I generally don't recommend this Petco, but not for the reasons you think! All employees are lovely and beyond helpful and patient. The store is very clean and organized compared to a lot that I've been to and I find that to be very welcoming! However, the new "boss" or general manager, as most would call them, seems very rude. There has been NUMEROUS account in which she has accused customers of stealing (they never were) and there was also a very sick man (who should NOT have been working) behind the counter working the register who she yelled at across the store for being late in front of so many customers. They need to, at a minimum, keep the store clean, pick up the refuse off the floor, organize it just to at least a nominal level, and train their employees. What a sad waste of a premiere location in a prime retail shopping center. This issue is owed to mismanagement, either or both local or hq. Had a previous horrible experience at this particular location & vowed never to go back. However, my puppy LOVES the treats from their treat bar that they sell by the pound. We recently ran out & so we went for a quick shopping trip. Let my puppy sniff & shop around. He loves to shop! LOL This shopping experience was much better. The gentleman working the register was very cheerful & friendly, He doted on my puppy & was simply lovely to him. Called my puppy by name & gave him a free treat. I prefer to do my pet store shopping at all-natural stores or online, but sometimes you just can't avoid hitting up a Petco or Petsmart, and there's nothing inherently wrong with them. This location's selection of small animals is very, well, small. When I went a few days ago I think they had one guinea pig, one hamster, and two ferrets. Every other cage was empty. There are usually some cats up for adoption, and they always break your heart a little. The reptile selection seems a bit better (I rarely have seen empty cages). They have a lot of options for dog and cat food, as well as collars and leashes. Tons of dog toys. They have some freshwater fish and a very small selection of saltwater (although again, when I visited most recently there were about 6 empty saltwater tanks). They also have a few birds. The best thing about Petco is that they offer free puppy playtime classes! These are invaluable for socializing your puppy. They require updated shots, and then your dog can attend when they are 12 weeks to 6 months old. I am unsure of the days they offer it as my Great Dane is grown up now, but when we used to go I think they had it 4 or 5 days a week (30 minutes each). The instructor was awesome! I haven't seen him around, so I'm afraid he doesn't work there any longer, and that's really too bad. Hopefully the new instructor loves pups as much as he did! Customer service is fine. No one is particularly friendly or helpful, and you're usually guaranteed a wait in the fish area, but I haven't had a particularly bad experience either. Other than the puppy playtime offering they are a very average pet store, but that really is worth checking out if you have a puppy. read more

This is a great pet store for all your critter's needs. It's been newly remodeled, and it looks greatly improved. There's a new veterinarian office there that we haven't utilized yet. The pet training & groomers have moved further in to the store. With the big windows, you can watch your pet get groomed. :) This day I came for gerbil food and treats, and it was on sale with my pals number. Sweet! Fast line, friendly staff. I've actually started buying dog food online now, and it's really hard to be the better prices and the fact that they'll lug it right to my door. I still pop in here every so often, and I guess I would be compelled to shop even more in the store, but sometimes it just feels like the same old stuff. You might call it dependable, but when you've got a delivery man who is hulking 40 pounds of brown chunks right to me, I guess there's a little less charm reason to come in. It's good to know that they're there. And in a pinch, or on a lark, it's nice to have the convenience of this location. read more

