My husband & I took our puppy to Petco for the shot clinic. While we were waiting, 2 of the dog trainers for dogs were going thru the line talking to the new puppy owners. My husband thought it was a great idea and signed up. The 2 trainers said we would be getting a phone call from Petco advising us of the start date. After 3 weeks of no call I called. There were no classes on the nights we si!gned up for. So we went to the Friday night class. Last night, the 3rd week of a 6 week class, we were informed that the trainer was leaving for his new job that he told his manager 3 weeks ago as well as the class. The trainer told the class but no manager phone call. Well, everyone in the class demanded a refund since we didn't get our class. I feel bad for my puppy. He enjoyed the classes and loved making us smile and he loves to hear us say good boy. If you want to know, yes, I do plan on emailing Petco's upper management and let them know what went on an why they are losing a customer. read more

It's like a perfectly choreographed dance, and I'm the Michael Jackson of Petco. I can be in and out of this MFer in 30 seconds, unless, of course, I get stuck behind some crazy cat lady who thinks she's a war vet swapping stories instead of a checkout line. But anyways I'm Lightning McQueen in the aisles, or Ludacris on the highway faster times than a red bull pit stop. have been dropping off my two Yorshire Terriers to Petco for grooming for the last 5 years. When I initially set-up my pets profile they were set as X-Small. I recently discovered that beginning about 3 years ago - from the time I switched from my previous grooming location to this location (Gilbert, Warner) the size of my Yorkies went from X-Small to Small, which of course increased the pricing! (My Yorkies are currently 6 and 7.4 pounds). Also, on two occasions I was charged for additional services without prior notification or getting my okay. I will never drop off my dogs for grooming services or give Petco an extra dime of my money. read more

She remembered Mordy (my schnoodle) from the last time I brought him in and she is just very sweet and she did a great job on him! I also love the fact that the grooming takes place in front of big windows so you can actually watch everything if you choose to do so! This review is out of frustration. The person who helped me in the Vetco area was kind and courteous; however, Petco/Vetco keeps changing their policy regarding prescription pet food. I have a second pet who was recently prescribed prescription pet food. With my other pet, who was prescribed prescription food, you bring the prescription into Petco, and they fill out a card that you keep with you and must hand to the cashier when making your purchases. With my pet's condition, they will be on this food for the rest of their life. So, with my first pet, the Petco staff put on the card TBD for the date because there is no end date to the prescription (as indicated by the doctor on the physical prescription order). When I recently went in, the staff member at the Vetco counter let me know, yes, Petco/Vetco keeps changing how they want them to do it, and that she has to put that it expires in one year. I said okay what do I do then. She said you have to get another check-up with your vet and get another prescription. So I am confused as to how a staff member at Vetco/Petco is telling me medical directives over my pet instead of my pet's doctor? Maybe my pet does get annual check-ups? If the doctor is prescribing the food for several years or more, why is Vetco/Petco saying it's only good for a year? Now obviously I needed the food that day for my pet, but I will be looking into other, more convenient ways of obtaining items for my pets. I have no problem following a company's rules or guidelines, but when they keep changing and they don't make sense, then that makes me question things. ***Update: I want to thank Petco/Vetco for a quick response and clarification on the matter. I spoke with Natasha, who explained why they have made several changes to their policies. Due to staff (on Petco's side) not being trained or as familiar with laws, statutes, or regulations regarding the care of animals, vaccines, or prescription details were being missed when completing prescription food cards, such as needing an expiration date, which is a state requirement. Therefore, to protect the veterinarian's license and to prevent Vetco/Petco from getting in trouble, they changed their policy. As previously stated in my original review, I have no problem following a company's policy or guidelines if it makes sense, which this does. It's a 4 out of 5, because we had to go through all of this to resolve it, but thank you for the quick response, the honest information, and the genuine conversation. I know it is not feasible to explain every policy change to each customer, but having the state law/regulation that requires pets to have an annually updated prescription from their vet printed somewhere or handed to them when completing the prescription card. read more

