When: June 12, 2011 and June 13, 2011 Location: Concord Ave in Concord Company: Boyfriend and Mom Vibe: Not happy Decor: Don't really care Loved: NOTHING Hate: GROOMING DEPARTMENT Total: $50 for Hair cut + 5 Tip which my mom paid before the haircut. Medical Expenses= $$$$$ That Petco will be paying for.. Side note: UNPROFESSIONAL! First of all, we brought my dog Chuwe to get a bath and a cut. When my boyfriend and I picked him up on Sunday morning one of his eyes wasn't opening. I asked her about it and she said he was fine and it was a little irritation. So we left thinking his eye was going to open up in a few mins. The whole day went by and still his eye was still shut. My mom and I went back to Petco the next day to talk to a manager. He brings Vanessa, the groomer out and she came out being defensive and started yelling at me. Of course, I started yelling back and the District Manager told her to leave and will take care of it. The district manager offered us 50% refund. We told him we weren't looking for a refund, we just want to know what happened to my dog! He told me the dog looked fine. I told him that my dog wasn't fine and he's never looked like this ever. He offered to send him to the vet, which we did go to and the doctor told us that the cornea was really scratched up. My dog has to be on medication for 2 weeks. WHAT THE HELL?? Sending me home with my dog and tell me he's fine and nothing was wrong. That's bulls@#t!!!! I called Petco today (6/14/11) and wanted to know what actions was going to take place for that groomer. SHE STILL WORKS THERE!!! 1. She cut my dogs eye. Diagnosed him with being fine and it was a little irriation. 2. Got defensive and started yelling at me INFRONT of the district manager. 3. Brought my dog to the vet to see what happened to my dogs eye. She scratched the crap out of it. My dog as to be on medication for 2 weeks. Incurred a huge medical bill that PETCO is paying for. And she still works there? Wow! Is petco really desperate to have the groomer there? I talked to SO many people about what happened to my dog and they assumed that she was going to get fired! But nope! I know a lot of business is filing for bankruptcy, I wouldnt be surprise if Petco was next.. read more

This store just opened a couple of weeks ago and is very convenient to my office. It is big, clean, and carries the products that I use. I came in here today to pick up a big bag of cat food for my chowhounds...err, chowfelines :-) Customer service was great. Was browsing and was asked by a polite young man if I needed any help and he directed right to where I needed to go for the specific item I was looking for: Science Diet Indoor cat food. He even carried the bag to the front for me and would have carried it to my car if I wanted. So why only 3 stars? Unless I need something urgently, I will probably go a little more out of my way and visit Pet Food Express in Pleasant Hill or Walnut Creek because they give me a discount for my volunteer work at the Martinez shelter. It is really convenient to shop for my cats when I'm doing a Mobile Adoption for the shelter at the WC Pet Food Express. read more

This was my first stop on this road trip with my pooch. I was thrilled to find out there's a PETCO (1150 Concord Ave), Concord, CA across from the hotel. On my initial appointment at 9:30am, I showed up about 10 min earlier. I walked thru the door enter the reception area, there was no one there. However, I could clearly hear people talking and laughing but no one wants to come out and serve. So, I proceeded to knock on another groomer's glass door, ignored again, then opened it to ask for service as my patiences runs to its minimum. The two discourtesy staff was found hiding under their seats eating and talking. The attitude of that reluctancies to called for their duty was rather annoying. As we began, I realized I had left and forgotten to bring Oscar's rabbis certification. My past experience, some groomer such as the PETSMART groomers would call my vet and ask to have the document faxed. With concerned of my dog's grooming experience, I didn't want to push the envelope. Instead, I ask to have the appointment re-scheduled for 4pm on the same day. The groomer said it's ok as long as I bring the dog back before 4. As we returned at 3:55, the groomer insisted that he told me before 4 appointment. I told him that why we are here now and it is before 4pm. What is the problem? He said it with a snarlingly and condescending tone, "I told you to bring your dog before 4." Immediately, I realized that he couldn't do it because he must have another appointment. Grudgingly with time already squandered unproductively by morons, I left. At first, I thought who on earth make appointment like this??? Normal people would say, "Oh, I have a 4pm appointment and is booked all the way, would you like a 3:30pm" of the sort. Then, I realized this guy simply lack of basic communication skill which needed to survived; hence, the bitter-sour face he wears. I had 2 days to observe the store since my transportation was in jeopardy at the time. Aside from the Grooming mishaps, I must say Oscar and I enjoyed shopping in the food and supply department. The staff had been professional and helpful especially cashiers. Unlike its counterpart, Grooming department is the evil semitwin at this local. I wondered if their employers allowed such lacks behavior? Do they even realized that they are paying someone to ruin the company image and reputation? Have they even considered the feeling of those who worked hard at the other department? read more