Here I did just a routine check up with tick and heart worm shots and even after I said I opted for the cheaper option it still came out to $360! I was so happy with the experience I had with the groomers at this location. Called and got an appointment the day of so I could get my maltchi groomed before he got fixed the next morning. I was a little late but they were still happy to take him which I really appreciated. They had no problem when it took me a couple hours to pick him up after I got off work as well. Picked him up he looked spectacular and they kept his little foe-hawk as I instructed. He also got the blueberry facial and smelled amazing! Ordered some prescription food online for my cat that was supposedly in stock at this store, it was not, but they let me know they were shipping it to the store because of the mistake and I could pick it up there. I called when I got there and the lady said "we don't do that." After some back and forth she finally found it and brought it out, but not without lecturing me about using my own address instead of the stores. Took my two dogs in to be groomed. I got a phone call about 3.5 hours later saying one dog did good, but the other one 'was not having it' and they told me he was a little choppy where they tried to groom him. The first dog did well, they said. She looked clean and somewhat groomed, though they didn't take hardly any fur off of her tummy area. The other dog, my almost 3 year old golden, looked about the same as when I took him in and dropped him off. They did his behind area (super choppy and unclean looking cut) and gave him a bath and brush. They then said they'd give me a 'discount' and only charge me $67 for him, since he wasn't going to let them groom him and because he was choppy near his behind. He is a little hyperactive and young, but never aggressive. He is very treat motivated and would do anything and sit anywhere for a treat. He is very smart. I told them this and they said, "we can't give them treats". I guess I kind of understand that they didn't have the ability to work with him based on their lack of knowledge when it comes to working with dogs. But to try and charge me $67 for a bath and brush? NOPE. My dogs were ready to go home, so I took them both home. My dog drank SO much water when we got home. It was evident he hadn't had anything to drink while he was there. I went back and talked to the manager and she gave me a good discount. Even if my one dog would have sat complacently like my other one, there is NO WAY I would take them back here. Very rude, inexperienced and untrained associates. Not to mention they didn't do much for the $67 they charged, other than a choppy lop on the behind. read more

This is based on an experience I had a few weeks ago. I brought my staffordshire terrier in to be groomed. She's the sweetest dog, and incredibly friendly but gets nervous with loud noises and when people touch her feet. I did tell the groomer this and asked that they let me know how it went. I don't know what happened but I received a voicemail saying my dog was "very aggressive" and when I tried to ask questions the kid at the front desk just said they couldn't finish her nail trim because she didn't want her feet touched. I believe they had a preconceived image of my pup because she is a mini pity and used language that was quite offensive. The customer service here sucks and my dog also had a little mark on her neck when I picked her up. Because of the experience I had, I now take my dog to Dog Zone in Sandy where they are much more welcoming and very sweet. I'll never take my pup in to be groomed here. read more

I scheduled a grooming appointment for my pup. When I dropped him off I was waiting in the lobby because no one working there explained it would take 4-5 hrs until after I had been waiting in the lobby for an hr & a half. (Which idk why it would take that long if you have a scheduled appointment.) On this day they were closing at 6 & explained they'd give me a call when he was ready to be picked up. It reached 5:40 before I decided to just go back & see if he was ready because no one called. When I get there they said "sorry we forgot to call you, he's been done for a couple of hours." (He was there a total of 5 1/2 hrs.) Needles to say I will never go back there again. read more

Maria in grooming is the most passionate person I ever had for my brother and sister Shiba Inu's. They loved Maria. As my boy got older he developed separation anxiety so Maria at my request put them in the same cage. We went to Maria I believe 9 years or so. One day I dropped them off and was crying and Maria and a groomer with short hair calmed me down until I could drive. If you want your fur babies treated like children, schedule with her or I am sorry for not knowing your name but she has real short hair like mine. The groomers at Petco in Union Park are incredible. My 70 pound airedale is a challenge but they always greet me with enthusiasm and caring. They even say what a sweetheart he is, even if I am not sure they feel that way after dealing with his strength and determination. His grooming is always excellent and he looks so good when he is finished. I would highly recommend them! read more

WILL NEVER COME BACK!!!! The grooming staff was rude and harsh. My puppy needed a nail trimming. When they got Him back on the table and clipped him in they started to clip his nails. I let them know when I dropped him off he has anxiety, and doesn't like his nails done! I was watching them clip his nails the entire time, he doesn't like it but what dog does! I Watched every second of it. And when they brought him out they said he's not allowed back because he tired to bite. And Dude I saw the whole thing he did not try to bite at ALL. The lady also said that it's mostly my fault that he acted like that because I didn't put him in training already and I should put him in hard training. DUDE MY DOG IS 3 POUNDS & IS STILL A PUPPY & HAS ANXIETY!!! I have been a regular customer at this Petco ever since they remodeled to add a natural and organic dog food section, as they now carry our brand. With that comes a great selection of quality treats made from 'human grade' food, which we appreciate as well. My husband even tasted a treat made from real apples because it smelled so good, and said it wasn't half bad. He's a little quirky though. The layout is nice and the updates add a lot to the feeling of the store. It was one of the older ones and starting to show it, but it is much better now. It's fun to see other people with their puppies, as you are allowed to bring leashed pets in with you, and they often have pet adoptions going on. There doesn't seem to be specific info on their website about when they are held but I'm sure a phone call would answer that question. We like to stop by every time we see the adoption truck in the parking lot, just for fun. With the rewards card perks, we end up getting a new coupon in the mail right about the time we are running out of food each time, so it works out well! read more

