DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE FOR GROOMING A few years ago, I used to get my dog groomed here, and they did a decent job. Today I took him and I was told it would take a while. Okay, I understand, it'd been a while for grooming for him, and he has a double coat of very thick hair. I was told they were short-staffed and that there would only be one groomer there to work on him, so it would take several hours. About 15-20 minutes in, I was called to come pick him up. The girl stated he wouldn't stand on the table for her. He's a 135 pound, 10 year old dog. She said he was choking himself and his tongue was turning purple. WHAT??? So I raced back there to pick him up, and she had shaved his back legs and his stomach TO THE SKIN. This is a double coated dog. You don't shave them to the skin, you shave them to about 1/2 inch or so. He looks so pathetic. I was too livid to speak to the manager at that time. I could not believe when I got home and saw the damage. I should have known when I first got there and Carla asked me to bring him back tomorrow morning (when I assume she wouldn't be working). I said no because I have other things set for tomorrow and it's an ordeal to get him in and out of the SUV. Never again. Carla just didn't want to deal with it. This is a very gentle dog, he does not fuss, and I've never had a groomer not be able to handle him before. I've never had one start the job and refuse to finish it. She just didn't want to do it. Period. UPDATE: Talked to the current manager who wasn't there this afternoon, and she is going to investigate. I told her I have pictures, if I can get an email to send them. Pup is crying a little tonight, which is unusual, like he's hurting somewhere. UPDATE 2: Well, the manager did call back, and told me she'd watched the videos and I'd agreed for him to be shaved if there were mats. I said, yes, I sure did, but I expect a qualified groomer to know that with a double-coated, long haired dog, shave means 1 inch from the skin, not down to the skin. That is what shaving should have been done. They didn't offer to fix it, didn't offer a discount to go to another Petco to get it fixed, and when she said that my phone number and the dog weren't in their system, was that the Petco I'd been to before, it felt like she was calling me a liar. I told her so. So she told me that there is a mobile grooming service at some Petcos, and gave me a number to call. That place was in Denton and doesn't service this area, of course. So they gave me the number of the Petco on 380 in McKinney to see if their mobile service could help. Ashley was very nice, and she will be here on Saturday to try to correct this issue as much as she can. So update 3 coming soon. At least Ashley sounds very competent and seems to know how to work with large, older dogs. UPDATE 3: No luck from the mobile van either. I can't figure this out. This dog has never had anyone have problems giving him a haircut before, so is it just Petco? We'll be going back to our regular groomers in November with a regularly scheduled appointment since they're now so busy. Will not be darkening Petco's door again. Petsmart will be getting all our business from now on. I'll drive farther and pass our local Petco for our food, etc. Very unsatisfactory experience all the way around. But just to let them know, you do not cut a double coated dog's fur less than 1 inch long. It affects their ability to regulate their temperature. I'm going to Amazon now to buy some clippers and will trim him up so he at least looks decent myself since the others don't seem to be capable.

This is what happens when you take your pet to this location.

I'm new to the area and i decided to have my doodle groomed by Preston. Once i dropped Him off he wasn't there for the initial consultation so i had to discuss what i wanted with someone else hoping she would relay the messages. I scheduled his appointment at 10am not thinking it would take over 3-4 hours. It never took more than 2 hours to have him groomed. I called at 12:30 to check the status and they said another hour and a half. I had to be at work by 2 so that wasn't going to work. Once i called back to see if it was any way to have him done sooner i was put on hold to speak with his upmost ignorant groomer Preston. He was beyond sarcastic i could hear the attitude in his tone when i expressed my concerns regarding time. He said i can come pick him up now. I asked if he was done and he replied "NOPE" As far as customer service i see why he only works with dogs. I was extremely upset once i arrived his hair was taken way too short which is not what i asked for and turn he Preston cut my dog with the clippers. He has a few good gashes which by the way has never happened!! He needs major coaching and another training on grooming this is completely unacceptable.

