It was bizarre. As I said, our dog has never had a problem at any other daycare except DD. They forced me to leave work in the middle of the day to come get him. (I think because of their insecurities and failure to listen to our instructions.) In short, we don't trust them and our dog hated it there. I think they're fine if your dog is easy but there are much better places, at better rates, in the area.

I have brought in my very energetic (and deaf) Australian Shepherd in for daycare as well as boarding. I was worried that his deafness would be a problem, as many other facilities told me they were not trained to handle him. Meghan immediately did research and told me it would be no problem! I have no worries when I send him there. They send detailed email updates, as well as take pictures on facebook to show the dogs are doing, which is a nice reassurance. The also send home a daily report card when you pick up your pet detailing their stay (very cute). The facility is impeccably clean (a must) and open to allow dogs maximum play space. In addition to daycare, they host practical training workshops for pet owners that end up being very individualized. In addition, they have recently opened their doors to the bully project, an organization that offers free obedience classes to owners of pit bulls and similar breeds. This truly shows an attachment to the community and its needs. I would absolutely recommend Doggedly Devoted to anyone in the city

I've spent years filming the highly skilled trainers at Best Friends Animal Society working with challenging dogs but found myself HUGELY unprepared for the madness that apparently comes 'long with a puppy. I was wrangling unsuccessfully with my pup's terrible leash manners outside Blue Bottle coffee shop on the UWS when dog trainer Alison Magoon appeared out of nowhere with a card, (like an angel sent by the Universe), asking if I needed help from a trainer, and I was like, "why yes, that's been on my list of things to do." After only four sessions, Alison taught us some very practical skills and techniques to help make things infinitely more manageable. She's a fantastic teacher, uses only positive reinforcement training (which is perfect for us - unlike Cesar Milan's method, dominance aversion, which is disavowed by the AVA), super professional, super smart, and followed up with detailed emails outlining other pertinent tips and to dos. Super organized - has a great website to set up appointments and arrives on time and gets right to work and is super buttoned up and efficient. I also really appreciate about her that she aims to actually help you get to the point where she's not needed anymore, versus keeping her on ad infinitum, forever. Thank you, Alison. You are ONE OF THE BEST.

I chose Gabriel to train my new rescue, Scrappy, after reading quite literally hundreds of…read moreimpressive five-star reviews across several platforms. After working with him, I can confidently say that those reviews were not an exaggeration. We worked with Gabriel through both individual sessions in our home and board-and-train. From our very first meeting, it was obvious that his approach goes far beyond what others offer. Gabriel is a behaviorist who focuses on understanding the psychology and emotional state behind a dog's behavior beyond simply teaching commands or correcting unwanted behaviors. One of the most impressive things about working with him is how quickly he can read a dog and understand what is actually driving their behavior. Before choosing Gabriel, I met with several other trainers. They charged hundreds of dollars just to assess Scrappy, and those evaluations largely consisted of provoking reactions and then explaining how they could address the problems later in training. Gabriel took a completely different approach. Within seconds of meeting Scrappy, he was already working with him. In the first session, Gabriel had my nervous little dog, who we had thought was possibly people and dog reactive, off-leash walking around with big dogs and welcoming greetings from their owners. The board-and-train was also an excellent experience. I really appreciated knowing that Scrappy was not only receiving high-level training but was also being cared for by Gabriel and his family. It was clear that they made his well-being a priority, which gave me peace of mind while he was away. Gabriel sent daily video updates. Scrappy's confidence, reactivity, resource guarding, impulse control, and recall all improved significantly during his time with Gabriel. Just as importantly, Gabriel taught us how to continue the work at home. We definitely still have work to do on our end, but Gabriel gave us an excellent foundation and the tools to keep moving forward. Gabriel is exceptionally committed to the dogs he works with. Even though we are not currently meeting regularly with him, he is available to answer follow-up questions and provide guidance when needed. It is also clear that he wants the owners of the dogs he trains to be self-sufficient. One thing that really stood out to me is how flexible and creative Gabriel is in his approach. It's clear that his background in jazz has influenced the way he works--he's incredibly adaptable, thinks on his feet, and seems to instinctively know when to change course based on what the dog is giving him in the moment. Nothing feels scripted or one-size-fits-all. He has a remarkable ability to improvise, problem-solve, and find the right approach in real time, which I think is a huge part of what makes him so effective. Gabriel truly went above and beyond for Scrappy, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. If you are looking for a trainer in the New York area who understands dogs on a deeper level and genuinely cares about their long-term success and well-being, I highly recommend Gabriel and Pawmos Training.

