Simon created a warm and safe atmosphere, mindful of Henry's tendency toward anxiety in unfamiliar settings. Simon demonstrated exceptional attentiveness by reviewing Henry's specific requirements in advance and ensuring VIP care. Furthermore, Simon proactively contacted me prior to Henry's appointment to inquire if an earlier time could be arranged, and he explicitly conveyed that no dog should be hurried--an aspect I greatly appreciated. When I arrived, Simon checked us in and reviewed Henry's vaccination records to ensure everything was up to date. I appreciated his dedication to safety, as such carefulness regarding the safety and health of pets and staff is uncommon today. I really valued Simon's thoroughness! He often updated me via text message--an available communication feature at Petco--and was receptive to my suggestions for handling Henry's sensitivity. When I arrived early for Henry's pick-up, Simon graciously informed me that Henry needed additional grooming and invited me to watch, which I found especially thoughtful. Following; I was let in once he swooped back around once I knocked he asked if I had an appointment, no good morning, no hello. He let me in with the groomer once I said yes. I can tell from all of the reviews and from what she told me during this visit.. there would be an up charge from $98 dollars to $200 due to my dog being matted. I liked Petco up until January of this year. I spent over $270 here and brought home two guinea pigs with everything they could ever want. The largest cage in the store (I was charged $100, even though it was available for pick-up at $85 BEFORE the 10% discount, so I was overcharged), hides, hay, chews, food, ect. I had the pigs a week and kept calling Petco after a few days. HUGE hassle getting an employee on the phone. When I did, I told them the pigs were sneezing a lot and had to be sick. The "companion care card" I was given said something to the effect of: if any vet care is needed within the first 30 days, a contracted Petco vet will provide it. The card does NOT mention the whole nonsense of: "we can only treat them if you return them for a refund so they can be under our care and not yours." They're mine. I bought them. You promised vet care. What the hell? Ok, so against my better judgement, I take them in on 2/1 and the manager tells me she'll call me with an update on Monday. She finds us wondering around the store a few minutes later looking for items to buy, because I did tell her. "They're mine and I want them, so call me when they're better." She did a great act of asking me questions like, "Should I call this number? Ok, if no one answers, should I leave a voicemail or keep calling?" She pretended to care. So she sees us in the aisle after I return my boys and she says it's ringworm and that it would explain the issues I was noticing. Ringworm causing excessive sneezing and snot covered noses? Riiiiight. She told us she'd take them to a vet if she noticed they got worse, but here's the thing. You promised a customer vet care, then made me return my pet so I could no longer be a customer, and then didn't call me back to get the boys. She never called us. Took them back on 2/1 and no update as of now. I did call *her* four days after I took them in, but she claimed not to remember me. I had to say quite a bit to "jog" her memory. Which is funny... When I was calling, calling, calling while they were home with me, we'd spoken on the phone. The first time, she gave me a vet's number and immediately hung up. Um, what? So I called back and kindly asked for the number again, since I'd missed the last two numbers. She said, "oh, ok" and repeated it. This vet turned out to only treat cats and dogs. So I called back and no answer for hours. When I finally reach her again the next day, she tried telling me about a vet (Armory Cat & Dog on Kingsbridge). I stopped her right there and said, "Nope, I already called there and they only treat cats and dogs. I bought guinea pigs." She sighed and asked me to repeat the problem I'd been having with them... then sprung that "return them for a refund and see the other pigs we have here" ultimatum on me. But when I walked into the store and requested her, she knew who I was from how much we spoke on the phone... Four days later, you magically forgot? I didn't think it was fair to make me pay at least $240 in vet bills ($120 just to walk in to Avian and Exotics for each pig) when you promised a healthy animal and vet care if they weren't. So yes, I took them back. Yes, I waited a month for a call to come buy them again that never came. Shame on Petco. Shame on this manager. Reprimand and re-train her please. She needs it, especially for the sake of your business. Also, they claim to seek guinea pigs between 4-6 months old. Another lie. They receive them at 8 weeks from breeders. I ended up adopting two last week since I had all this guinea pig stuff and no piggies. One is six months and the other is 3 weeks old... the 3 week old is the same size as the boys were. read more

I use to go to Jessica but everyone loves her and she booked a busy. I was a loyal customer bringing my dogs for grooming but once my groomer changed ( due to staff coming and going ). During Covid service started to take extra hours out your day. I would drop my dog off early and then 5 hours later they will call and say hey we have no hot water you want to pick up your dog and come tomorrow which occurred a few times. Another incident they had my baby for 8 hours only to tell me to come back tomorrow to finish nails and teeth. My last and final straw is when I had a 1pm appointment and they called at 7pm to say they are now just giving her bath which is ridiculous. Then someone else called at 8pm rude as hell to say come pick up my dog there closing. When i arrived they were grooming my dog and another customers dog who also had a 1pm appointment in the dark. Nobody in the store could turn on the lights in the grooming section. I'm asking who called my house and was so rude knowing my dog been there longer