This place is absolutely horrible. I took my dog for his 1130 appointment. When I didn't hear from them, I went down there to check at 3pm. He still didn't have his hair cut yet. WTF?! Then when we finally left he used the bushes outside and peed for a while. This means he was locked in a crate for 4 hours without a bathroom break. We are going to be having problems. Oh not to mention, when I get there I am told they gave my leash and collar to somebody else! read more

We obviously made the pet store rounds this weekend. I had forgot to pick up tank filters and was close by this location. It was adopt a dog day so, again, we had a chance to hang out with some pet adoptees. No, we didnt get one but it was nice to warm up to the idea of possibly adding a dog to the family come summer. Nice big store and we found the staff to be just fine! read more

I've shopped at this Petco many times since it's on my way home and right next door to my local Trader Joe's. In general my experiences at the store have been positive - I shop there to get food and the occasional accessory for my cat. It's very disappointing to read below how poorly the staff/management are treating customers. In my experience shopping yesterday 6/24/13, the staff was actually gathered near the front, appearing to be training a new employee, and I was greeted very warmly by nearly all of them. The bummer was when I went to the cat section to grab a bag of food, the section was very poorly stocked and I had to settle for a type I don't normally get. A glance around revealed many other holes on other shelves too. For a store full of employees generally standing around, this was a bit disappointing. A very friendly young female employee rang me up, but mailing boxes of I assume stock were sitting all over the countertops where customers are supposed to put their purchases. I would expect a store to look like this late at night or first thing in the morning, not at 4:30 in the afternoon. I also found out a while back while hunting for a groomer that they don't groom cats, just fyi. So not the best store, and in my experience not the worst. But they do seem to be on a slight decline. read more

Would never come back here for grooming. I usually go to Petsmart but I couldn't get an appointment in time. The hair was not even and the tip of her tail was literally one snip cut. It was a horrible job! read more

I took my 9 week old puppy in tonight for his first training class with Renae. I just have to say she is so awesome. I've been in here with my boyfriend a few times when we first got him and she was always so helpful with what we needed for our first puppy. She pointed out perfect treats to give him, what kind of food, how to potty train and crate train, and was never hesitant to answer any questions we may have had. The first puppy level 2 class tonight was a little slow just for the dogs to all get to know each other but we have already learned so much and have brought the training home with us. I recommend taking any of Renae's training classes if you are just getting a brand new puppy, even the adult dog classes. Tonight we had a year old dog in the puppy classes and she was even able to teach him. I haven't met any of the other trainers but Renae I already know Renae is the best :) hope this helps!!! The obedience classes are well worth it in the long run. read more

I recently brought my dog in to be groomed by Kevin, and he did a phenomenal job! My dog is very finicky, especially regarding his ears and face, but Kevin really did fantastic on him. I know that took infinite patience, and I'm so grateful for his hard work!! And I discovered recently that you can schedule an appointment online! YES!!!!!! I will say this...the last time I took my pup in, Vicky was his groomer. She said he was too difficult to groom all the way, so I had to do some finishing work at home. read more

We frequent pet stores for aquarium builds. This visit, the store was a bit busy and we had to wait our turn for assistance. Jeff was able to make his way eventually to aquarium and was very polite and helpful. Notably, Christa was apologetic and kind regarding the wait. She took note of our particular interest and informed of us a cool upcoming delivery. We'll be back! read more