Thankfully, my fiancé and I were recommended to Elizabeth & DIW and it was the best thing that happened to us in 2020. I called Elizabeth a month prior to getting our mini goldendoodle, Mookie, and she was so warm, knowledgeable and immediately put my nerves to rest. She helped us prepare for our new puppy and left no question unanswered. Once we got Mookie, we immediately dove into 1:1 virtual training. Her virtual sessions are awesome (and really effective)! Elizabeth shows you how to best train & manage your dog with positive reinforcement. Before the lesson begins, she always opens up the session with conversation to get a pulse check on Mookie and answers any questions we may have had since we last met. In addition to the 1:1 training, DIW's play&train sessions are absolutely perfect for puppy socialization. We dropped off (perfect for COVID times) Mookie 1-2 times a week for 4x hour sessions which were supervised by the kindest, most professional trainers I've ever met (shout out to Roshni & Julia). Mookie was able to play with similar aged pups and get training reinforcement from what he had been practicing at home from his time with Elizabeth. Win win! And what's even better is they send adorable videos and pics each session. Mookie always gets compliments on how sweet and well-behaved he is for his age. He loves other dogs and people. And we can't thank Elizabeth & DIW enough for that. Elizabeth and her team really do care about each pup that attends DIW and become an extended family & support system for you and your pup. It's beyond exceptional. Highly recommended! One more note. Elizabeth is more than just a trainer. She is a guru, a friend and confidante when she enters your life. In addition to training, she also prepped my fiancé and I on how to move cross country with Mookie and put our mind at ease with any & all concerns. I'm happy to say, we're very happy in our new home.

The package we purchased offered 4 virtual classes. The first class went over quite well; Elizabeth recommended we make lickies (wetspaw toppls) and use a stick (bully sticks) to help keep our dog occupied during the day. Both are great suggestions which we continue to use months later. Scheduling for the next few classes did not prove easy, Elizabeth needed to cancel the second training session, and due to some responsiveness problems we weren't ever able to get time on the books for another date. We ended up just finding a different in-person one-on-one training option which logistically has proven easier and yielded great results. Despite not making use of the virtual training classes we were able to frequently make use of the in person "Play and Train" classes offered for puppies. What an incredible service, the Dog Institute employees do a fantastic job providing a safe space for puppies to interract and grow their social skills. Without question the best service offered by this business, our pup is comfortable around all dogs now thanks to these early interractions. We had also been working individually with some wonderful institute employees to help board our pup based on their availabilty but this caused some complications as the business required that all such services be routed through the school for payment purposes. When push came to shove, what should have been an easy interaction between individuals got complicated when the business insisted on getting involved; the payment structure requested seemed to change each time and was definitely not commensurate with market rate. Overall a few negative issues hurt what would otherwise be a positive experience.

Book your appointments early! He books up quick (he's that great). He is also very personale which is a huge plus. During our consultation he immediately told me that three sessions would be the best package based off of the information I told him. I appreciated his honesty and he the fact he did not try to upsell me. During the first 10/15 minutes of meeting our pup, he provided his diagnosis. Not only that, he taught us something that corrected one of his behaviors before the end of the session. His first session was December 2020. We followed the instructions from the first session until his second session in February 2021. At first the appointments being spread out concerned us but, as soon as he came over, it was seamless and we picked up where we left off. He taught us more techniques and made it clear he was available for any questions until the next session. He implemented effective changes that were easy to teach and transferrable in addressing different behaviors. Todd completed his final session this month and the overall differences are notable. He addressed hand shyness, when company comes over, leash and collar changes, better obedience (shibas are stubborn), walking techniques, reactions/reinforcements, as well as better play techniques. I have already recommended him to a friend. Book him, you won't regret it!

My girlfriend and I contacted Dominik for some help with our 1.5 year old goldendoodle, Benny…read more Benny is a great dog but after training him ourselves for the first year or so we still needed to clean up a few areas of concern. We asked Dominik for help with the following: - Leash training. Despite trying to train basic leash skills with Benny it often felt like my girlfriend & I were out on a walk WITH HIM as opposed to the other way around. When he smelled or saw something interesting (plants, trees, stop signs, NYC street food aka chicken bones) he would quickly divert his path to go check that thing out & it would take us quite a bit of convincing to get him back at our side & walking again. - Reactivity to other dogs, and sometimes children, on the street. Benny would typically lay down prone when passing other dogs or children on bikes/scooters, encouraging them to come up to him, and then he would quickly pop up to say hello - sometimes startling the other dog and/or owner. We wanted him to stop with the laying down in the middle of the sidewalk & stop quickly popping up to say hello. - Reactivity to guests (expected or not) & delivery people. Benny would bark and growl anytime someone approached our front door or entered the house. Dominik helped us understand some of the bad habits we were utilizing as handlers and how they played into some of the behaviors we wanted to correct. Since working with Dominik Benny no longer lays down on the street to greet other dogs; he's still very curious and will look in their direction but he remains at our side without breaking stride. Along those lines, our walks are much more enjoyable now that he is obedient on leash, listens to our commands, and maintains eye contact/attention on us throughout our walks. Lastly, our final session was yesterday and we worked specifically on reactivity to unexpected guests and by utilizing place training + a positive reward system Benny was no longer growling at our friend who was there to act as a guest for the training session. Dominik also helped us work on off-leash recall skills & a proper heel position. Not only did he help us become better dog parents; he also helped Benny to be more confident when in new scenarios & improved his overall obedience. Dominik also introduced us to some tools that we were not familiar with (slip lead, clicker training, place board) and somewhat uncomfortable with before he taught us the proper techniques to utilize them (prong collar). We'll be utilizing all of these tools moving forward as they have been a massive aid. After 6 sessions with Dominik we feel more informed, prepared, & confident in continuing Benny's training. We can't thank Dominik enough.