I hope that this review helps another dog owner. I had a more than bad experience at the Vetco in Frisco. I brought my dog in to be treated due to a scab that had developed on her ear. The vet techs were very nice and took her to the back room for the vet to exam her ear. I repeat, exam her ear! At that point, I had never met the vet. When the actual vet brought my sweet dog back to me, he explained that he had cut the top of her ear. He also explained that we really don't need that part of the ear and that she would now be without the top part of her ear forever. He offered a pain medicine for any discomfort. I am furious right now!!! How does a doctor cut on a dog without the permission of the owner and bring the dog back to the owner as if this procedure was authorized? I never authorized this or any other procedure. My dog was there for an examination only. How do you go from an examination to being cut on without the owner knowing? I have so much more to add, but I'll stop here. OMG! This vet has to be crazy to do something like this to an animal or a pet family. PLEASE avoid this location!!!

She used harsh chemicals on him and left them on too long, which burned and irritated his skin. On top of that, she aggressively scratched him with deshedding tools, leaving him raw and in pain. Within 24 hours, my sweet happy and energetic dog became lethargic and very unwell, barely able to move and not eating or drinking. We had to rush him to the emergency vet, where we were told that his rash and sickness were caused by contaminated grooming tools and/or the harsh deshedding products that were left on him. I asked all the questions and double checked that there was nothing else that could have caused this and he doubled down on the groomer causing this harm. Hearing this from a medical professional broke my heart -- my dog suffered because of carelessness and disregard. No pet owner and more importantly no pet should ever have to go through what we did. I entrusted Helen with the health and safety of my dog, and instead, he was harmed and traumatized. Please think twice before allowing Helen to touch your dog. Our pets deserve gentle, safe, and compassionate care -- not to be put at risk. Photo is of Apollo prior to groom and then another two photos after she groomed him and he had to have portions of his coat SHAVED off because of the burns and scratch's on his skin

My usual…read moregroomer was on maternity leave so I needed a new groomer for a little while and tried out Bow Tie after seeing the reviews. Helen was sweet and Jelly was not injured during the groom. However, Helen shaved my dog Jelly all the way down due to being "too matted". Jelly had been to many other groomers before in the same state (sometimes scruffier/even more "matted") and was always able to be brushed out and given a normal cut. (I have included before and after pictures of jelly -- you will see he was NOT "matted" beyond help.) All other groomers I've had take the time to de-tangle. It felt lazy that Helen decided to not take the time to brush jelly out and instead told me she "had no choice" but to shave him completely, changing the shape of his face and tail. If I had known she would've done this, I would've taken jelly to another groomer. It took months to get him back to normal. I showed pictures that I wanted jelly to look like and it was not at all. At the end, it ended up costing over $300, and she asked me to please leave a tip too. (My usual groomer is $100, and does a MUCH better job than Bow Tie.) I understand it is difficult to run a small business but I was upset with the service. I would only recommend this service to someone who just needs their dog to be trimmed, and might not be particular about how their dog looks after. Edited to add: the reason why I'm leaving a review months later is because I was showing pictures of Helen's handiwork to my regular professional dog groomer recently, and told her about Helen's reasoning behind why she "had to" shave jelly down (Helen is the only groomer to complain about this in the four years I've had jelly & his care is largely the same) and my professional dog groomer told that it was ridiculous that jelly was shaved down for what was clearly minimal matts, and that it was clear that Jelly was not brushed down properly by Bow Tie (maltipoos require wet brushing, not the dry brushing that Bow Tie attempted, because they have curly hair and not fur).

When I received Grizzly post tidy up he was shaking, still wet, and digging his claws into me. Once home I had to blow dry him myself only to discover he had 2 cuts. One inside of his ear and another on his inner leg. I expected a tidy trim but he had been completely shaved from belly button down and his entire tail hair had been cut off into a stub instead of trimmed. The groomer nor front desk associate mentioned anything and when I called to speak with management, I was told they would call back. It's now been 2 days with no returned call or concern for their negligence. $170 later and my dog has an uneven and unattractive underbelly and backside, shorter ear fluff (when we never asked for this to be cut) and trauma from being nicked in the process. For the price you can go somewhere that will actually care for your fur baby and communicate when things don't go as planned.