Came in for my dog's appointment I made 2 weeks ago , I was 10 min early , the man told me I was really to early for check in , Petco also did not let me know I needed to bring in proof of his vaccinations, which were done at the very same Petco and because Petco and vetco have yet to update there system , I can not get my dog into the groomers , this has never been an issue when I take my dog to Petco in Brentwood they are always very helpful and tell me they can email or fax over his vaccinations when I've needed them. This is very unfortunate considering I had to take work off for this day and Petco in concord is not even willing to help me out . read more

Never had a problem until they cut off a part of my dog's nose. DO NOT GROOM YOUR DOG HERE!! Not only did they butcher the dog but they managed the aftermath horrifically. Grooming: 0 stars. My wife and I had been taking our dog to this Petco for quite some time now (over an year) and never had a problem. The last time we took our dog, the "groomer" cut off a chunk of our dog's snout. They didn't call to let me know what happened, instead I had to drive there since they close at 6 to find out that they had cut a piece of her nose off. They told me to bring her to their vet and they would take care of the bill. We ended up going to their vet a total of 3 times. Aftermath Management: Not once did anyone from Petco call to follow up, I had to call to chase down the district manager to try to persuade him to let us take her (our dog) to OUR own vet. Pete seemed more concerned about the cost of the vet appointment thatn how our dog was doing. I was only asking to bring her in for one check up, maybe $100 at most for piece of mind. Needless to say, he wanted us to bring her to our vet then bring them the bill and maybe they would reimburse. Really??? Maybe??? We boycotted that Petco for about a month, but realized that our dog at least needs a nail cut and a bath. We called for an appointment and scheduled one for next week. We received a call back and was told that "because of her age" they could not accept her to give her a bath or a nail cut. REALLY?!?!?!?! Somehow I doubt her age has anything. They left us with a dog which only had half of her hair cut, half a nose, and who knows what else was partially done. Even though the first "haircut" was free, it was not complete and they never offered any compensation or even asked how she was doing. Definitely never going back to this Petco ever! I will keep updating this review or post new ones weekly. I started this yelp only to write this review. I have never written a negative review, but this situation made me start this account. I will definitely call corporate about this situation (I saw an earlier post that said they called). BAD GROOMING + HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT (PETE) = DISASTER read more

Another disappointing visit, only came here because they were out of super worms in petsmart concord. They look down on Asians for some reason, and I wouldn't normally leave a review but this is not the first time this has happened to me at this store. The workers there are unfortunately 'VERY RACISTS' and they wouldn't even give you a second look but I see them being very nice to 'white' customers. Very sad that this is still the kind of society we live in with people that are still treating others of different skin color. Needless to say I left without buying anything. read more

Corrine groomed my dog yesterday! He is afraid of water and got a bath and Corrine made sure to cut his nails (brush his teeth for the first time ever --yaaaay much needed), and bath him!! We got the Delux package which is more like a spa package for your cute lol doggie!!! Catherine was very accommodating I'll deff be bringing my dog back again! Service is great and they love animals there!!!! Also a girl who works there who's boyfriend has three dogs (blonde) was helpful and informative as well! Basically all the staff was great shout out to the Mexican (or Native American or super tan) dude who helped me find my dog paw creme and the young white dude who kept petting my dog and loving on the animals! Very glad with the service!! Byeeeee read more

Brought my Bichon here this past Sunday and I'm convinced she wasn't even bathed! When I first arrived, a woman with purple hair (I didn't catch her name) told me it would only take about "an hour" to completely grooming my dog....yeah right! I then received a call about 3 hours later to pick her up and was told to pay at the front before pickup, which is something I have never been told to do after coming to this location for nearly two years. Needless to say after 3 hours you would think my dog would be clean, right?! Wrong!!!! Her coat was left wiry/curly and not fluffed out per the usual styling she has received here in the past. It appeared as if someone just wet her coat and did not apply any shampoo and then let it dry; my dog looked and smelled worst than when I brought her in. Her ears (internally) were still dirty and her sanitary area was not cleaned properly. I was angry at the fact that I was told to pay for the service upfront (and provide a tip) before actually seeing how my dog looked! I got her home and noticed that the hair around her paws was also still dirty. I called later to report this to the "store manager" and was told I could bring my receipt back in and receive a refund. Then she offered that I could bring my dog back to be groomed again and I could directly explain my issue with the groomer and I swiftly declined this offer. What do I need to explain except that my dog was left in their care for 3 hours, didn't receive a bath and looks worst when compared to how she looked when I brought her in! I will never patronize this location, especially after the exceedingly poor service I just received. Don't waste your time or money! read more

