I've been using Beach Buds Doggy Daycare consistently for about 4 months now. My girl has…read moreattachment issues but is typically happier with other dogs. Coming in here, she definitely wasn't the easiest one to work with....and still isn't. She won't typically go potty inside because she's afraid of getting in trouble but is also picky about where she goes potty outside. She also loves to sit in the window and watch for when I come to get her, but of course then she doesn't gain much from the daycare experience. My dog is just plain NEEDY. In the beginning, she didn't seem to engage too much with the other dogs, maybe only briefly. But now that she's had about 15 days total there, she's got her friends. From my point of view, it took her 10 days of going before she learned to love it, she's always a hard sell when it doesn't involve mommy. Now she runs to the door to go inside, no second thoughts about going in. I know she clearly really loves the owner, Derek, which isn't a very easy thing for her to do. Most of the other workers are caring and friendly, I've seen some that pull a little too much on her collar, but it's a bit more rare. I love the options of 7-7, so if I have longer work days I won't feel guilty if she is there maybe 10 hours or more. Drop off and pick up are pretty easy, parking can be difficult in the evening of course. While, yes, they do not have a large space nor a large yard, I know my girl gets a lot from doggy day care. She comes home absolutely pooped from her day, she's better about going potty at the daycare (sometimes she still holds it), and she continues to have positive interactions with dogs of all sizes. I think it's important that small and large dogs spend time together so they can learn the dynamics of greeting, playing, or just being present together under supervised care. The website for booking is easy to use and you get an email reminder on the day you have a reservation. Aside from the cameras where you can stare at your dog for all too long, you can also follow their Instagram or facebook for some sweet shots of your pups while you're at work. Maybe one day they could end up with a larger location, but overall, I think there's a lot for a pup to gain here...as well as the owner. Nothing like having a free evening not having to walk your pup!

I tell our trainers Katie and Nicole all of the time that they are life savers. We brought our puppy here at 1 years old - a small wild, energetic Jack Russell who knew every time I was on a video meeting to bark his head off and embarrass me EVERY TIME! Walks were out of the question since he would pull on the leash to the point he would choke himself... sitting on the deck was a nightmare in our own backyard because he would bark at the wind (yes, the wind), the leaves moving, the birds and obviously the neighbors. We did a 3 week Board & Train where I was super hesitant of dropping him off (because no one wants to leave their baby anywhere), but they were so good with sending video progress and pictures and including my husband and I in the process. Stormie is a rescue who we adopted in 2019 and underwent 2 surgeries in 2021 due to bilateral CCL surgery. She was cooped up for an extended amount of time during recovery. We were unable to take her outside without her reacting to other dogs and sometimes even people. Stormie even gave us difficulty when we wanted to go for a short walk. It was so frustrating and difficult taking her out in public that we needed help. We have heard of Maximum K9 from many of our friends and even the great reviews I've seen on dog groups and online. I called to inquire about the types of training (group vs. individual) and it was clear that we needed to take private lessons. We signed up for a package of 6 lessons with Sherry that were one hour long for 6 consecutive weeks. Our first day, Sherry got to know about Stormie's behaviors - positive and negative, what we were having difficulty with and what our goals were. Sherry worked with us each week when training Stormie (and me) on how to modify or progress a skill. We learned how to heel, which we never were taught from another trainer elsewhere, and the importance of heel. We were given homework on what to practice from the training sessions to continue our work outside of the facility. Sherry helped Stormie become less dog reactive in a safe manner at Maximum K9. Stormie was slowly exposed to the board and train dogs in the facility that had various levels of size and temperament. Each week, Stormie learned how to follow her commands and not react to different dogs. With Sherry's consistent training, Stormie was able to heel with me in a circle with other dogs and sit next to them without any reaction at all. I cannot find the words to thank Sherry for helping Stormie and myself. I came into Maximum K9 with Stormie trying to pull my arm off and reacting to dogs in the lobby to now leaving with my arm back intact and her in a nice heel. After seeing him a few times the Vet recommended a strong treatment of prozac to help alleviate his symptoms. However, before going the chemical route I wanted to try solving his symptoms in a more holistic manner. After a few renowned trainers told me he was a lost cause, trainers who probably build their reputation based on the easiest of cases, Melanie Bennet entered the picture. We had a consultation and Melanie was compassionate with my dog and helped me understand his mindset as well as a training regimen that could help him improve. She was very realistic in managing my expectations and helped me understand what was achievable in the training and what would be a stretch. I enrolled my dog in a 4-week training bootcamp where Melanie focused on teaching my dog relaxation techniques. Some things I observed after my first visit is that he would lay down a lot, I thought he was tired or scared but then learned Melanie trained him to do that whenever he was overly aroused. Similarly he would stop moving his tail to calm himself down. Throughout successive visits I observed how my dog was more composed and relaxed. He was also paying more attention to me so he could follow my lead. After the first three weeks he had been able to learn to calm himself down enough to reinforce the basics and learn a few cute tricks. He learned how to walk on a gentle leader and how to spin and touch a cone on command. When he came back home people could not believe what they were seeing. I no longer had to hide my dog in my bedroom whenever I had visitors in an attempt to shield them from my dog's anxiety. As long as the visitors knew the ground rules to avoid arousing my dog too much, we had a perfect interaction, something that would have been impossible before. Furthermore, the training did not end there. Melanie provided extensive documentation on what I could do to reinforce and continue his training, which was very useful for me as I did not know how to avoid undoing all of Melanie's fantastic work. Overall, I highly recommend Melanie to any person who wants to have their dog properly trained, especially is that dog needs special attention.
