Today was the first day I went into the Petco in Bastrop after they did their latest remodel. It is very confusing when you first walk in. I'm really not sure what all of the areas separated by glass are for, and there wasn't anyone around to help. I was looking for something specific for my dog, but never could find an associate walking around in the store. There were no customers at the checkout counter so I was walking up to the girl there and she turned away and walked into the back. I thought that was kind of rude so I waited. But after a couple of minutes I gave up and left the store. I hate that is the only big pet store in town and I guess I will try some of the smaller locally owned ones. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I went in today to buy a fish. A one inch black moor. The staffer asked what size aquarium i have. I said a 20 gallon. She said that's too small and refused to sell me the fish. I couldn't believe it. I told her I also have a larger one. She literally called me a liar. At that point I asked to speak to the manager. She said she was the manager and would not sell me the fish. I've been doing business with Petco for 20 years but I will never walk through their doors again. I don't like being called a liar. I have deleted the Petco app from my phone. I strongly advise others to do the same. read more

They didn't give me an issue about returning it, however I asked when I should see the return on my credit card and the answer was "I don't know that information". Is this the new catch phrase here? Took my dog to get groomed here today only to pick her up this afternoon with untrimmed feet. I specifically asked when I dropped her off to please make sure her feet, the hair was trimmed along with a sanitary. I asked if the groomer could take care of it while I was there only to be met with she wasn't certified to do that. Then what are you certified to do, in a groomers office!!! I won't be going back. **1-Star Review for Petco Bastrop** I took my dog to Petco Bastrop to be groomed. My dog has anxiety and takes medication for it. When I informed the groomer about his medication, they refused to groom him, claiming it was against company policy. I asked to see this policy, and the groomer called another employee, Darrel, who was extremely rude and said he had no obligation to show me the policy. He outright refused to groom my dog and showed me the door. I called corporate, hoping for clarification, but they also couldn't provide me a copy of this so-called "policy," stating it's an internal policy only. This policy isn't posted anywhere in the store or on their website. Darrel clearly needs to find another job or undergo extensive training on how to work with customers. This experience was incredibly frustrating and unprofessional. Avoid this location if you care about how you and your pet are treated. read more

I do not like their current groomer. She is condescending and always says she dis the best she could and there are clumps of hair sticking out between the toes. Paid for Face, fanny & feet. Only cut the top of the feet and not the pads. Did not touch face or fanny at all and paid full price. I have tried this place 4 times and have never been satisfied. I'm aware that not everyone is educated on EMF radiation but when I asked "Sterling" to stop pointing scanner towards me, he continued to do it! I think if you ask someone to stop, they should stop! I then asked him if he knew about EMF radiation and he said "I do t want to engage in that conversation" that was ok with me, but he then still tried to point the scanner at me. Very happy with the sessions my rescue dog and I have had with the Bastrop Petco positive trainer Linda Carson, who really knows dogs. We did the puppy class, which was great , but then the pandemic interrupted things. Since then we've been doing individual sessions with Linda, and our dog has made so much progress , not only with commands like sit, stay, wait, place and walking nicely on a leash, but also getting comfortable with new people & situations. Went to check out the fish at this store. I dare not buy any out of the tanks. The tanks were not taken care of at all. So cloudy you couldn't even see the fish. The Betta's! They were in really poor shape. At least 7 dead and a few more dying in the tiny little little water containers they were in. It absolutely broke my heart to see the shape they were in. I could only afford to save one of the little guys. Their conditions were deplorable! They need not be selling fish because it's apparent they cannot and will not care for them properly. We went to the front to get someone to help us and he said give if you wanna wait I could get someone over their never happened. We ended up getting only betas because no one showed up and the guy said he can't because their was only two guys and they both had to be at the counter but one of them was doing a mobile order. I've never left a bad review before, so to preface, this took a lot for me to download yelp and say. My wife and I decided to bring our puppy to PetCo for her routine grooming, deciding that for her final cut before we moved that we wanted to go somewhere other than the mom and pop shop to get her haircut and groomed. My wife made the appointment and the day arrived to take her in for grooming, and IMMEDIATELY we were met with a terrible negative attitude from the so called "groomer". This lady was a short, mean, disdainful little clump of anger from the moment we walked in. She hardly acknowledged us, and the entire time it seemed that she went out of her way to make us feel like an annoyance and an inconvenience to her. She told us that she was going to have to shave our poor puppy down to the SKIN, and when I protested and asked why, stating that we were moving to ALASKA in FEBRUARY, she became argumentative and refused to elaborate. After weighing the options in my head, I realized that we didn't have time to shop around or go to another groomer before we moved and that we'd simply have to bite the bullet and let this demon of a lady groom our puppy. Big mistake that was. Our puppy is completely uneven all over, the lady shaved off the top of her hair and left her face long, and there's little scratch marks all over our puppy's body. If you have any sense in you, or any love for your pet at all, DO NOT ALLOW THESE PEOPLE TO "GROOM" YOUR PET. These people have zero empathy toward animals and there's no way in hell that groomer is licensed. not to mention, it costed $113, the mom and pop shop we go to is $70-$80. read more