I've always been able to find what I'm looking for at this PETCO and the staff has always been more than friendly and helpful. In fact, when I shop there with my English Bulldog (who LOVES to be paraded around town) in tow, the staff goes nuts over him and feed him a TON of attention. The only reason I give this four instead of five stars is that it is a bit pricey here. I come here when there's a specific item I can't find for our "baby" at Costco, or something. read more

I have two yappy terriers that get anxiety at the groomers. My wife and I struggled with finding a place where they got in and out quickly and were treated well. We finally decided to give Petco's grooming staff a try. Two years later, we continue to be blown away. Our dogs look forward to going there. The staff is amazing with them. The grooming facility is top-notch. And the prices are great. Who would have known that the best grooming experience in town would be inside a pet store? read more

I have gone to Petco grooming for 5 years. Always good experience until Marko was assigned to cut my Pomeranian hair. Never have seen this guy until today. He stated he was going to shave my dog it would take too much time to use scissors. I told him no shaving my dog, he stated he could not use scissors it would take too long and he did not have the time. Even though I made this full grooming appointment 2 weeks earlier. I asked to talk to the gentleman who always does my dog, he does a great job without shaving.... marko told me no everyone was too busy to talk with my husband and me. Marko was the rudest, know it all, attitude groomer I have met. So long Petco! We left and are never coming back!! I wish you luck if you take your dog to Marko. read more

I have had multiple appointments for grooming at this Petco and have yet to have the appointment. And now especially during covaid you would think that folks have more patience and understanding. You wait weeks for an appointment and there is no accommodation, compromise or resolutions. Pet o says they have reminder calls, but I never received one. I got to my appointment 45min early and because they were at capacity in the store I waited in the shopping plaza. At no point did any ask for paperwork or say do you have your dogs vaccination record. I can back 5 min after my appointment time, checked in and discovered that I needed my dogs record. I proceeded to call home to have them scan it and then I called the vet, who emailed it. During that time the groomer said they could no longer take my dog. I have a doodle puppy that couldn't even come outside until his vaccines were done, he has all of his tags and I did receive his record where his vaccines started and yet in the 15 min it took me to get it they couldn't take him. Even though we had a 3hr appt. and two dog appt at that. I asked for a manager (which I had passed by the front entrance on my way in). And it took her 5 min to come and talk to me. I have been coming to that store location since I got my dog in august. But no one cared or tried to reschedule, or let me know if there was another cancellation. Even taking another dog in my appointment and push me to later. I will not be returning to this Petco for grooming, food or anything else. They are not helpful and they don't really care if you are a loyal customer or not. read more

Out of all the Petco Groomer reviews in the Walnut Creek and Concord area, this location had the best reviews, so I decided to try it for my dog. 5/8/16 This review is solely on Rhys, the dog trainer for the puppy I classes. I have gone to another Petco (I will not disclose that location) and when I met the dog trainer, she informed me that she introduces a water bottle in her training classes. She reassured me that it doesn't harm the dog, but that it let's the dog no that what she/he has done is not good. For me personally, I don't feel comfortable what the water bottle method. When Petco was advertising 50% off their training classes, I was extremely hesitant due to the bad taste that was left in my mouth from the trainer that I spoke to at another location. I ended up signing up for the classes and give it a try since it was a great deal. When I had signed up, I had asked the store manager about the trainer who would be training my puppy and I had explained to him what my experience was at another Petco location. The store manager asked what location I went to (where I had the bad experience), but I told him that I didn't want to disclose that information (I didn't want to throw the trainer under the bus). He wanted to make sure that the trainer (I had a bad experience with) was not from the Walnut Creek location since that is where Rhys is from. I reassured him that it was not the Walnut Creek location. Today is my 5 going on 6 month Min Pin puppy's 4th class with Rhys. Rhys is amazing at what she does. She is very patient, gives tips and suggestions. Because of Rhys, I will be signing up for puppy II training classes. I always have many questions (I probably ask the same questions over and over again) since I have never owned a fur baby and Rhys is so patient with me. If anyone is looking for puppy training classes, I highly, highly recommend Rhys. Rhys truly teaches and believes in positive reinforcement. read more

