GUYS. IB PET STORE IS THE BEST PLACE EVER. Like, seriously. I get so excited when I see the turn to go there, I start howling and barking and wiggling my tail like a maniac. My human's probably embarrassed, but I don't care. I KNOW where we're going, and I need to get there. When we walk in, I smell ALL THE THINGS. Treats, toys, food, more treats... it's heaven. I get so many treats. Different kinds. They're DELICIOUS. I like to sample a little bit of everything, because why not? My human is always busy looking around, but I'm on the job. I'm the treat connoisseur. So, here's the thing. After the store, we went to Rite Aid (don't know what that is, but who cares?). What I do know is that there was a bag of treats in the car. And guess what? I KNOW HOW TO OPEN BAGS. I'm very smart. Super sneaky. So when my human was gone, I made my move. I ate almost the whole bag. Oops. But it was so good, I couldn't help myself! Then, my human came back, and I was caught. BUT, I wasn't done. Oh no. I tried to sneak some more while they weren't looking. Yeah, I got caught again. I always passed by but never walked in. Picked up a dense Birthday treat for our bully. It was large enough to share with our other dog. I'll definitely be going back when I need treats for our fur babies. They have a good selection! They seemed to be busy. You guys have a new loyal costumer! First of, what a great little shop this is, conveniently located in a shopping center with plenty of parking, easy in and easy out, but once you're in, you dont want to leave. Everything is so properly stocked with plenty of very healthy food options for your feline friends (sorry cant speak on dog food), priced well, and super organized, even on my first visit, it was easy to find what we needed. So BRAVO! on having a great selection for cats that some big box stores fail to deliver. At the desk there is also samples that you can take for free to try out, and these are well sized sample packs of dry food. Their toy and snack selection are so well curated as well. NOW, the good part... I recently found out that they work with Whiskers without borders (in Imperial Beach) to help out for the care of all the little fosters that WOB has! How amazing is that! This makes me want to support this business even more for the fact that they are making such a great impact on cats and dogs alike who are in search of their forever home! With great humility, I am stepping way out of my comfort zone to honor this honor of the family owned business. Always covered by community, I found myself up the 52 pass the 8 freeway with no option but to sleep in my car. Waiting on money that is months late and evicted in an u orthodox manner. I have been sick since I was eight years old, one through over 10 years of dialysis every day for 12 hours a day since the age of 20 and thankfully have over five years with a kidney transplant that I look to honor the family and the person every day who granted me extended life. It's really hard for me to be such a successful and powerful person in my industry and in the world but not of the world. Right down to my knees and cut down more than I can explain.... making sure I wash my face and walk out in confidence as to remind the world that we can get through anything together rather than show my scares and lay in pity. The hardest thing was asking for help. IB pet granted me my Christmas miracle that I aspire to honor my writing in detail how they saved my day and lifted my heart in the hardest of times. This is a business that I believe represents some of the best of the "south bay culture" that I have grown up loving. Currently, spending many years north of the eight freeway as a originating Southbay San Diego outlier, it seems and feels as though I have almost forgotten the extent of how amazing our community is. Never a day goes by without me referencing how San Diego is truly represented in the Southbay! The thing is that I was a person that didn't have to come down south because my work and everything kept me pretty centralized or north of the eight freeway..... that is until just last Wednesday when a group of eight armed sheriffs came to evict me from my home. After receiving the government assistance and paid through May the prior property management sold without transferring our credits and there were so many people being evicted at once without proper notification. Leaving all that aside to be handled at a different time. My ESA dog is one of the most important things in my life and I was humbled and almost in disbelief when I was recommended to stop by his family on business who happily gave me high quality treats in some food to not only sustain the storm with my StormeE girl. I was told the business has a high standard for their products, and I trusted that up until I was looking for a chew for my dog and I saw a big ring made of pure rawhide. Great Small Family Owned Pet Store I love bringing my bichon her for his goodies prior to his vet visit next door. It relaxes him. The employees are so friendly and helpful. Nice atmosphere and clean! So nice to shop at a small family owned store. I go to the one on Telegraph Blvd. next door to the Veterinarians. After our visit to the Vet, we go back into the store to buy unscented 12" thick bully sticks. I like that there's a treat bar and not prepackaged. We get to choose the exact one we want. This is my go-to location for pet food and treats! My friend and I have been to multiple IB Pet locations in San Diego, and this