Dear Petco Customer Service, I am writing to express my deep disappointment with the customer service I received at your location today at approximately 8:30 PM. In the 13 years I have been a loyal customer, I have never experienced such unprofessional and dismissive behavior. I was in line with my 4-year-old son, patiently waiting while Alberto engaged in a personal conversation with another customer for over 5 minutes. Since my son urgently needed to use the restroom, I politely said: "I'm sorry, but may I please pay so we can go?" Their discussion was not related to business--it was about what the customer's dog had eaten. Instead of assisting me, I was told I was being rude. Alberto later apologized to the previous customer, but still insisted that my request was "rude," even though I had clearly said "I'm sorry." This is unacceptable customer service. As a parent with a child who needed to use the restroom urgently, I should not have been dismissed or insulted for simply asking to complete my purchase quickly. Calling me rude for politely asking to pay and leave shows a complete lack of professionalism, empathy, and basic customer service standards. I love Petco and usually appreciate the care your team provides, but this experience left me shocked and upset. I hope you take this seriously and ensure better training so no other customer--especially one with a child--has to experience something like this again. I have been shopping in this Petco for a while and I am glad that they have a pet store in the area but it is second time that I ordered pick up and 2 of the items that were listed as " in stock" were canceled. Got here in the morning just in time to catch the "aquatic expert" on the floor. I needed a new mini fish tank and a brand new filter as my fishys keeps on going belly-up. Floor staff gave good recommendation and even informed me what types of snails may get rid of dirt and algae in the tank. He mentioned Algae eaters are not really meant to be in small tanks and wouldn't really clean the tank. I was actually looking into some Tetra's but staff said to go with the Guppies instead, and even gave me two baby snails for free. All the recommendations the staff gave- I took. So far, so good- my guppies are alive and well and those snails have grown so big now. Overall, this location has many items in stock read more

Okay , I usually come to this petco being as I have a lot of animals and always need something. Usually it's really well kept inside and the animals are flourishing... but today was a different story. The birds fish tanks didn't have their lights on and the fish Inside weren't even swimming . They were sitting in one spot , and some of the fish were even floating to the top. It was really , really sad . The beta fish are usually in small containers (I know) but they were so dirty and all of them looked 100% desperate for help. I had to leave and even forgot half the stuff I went for originally because I thought I was going to cry. Come on guys, you were doing so well. What happened ? Please do better guys. Also girls at register weren't working professionally, lots of cursing & gossiping . read more

For the "Basics", this place will have you covered. It has a wide variety of foods (but in low-stocked quantities on the shelves), treats (again, low-stocked), some toys, some beds, some live fish, aquarium accessories, a few live fuzzy-animals (chinchillas, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats...) and that's about it. Notice I didn't mention "Staff" ... That's because it was harder to find a staff member in this Petco than it is to find your keys when you've officially lost them. But this Petco does provide a $15/bath section, full grooming, Vetco Vet Petcare and has that kiosks for making name tags. Helpful Petco for those who have LOTS of patience or need the items that are ALWAYS stocked. Useless for those who have specific, rarely seen items they need. read more

This is absolutely the best Petco in all of NYC. Might be the newest as well. The staff is so friendly and willing to help. Everything is so clean and organized and everything about it is great. I really wanted to give it a 5 star, but the small pet section really disappointed me. I understand that dogs and cats are the most popular pets that people have, but the aisle for small pets was so small and not even 1/10 of the stuff they have. Since it was also small, the small pet section could've been on the first floor so it would've been easier to find and get to. I don't want to have to go upstairs for something when there aren't even many options to choose from. In short, the small pet section was hard to find and was disappointing when I found it. As for the staff, beyond amazing. An African American man with glasses greeted me when I walked in. He was so nice and greeted me with a huge smile. He really made me feel at home and welcomed to Petco. Definitely made me want to visit this Petco more frequently. When I had a question, he was walking over and gave me his full attention. He also helped me at the cash register. Forgot to get his name, but his energy and smile were just amazing that I had to write a review. tl;dr - amazing staff, clean and organized, small pet item selection is very limited and all the way in the back corner on the second floor. read more

