WHERE IS WHAT (2 stars) This is not my main Petco store but this was on my route and had to drop in to pick up something for my dog. I walked in and felt discombobulated as the stores setup was kind of not logistically well organized (as other Petco stores). Nobody was around to help look or find the items. Only employee I saw was busy at the register. Yet alot of people in the store shopping. I found some of the items I needed. Their open snack section where you can buy treats by the pound had 5 choices - not the choices I usually get at other Petco stores. Also wasn't very clean... snack mess everywhere around the area. I really want to give Petco 5 stars, but something is lacking at this store BIG time. I will start with the employees, they're all so nice, and they're doing what they can but they are clearly UNDER STAFFED! for the love of everything holly hire people! this is how employees get burned out. I have become familiar with a few of them because I'm here often, and as much as I tell myself I'm not coming back, I do because its the closest pet store to where I live. Your employees are GOLDEN, they're all very kind, help you out with a smile all the time. Now on to the store, its in disarray! a lot of the shelves are half empty, half of the isles are blocked by stocking carts, that are super heavy and blocking other shelves I need to get to, shopping carts dont fit in the isles because of the carts being all over the place. And honestly this seems like a safety hazard. If only it was properly stocked, and more organized this would really help with more customers as well as a better experience overall. I've been coming to this pet store since 2012, and I dont know what happened in the last year, its never been this bad. Management needs to do something about this for sure. read more

I had the best experience at Petco thanks to a super friendly employee, I believe her name was Claira. I was shopping for a friend and she was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely cared about helping me find the perfect products. She helped with suggesting the best foods and toys. She truly went above and beyond to ensure I had everything I needed. Where do I even begin. We took our dog for a bath/cut/grooming appointment. This is her 3rd visit to a petco grooming (and the last time). And we had so many issues. First of all, the lady checking us in (I believe her name is Noelle) is always rude. This is the second time she helps us and she is always short, answering matter-of-factly, not showing any sign of customer service. On our second bath appointment, she pointed out that our dog had pooped after the bath. Fair enough, so this time we ensured to give our pup plenty of walk time prior to her appointment to ensure this didn't happen again. For this third visit, she said it would take about 4 hrs. She calls after 2 hrs have passed and says that our pup gets nervous with the hair dryer and prompts her to poo. So why not towel dry then? She technically still has 2 more hrs to go or not? They just decided to give up easily on our pup. They didn't trim her paws, around the eye area, just bathed her and gave her to us all damped. I do not understand - why force the blow dryer to dry a dog when towels exist? Why the unenecessary stress on my pup? Sure they take longer, but this is why the appointment was supposed to take about 4 hrs to get my pup ready and they rushed it. My suspicion is that they took more appontments that they could handle and they rushed our service, which was really unfair. Needless to say, after coming back home I could tell my pup was not the same. It was heartbreaking to see her so down. Think about it, if the employees are grumpy and rude to our faces, then who knows how they treat our fur babies behind closed doors. The first time I took my pup to a petco grooming appointment we didn't experience any issues at all - in fact, the bath/groomer took about an hour AND she hand dried my pup with towels. Pup came home feeling like herself. However, this good experience was at the H St location, which is a little farther from me but it was a much more pleasant experience compared to my (2) poor experiences at petco in eastlake village marketplace. read more

My lovely cat absolutely loves the food from Petco and enjoys playing with their toys. We took our 15 year old Chihuahua to get a pedicure. The male staff that did her nails was friendly and professional. He was delicate with her tiny self and did a fantastic job. We have been coming to this store for a good while. We come here for our pitbull and gold fish. The kids enjoy looking around the shop to see what animals they have. Yesterday, we saw that they had a few reptiles, tarantulas, fish and birds. One instance I had a really positive experience was when I visited the shop looking for fish tank filters and ways to maintain cleanliness of our fish tank. One of the workers (I wish I got his name) was really helpful and professional. He not only gave me recommendations for items but also showed me how to use their aquarium gravel vacuum to clean fish tanks. I truly appreciate his time and effort. I use his tips to this day and clean our aquarium with ease. We bring our furbaby here for his grooming services. We usually get the bath, teeth brushing, nail trim & buff for him. We typically buy dog food here too. The staff at the grooming salon are pleasant and I noticed they typically are excited to receive our dog, and others too. I'm giving 4 stars because of our experience yesterday. We took our dog in for grooming services. They said it would take 2-3 hours. It took the grooming salon 4.5 hours to contact me that he's ready to be picked up. I had called a few times to get an update but no one answered the phone and my call went straight to voicemail. I would be inclined in understanding they're running behind because of being busy had I been able to talk to someone on the phone to get some sort of update. Overall, I'm satisfied with our experience here. We plan to continue using their services and visiting the store for other pet needs. read more