one is the winner - the store is always very clean and well stocked, and every one of the employees is very friendly, helpful, and welcoming. We've always felt comfortable the entire time whenever we go there. They feature local customer's pets up on canvases on the wall - we met one of them (Tofu) there! Great selection of healthy and natural options across every category, and they make an effort to stock locally from local farms for products like goat's milk. Would love to see additional promotion of local products. They also have a really nice rewards program, and many of their brands have loyalty programs associated with them. This IB Pet was actually the only location we've been to that actually pointed out the rewards & loyalty programs - which was astonishing for us to learn about, given we had been to the Rancho San Diego location many times and had never been told about it previously - despite almost all of our typical purchases being eligible! I had been trying out a dog food here because I was looking for a fish-based formula for my dog, since she has been having skin issues. My partner went back to the store today to pick up a new bag, but I specified that I did not want the grain-free kind, because there was a study published in 2018 that linked grain-free diets to heart issues in dogs (The study is called "Taurine deficiency and dilated cardiomyopathy in golden retrievers fed commercial diets", by Kaplan et al, you can see it here: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0209112) The workers at the store told my partner they still advise grain-free diets (despite this being against the advice of my multiple veterinarians, including my dog's cardiologist). They stated that the study had a small sample size, and was funded by big dog food companies like Purina. I have heard pet store workers say things like this before, though they don't seem to have read the actual studies (and in some cases don't understand them). This study was NOT funded by dog food companies - the study clearly states there was no outside funding. It DID have a sample size slightly smaller than you'd usually want, but overall I was really unimpressed that the pet store worker(s) here would attempt to give medical advice against the orders of veterinarians, and without having apparently confirmed the statements they were making. read more

This is a pretty cool little store. I've been here several times. It's the second one that they have. They originate from Imperial Beach. The number one quality that this place has, is their customer service. They are always so friendly and courteous when I'm in to the store. It doesn't take them more than a few seconds to ask me if I need any help. And then they are always willing to walk me to get the products and explain thoroughly what each product contains how can benefit my 2 dogs. I have a senior dog and a puppy. One is a small breed and one is soon to be a large breed. So I always have lots of questions. And they are always more than willing to answer all my questions. To me customer service goes a long way on how a business is represented. Far as the products go, they have a lot of high-end quality products. It's not the stuff you will find at Walmart or Target. I like how it's not commercial pet food, and I feel like I'm buying what's good for my pet. They have a freezer with those who are wanting to transition to a raw diet for their pet. Took my Scooby-Doo in to poke around and also scope out their Canidae stock. I was pleasantly surprised to find the Pure grain-free dry dog food in salmon. It's been difficult as of late to find any Canidae products that are a little more obscure, shops will typically carry the Multi-Stage or larger canned foods of pate. My puppo is a wee bit on the picky side and prefers those harder to find Canidae food items, she makes life a little more interesting. I understand too, that Canidae has been having shipping/transportation difficulties due to COVID-19 impacts and with the inflation (thanks a lot Biden,) labor shortages etc... So it's expected with many a thing considered. The sales clerk was very friendly, and also super helpful with enrolling me into their loyalty program. I love that they do a military discount of 5%, and the shop owner is a Veteran. I'm glad I took the time to visit IB Pet, and I will continue to support this business. read more

Went here for the first time yesterday because I've been researching switching to a raw food diet for my miniature poodle and based on positive reviews, I decided to come here. The two ladies working greeted me and my dogs right away and didn't hesitate to ask me if I needed any help or have questions. We immediately started talking about my raw food options, how to feed, and suggested what other items I might like or look into. The store is definitely on the smaller side, but it's beautifully stocked with nothing but good stuff so it was pretty impressive despite the smaller store size. This location is pretty convenient right off the 805 freeway but parking is for sure a nightmare on the side this store is located in the strip mall. There's plenty of parking farther down the other side towards the highway. Making my purchase was terrific. They have a frequent buyer program where if I buy a certain amount of food, I get one free. Always a plus, and the prices were decent too! They even gave me other samples of other food to try which is the best ever because I definitely intend on switching the flavors up for my pup.