Two out of two miniature dachshunds say "Arf, arf, grr, woof, grr-arf!" Their human thinks this store alright. The groomers are really sweet and take good care of our dogs when we take them in for "mani-pedis" and ear cleanings. They have a good selection of squeeky toys that our dogs love to disembowel. We don't buy food from here, though, because they only have small bags of the Royal Canin dachshund formula. We have found it to be much more economical to purchase larger bags online. They have a pretty sizable selection of leashes and doggy clothing, if you're into that sort of thing. They also have a good selection of treats and bones that any dog is sure to love. After getting my puppy this week, I've made numerous trips to this store. The store has everything you need if you are in hurry to get something, but all the retail stores tend to get expensive quick. Get the pals rewards card and save as much as you can! Also, if you have time, make sure to check online at the petco website to compare prices to the ones at the store. They didn't match up for me (sale price on the website, but not the store) several times, so I showed the website price to the cashiers and they price-matched so I was able to get the sale price. read more

Grooming was terrible!!! Overpriced & my dog ended up with an eye infection!!! They charged me for a tooth brushing and an anal gland expression but did neither!!! 64 bucks for a shave on my tiny 3 lb yorkie. Not even a yorkie cut. Just shaved him down to nothing, with a small cut on his ear and the very next day he had a eye infection!!! The vet says he would bet that it was something he got from this petco grooming facility. For one they sell live reptiles to minors. As well as the Irene chick will cuss you out if you call for help. We were told of anything happened we had 14 days to bring them back. Bless their heart our cat got to one of them and he dropped her tail. She's very sweet and gentle and still lively and we never intended to give her back because she is such a sweet girl but we noticed her foot was hurt and we wanted to give her back to give her a fighting chance because she's so sweet and vibrant. They told us there was absolutely nothing they could do cause it was our fault and told us to fuck off when we had our family member call later and get to the bottom of it. Overall rude rude people but they go through a special vendor for leopard geckos and they are very sweet little reptiles if you want a sweet baby definitely recommend Leo's read more

This was my dog's first time ever getting groomed. The groomer was very friendy and took great care of my pup. He HATED the dremel but she clipped his nails pretty well. He is a very short haired dog and the treatment was supposed to include a 15 minute brush out but yet, she said he would be done in 15. Hmm. So there was no dremel for his nails, and maybe a 15 second brush out. They also didn't clean his ears at all, which was supposed to be included. They did do a really good job on his teeth and mouth though! Overall, I don't think I will be going back for grooming. read more

I was super excited that they could get my doodle in for a fast 15 min clean up on his head and feet they lady seemed pretty bothered that my appointment was at 6pm and even said (that's a really late appointment). I was super nervous doing it in the first place and once she said that I felt like she was in a hurry to get out of there. I asked the lady to please leave his chin alone and just to trim the top of his hair down just a little until I can get him in for a full groom. She ended up cutting the top so uneven he looks like he has a crooked unibrow and she cut his chin even tho I asked not too... his feet looked like he had hooves so they were cut down way more than his hair on his actual legs. The lady seemed to be pretty frustrated with my puppy at times too which made it an overall disappointing experience. I know my dog can be difficult at times but it's because he gets anxiety and that was his first cut ever. read more