They are incredibly hard to work with. We took our dog in to get groomed. Because she previously had IVDD in her back and i disclosed that to information to them they wouldn't groom her. She's cleared by the doctor, plays, walks fine, goes to the bathroom by herself and they still wouldn't cut her hair. They were extremely rude. I will never go back to Petco for any pet needs. I took my dog today and Dr Abigail Arreola who attended me was the worst. I made this appointment one week ago for a routine full body check and vaccines. I clarified everything with the receptionist before coming. I gave my dog the appropriate amount of medication. When I arrived my dog did not want to wear a muzzle. I understand my dog needed a muzzle but the doctor's actions were appalling. She immediately became defensive and stated "do you want to get booked with another doctor?" And she looked visibly scared of my dog. He is 50 lbs and has lost half of his teeth. She spoke so harshly and unprofessionally. She didn't even have the most basic decency of introducing herself. She spoke over me and all she spoke about was making sure I was aware of how much I would be paying. I knew what I was there for and what they were going to do to my dog. It seemed like she didn't know what she was doing. She lacked so much confidence and lacked professionalism. I will never recommend anyone to go there for vet care. read more

I've been a regular at this Petco for grooming, but today was disappointing. I dropped my dog off and was told she'd be ready by 3 PM. Right on time, the groomer called to say she was ready but mentioned an extra fee because my dog was nervous. I was confused since she's been groomed here many times and I've never been charged that fee. When I asked about it, the groomer explained it was due to her being afraid of the water and blow dryer, which supposedly took extra time--yet she was done right on time? I asked to speak with the groomer when I got there to discuss the fee further and inquire about where this "nervous fee" policy was written because I've never heard of it before, again, I've gotten my dogs groomed here many times. The groomer had a bad attitude from the start, even sarcastically saying, "I can write it down for you," when I asked about the written policy. Eventually, he waived the fee but made it clear I'd be charged every time in the future. He also mentioned that other staff would groom my dog next time, which I thought was funny because: 1. Why would I want to work with you again? and 2. I won't be returning. I also spoke with the manager, Hector, who was equally unprofessional and offered no real solution. His response was dismissive and he kept talking over me, so I am starting to see why communication skills is so lacking at this location. I even had to feed a solution to the manager and suggest he train his employees on conflict resolution and basic communication skills. All around, the management and grooming department seem incompetent. Despite living nearby, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. The staff here lack professionalism and proper management. I'll also be following up with corporate about this experience because something needs to be done about the poor management and the lack of professionalism in the grooming department. read more

During covid, I've rescued two dogs. Cecilia has worked with both of them and done an AMAZING job with them. My first was straight from the shelter and was older overgrown, and imaciated. Cecelia was able to help shave her down to get rid of the mats in her fur and without any injury to her. She was also very patient letting her take breaks so she wouldn't feel overwhelmed. My second rescue has a bit of a rough past and doesn't like her feet or face touched. Cecelia was still able to do a great job with her! Big compliments to the rest of the staff as well - they've been very helpful in educating me on what I need and asked me about them when I would stop into the store without them. Thanks Petco! this location is beyond HORRIBLE i brought my dog in for his appointment at 12:00, the manager of the grooming department Monica looked at him and refused to take him bc he's "too matted" mind you the location on H street has taken him 3 times like this, she said the dog needs to go to the vet bc of his matting but that's literally why we're taking him to get a haircut and he's also only 11 months old? I see a lot of complaints about Monica in these reviews and i can see why. she so clearly hates her job. the matting is not bad and not to the point where he's irritated at all. they proceeded to get the manager Hector and he was literally no help either, he said he's too matted but it seems like their just a lazy location with lazy staff and just didn't wanna take the dog in. i booked this appointment 5 days ago and all they did was waste my time. The manager Monica asked "why are you so upset" as if they didn't just make me waste my time and not take my dog in. no wonder why this location has 2 stars on yelp. I ended up telling Hector that they have horrible costumer service and he told me to leave the store. I just called the unleashed location on H Street and they refuse to take my dog in as well because the manager at this East Lake petco location put in his notes that I apparently was yelling and cussed out the staff when literally none of that happened it's all fabricated I will be taking this up with corporate, because nobody cussed anyone out. Nobody was yelling. Yes, I was upset. Because I wasted my time, but nobody was screaming and cussing like how they said i apparently did in the notes. again my dog has been groomed by petco several times and I've never had this much trouble or this route of staff ever. I was extremely calm. No one's voices were raised. Nobody was yelling. There's a reason this location has a 2.5 star rating. Unprofessional, horrendous service at this location that makes me cringe just writing this review. Here's a one-star rant for your reading pleasure. Nobody treats my family like this...NO ONE. Last Saturday, we went to drop off our dog for a grooming only to be told that someone had called them to cancel the appointment. My niece had taken the day off and was completely taken aback at the rude encounter and stated that she did not cancel the appt. The girl that was helping us was snippy, condescending and completely dismissive of my niece. When she asked to talk to a manager, the girl claimed SHE was the manager. Way to shine with those awesome customer skills and lead by example, lady! NOT. It wasn't until my niece became visibly upset and had stated that her dog was actually her Grandfather's Emotional Support Animal did the rude "manager" even show a tiny bit of compassion. Her grandfather had just lost his wife to Stage 4 lung cancer and needed companionship after she passed. We literally just went to her funeral less than a week before and were hoping to surprise him and get his dog all cleaned up for Father's Day. No such luck at this hellish place. Thanks for causing my niece to miss a day of pay and for your utter disregard for your clients. Please work on your customer service skills and learn to treat people with respect. I really have no words at how appalling the level of unprofessionalism is at this place and cannot fathom why people like this are in the customer service industry. Never again. read more

