every answer was the one I was looking for. Additionally, my dog is not an 'easy' dog, he can be standoffish with strangers, but every staff member knew how to approach him without my having to comment, and he settled in really well. I appreciate especially their honesty when I asked if Arlo played with any other dogs - instead of lying to me and saying "of course!" without thinking, they explained to me that he needs to get used to a new environment and that "the play will come." That answer was stellar, and I feel comfortable knowing that staff will give me uncomfortable truths when they are needed rather than sugar coating their answers for a sale. I know my dog well, and their description of his behavior today was on point, I know for a fact that staff was watching him carefully and that makes me happy. I am glad to have a place to bring him now that I no longer work in the industry, it's a huge weight off of my shoulders. As to the reviews stating that the place smells - I have twice walked in during what seemed like rush hour and smelled nothing other than typical 'dog' smell, so I'm not sure what all that is about.

Stay away from here. "Happy paws" butchered my dog. My poor puppy, he was cut in multiple areas,…read morethey literally cut and he has HUGE scabs on the tips of his ears, Severe irritation from cleaning ears he has scabs and so much irritation he didn't sleep for 3 nights tossing his head back and forth from itching, ultimately I had to put ointment on him and he had to wear a cone!! His privates were shaved so much they were red and blistering. He was so tramatized his tail was between his legs for days! He hid under my bed for days and barely touched his food. He didn't want anyone near him. I don't know what happened there, but it wasn't good. They owner, Jessica, took no accountability and blamed the puppy for their wrongdoings. He had 3 other groomings that were beautiful. This was a nightmare. Stay away!!!

We tried another daycare and it was WAY too much for him. Too many dogs, not enough people (He's more of a people dog), and he came home filthy. He was seriously traumatized from it. I met with Jessica since her daycare is smaller and has less dogs. From the beginning she has been extremely honest and has shown her understanding and care about dogs. Dogs are her LIFE and it shows. She worked with me and my dog to start and make sure it was a good fit for the dog. The dogs ALWAYS come first. She explained his day and behavior and what I can do to work with him. She was upfront with that she does not do formal training with the dogs, but she's given me soooo much guidance and her patience has made an immense difference in my dog! He RUNS in when he goes! He wags his tail so hard his body bends in half! I ask him if he wants to see Jessica and he RUNS to leave the house! There is someone who is always with the dogs. They are brought out to potty frequently and the place is amazingly clean, inviting, warm and homey feeling. On these hot days it's nice to know the place has the AC blasting for the pups. Jessica has been such a positive influence with my dog and me as an owner. I cannot recommend this place enough!

We've used other boarding facilities out of state, but this was the first time leaving our girls in NY. We needed somewhere we could have peace of mind, and they exceeded our expectations! The Farmingdale location is gorgeous. It's spacious, beautifully laid out, and so clean that you can't detect a dog smell. In order to make a reservation though, they did have to schedule a two-hour temperament evaluation prior to their stay. Once that was completed, we were able to continue on with finalizing our reservation. They offered two suite options, the Comfort and Imperial. Jacquelyn was a pleasure to work with. She was kindhearted, friendly, and really supportive in organizing their stay. She was the primary staff member who assisted us with check-ups, updates, occasional pictures, and check-out. Initially, our dogs may have been reserved, but afterwards, they were definitely excited to be there. My husband & I could tell they had a great time. Not only were they happy but the exit bath pampered them even further. Yeah, they were spoiled and will continue to be spoiled! We plan on bringing them here for our future vacation needs. Thank you so much for taking care of our girls!

The staff loves every dog as their own and it shows. I would chose Barkgata over and over again and I recommend them to everyone I know.

Our original…read moreperspective boarder cancelled a week before our vacation, so we were lucky Hounds Town had room for our pet. We liked how they post pictures and short videos of the dogs each day on their private Facebook page. That helped ease our minds about the well-being of our pet. The daily pricing, $65 per night, is quite reasonable. We felt that after boarding for 8 days, the $30 exit bath should have been complimentary, considering she came out with dirt around her eyes and gray dust and a foreign clipped hair on her still damp underside. Yuck, but easy to rectify. Additionally, when we picked her up, we didn't receive any feedback as to how she did during her stay. Then again, we did not ask because we were just anxious to be reunited with our dog. BUT....when the next family came in to retrieve their little pup, the person checking us out raved how THAT dog was one of her favorites and she gave him extra attention during feeding time. HELLO??? We are standing right there!!! What about our puppy? Was she left to feed on her own? Did she even eat all her food at meal times? She definitely lost weight during her stay. Other than those few hiccups, we were happy with our dog's stay at Hounds Town of Smithtown.
