A lot of PetCos have free puppy play times. They do this to attract new training clients for their training classes. The problems though are that the play times are for puppies starting at 10 weeks. On a standard vaccination schedule (not rushed or skipping any) that age puppy is not fully vaccinated. So I highly recommend you wait to socialize your dog until they're fully vaxxed around 16 weeks. The other issue is the puppy play usually occurs mid day. That's probably a great time for a few dogs but most dogs are resting mid-day. Most dogs are most playful earlier in the AM or later in the PM. So this timing is going to result in a lot of pups being 'out of whack'. It's just like if you woke up a toddler child in the middle of the night and brought them to a party. The trainers are taught the PetCo method which is fine. But they're not all that experienced in animal behavior. They're usually young and I'm sure they're not well paid. The main reason to go to them for training isn't expertise (you can do it all yourself if you have trained a dog before and can read. Just read about positive dog training). The reason to take a class is the structure and socialization. But be careful about scheduling! Do it in person because the online class listing is mostly a suggestion. They cancel half those classes. (or just take your classes somewhere else.) Anyway about the store, there's nothing in particular that's special about this PetCo in comparison to any other PetCo, if anything it's smaller and more cramped than other PetCos. The location is ok though. And they often hold adoption events. read more

If you are a cat owner that is suffering from a cat that is litter box challenged, this review could be advantageous. First hand I was suffering from having a cat that was defecating anyplace but the litter box. I tried all kinds of litter and moving the litter box to other locations. Everything I tried worked to no avail. It was Department Manager Wendy at the Eastern at Serene Walmart that recommended Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract. She let me know that they sell it at Petco and Petsmart. Knock on wood, Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract alleviated the problem of the cat defecating outside the litter box. It was just recently that Petco opened a location on the southwest corner of Green Valley at Horizon Ridge Parkways in the recently built Target Shopping Center. It sells Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract. This location is close to the Eastern at Serene Petco. It has without doubt taken some of the business. Between the two Petcos, I have had a more favorable shopping experience at this location. First off it is new. Petco has improved the layout. walking from the parking lot to the entrance is less hectic. It is a football throw from New York Chinese Restaurant and Walgreens. It is a short walk to Target. Walking in this parking lot, I do not feel like I am going to get run over. Petco eliminated the big box look of the exterior by making it look like a barn. Inside there are employees that ask you if they could help you. I counted three on my visit. At the other location I had to look for somebody. When I would find them they would be helping somebody that found them before me. Petco would be smart to promote Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract. It is a necessary item that keeps cat owners from having to suffer from cats defecating outside the litter box. This is Petco's goose that laid the golden egg. It's unfortunate that Walmart Department Manager Wendy is the one aware of it. *Please keep it in mind that every situation is different. If my dog is having any issues, I'll stop in here for over the counter medicine. The store is located on the corner of Green Valley Parkway and Horizon Ridge. Their store is clean and very well organized. I can usually look down the aisle for the well marked categories of products. Store associates aren't hovering over you so you can browse freely. Sometimes the prices for various medicines or treats can be steep but I'll pay if it helps make my dog feel better. It has my dogs paws of approval. read more

My dog went through Puppy 1, Puppy 2 and has started Canine Good Citizen (she's 1 year & 4 months old). She's really cares about providing the best dog trying lessons so everyone in the house can be happy and safe. Tracy is so kind and sweet, she literally gets on the floor to smooch your dog, and is even sweeter to my daughter. She allows my daughter to come in and hold lizards, tarantulas, and other small creatures and ask a million questions while answering patiently. All the staff there seem to genuinely love animals. The dog food, dog treats and accessories are a little over priced in my opinion, but are inline with regular pet stores. As far as advice or training, I would recommend this PetCo. read more