I recently visited Petco Animal Hospital for a new patient exam and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. The wait time was excessively long due to being short-staffed, which was frustrating but I understand things happen. The rooms smelt bad like dirty mop water. When I finally got to speak with a vet tech, she didn't even introduce herself, so at first I mistakenly thought she was the veterinarian, I never got her name. After she took some quick vitals and left to go grab the doctor 10 minutes later I was informed by the vet tech that the doctor wouldn't renew my pet's prescription because he didn't know what the medication was and that he hadn't heard of that medication being used for cats. The veterinarian himself never came to talk to me and explain the situation or introduce himself, leaving me feeling confused and frustrated. The way the vet tech explained the situation also made the vet sound incompetent, which is not the impression I expected from a professional veterinary office. Mind you this was after I had been there an hour and a half. I was then informed that they wouldn't charge me for the exam (I would hope not I had a first time coupon and that was not an exam worthy of $80) Overall, this experience was far from what I hoped for, and I would encourage the staff at Petco Animal Hospital to improve their communication and customer service in the future. read more

PLEASE do NOT shop here! I have been a loyal Petco customer for many years. I've purchased prescription dog food from Petco providing my veterinarian's clinic's RX with no problem going back over the past 4 years purchasing prescription dog food. Supervisor SARA is the nastiest rudest employee I have ever dealt with at this Gilbert, AZ location at 5:50 pm on Thursday December 19th 2024. I had called in advance to find out if the prescription dog food was available which in fact it was. I drove out of my way to get there, over 20 minutes, dealing with a lot of traffic after picking my dog up from the vet with my brand new RX card ready to go. I picked up the dog food in line waiting to purchase. When I got up to the cash register, Sarah proceeded to treat me like dirt, talking down to me and denying my prescription card saying my prescription can't be accepted because it's from Petsmart. That is a lie because the prescription is from Banfield Pet Hospital NOT Petsmart and I've used the same prescription cards in the past from the same pet hospital with ZERO ISSUES. She then proceeds to tell me that there's some protocol that in her words has "always been in place" and that is I have to get my prescription dog food card from the veterinary clinic inside that particular petco for them to approve. That is a BOLD FACED LIE!!! Well the vet clinic inside Petco was closed when I got there so I was shit out of luck basically. When I called in advance to ask if the prescription dog food was available not once did the employee on the phone say I needed to go get my prescription "approved" by the vet clinic inside that location. I've NEVER had to do that in the past 4 years buying Hills prescription dog food. I've always presented my RX card and the employee at the register had to jot information down on some paperwork and I was able to purchase it no problem. Petco has now lost a customer and I will gladly take my hard earned money and give it to other pet food stores and businesses. This woman needs to at the very least be reprimanded but should be FIRED immediately for the way she treated me. I gather I'm not the only customer she's treated this way. Not once during the interaction was she kind or helpful, she flat out refused to help me and was the bitchiest employee I've ever encountered at any Petco location I've been to over the many years I've been a customer. What I find odd is that I've dealt with Sara in the past at this same Petco location and she has been kind and helpful until this earlier this evening. Cearly she was having a bad day and it does not give anyone the right or excuse to treat a paying customer the way she treated me. Not my problem and I really don't care. You do NOT treat customers that way. Good way to go out of business. So I do hope something is done to properly address this and her behavior. read more

