Our 7 month old mini-Doubledoodle Merman has had it rough. He broke a paw at 10 weeks, and re-broke it at 16 weeks. As a result, he spent a lot of his puppyhood in a cast, unable to play, walk, learn, or socialize with other dogs in a normal way. Thank GOODNESS for Dani, Urban K-9 and their amazing trainer McClain, who started working with Merman between casts, and who took him home for puppy training for two weeks! Merman came home 24 hours ago, and we really feel he has turned an incredible corner from sad puppyhood to big dog fun!! He sleeps in his crate without a whimper. He heels with an auto-sit when we stop walking. He sits, stays, responds to off, down, and place -- all amazingly helpful. He seems happier and more engaged, and really just thrilled to be a puppy bouncing around Brooklyn! Our neighbors are AMAZED. Thank you thank you!!!

My husband and I adopted Bowie from a rescue when he was just over 1 year old. At first, he seemed like the perfect dog, but as happens often, once he was comfortable with us some bad behavior cropped up - lunging at dogs and people on the street, not coming when called, tugging on the leash - culminating in him nipping a stranger on the street. I grew up with dogs all my life, watched a lot of Caesar Milan, Solid K9 and other dog training videos, but it wasn't clicking and having a dog in the city is an entirely different animal. Cue Dani! She showed us all the fundamentals - how to use a prong collar, place command, down stay, voice recognition, recall - that put Bowie back on track. He's an even better version of himself. We also got our confidence back walking him and his record has been clean since! She also was great about coming to us in Hoboken too. Don't wait too long like we did until things escalate if you have issues - get a great trainer like Dani ASAP!

Dani and the Urban K9 team are as good as it gets! Our beautiful Ruby joined the family when she was 8 weeks old and so did Dani. Dani guided us thru every phase while diligently training Ruby to be pure joy. We could not have done it without Dani! Thank you, Dani!

Happy, out for a walk, loose lead!

My sister and I are two Oregon transplants living in Brooklyn. We grew up around large dogs and when we decided to get a dog, we knew we wanted to stick to a larger, sporting breed. We also knew it would require a lot of time and commitment to keep him happy and healthy, but we were ready and willing. What we weren't prepared for was what it took to raise a happy, healthy, well-mannered dog in NYC. It's a whole different ball game. Working with a dog trainer was a foreign concept for us, but at the ripe age of six months we knew we needed help. We met with a few trainers along the way. There were a variety to choose from, but not many who seemed to have a ton of training and background in the profession. It was almost like the stumbled into it instead of having a proven and trusted background and commitment to learning and teaching others about dog behavior and training techniques. (Let alone hire people to work for them that have certification and training). Until we met Dani! When we first met with her she just "got us," understood our frustrations, knew our goals and was very honest about what needed to be done. We can say, without question, if it hadn't been for the foundational skills Deacon (our dog) and WE learned through the initial two-week board and train, we would not be the happy household we are today. He had a habit of lunging at joggers, scavenging for "street treats," jumping up, nipping, pulling on walks, barking at skateboards - you name it, he probably did it. He was a puppy, but he was slowly taking over. Knowing that this 20lb fuzzball was going to be a 63lb, muscular dog we knew all this needed to change. In two short weeks, and with the follow up training sessions, Dani helped us re-establish order and hierarchy. She trained him on the foundational skills, then trained US to reinforce the rules and set expectations for him. Reminding us (always) that just being cute isn't enough to get away with improper behavior. And showing us that he could do a lot more than we were asking of him. After the board and train, we were all much calmer. He loved his crate, he stayed in his place (bed) when we ate dinner, he didn't lunge at joggers, he knew there were rules and that he was expected follow them. Overall, he was a happier dog, and we are much calmer and happier household. Over the next 18 months we have continued working with Dani on obedience and recall. In fact, when we are at the park or dog runs, we are repeatedly told by other dog owners how amazed they are at our ability to call him off of dogs, toys, or rowdy behavior. He's even been used as the 'example dog' during some other courses as to what a good recall looks like. Talk about being a proud parent! This week Deacon successfully received his very first TWO titles for the AKC's Canine Good Citizen Program both the CGC, and the advanced CGCA!!! He did so well that after the evaluation one of the dog owners in the class was asking another trainer "How can we get our dog to behave like that big red one?!?" I can trace it all back to the foundation that Dani help us set and her ongoing commitment to training Deacon and US!! I would highly recommend Dani and her team at Urban K9 - including the amazing Rain - if you have any behavior issues with your dog or not! We should all continually be learning how to be better dog owners. Thanks Dani!!