Jeri the Grooming Salon Leader gave my high maintenance 11 year old dog a groom after months of nothing due to moving etc. I always get nervous because Mickey can be an arse hole he isn't that way in general just but I have spoiled him and he his a dramatic but being elderly I cater to him. Jeri assured me with a no nonsense spirit she could handle the situation. Jeri did just that! Mickey did snip at Jeri too, which made me feel bad. At any rate he his ready for summer, and I even got a big brown bag filled with treats which should last me for a long time! I really appreciate that! Bought a guinea pig from this location a while back. When looking, we noticed a weird spot in front of her ear where there was no hair and it looked particularly irritated and dry. The worker told us that sometimes they get into fights and it was a result of that. Well we brought our little furry friend home and not two days later we all turned up with the same spots on our body. This Petco sold us a guinea pig with ringworm. RINGWORM. We tried calling and talking to someone but with their sneaky ways, they made us sign some type of forms of non disclosure or something before buying her. But I didn't ;). So I'm here to tell you Petco is knowingly selling animals with contractible diseases. They say all animals get vet check ups before they go into the display cages to be sold. LIE. Any vet would be able to easily detect ringworm as ours did within a minute of observing her. Ringworm is HIGHLY contagious and I can't think of how many animals in that store must have it. It's a really big shame to think of the sociopathic owners and employees that are buying these animals from breeding farms and terrible conditions and putting them into WORSE conditions. Which is why I tend to favor Petco over Petsmart.... Flynn & I went to pick up his food & treats yesterday. Since we were close to this store we stopped here. We were immediately met, or rather surprised by, Dino, the assistant manager. Flynn is a dachshund & most dachshund owners love to talk with other owners about their "TARDIS" dogs. Dino wanted to meet Flynn & we swapped stories & shared photos of our kids. I don't know about you but I let my dogs pick out their own treats. Every treat or chew Flynn chose wasn't available for small guys like him. We had Dino running around checking stock. Flynn was disappointed that he didn't go home with what he wanted, but he'll get over it. After fetching a trolley for me, Dino helped me locate the brand of food I came in to purchase. Nothing makes me happier than to see this particular brand of food on sale: it rarely ever is on sale! And when it is on sale the monster size bags are usually excluded OR some flavours are excluded. What I wanted didn't have a Sale tag on it....Will I walk away disappointed? Will I have to go to another store? The shelf was empty, what can Dino tell me? FAB NEWS!! Both the bag & flavour I want is on sale!! YES! Dino moved the monster bag from the bottom shelf to my trolley. What Dino didn't know about me was I have a back issue and am preparing to have surgery. His assistance with this one small thing was a big deal to me!! Ok, this review is going to sound silly but, I have to be me, lol! The goldfish passed away last year so we still had all the stuff & out of nowhere my daughter says she wants a Beta. Ya know those sad droopy fish in lonely cups on the shelves in stores everywhere? So one day when we were in the area we popped in this store to see what they had. Surprisingly there was a big selection of different breeds. They were absolutely beautiful. I was mildly impressed. So she chose one & we brought it home. No big deal, right? Well I've heard of fish with "personalities" but for all that I've had over the years I've never owned one. Until now! Those Betas must be bred by someone who actually cares. We had to go back for 2 more. They are (I can't believe I'm going to talk about fish like this) dare I say - playful? They dance & beg for food like dogs, they will jump up and "high five you" (I'm sure they are jumping for a snack) and follow your finger on the side of the tank. It's crazy, they are by far the most vibrant, healthy little Betas I've seen! They would be a great choice for that first fish for a little kid! I came in to purchase some items, and there was a dog training class going on. I stopped for a moment off to the side to watch the "trainer", Reesa, with a small, scared dog. The dog was nipping and growling at her as she forcefully kept trying to touch him and pull him away from his owner. Now, I've worked with trainers in town before with foster dogs that I have taken in, and that's definitely NOT how you go about it with a fearful dog. Needless to say, she looked up and rudely asked me to leave. I asked why and she stated because she was teaching a class. I walked away and heard her telling the elderly owner that there was nothing she could do for her "aggressive" dog. Unbelievable. This so called trainer clearly doesn't know what she's doing. I left to follow the woman out, and gave her a trainer's number that has 20 plus years experience, and asked her to please not give up hope for her newly adopted dog. I am a loyal petco shopper but everytime i visit this location I have a bad experience. The store was a mess this last time and there was no help except for the person on the register. Customer service is terrible and the associates are rude. They called the GM over to help with a transaction because the cashier did not know how to work something and she was even more rude. I walked out without purchasing anything due to the lack of help and general courtesy. It's infuriating that Petco would let this keep happening. I took my dogs in for vaccinations and grooming. When I came for my next grooming appointment they had no record of vaccines, couldn't find them! I had a summary for one of my dogs from them that said my dog was ok to receive service but the record THEY PROVIDED wasn't acceptable! This place is a joke. This is at least the third time they can't find records and don't seem to know what they are doing despite having assured us the records were in order each time! So this is a review for the grooming part not the store. I originally wanted to go