After getting some relatively cheap (or cheaper than my usual vet) annual vaccines for my dog, I wanted to get my dog groomed. Couldn't take her the day of the vaccinations, no big deal, brought her back in 2 weeks later. The people who work at this Petco are friendly, but unfortunately that's about where the positivity ends. My partner and I joked about it, but we realized that both the first time and second time (on the second visit) we went up to the grooming center desk, the women working there immediately went to the back almost as if they wanted to ignore us. On both occasions another employee asked "are you being helped?" and shortly after the grooming center employees reappeared like magic. We did the grooming package with the works (honestly I forget which but it was about $80 for a bath, brushing, nail trim, paw balm, etc.) and we were really excited to have our dog's paws trimmed and cleaned. She does not require a haircut but she does need to be brushed out as she sheds a lot. After about 2 hours we were told we could pick her up. When we arrived they told us that she didn't like having her paws touched so they didn't trim them too much. That was pretty disappointing considering it was half of the purpose of the trip. At other grooming places they would just put a muzzle on and work quickly and help her relax; mind you she doesn't even bite (never has) but I understand being worried with a new dog. Unfortunately that meant her nails were hardly trimmed and she still had tufts of fur between her pads, though I will say the pads seemed softer and less rough. We started petting her and noticed that she still had plenty of excess fur coming off of her, as if they didn't brush her fur out.. but she did smell clean so at least there was that. The most concerning thing was that she also came out with a scrape on her hind leg. It wasn't dripping blood but it looked like she was definitely scraped by something while there because she didn't have this mark on her before. Overall it was a disappointing and unprofessional experience. I will take her back to the grooming place closer to my home and pay a little bit more for an immensely better experience. read more

This is only a review of the grooming. I have a 2 year old maltipoo and I admit I hadn't brushed him enough prior to his appointment. I get that. The groomers first said she could keep the hair on his face and tail. I dropped him off at 9am and they didn't finish with him until 4pm. I called 5 times around 12:30 (no answer) and even came back to the store around 1:30 and they told me it would be another 2 hours and my dog was "taking a break". When I picked my dog up he was shaved completely. Face, tail, everything. They shaved the whiskers on his face too, which is extremely unprofessional because dogs NEED THEIR WHISKERS. My dog has been shaking since I brought him home and had a cut under his chin. I called and left a voicemail for them because I want to know what happened and they didn't respond. Honestly I get that his hair would need to be cut low, but the lack of communication and professionalism baffles me. There's no reason for his whiskers to be cut. There's no reason for him to come back to me bleeding. And honestly after 3 hours with him they could have called to tell me it would be a long time for them to finish. When I came in for my appointment the trainer was nowhere to be found and my appointment wasn't even logged in their calendar, so the trainer who was there today couldn't even call me to tell me not to come in. That's an expensive mistake as it took me 2 cab rides to bring my puppy there and back. Looks like I'm not going to be using Petco's training services because this was a trial run for me to see how the trainers do with the dogs there. What a waste of time! read more

Really disorganized store. Half the signs are outdated and showing old deals from October when it's end of November. It's confusing for the customer. All the workers also don't know what's going on and are pretty unhelpful. So this Petco is very different with the upstairs and downstairs. Not really giving you to much room to move around. We do bring our dog here for a bath but we are looking for a new place. Its an open space so people just walk by stop and say your dog is so beautiful. One that's not my dog, its my child. I cook real meals for this kid. But since being back in NYC I forget how slow things can be sometimes. They are very slow here to get you checked in to wash your 4 legged kid. You have to bring all your shots records. They dont seem to like to look through them so help them get right to the ones they are asking for. Other than the bath I really don't know much about anything else, sorry. read more