I think as long as your not looking for pet food brand Whole Hearted you'll be fine. But it's been very difficult for us to find our dog food there. They are always out of chicken. Also, I was very disappointed to find out that Petco will still sell old expired dog food. I guess it was my fault for not checking the expiration dates. I bought the tri-pack of the whole hearted minced food and a few of the lamb & chicken dinners were completely rotten. Now I have to be extra precautious. read more

Stopped by here on 4th of July 2023 after needing a few essentials for a new puppy. The good: They seemed to be very well stock as I found everything I needed for a new puppy. Walked around and even their aquarium and terrariums was well stocked with everything you may need. The bad: Unfortunately I think this location is poorly managed. First let me start by saying I have been to more then a dozen pet store throughout San Diego and this is probably the worst when it comes to being organized and the place just reaks of a bad odor! From the moment you step in through the door you will understand what I mean by the smell. They have a lot of stock just sitting in the floor shelves unorganized and can be difficult if your searching for something in particular. read more

Took my short haired male toy poodle today for the first time. Not a good first time experience. Staff was not very friendly, they went through the services and of course tried to add "add ons" i did not request. When i made the appointment it was for bath, hair cut, extraction, nail trim.. etc. i made it clear that he was mildly matted behind the ears and on chest. When it was time to pick up my dog NOTHING was done just a bath for 40$ that i could have just done myself. He was still matted and they told me he was moving around... hard to believe. Every employee we asked for help had a horrible attitude and seemed miserable. First of, good luck finding anyone and second when you do, they will make you feel like an idiot for asking for help. My mom took our dog to the groomers here and when she came home mid day she slept the entire rest of the day which we thought was odd considering she's a young energetic dog. We both talked about how it seemed very likely she was drugged, a day later she was still acting funny when we noticed a huge slice to her private area which could have come from no other place but the groomers. When we called about it they said they reviewed the camera and that she was barking on camera in her kennel and must have gotten "tired " from barking all day, and then refused to take responsibility for the cut, gaslighting us about her injury and saying we could not prove she got it there! I'm unhappy because i thought after meeting one of the staff here she was very nice and thought my dog would be done soon. He was SUPPOSED to get everything done. His ear hair was not trimmed, the hair inside his ears was not plucked, turns out I took him to the vet a few days later and he had an infection. Very unhappy that not everything was done. The bandana was a nice touch. His appointment was at 12:15, my pup was not ready until 3 hours later. I don't like leaving him that long, what is the point of an appointment if he is going to sit in a kennel for no reason? So I asked "what if I book at your earliest appointment next time? Will he be done within 1-2 hours?" The groomer responded something like, "well we have a $12 fee we charge so your dog can be in and out and we work on him as fast as we can." The woman who made our puppy's "profile" by updating her vaccination records was so cold and unwelcoming. She definitely did not welcome any questions. We take our furbaby here very frequently to get groomed. Cecilia is the best groomer ever. She was patient with my high-energy dog and totally understanding of my not being able to brush my dog frequently (medical issues). Cecilia is a total gem. I just learned that she will be transferred to another Petco. I'm so sad and keeping my fingers crossed she won't be transferred. I go to Petco for Cecilia!
