The terrible customer service in the grooming department makes me uncomfortable leaving my dog alone with them. I called to make an appointment, spoke with two people, and both of these people were rude and had very bad attitudes. To the first lady I spoke with I said "I would like to bring my dog in this weekend for a cut and bath". Her response: "you really think you can just bring him in without an appointment". That's the whole reason I'm calling! So I get transferred to a man, ask to make an appointment. He gives me an available time, I say I'll take it, and he goes "okay see you then". I ask if he needs my dogs name or my number or anything and he says "I'm not getting in the system right now just bring him". Mind you, the whole time I'm talking with them, they are speaking with horrible attitudes! I just won't leave my dog alone with people like that. read more

Do not get pet meds you do not get them (lost in mail) and they use your prescriptions anyway so you have to do emergency vet appointment s to try to get your pets meds on time. read more

I went to Petco to pick up a betta fish and a tank for it. When I went there, there were tanks advertised for bettas that were way too small for a betta to live in. In the betta section, the bettas were very unhealthy and unhappy. Obviously they haven't been taken care of. There was a dead betta that had been dead for seemingly about days. Many of them were on the verge of death. Overall a bad place for the fish. DO NOT buy at Petco. They need to fix they're problem and start taking care of their fish and stop false advertising. read more

I took my mini-poodle mix in for a bath and groom a few days ago and he hasn't been the same since. I thought it was just a little bit of stress from the groom, but it has progressed to the point that he is no longer the laid back, silly dog I had but now a clingy, whimpering, sad puppy. The groom and bath were satisfactory (for $70) but I noticed several red spots. Whether these are knicks from the clippers or chew marks, I'm not sure. He did come home with a couple of fleas (he is on monthly Comfortis and has never had a flea problem) which was distressing. All in all, I think the combination of too many dogs, too many hours cooped up and too little personal attention is what has left him so high strung and afraid these past few days. I won't take him there again and if you have a small or nervous dog, you shouldn't either. Someplace like Scrub-a-Dub where you schedule an appointment, just like at a hair salon, is definitely preferable to 6 hours at a massive grooming machine like Petco. read more

The grooming job was terrible, they were supposed to do a puppy cut leaving the face intact but they did their version of puppy cut all over. The cut was choppy and uneven from one side to the other and even within the same part of the body. They made my dog look like he is a different breed. They chopped the hair of his ears and now he looks hideous. Not to mention how long it will take for his face to go back to look normal. Sure they did not injure him but a bad haircut is still a bad job. I did not complain to the manager because you cannot go back in time. I paid for the "service" rendered and left the store. Since I vote with my dollar, I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

This location smelled as soon as we walked in. We'd just come from Petsmart because we're looking to adopt a dog, but this Petco had a strong odor of unwashed animals unlike Petsmart. The lighting was also very dim, which doesn't lend well to the atmosphere. Needless to say, we didn't stay very long and didn't buy anything. read more

We took our Great Pyrenees in for grooming, and the groomer did a horrible job. Not only did he not follow our instructions about keeping her hair at least an inch and a half long (Pyrs need their longer coats), but even her hygienic trimmed areas were cut so short she was nearly shaved down to the skin! Of the hair that wasn't cut to the skin, the cut was uneven and unmatched on both sides. The manager (thankfully) refunded the entire cost of our grooming appt. (and was very professional and friendly), but were were very disappointed not to have our instructions followed for the grooming and to get back a dog with a horribly uneven, bad trimming job. Do not use this location's grooming salon. They do not know how to trim a long-haired, large dog! read more

I take my Japanese chin here for his quarterly cut. The grooming is a bit pricy, $50. But the groomers do such a great job with the cut, and I'm always impressed with the outcome. My partner's mom thinks my dog looks like a puppy each time! :D read more

I just happened to be on this side of town, and was needing dog food, so I stopped in. I was pleasantly surprised. It was a very well laid out and large store. They even have lots of animals to purchase, or in the case of my niece to go...ohh and ahhh and how cute. Their employee was even nice enough to come on over and allow my niece to hold some of the furry little ones after he saw her joy at looking at them. I just wish the one in Sugar Land, was as nice. read more