I took my six year-old English Springer Spaniel, Bob, to the Gilbert, AZ Petco for a bath and a haircut, had an appointment for ten in the morning. I'd been going there for a couple of years about every three months for a bath, haircut, and nail trim. I got a call shortly after noon that day that there had been an accident. Apparently Bob had stepped onto some kind of drain and got his toenail stuck, in trying to free Bob his toenail got ripped off! This was a Petco with a vet staffed onsite so they told me he'd be seen by the vet as soon as he returned from lunch. My wife and I hurried the five minute drive to the store to find Bob's toenail hanging by a thread, quite bloody. Ten minutes later the vet got around to seeing Bob, said the nail should be pulled the rest of the way off and then bandaged. Initially the assistant manager stated that the accident must have occurred because Bob's toenails were too long, I told her to check her records, Bob had had a nail trim there around two months before this happened. Gee, they said there would be no charge for today, not that I'd have given them a nickel anyway. There are only two possibilities why this could have happened: dangerous conditions existing there, or gross negligence, maybe even a combination of the two! We'll take Bob to our own vet after the weekend, I'm not looking to make money off of this, just trying to warn others. But wait, there's more! Today when I went for some physical therapy the office manager told that seven months prior to this she had taken her small dog, Ollie, there for some shopping. While walking down one of the aisles with Ollie leashed the little dog ran into something and got poked in the eye by some object sticking out. End result, she had to take Ollie to the emergency vet clinic, they had to remove the dogs eyeball. I won't be going back there ever, if you should go there with your dog, be careful! We brought one of our dogs in for vaccines at the Vetco clinic, no problems there and everything went well. While wandering the store to wait out our 10 minutes for the results on there heart worm test, I saw they had Cardinal Tetras in the aquatic section. These are normally a special order item for Petco, so I thought "great, I'll buy out the tank!" Looked around for an employee for several minutes, and couldn't find anyone to get the fish out for us. So we went to the register and paid for the vaccines. The cashier called for someone to come help us back in aquatics. After waiting back there for another 10 minutes with nobody showing up to help, my wife went back to the front to ask. A different cashier said "she (other cashier) already pushed the button, they're on their way." So we waited about 5 more minutes before walking out of the store. After a disappointing experience at a competitor, I decided to take my French Bulldog at Petco in Gilbert, AZ (Warner and Val Vista location) for a nail trim and grinding. I am so happy that I did! Ashley at the front desk was very welcoming. And the groomer, Hunter, was so efficient that with Ashley's help in calming down my pup, they were able to get my pup's nails trimmed neatly AND fast. I took my dog Aslan in for vaccines at Vetco and unfortunately there was an incident where another customers dog bit mine in the store. While that incident was very unfortunate, I was absolutely blown away at how Petco handled the situation. The general manager, Dakota, was extremely kind and was super helpful in getting my dog quickly evaluated on-site by the vet that was there. They decided that my dog probably needed X-rays to make sure nothing was broken, so she accompanied me over to the animal hospital to get him further checked out. Two different managers came to stay with me the entire time I was at the animal hospital and Petco covered the whole bill. It went a really long ways to show how much Petco (the company) and Dakota and Tracy (the two managers) cared about my little dog. I was so impressed and thankful. This Petco will be our go to spot for any of our pets needs. read more

Two years ago I took my miniature schnauzer to get groom before Christmas. If it was such a bad experience, I told the girl to do the "schnauzer haircut" I ended up with my dog without hair at all and did not have an apology or something at all from anywhere in the store, they were mean and rude.. so last month I decided to make another appointment for my other dog, and I got a text saying my appointment has been cancelled and this was the reason "Hi this is the Petco grooming in Gilbert, we will be unable to take Manchas in for grooming, last time you were in with us you were very unhappy with the groom and we are no longer comfortable grooming for you." I did not feel comfortable either and still was willing to give them a second chance to see if maybe they would do the right this time? Because I go there every time to buy all stuff for my dogs so I said why not? Let's try. My 2 year old dog had just been diagnosed with renal dysplasia, after her hospitalization I was sent home with her on hospice with no idea how long we had left together. I was relived to hear that this petco sold prescription diets as I need to get the kidney food for her and had always preferred petco. What a mistake, wish I had gone to petsmart. I should have known it would be a bad experience because when I first called asking which kidney food they had in stock the woman who's name was never given but whom I also encountered when I entered the store, was the rudest human I have ever experienced. Over the phone I asked a simple question, "can you tell me which dry rx kidney food has a higher moisture content?" The bags show this information on them, this was not a hard ask. Her response was a laugh and the statement "dry dog food has no moisture in it whatsoever" so I already know she's an idiot. Her low IQ is likely why she's such a rude human. And when I entered the store and asked where to find the rx food she was just as rude but luckily she had another sales associate assist me in the store, she was kind and helpful while I cried and tried to purchase every food option available. Anyways my dog died two weeks later and I had spent around $200 on the food, some cans weren't opened, the dry foods hardly used, and I knew I could return them even if they were opened but because of the terrible experience I already had at this place it wasn't even worth it to ever go back, especially while I was grieving my pet. I spent $11,000 in hospitalization so what's another $200 on food. But I thought it was time to share my awful experience. It was on April 25,2024 around 11:30 am, and the woman was some sort of shift lead. I'll never return and I'll share my story with every pet store I enter for years to come because in all my life I've never experienced such a rude interaction. I have been coming here since I rescued my Charlie 3 years ago. I called up and got put in with Skylar. She has been the only groomer who Charlie sees and just adores her. I have had continuously brought Charlie back over the years to her on a 4-5 week intervals. Services are always thorough and she works well with Charlie and his many cysts. Ali was my groomer for about seven years first I brought my dog Luna she is a mini Australian Shepherd and she was going there for about four years until I got my dog rollie and he is a standard size. never any issues over the years besides just recently, my groomer have taken a leave because she is pregnant and from my understanding she was only able to groom my dog illegally on the ground because he was scared of the table. honestly it shouldn't be my fault that nobody wants to groom him because they don't want to take on the responsibility of grooming him illegally on the ground but like I said it shouldn't be my fault because it is their job to get him used to the table. so when I called to make an appointment they gave me issues over the phone saying that they will not be able to groom my dog obviously upset with the new workers they refuse to take me now because i was rude. well duh i was rude i have been going here for 7 years. please do not give them business they will F you in the end read more