Took my dog here today to get her nails trimmed and her anal glands expressed. I was extremely disappointed with the professionalism of the staff. One staff member Vicki, in particular was extremely rude and disrespectful. She also did not seem to know what she was doing when trimming my dogs nails. I watched from the glass window as she clumsily attempted to restrain my dog as though she had zero experience with handling animals. I also asked Vicki to update the vaccine records I brought along with me as I just had my other dog revaccinated a few days ago. Vicki kept saying they are already current and I had to explain to her three times that I just got them renewed and the vaccines in the computer expire in a few weeks. Vicki didn't seem to grasp this information and seemed to be spaced out and gave responses in a sarcastic tone. Vicki is an older woman but she seemed to be acting as if she were a teenager. I will never return with my dogs here as I was treated so unprofessionally. If Petco wants any continued business they need to replace Vicki immediately. read more

Had my dog groomed here by Kristen and I'm still trying to figure out what I could of possibly said to make her mad because it was so bad it seems to have been deliberate. My maltipoo was taken in with approx 3 inch hair and she was given specific instructions to leave it long. My dog came back with approx 1 inch but only on parts of her and uneven everywhere. Top knot was completely cut off and now has a mohawk. Instead of a puppy hygene shave she completely shaved her belly, halfway up her tail, and the insides of her back legs. From the back she looks like she has mange! I'm just praying she grows out quickly and needless to say, I will never go back! read more

I have been bringing my dog Mikey to this location for about 4 years, and he usually sees Kevin. Kevin does an excellent job of grooming Mikey. He has notes on the computer of how I like Mikey groomed, and he always go over it with me when we come in. The salon is always very clean, and all the staff are very friendly. I like that they do the grooming behind a large glass window, and I have been able to see that Mikey is very relaxed getting groomed. He is always in a hurry to get inside when we drive up read more

We used to be PET CO ONLY people. We no longer go to Pet Co and especially this one. MY DOG'S SNOUT WAS SNIPPED AND NO ONE CALLED TO LET US KNOW! It had been hours since we dropped off our 17 year old dog and hadn't heard from anyone. My husband then decides he better go and see what was going on. As he walked in people were rushing around and as he walks into the grooming area and asks for Fila, they come out with a towel held to her snout which is by now gushing blood. It was apparent that they could not take care of her there and my husband told them that he would take her to the vet. THEY SHOULD BE GLAD THAT I WAS NOT THE ONE WHO SHOWED UP BECAUSE I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SO CALM OR NICE. My poor baby was on painkillers for over 2 weeks and now has a chunk missing from her snout. CAN YOU IMAGINE? She cried for 2 days in pain and we were the ones who had to stand by and listen... I just can't believe that this happened and that no one called to let us know what was going on. On top of all this, no apology was made and no offers to make things right. AWFUL. HORRIBLE. NEVER EVER AGAIN. read more

Horrible customer service in grooming department. We had waited to get our dog groomed through the pandemic and she needed to have a groom. I arrived after finally being able to book an appointment (all grooming places are booked out for weeks because suddenly everyone is taking their dogs in for a groom). The individual who was to groom our dog refused to groom her because she had "too many mats". I have never had that problem with any groomer, at a Petco or otherwise. He informed me we would have to take our dog to the vet to remove the mats and offered no apology for the inconvenience. As well he was rude and his demeanor suggested judgement , that we somehow don't take care of our dog. Our dog is loved and is central to our family life. She accompanies us on hikes and , like most all dogs, was not groomed during the pandemic for safety reasons. The manager just offered an excuse and blew me off. Sorry, I am not coming back to your rude business. You've lost a customer. You should be explicit on your website that your dog may turned away for " too many mats"- if your staff don't have the expertise or don't want to bother with essential grooming, they shouldn't be in the business. And shame on you for belittling your customers. read more