I travel frequently, and it's always been such a dilemma: Who's going to watch her? Do I bring someone into my home? Do I take her to my kids' house? And then there's the guilt--why am I not taking her with me? I miss her terribly when I'm away, sometimes even feel heartbroken. I think so many of us feel this way about our pets. That all changed when I found Woofs 'n Whiskers. I truly cannot say enough about how wonderful they are. They have two locations, both perfect for different needs. I live in Brooklyn Heights and use their smaller Warren Street location for daycare--it's incredibly convenient. Their other location has a large yard, an amazing staff, and is ideal for boarding. What really stands out is how well they know and care for each dog. They know every dog by name, they maintain clear and thoughtful rules, and my dog absolutely loves going there. She's stayed for as long as three weeks when I travel, and I also use them for shorter daycare visits--whether it's a couple of hours, a half day, or a full day. This business is so accommodating and well run. For example, I recently went to Florida and had a nightmare getting home--delayed for four days due to weather and travel issues. I emailed them, and within minutes I got a response: "Don't worry--we have Buddy. We'll get whatever food she needs. Stay as long as you need." They were flexible when I needed to extend, and equally flexible when my plans changed again. When I finally picked her up, she was happy, relaxed, and smelled amazing--they had given her a bath! This has completely lifted a huge burden off my shoulders. I no longer feel guilty when I travel because I know she is safe, cared for, and genuinely happy. I don't usually write reviews, but I felt compelled to share this. I highly, highly recommend them. Try them--you won't regret it.

This is not something that Milo receives every time he plays with other dogs. If this is what they seem as "normal" I cannot even fathom to think what a severe incident would like under their business practice. Woofs n' Whiskers downplayed the severity of the situation by informing our emergency contact that everything was fine and that Milo was now receiving extra "love and attention". This was not a minor accident. The injury was so extensive that the vet surgeon had to take skin graft from Milo's inner thigh in order to close the wound. Woofs 'n Whiskers tried to minimize the incident by covering up the evidence and intentionally left our questions unaddressed. After initially agreeing to share the video footage of the incident, they later reneged on their word and refused to provide the evidence they initially promised due to "privacy concerns" There is no legally recognized doctrine of confidentiality or privacy applicable to the identity of a domestic animal under New York or federal law. As such, the facility cannot lawfully withhold the identity of the dog responsible for injuring my pet, Milo, under the guise of 'confidentiality.' Their final response? They declared the matter "closed" and refused to provide any further information or accountability -- while accusing us of being hostile for simply demanding answers about our injured family member. Milo required emergency surgery and is thankfully on the road to recovery. But this could have been avoided with proper supervision, transparency, and care. And through all of this -- they never once apologized for what happened to our dog.

My pups are almost 2 and 3 years old now and Gabby has been their groomer for their entire lives. Gabby is patient, talented and overall a dope human. My babies are always so well taken care of and always look so fresh and fly whenever they come from seeing Gabby. I became a mom to a human baby this year and naturally fell off for a little while in terms of grooming my pups at home in between their appointments with Gabby (breastfeeding, sleep deprived mom here). Although I would beat myself up (thanks mom guilt), Gabby never made me feel like a horrible dog mom. In fact, Gabby has been supportive, understanding and very patient while I got back on track with my pups. Now, Gabby stays booked and busy so sometimes I have the urge to gatekeep her, but I know that's not fair. So I'm writing this post for other loving dog (& cat) parents out there who are looking for a trustworthy groomer who also does a phenomenal job. Also, Liz at the front desk is a gem! She's also been so supportive and helpful with getting my pups in and out the door for their appointments and helping me pre-book their appointments. I've watched her multi-task on more than one occasion and she never misses a beat. The other groomers in the shop are always polite and friendly too looking up to briefly say hello/acknowledge you which makes this place feel warm and inviting. Also, like with everything else the prices went up ever so slightly which at first I was like :-/ but then I walked into the spa yesterday and saw they updated the space and it made me feel better. As a regular customer, you notice when a business takes pride in itself vs those that "let themselves go" and it was refreshing and reassuring to see that the location had been spruced up. The white walls were boring and drab before but now they have an adorable design that reflects a good energy. Our fur babies are our heartbeats and our lifeline for many of us and the new design reflects that vibe. Keep up the good work, ALC!!!

Jenny was very easy to work with and setup a meet and greet with Jeffrey (my 4month old Goldendoodle) and her son Christian. My walker, Stan, is SO professional and awesome. He updates his Instagram with photos and an insta story during every walk so you can see footage of your baby running around and playing. It's awesome! During Jeffrey's first walk, we had a mini crisis with a faulty apartment key (my fault). Jenny and Stan were super professional, and brought Jeffrey to a nearby Paws & Rec sitter's house until I could run from work to pick him up. I was so thankful Jeffrey was in safe hands! They didn't even charge me for all their extra effort. I really couldn't recommend Paws & Rec more. Zorba has been going there for 7 or 8 months now, and I was surprised at how quickly they became familiar with him - even to recognizing him in the street. Zorba had an injury at one point (not from WC) and they were understanding and flexible with our daycare schedule. The facility is spacious by NYC standards and the space is always clean. I panicked for a moment but then he ran right towards Wag Club and sat in front of the door. Doh. Stephanie took great care of him while I went back to the cab to get my things.