First time coming to this location. Atmosphere was chill at first . Drove over an hour to come to this location to possibly make a purchase on a new pet . The first guy was busy and called another employee over to say that people wanted to play with the animals . Caleb came over and the way he approached and the manner in which he spoke was very rude . Though he said he wasn't trying to to be rude it came off very rude to the point if the person wanted to make sure they pick the right pet or not they are robbed of the options to pick and interact with any because he says the animals can get covid if touched if a person breaths over the multiple holed cage top the animals would still catch covid . I would advise to not purchase something without checking if it is a right fit . Don't let the employees talk disrespectfully to you when you won't being disrespectful to begin with. I made an appointment at the Petco in Gilbert, AZ (Warner and Val Vista) to have my extremely overweight (husband's fault!) and elderly Siberian Husky get vaccinations updated from the Vetco Clinic inside. He has bad hips due to his weight and has a problem walking without traction. The floors in Petco were slippery and he immediately slid down and couldn't get up. Brianna and Shay (spell?) immediately grabbed mats to put under him and shuffled them in front of him as he walked (like Red Carpet treatment!) until he made it to the clinic. They repeated the service until we left the store. They helped us tremendously and I feel they deserve big kudos for their customer service...great employees! read more

This was my first time visiting this Petco. I wanted to buy some pet food as I was going to a rescue event later in the day and they needed dog and cat food. Many people were in the store for their vaccination event. I browsed the store and at no time did an employee ask if I needed help or said hello. The cashier (not friendly) asked if I had a Pals card and I did not. She didn't offer to get me one. She also didn't say thank you when I left. Not the best customer service. Management needs to train their employees better. Fail. For better prices and customer service go to PetSmart. read more

Brought them 2 puppies for shots and they were refused because when they got their first round of shots from another vet they had 1 runny poop within 48 hours which is completely normal after they get dewormed! Called the vet who gave the shots and he said they should probably take the license away from this vet and I agree. These people seem to do ANYTHING not to do their job. Horrible, horrible, horrible. We went in to buy a fish for my daughter for Christmas. The woman working told us we needed a 10gal tank, multiple fish, heater, filter system, etc. Fine, ok. We followed her instructions to the tee. On Christmas morning (2 days later), 5 out of the 6 fish were dead. Super fun to teach my kids about death on Christmas. The next day we go in and talk to someone else and she's like "who told you to do this?! This is all wrong" and we were like are you freaking kidding me. We went back one more time a month later to grab some supplies and that first girl was still in the fish dept selling fish even after we talked to the manager. I even tweeted Petco to tell them about it and they said they would follow up and call me which never happened. A friend of mine went in to this location last week and the enter fish dept was shut down and all fish were under observation. Needless to say, we have been going to Petsmart and have had ZERO issues. I definitely recommend avoiding this location at all costs. read more

I needed to get my dog his rabies vaccine and heard that Petco has a vet in on certain days. No appointment needed. Different locations have different "Vetco" days so I called to make sure this location offered these services on Saturday. I was informed that the vet is there from 9:30-12 on Saturdays and to get there as soon as they open since it gets busy. I didn't end up getting there until after 10 though. I think I ended up waiting for about 30 minutes which wasn't bad. They're quick and efficient and I paid $19 for the vaccine. Definitely better than trying to get an appointment with your vet and rushing after work to get there. read more

I will never go to this petco again on Warner road and Val vista in Gilbert. It's a shame because the people who work on the floor and the cashier were very polite. But their trainer Jason at this petco was rude and obnoxious very disrespectful. He wouldn't let me speak. Interrupted me when I tried to explain myself. When I did speak all he did was roll his eyes and yell at me making me feel like I was some kind of idiot. He didn't even seem like he wanted to help me. He seemed like he wanted to be somewhere else and not in the moment. I've worked many years in customer service and never in a million years would I ever treat my customer the way he did. Belittling isn't a good way of getting people to come back to your store. I tried to explain what the problem was and he kept saying there was nothing he could do.