Took my 2 Doxies to Petco grooming. Marie was the groomer and did an excellent job. Devil-pup just needed a toenail clip which was accomplished without blood or yelps (I cannot do her as she starts to struggle as soon as she sees nail scissors) Price reasonable at $11. My old girl needed the works.. bath, comb out, nails. Did a great job. Also reasonable. I will be back. No complaints. read more

Expensive pricing on products, stopped to get Cosequin for my cat(18 yrs old), price was $32 for 60 capsules. Got same exact Cosequin from Amazon but twice as much for $32. Big markup on products. Also, they run out of items that they aren't getting a big marketing deal on as far as foods for animals, if it's not part of their marketing drive they seem to let stocks of non-marketing products dissipate even though they may be popular products such as IAMS or Royal Canin in favor of stuff nobody has ever heard of. I have just started ordering from Amazon, cheaper and I know I can get what I need. Update: Went into Petco today, found Laxatone at $13, Amazon lists is at $6.99. Told cashier, cashier says Petco doesn't price. match Amazon, said have to find another website to price match. Guess what? Chewy.com lists Laxatone for $6.99. Petco... you're overcharging for a lot of items, guess I need to stay out permanently and I recommend others save money by going elsewhere. read more

I have been mostly satisfied with the grooming. However. In one instance, they didn't trim their nails and I had to have the veterinarian do it. Second, I do not appreciate your cashier announcing to all WHY he THINKS my card was declined. Don't ever assume anything. It was rude. Finally, I just had them in there this week. I have a 7 month old puppy. Twice in the recent past I had to remind them that he was young enough for the puppy package. This past visit, they didn't have the courage to tell me that once he is older than six months, the amount goes up. Just tell me. I took my dog in for a grooming. His regular groomer no longer works there, so he got another one. After 3 hours I got a call they had cut his tongue and had stopped the bleeding. They also would not continue the grooming and I needed to pick him up. I went immediately and the groomer and the manager repeated the story. I took him home immediately, could not find anything wrong with his tongue thankfully and he ate and drank and licked with his usual energy. What they didn't tell me was the 4 razor burns, one of which is worse the second day. The area around his neck had 3 cuts clear to his skin. The 4th razor burn was on his shoulder. It was the lying and omissions that really decided me to write this. I mean, mistakes can happen, but not the horrible haircut and razor burns and not the lies and omissions. read more

The people who work here should be trained better. A displayed baby bearded dragon showed signs of MBD and no one seemed slightly concerned. No access to proper lighting to mention, with several large piles of poop in the cage left uncleared. Little to no customer service - I walked around the store for about 30 minutes prior to being asked if I needed help with anything. While I was there, a small child was allowed to buy a chameleon and selected a desert setup for it. I was eavesdropping, I admit, but the pet care associate was not advising against the purchase. Perhaps they didn't make the connection between buying a chameleon and an enclosure in the same visit, but the family was very clearly buying the setup with the idea of housing a chameleon. I spoke with the cashier before I left with my purchase to warn her that they were buying the wrong enclosure but she just stared at me blankly in between checking her phone and smacking her gum. read more

Awful. Simply awful. My dog was supposed to get their bath service which includes a nail trim and brushing. It's incredibly obvious that they never brushed her and they cut one nail too short causing there to be blood all over her paw, leg, and even our leash which they didn't bother to wash off. The woman then had the nerve to complain about her being "nippy." If you can't do your job correctly and hurt a dog, what do you expect? This whole ridiculous debacle also took over three hours and my dog is still upset. Don't bother with their "grooming". You're better off doing it yourself. read more

Check your dog to be sure he or she was bathed if you pay for haircut and bath. I honestly don't think they clean anything if they shave your dog. Our dog's ears were filthy and we paid $85. You would think we could smell a small amount of spritz or soap. In any case, we bring him back after inspecting him in the car. The groomer spends 30 seconds wetting his ears with a sponge, ears still dirty. He's a white dog! You can see the dirt. Never returning again. read more

Dogs came home not smelling clean like they'd been to a groomer. Both of our dogs coats were unevenly shaved and patchy. Both dogs paws weren't cleaned out as requested. One paw on one of our dogs was completely missed. Tufts of hair on each dog were completely missed. The face of our shihtzu was very ununiform. The time frames they gave us (twice) were wrong and the staff wasn't very helpful. For the price, I'll stick to a local groomer who takes half the time and both dogs actually look decent. I took my puppy to see Sarah in grooming, she took care of my 50lb standard poodle puppy's first haircut. Phoenix is barely 8 months old. The girls in grooming didn't mind her bad behavior one bit Phoenix has no manners and will jump all over you and playfully bite because she is a puppy & was with dog sitters most of summer. They loved her like their own. When I went to pick her up, I realized I'd forgotten my wallet and panicked. I live over 25 minutes away, and making the trip is a huge inconvenience. The ladies recommended Apple Pay, which I couldn't get set up after multiple calls with my bank and Apple. The ladies told me not to worry and just come back and pay another day. Not even tomorrow, another day. I paid this morning, but they weren't rushing me. They are amazing. I couldn't be more pleased with my experience. Phoenix is my 4th standard poodles, and I was previously a groomer so I have very high standards and I've had my share of bad experiences. Not to mention my wild child's terrible behavior.