I love the grooming department here! They do a great job- never skip any steps. I will often ask about adding on a treatment and they are always honest about whether it's needed or not. YES! Thank you, Petco! I was nervous coming here for grooming so I went to a "fancier"place. That place completely terrified my dog and did not treat his anxiety needs. Petco came to the rescue! The nice staff was patient with him and made sure his first grooming experience was successful (unlike the more high-end location I tried first). He left smelling amazing, fluffy, and so happy! It's a pet store! I don't know what peoples' expectations of a big box pet store are, but I think this Petco has everything I need - a decent selection and friendly staff. I placed a phone call to the store during lunchtime, and even though they were busy, the staff was happy to answer all of my questions regarding their dog training classes and didn't rush me at all. read more

Today, however, we had a lady helping us in the fish department that was super grumpy; my kids commented on it when we were leaving. Brought in my Labradoodle for a nice neat trimming to clean him up a bit, and they freaking shaved him entirely!! Wtf. I am so mad. I told them that I wanted him shaved around the butt area because his poo tends to get stuck and dry up there. Well I guess they took that to shave him completely. I also said "make him cute please!" I told them not to use flea shampoo on my 5.5 month old puppy. They said they would need to if they found fleas and I said absolutely not because she is just a baby. There is only one thing I'm allergic to in life and that is flea shampoo. When I got her back I was highly pissed off because I started breaking out in hives on my arms and neck. The groomer was very sensitive to my cat's shyness, and since she was hesitant about exiting the carrier, he simply removed the top and trimmed her nails right there in the carrier. He was very careful and professional with the trim. read more

I took my german shepherd dog (puppy at the time) to their training classes, the classes were ok, I mean nothing we couldn't have taught her at home. I also took her there to get a bath and a shave, and they refused to let me have the puppy price because she was so big, she was 4 month old but a big girl, at 40 pounds. Of course they didn't bother to tell me about the full price they were charging me until I went to pick her up and got stuck with a huge bill, not the price that they originally told me. They pulled all the excuses they could and finally just said she was a handful, which I get but, working in a pet place, shouldn't you be used to bigger and wilder dogs. Anyways they kept telling me how bad she was and how she was wildly out of control, and just all around not a pleasant dog to be around. I wont lie when I say my feelings were really hurt. My german shepherd is my life, she is my baby and it sucks having someone tell you she is out of control when she doesn't show any signs of this bad behavior to me in the past year and a half that I have had her. I have therefore decided to pay the extra amount at a fancy dog boutique that caters to bigger dogs just so that I know she is being treated nicely and I am not being given the run around and told horrible things about a dog that is practically my child...... read more

Terrible grooming experience. My dog had horrible bloody diarrhea after being groomed here and was miserable when picked up. In addition, nails didn't look any shorter than when dropped off and ears just as dirty. Person we checked out with to pay was incredibly rude as well, despite the dog's clear distress. hey Petco, your regional management needs to get ahold of this store and reteach customer service. My wife has been planning a trip overseas which has been very stressful because she wants to bring our lovely dog and the laws and restriction (if you know anything about that) create a lot of stress. That being said, my wife was looking for a specific type of crate with specific size and ventelation requirements of which my wife attempted to explain to a member of your staff. After repeated assurance and ignorance of my wife's stipulations he convinced her to purchase a crate that was not within those vary standards that she tried to explain. She then had to take time out of a busy day to return the item in which there was no repentence of any kind. This particular sale and refund resulted in never returning to that particular store and purchasing the correct product via competitor. - and I'm pissed read more

Wish I could say that my experience was a good one. Went into the adoption center, saw a kitten get dropped off, fell in love and then everything just spiraled out of control. Long story short, I was denied the chance to even TRY to adopt a kitten while a white female character I created was more than welcome to adopt the same kitten and its siblings. We were told that kitten was injured and set to be euthanized on the same day it was promised to "Tabitha" who essentially doesn't even exist. When I called the store to inquire about Teddy, I was immediately hung up on. Apparently Petco doesn't care about affiliating with an adoption agency that practices racism and discrimination against people with disabilities. I have emails, voicemails, videos and text messages as proof. They can ignore me all they want but I'm not going to stop speaking out against this because they are wrong. Race should never be a factor in determine whether or not a person can provide a loving home to an animal. read more

I never shopped Petco much before I moved to Houston. This store is very nicely laid out and the staff is consistent. My children purchased mice here (hey, it was their allowance), and I also buy my dog's items here. It's priced competitively, is always clean, and filled with friendly people. read more