to a place right up the street from my house called sloppy kisses but called and said they no longer did grooming and really didn't recommend anyone. But I figure Petco has a big retail name and high standards so lets just give it a try well here is my horror story: I called at 10 am on a Saturday to see what the prices were and how long does it take. The gave me the info and it seemed reasonable so I said "Can I make an appointment?" Which I was replied just come in but it will take 2-3 hours due to it being a Saturday. So I showed up at 10:30 am and then proceeded to wait 3 mins for the person in front of me to finish. I wanted my small papillon to get a bath and a trim. Well she then wanted to sell me on the spa package with scents and other junk. I know I have a small little designer dog but he was a rescue and has very sensitive skin. So I just said no. He just has sensitive skin and needs the oatmeal shampoo. Well then I decided to get his nails trimmed and ended up having to buy that package because it was cheaper and they brush their teeth too. I was all good about it, he had never been to the groomers because I am a do it yourself person. He needed the cleaning after the winter. So I dropped him off and she said since you are doing all that 3 hours. I will call you, and I walked out at 1045 am. So I had to go to work at 1 and he still wasn't ready. I called and just asked if I could come down and pay and my mom would pick him up when he is done. So I did and then gave them my moms contact number. Well I noticed at 5 pm that I had received no information, so I called my mom and said did you pick him up? No, OK well then have they called? She said no. So I called and spoke with the and they said oh we have just been so busy give me an hour. So my mom comes in at 530 pm because it is just ridiculousness to have a dog who simply needs a bath and scissor cut and a nails clipped to be there more then 4 hours let alone 8. Again we where told no not yet. So finally at 615 pm he was done. He went all day no water! no food!! no pee breaks!!! This was the WORST EXPERIENCE EVER AT ANY PLACE!! What made it worse was that this was my first grooming experience, I mean I know its Petco but I work for a major retailer too live up to some sort of company expectations. So all in all I would give it a 0 if I could. THIS GROOMING CENTER IS HORRIBLE DON'T TAKE YOUR DOGS THERE!! I have to say that the ladies at the Grooming Salon in Petco at Green Valley were tombs sweetest most customer service oriented ladies I've ever dealt with at a dog groomer spot. Took my Doodles in as I had just went through 2 other groomers that same morning that were: 1. Surprise new owners at Nathalies Thrifty Pet on Windmill and the new owners just don't care, had no groomer on staff lol and just stared not knowing what to say. 2. My husband and I then drove Doodles over to Petsmart off of Silverado Ranch and the girl there said, "nope we are full but you can fallout other stores" without offering the phone numbers.... Ugh Soooo YAY we stopped at Petco in Green Valley and we were greeted by the wonderful ladies there ( so sorry only got Amanda's name) and they took Doodles in and gave him the best haircut/groom yet! Came in yesterday for a small shopping job with my dog, staff is beyond amazing. My dog is a 17 year old Shih Tzu has a hard time walking I though this would be quick and easy, it was. He was unable to walk in store but we ddi get a courtesy bowl of water, the stuff we needed was just small wet food and a dish feeder. upon paying for items, my hands and arms would be full the cashier offered to carry out the products to my car, so i could carry my dog. Im annoyed i ordered something online for pickup but forgot to put my boyfriends name on it so he could get it since i work until after they close so i called they asked for his name said thats fine we need to see his id and he can pick it up. So i sent him across town to get it after he got out of work which was pretty late as well and they wouldnt give it to him since it was under me so he drove home. Okay, so the store itself is wonderful. The staff is always helpful, and I'm in pretty frequently because I have 6 pets. My recent trip to the grooming salon really brought me down, though. So in total fairness, they're usually pretty great, AND I have two chihuahuas which are not typically a favorite breed of groomers. I took one in for a bath and nail grinding earlier in the week, and the groomer was just very... Cold? I know their notes on my dogs must not be great. The older of the two was super abused before I adopted her, so it took years to get her past being head shy, but she still hates getting her nails trimmed and or a nail grinding (the main reason I even bother taking them in). She gets nippy. I always warn them and try to tip a little extra out of appreciation. The younger of the two really doesn't have a reason to be nippy. She's a sweetheart at home, at the vet, at the puppy park, basically everywhere, but I'm inclined to believe the groomers when they tell me she's a nightmare for them. Again, I always try to be vocally thankful and tip accordingly. USUALLY the staff is pretty great and sympathetic to the fact that I stress the eff out bringing my dogs in for their sake and for the groomers' sake. Anyway, the groomer I had this week was just not cool. Like she made a real point to tell me she "knows" my dog can be nippy because it's all in her notes. So now I feel like the parent of a bad kid getting scolded at a parent teacher conference. ‍ I decided to do some