then some of the workers shift. The website scheduler for grooming doesn't work for this locations I can schedule at the upper west side but no matter what options I select for this one, it says to call. I called at least a dozen times. It the only time I got anyone to answer the call got disconnected as I was confirming the date. I never could get anyone on the phone again. I tried to buy a clipper from them and just groom my dog myself, but there's nothing on the shelves and the guys I asked didn't know where they would be. Every time i come here to buy to buy food for my dogs or toys for my bunny you barely see any staff on the floor. I've never had a problem at this Petco until I went this past weekend to reup on food for my puppy. She eats Just Food for Dogs, which is a fresh food that only this Petco carries in the Bronx. I walk in and immediately see a huge load of shipment sitting in front of the fridge where I need to get her food. I wave down an associate and ask if this could be moved slightly just so I can get into the fridge. The worker goes on to say that this can't be moved (which yes it did look heavy and looked like it needed machinery to move). She said they are in the process of unloading shipment throughout the store and I should "come back later". Come back later???? When??? You don't know my schedule or my ability to go back and forth waiting for the reps to unload the shipment. I continued to see if there was any way it could be moved, and the associate got nastier by the minute, saying I had to come back and added "they've been here since 5AM unloading boxes". Which sorry, isn't my problem. I let out a big woosah because it's a new year and I didn't want to cause a scene but this was a major inconvenience. I even DID "come back later" and the shipment was still blocking the fridge. I've worked in retail and I completely understand those hectic days but my suggestion would be ONE: teach your associates some manners and TWO: DON'T PUT SHIPMENT IN FRONT OF A FOOD FRIDGE WHERE IT CAN'T BE MOVED THEN GET NASTY WITH THE CUSTOMER WHO IS TRYING TO MAKE A PURCHASE IN THE ONLY PETCO IN THE BRONX WHERE I CAN GET THIS FOOD!!!! He's really great with dogs and has a genuine love and respect for animals. THIS WAS THE WORST GROOMING EXPERIENCE WE HAVE EVER HAD. We made an appointment with MELISSA over a month ago for 2 PM today. We arrived on time and were told it would take about 3 - 4 hours. I received a call from MELISSA about three hours later stating my dog needed to be taken lower due to mats. We comb and brush our labradoodle regularly, but due to his extremely curly coat, he knots easily. We agreed it was okay to take him lower, but we showed a picture of what we wanted. At 7 PM we saw that not only was our dog not finished, but the manager (a Latino young woman) came out to tell us that our dog's skin was no longer be brushed, so they were not going to finish his cut and we would have to bring him back. OUTRAGEOUS! The truth is the store had closed and she was obviously ready to leave. Our dog had no skin irritation at all. So now we have to find a groomer tomorrow to try to fix the horrific job the RIVERDALE PETCO/MELISSA, did on our baby who is less than one year and only getting groomed for the second time. I'm writng because someone at PetCo took advantage of an elderly person with severe disabilities who recently purchased at cat at Petco for $125. The person, my 66 year old brother, claims he was willing to pay this (what I consiider) exorbitant price because the employee who serve him and his companion assured him he would pick the cat up and take it for it's shots, saving the couple the expense and inconvenience of having to do this themselves. My brother says he called the shop several times in order to have this resolved and failed to get any kind of response, let alone assurance that this would be taken care of as promised. To me it sounds like he and his companion were taken advantage of and deliverd heartache and a load of mistrust. As far as details, no, they unfortunately didn't get the name of the individual they dealt with, but here I am, 3,000 miles away, disgusted that they'll need to spend money they don't have, in order to keep "Midnight" healthy. I walked in the store and went straight to the hamster section because my son has been wanting one so we pick out everything needed I proceeded to crystal since she was the only one available at the moment. So my BF goes to look for her and she is standing by the door so he asks her to come over and another 5-10 minutes go by no crystal. I took my dog for grooming in December, 2021. I was told she got a "nick while grooming. I asked if she was bleeding and was told no. I get there and can clearly see that she was bleeding. I went straight to the vet thereafter and was told, "this is not as bad as it looks, but its not a nick, please allow us to shave around it and close it up. I was forever grateful. This is a terrible place to shop. Two weeks ago, I placed an online order and went to the store to pick it up. After a 20" wait before being acknowledged, my order was delivered to me 10 minutes later. Not even a "Sorry for the wait." There appeared to be three employees in the entire store. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I assumed that perhaps someone had called in and they were therefore short staffed. Today placed an online order almost 5 hours ago for a few cans of cat food - nothing complicated. Not only is the order still not ready, I have called four times from a landline. The first time, the call went unanswered until it was disconnected. The next three times someone picked up and immediately hung up. That included the one time that I opted for the curbside pickup option...good thing I wasn't waiting at the curb! One more way to know that there's not enough help...the store is poorly maintained and the last time I was there I watched an employee just saunter past dog poop by one of the displays of food. The parking lot for this store is ridiculously busy and there rarely are any spots. Multiple cars roll through seeking parking in vain for the many businesses that share this small lot. Find another pet supply vendor. This one fails miserably on multiple accounts. UPDATE to my review above. After failing to contact anyone at the store by phone, I called the toll-free 877 number for PetCo and was told that my order was ready to be picked up. Upon reaching the store (no answer to the phone calls so therefore no curbside pickup) I found that nothing had ever been done to assemble the order. The sales clerk called the manager who said that there had been a problem with emails being forwarded (although the tablet used by the cashier had all of the information). When I pointed out that I had unsuccessfully tried to call the store on multiple occasions he responded, "We're very busy." The manager assembled the order, brought it to the front of the store and instructed the cashier to "give him a bag." At no point throughout my entire contact with the manager was there any mention of regret for any inconvenience or apology for the stores inability to fulfill their promise of 2 hour curbside pickup. The cashier was kind enough to bag the order for me and tried to be helpful throughout. One more thing...as I was waiting by the register an older patron purchased some cat food and wanted to return an item that she had bought before. She was directed to a posted sign that stated that due to Covid the store was not accepting any returns nor issuing any refunds (according to the clerk until after the pandemic). I called the store at 7:00pm asking if they have Red Ear Sliders the guy replies "yep we have plenty" I asked how big he paused for about 10 secs then said "3-4 inches" I said thank you and hung up I was on 231st for that phone call the store is on 237th why is that in the short time it took me to walk 6 blocks there were magically no turtles in the building then the employees are just nonchalant and disrespectful upon arriving I didn't see any turtles in the tank but it was 7:10 so I'm like maybe they put the reptiles away early. I asked the cashier for help he says someone is coming to help 10 mins passed no one, I go back to the front and ask again another 10 mins no one. Eventually I kinda just asked the worker I saw passing with a cart of fish(passed by 6-7 times). I ask him to assist with the turtles he says okay. Initially I start walking to the back then I realize wait where am I going there are no turtles in the tank I gesture for him to lead the way he then got an attitude and said I'm following you, don't you know what you want ? So I shrug it off and go to the turtle tank he then stands there staring at me with a blank look so I ask "um can I get two sliders" he then points to the empty tank and says "there are none as you can see" so why did the person on the phone tell me you had plenty "idk when you called but there were sliders in the building today" I just spoke to someone less than twenty minutes ago "you're lying there were sliders in the building today but im not sure when you called" like I said I spoke to that guy in the front(I remember the voice) less than 20 minutes ago "again there were sliders in the building today idk when you called" I know he can't stop customers from buying animals but there's no way you go from "yep we have PLENTY" to none at all in 10 minutes and then the employee needs to learn how to speak to people read more

Grooming Department: My favorite groomer is Johanna. She is really great with the puppies and does a wonderful job. Overall the store is very clean and well taken care of. Customer service here is terrible!! I wish I could give zero stars. The employees all seemed bothered to answer your questions or even help. I have used this groomer at this location a number of times. Their work is hit or miss. Getting an appointment is a nightmare! No one will answer the calls and when you take the time out of your day to go there in person the staff speaks to the costumers as if they are doing them favors even making the appointments. While I was there I saw that someone's dog had an accident in the store and pointed it out to an employee attempted to hand me a roll paper towels and told me they could get me a mop as well. Although amused, I pointed out that it wasn't MY dog and that I did not work there. That was the final straw for me I have continued to come to this location because it was closest to my home but that ends today. I rather take the drive elsewhere than give one more dollar to this store. read more

No one ever picks up the phone. I called several times throughout the day and no one answers. This applies to the general line, as well as the grooming line. To avoid people from driving all the way over to the location, learn to pick up the phone. read more

purchased fish here yesterday evening to wake up to them all dead the this morning. extremely upset having spent almost $50 hoping to get a refund and not hear the fish dying is my fault. upon bringing them home they were swimming slanted and rolling upside down with white fungus on mouth and fins. read more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! You need to be responsible and update your online inventory. I bought my dog's food online, went to the store to pick it up only to find out "it was not available". This happened to me TWICE within a 3-month period. The first time I walked 40 min. to the store in the middle of a heavy rainfall. By the time I got there you had sent me an email and reversed the payment, but it was too late because I left for the store as soon as my order was accepted, besides I didn't have my wallet with me so I had to go home and start a new transaction all over. Your lack of attention and responsibility updating your inventory makes me feel, as a customer, that you don't show empathy and don't care about our valuable time and satisfaction. With the problems that businesses are facing, I don't think you want to see your customers go to the competition. If I could give this store zero stars, I would. read more