IF I COULD GIVE 0 STARS I WOULD!!! came here to get my cat groomed and after speaking with multiple people about how my cat had never been groomed before and didn't like when I tried grooming her myself. They assured me that they would be able to help. So I took time off of work because they only had early afternoon appointments, but when I took her in after talking to the girl for 5 minutes she said my cat was too "high strung" and they only groom "chill" cats and referred me to another place! Took my elderly cocker spaniel to get one length shave and left in tears. I let them know that he was having some skin issues and he was seeing the in store vet about it. I was aware there would probably be some bald patches and that was ok and I was expecting it. First, they tried charging me $15 more than what it said online. I get it is an estimate online, but that is quite a price difference for a dog shave. The girls working there, were incredibly rude and tried to make excuses for the price difference. When they brought him out, I was horrified. The shave was so close to the skin, it made him bleed in multiple areas and his skin was bright red and irritated. I talked to the store manager and she begrudgingly gave me a refund. Never even saying sorry or apologizing for what they did to my dog. Horrible grooming. Beyond horrible customer service from the grooming portion and the overall store manager. Rude and nasty experience. I feel very sad for my dog and his poor skin. Another thing is- It takes a long time to find someone to help. It doesn't seem to really make much of a difference as to what time of day I come in. Recent remodel really improved the process. As always, Tiffany (groomer) gets an 11 on a scale of 1-10! Had one problem: got switched to a different groomer even though I had a Request. "System not supposed to let that happen." Someone had made an appointment for a cat and THEN realized that my requested groomer was the only one there who could do the cat. Why they didn't just call the "cat person" back, I don't know. I didn't find out until I got there. I had to re-schedule but the manager was wonderful, offering me free upgrades for next visit. I've been bringing our pup to petco for grooms since last summer. Never had an issue and he always was happy to get there and happy when I picked him up. Last week I brought him in for a groom and he did not want to go with the guy who was grooming him (same guy who did his sani and face a few months before and did a terrible job but blamed it on my dog being to wiggly. No one else ever had an issue with that but he's a hyper dog so I didn't think twice about it.) he's never NOT wanted to love on someone so I thought that very odd. I picked him up 4 hours later and not only did the groomer completely take off all his hair which is not what we discussed (he's a doodle), charlie was extremely sad and upset. He didn't eat for 3 days after, wouldn't even eat a piece of bacon, his fave. I had to beg him to drink water. He wouldn't play and was extremely depressed. I thought maybe he was sick but bowel movements were normal and after speaking with the vet and coming up with nothing medical I attributed his behavior to a terrible experience at the groomers. We will not be back. The fact that anyone could treat such a kind and loving dog poorly is ridiculous. read more

Wow. If I could give this store 0 stars I would. They have no sense of customer service at all. I work in customer service, and I have the decency to walk around to my customers, and at-least ask how the customer is doing or a simple hello. The employees were so rude, specifically two. Was potentially looking to adopt a hamster at this location, as I have a set up and everything. Asked for help and the first guy seemed annoyed but said he would be there soon. So I stood next to the hamster enclosures and waited. It should not be expected that someone choose their hamster based on not even seeing it. There was a hamster I wanted to see, but it was in its little hut. The employee, older lady, long brown hair, and skinnier, comes up to me, and I kid you not, said "What do you want!?" In the rudest tone ever. I am a customer, not a family member. I kept my cool and asked to see the enclosure and she just waved her hands and rolled her eyes, "you know your not even gonna be able to take it out right? Like you won't even be able to touch it". Exactly what she said in an annoyed tone. I understand with everything going on for Covid-19, but holy shit, I literally just wanted to see the actual hamster itself, not touch it, not play with it, just look, because I could have adopted it. "Do you really wanna "take a look" right now then?", and after she said that I said not anymore and left that fucking store. If she hates her job so much fucking quit. Is that how pet co treats all their customers? With no respect and no decency at all? It's outrageous. The other Pet co on redwood is so much better. Don't waste your time here because they don't give a damn about you, and will be terribly annoyed when they have to actually "help" a customer. Pet Co, you seriously need to work on your employees so much better at this location, at least teach them how to treat people. read more

I took my elderly dog here to get a simple one length shave on her whole body. I informed staff that she had skin tags on her body so they should be careful when shaving. They told me it would be 3-4 hours, and after 5 hours I called them to see if she was ready. When I finally picked her up, she had been knicked 3 times to the point of bleeding and had several completely bald spots. I feel like I could have cut my dogs hair at home for the service and price.