shopping while I was in the store and dropped $$$, so I popped in to ask if it would be possible to grab my receipt before I picked up my pet since I was checking out and figured it would make the picking up process quicker and easier. I apologized for having to take the groomer away from the dog she was working on, but they were fully staffed. Again, she made a big production while at the computer about how it froze. I apologized, said no problem and that I would just pay later-- no big. Then she asked if my dog regularly empties her own anal glands. Maybe I'm a terrible pet owner, but I thought that was something done by the groomer and or vet, so I just sort of stared at her and asked her to clarify what she meant. Apparently my dog emptied her glands on this woman. (To be brutally honest, I'm not all that sorry.) When I came back to get my dog, again, the vibe was just nasty. Like... the whole experience was miserable, and I hated that I left my dog with that woman. I really grappled with leaving a tip, which, of course, I did because I just don't agree with not tipping for a service, but it was definitely lower than what I would typically leave. Now I'm in a conundrum about whether or not I need to find a new groomer. Again, I'm in the store all the time buying products for my 6 pets, and usually, they're nice enough, but I don't feel good leaving my pets with people if they're going to make a show about how sucky they think my dogs are. :-/ read more

I truly feel like sometimes living in Henderson is like living in the 1960s again, where people of color are harassed and picked out. I've been to this Petco plenty of times at night for a quick run in and I've always gotten a weird standoffish vibe from the employees. This time was just flat out DISRESPECTFUL. My boyfriend and I came during the day and decided to take our time and look around for some new toys, collars, and doggy treats. In our 20 minute duration in the store we had five different employees keeping an eye on us and constantly coming up to us and ask if "we needed anything". Not once did they say anything to any of the other shoppers around us. By the time the fifth employee came up to ask us if "we need anything" I was pissed. Every single aisle we went to another employee came up or stood in the same aisle side eyeing us. Being that my grandmother worked as their chief of security I am well aware on how they handle protocol. I have a yorkie poodle...do you know how much they cost?!?! I flew to Ohio 4 months ago to pick up my new little puppy. I was so excited to get him because we lost our other baby last Nov. . But because we were use to our other baby, who was an adult, we never thought about how hard it was going to be to raise a puppy again. I should have hired that gentleman at the Petco I was at that day, but decided to go to the one closer to me on GV Parkway in Henderson,Nv. What a MISTAKE!! I booked with Natalie and took my little Winston there today. Let me tell you, this girl had such an attitude problem it was not even funny. From the beginning she was talking down to me. Telling me It says right on the paperwork that no retractable leashes are aloud.( Which I will upload to show you) When I told her that was not the case, she told me to put my glasses on and check again. WOW! Then she told me to crate my dog if he is doing something he is not suppose to be doing; I was told by other trainers never use the crate as punishment. She said, I don't know who would have told you that. I let her know it was a trainer from there other store. I told her this not going to work out and I would like to take my dog elsewhere and I want my money back. I did say it's a good thing you do not teach children, she replied its a good thing I do not have kids. ( I do by the way) .Of course the young manager is going to stick up for her. The more I thought about it , the madder I was getting. I even did say I feel like slapping her. She was that RUDE.. I wish I would have read reviews before I booked there. Also, I spend a great deal of money there on my little Winston; oops, no more. And I will be calling corporate on her. Who knows, maybe she did not take her meds today. Do your little one a favor and stay away from that store and that Natalie. There are to many other professionals out there. Monkey takes his German Shepard Bear to Janine to get bathed and de-sheaded. Janine is always so good with Bear and treats him like he is part of her family with lots of patience,hugs and kisses. Bear always comes home smelling less doggy like and very happy. read more

This is the only groomer I'll take my ACD to see. My dog is an Australian Cattle Dog/Border Collie mix with a coat that grows insanely fast. Dog always looks good after they're done, they're up front with the costs, they do a better job than the mobile groomers or Vet groomers I've used in the past, and the costs are comparable if not cheaper. Also they're really proactive. The groomer thought Bob's nails were getting kind of long so he just handled it for me, which I appreciate. My dog recently had a tumor removed and I brought her after the stitches were removed. They thought it needed more healing before it would be safe to have a haircut, so they set an appointment for later. When I came back there was still some scabbing but they evaluated it and determined it was safe to proceed - which it was, so they know what they're doing. They're also timely. When they give you the pickup time, it's the pickup time. So yeah, I'd recommend this groomer to anyone who was looking for one. read more