When I got here with my dog, it was a huge line , the veterinarian said that she taking a lunch brake,unfortunately no one tell us about it. The store is huge but for the Vetco program they don't have any place for sit so you sit on the cement floor . I can't even give this any stars. I don't even know where to start. So my daughter bought a lizard from the store a beard dragon to be exact. So the sales guy gave here all this information that if she would have followed the lizard would have died. He said not to give him water he gets water from his food. The food he sold her wasn't the right food. He sold her sand as bedding and that was wrong it's a baby and when it eats it will eat sand and die. So the very next day I went to a shop that deals with reptiles (Brooklyn Pet Supply) they set me up with the right light the right bedding everything. I will never go to petco again. All the staff there want to make a sales goal and don't know the first thing about animals. Just want you to spend money. Even if is wrong. So after 265 dollars nothing was right. I booked this spot to take a break from paying $70 in my usual spot ( which does a phenomenal job ) I just wanted to see what was the rave about in petco. So I made an apt two weeks in advance for 11am, I get a text the night before if I can come in at 2pm, sure. The day of the apt the guy Simon, mentioned a few things that he wanted to do with him ( I assumed was covered in the full bath $45) apparently then I find out that my 12 lb shitzu has " long hair " lol alright, anyway 4.5 hours later my dog came out patchy and ugly, and I was charge $72 that was the price after an $18 discount for the whole Saturday wasted on this. Every weekend they have a Puppy Play for free. Recently opened (October 28th 2017). Offers everything the others petcos has to offer. Cats for adoption are right at the entrance. Althought it is smaller then units like on Union Square. Has a second floor with fishes, reptiles, area to bathe your dog, and is also where the vet clinic is located. With all respect for all representatives that I have met for all this time I came in Petco, I give Petco 2 stars. But what the heck is with fish department? I have been in few Petco stores and each time I saw the same problem - white fuzz almost in every aquarium and I am very dissapointed about the aftermath of it being in my tank. I sincerely don't know how to react to this petstore web. I have experienced so many troubles since the first day I bought my 20 gallon tank. And this day after 3 weeks using it all of my fish that I bought here have died. I know, I'm the beginner in this hobby so it's likely I might have done sth wrong, but I followed all rules and advices, cleansing the bottom, changing water, feeding the fish but all, ALL my 14 fishes have died for 2,5 weeks. All 2 goldfishes, 2 angelfishes, 10 danio, now they all passed off. I checked my water and employee said it was perfect. What is interesting, all fish I bought in another (not Petco) store are still alive and seem to feel good. I didn't start to think that these fish in Petco could be so weak... I thought I got them healthy. I'm shocked, I didn't expect, I tried to take care in the best way and now I hesitate should I return all this stuff related to aquarium or not. I cried a lot because I felt that it is my fault, but might fish who are living in good conditions experience death? Poor fish, poor Petco. And I see how many people complained the same. I see the same coplaint as mine what was posted a long long years ago, in 2006, what's the matter?! Why this web is not closed now, I don't understand. They are at the Sunset Park location twice a week but they are worth any wait. Am trying the puppy training and am really happy with the results. So glad I found it. I made an appointment this morning on short notice for my sick cat at this Vetco location for three o'clock. This location is about 30 minutes drive from me. I was on my way to the appointment but got stuck on the belt due to an accident. I got to the appointment at 3:15 and to my surprise I was treated with no sympathy whatsoever for my sick cat. I was told that they had a ten minute grace period which I had exceeded for 5 minutes. I was totally fine to wait since I was a little late and the traffic on the belt parkway was something that was totally out of my control. I could not believe what i heard, and the excuse the technician gave me was even worse. He said the vet could not see my cat because I missed my appointment by 5 minutes grace period and also, they would leave early today. They called another customer to come 15 minutes earlier in front of me but they couldn't see my sick cat because they didn't have time. I cannot believe that someone in this line of work could be so cold and heartless towards a sick animal. In this line of business there should surely be more compassion involved since they are dealing with pets lives. They made me leaving the store crying with my sick cat. Thanks to #Vetco read more