My Brother in law was down from Sonora and wanted to get his dog Buster groomed. My Mom has her dog groomed at petsmart but he wanted petco. Big Mistake. He was leaving to go back to Sonora the next day and couldnt fight it. Buster was seen at his vet back home. Oh and the dog looked ridiculous and smelled like he didnt even have a bath. Not only is this place overpriced, the service is HORRIBLE! Every time I come in here there is no one around the cash register, the grooming area is fully staffed but there's usually no one else around. Since I go here on my lunch sometimes I have time and patience, other times I dont. Today was the last straw - the main office is next to the registers (I would assume so they can keep an eye on waiting customers, but Im obviously wrong) so when you "Wait here for the next available cashier" you're semi out of view so I went to wait AT the register. As I look to my right there sits a PetCo employee talking on the phone, staring straight at me. No "Hold on one minute" nothing - I stood there staring at him for at least five minutes before walking out. If you dont have time to take my money I dont have time to visit your store, plain and simple! RUDE! read more

Do not take your pet in for grooming under any circumstances, the animals are seriously mistreated. I had taken my dog to the previous location for years with no problem. Recently I dropped my dog off for his usually grooming visit and they called a few hours later and said he was ready. I walked in and the grooming salon was closed I found what seemed to be a teenage assit. manager and told him I was their to get my dog, he actually told me the groomer was on lunch and I would have to wait until he got back to get my dog WTF?? I explained my dog was already groomed and I was just their to pick him up and the kid suddenly starts spouting off that California state law requires everyone who works an 8 hour day to get a one hour lunch, again WTF?! I told him I don't care anyone can get my dog for me and he said "no" and walked away. Luckily they "groomer" was just walking back in, I got my dog and left. When we got home my dog was very skittish, and kept shaking and acted very nervous. I usually don't shop chain pet stores, but I usually have a decent experience when I do...except for this location of Petco. I was in Concord a couple months ago visiting relatives and took my mother with me to stock up on food. I usually spend $150/month for my large breed dogs, so when I got to the register and tried to pay with a $100 bill, the sales associate called over a manager who flippantly looked at the bill and said it was fake. Funny thing is, I had just gotten it from the bank! I asked, can you mark it with the pen that all other stores use? He told me that the bill was probably still fake even if the marker worked. What the hell?! As customers behind me started staring, he stopped listening to me and walked away. I'm not going to say that he was judging me by my appearance, but I am completely covered in tattoos. I feel his attitude towards my appearance was clearly reflected in his demeanor. I went to another bank right after this and they said, "there is nothing wrong with this bill". Thanks Petco for embarrassing me and trying to accuse me of criminal activity. I will NEVER shop at this or maybe any Petco again. **Looking at all the other reviews, seems this location of Petco has some serious management issues.** read more

My husband and I were considering buying a pet chameleon. Although this store sells chameleons, they did not have ONE person on their staff who could give us ANY information about what type of habitat set-up was appropriate for a chameleon, what products we would need as new owners, nothing. Every question I asked was met with the same answer: "Well, I guess that could work, I don't really know." In contrast, when we went over to Petsmart, we were immediately paired with an extremely helpful young lady who was herself a chameleon owner. She did not hesitate to show us all the relevant products we would need and spent lots of time answering our questions. Petco should NOT be selling animals that they have no knowledge about! Very poor service in the grooming station. Was standing at the counter waiting to be helped the only one in the room...another customer walks in with her dog and sits down. The employee walks out so I ask the customer if she would have been offended if she were there first and I walked in behind her and the employee helped me without taking care of her first and she of course replies yes and continues to make up excuses why things unfolded they way they did instead of saying, "this guy was here before me, you should help him first" After the customer exits I then speak to the employee and ask to speak to her boss!