The groomer was not good a was deceiving she told us our puppy had dry skin and tried to sell us oils. I called my vet while she groomed my puppy. My vet told us not to buy anything she offered because we do not know if my puppy would have a bad reaction to what she was offering. I decided to make an appointment with my vet. We had our appointment today and my puppy is healthy and does not have dry skin. I have been bringing my dog to this petco for grooming the last 3 years and the most recent experience I had was so bad that I had to leave a review. I brought my almost 15 year old Bichon in for a grooming. She was in bad shape, but as I dropped her off at 8:30 in the morning, I said she had to be ready by 5:30 with a little laugh, thinking that was a ridiculous amount of time and that surely she'd be done sooner. I told the groomer (one I hadn't met before) that if she could be brushed out, that would be ideal, but because it was so bad, o.k. if they needed to shave her. I went to work and forgot she was there. Tried calling at 4:30 to check the status, no answer. Went over at 5:23 and saw that my dog was chained up in the grooming area, howling, barking, crying and looked awful. The groomer said she was going to be another 15 minutes and wasn't exactly friendly. I had to go pick up my kids and come back to get her. This place kept my dog there for over 9 hours and in the end, just shaved her whole body. Even her tail. Maybe I'm a bad pet owner for letting her get so matted, (have been bringing her every 6-8 weeks this year) but in the end, please don't torture my dog by keeping her there all day. I'd prefer communication and a quick decision to just shave her rather that tie her up and let her get upset. I think the experience was really hard on her- she had two accidents in our apartment that week which is highly unusual. Be careful bringing your dog here. They might be there all day with no communication. Will not return to this groomer. read more

Just really wish they carry more options for Wellness. i still have to go to Petsmart on Atlantic for his wet food. The worst grooming experience EVER!!!! Save your money and avoid stress. Go ANYWHERE else. I took my pup for a haircut and discussed hair length. We wanted it longer but because he had some areas of matting (private area and left leg) a shorter length was discussed. Not as short as the groomer decided was necessary. I brushed him out the day before so it was possible to brush him out. Plus I didn't think they'd shave ALL of him. Just the slightly matted area. Also, I could have shaved those pieces off myself. They later asked if I wanted his nails buffed and I said yes. They said it would be an extra $5.00. Funny how they mentioned that but conveniently forgot to mention that if they shaved him the price would go from $65 to $95!!!! I got a phone call after 2 hours (so I wouldn't be surprised) that shaving him is going to cost more. I asked if they already did it because I'd tell them no. They said he's already shaved. I rush over there and his body is shaved but his head and feet were still fluffy. What pissed me off even more is that after I handed him back to finish his feet and head she CONTINUED to shave his body even more. Also shifty shaving for having my dog there 4 hours!!!! Will not visit their clinic again. I brought in my dog to be microchipped - It was a fast and easy process, but upon leaving I noticed a nasty scratch with bruising around it about an inch on his lower abdomen that I can only assume came from the tech holding him very tight to keep him on the table, as he did not come into contact with anything else which could have made this type of mark. It seems mostly superficial and he doesn't appear to be in pain from it but on principal I doubt I would ever go back to a place where they feel the need to be so rough to hold a very small 12 lb dog in place. read more

Go to this Petco if you'd like the private security hired by either Industry City or Costco to put a huge orange tow sticker on your car once you've parked in the designated 45 min parking spots once you step in to shop for your pet. I was in for 10 minutes to buy cat food and came out to this huge sticker placed on my car by this company. I approached the gentleman responsible, inquired as to why it was placed and they refused to remove the sticker now stuck on my car, requiring more time to remove than I was even IN the Petco. They claimed I was parked illegally. For 10 minutes. In the Petco shopper parking spot. I am never going back as no one takes accountability for this irresponsible practice and I certainly won't risk being stickered again. read more
