In fact, I don't appreciate any shop that alienates my husband--who's also the one buying product on my behalf. He's in his final semester of school before defending his dissertation and obviously loves the written word. But between sage piles for exorcising spirits to stacked candles meant for exorcising whatever is straight in a man, I felt there was a vibe of anger and resentment in a room that should've been welcoming, given the warm fairy lights framing the children's section. Feminism sits in a collage of frames on the lower ceiling, but it felt as fake as the plastic casing it. Books should be a safe place for everyone, without bias. Men and women are not on this earth to constantly compete against each other but to complement one another. We won't be back again, nor will our children.

The inventory is continually cycling so each week you can find something new. Although the store is small, it is very aesthetic and clean. The bright lights and white shelves help make the space feel very open. I love the tables that display the books!! My favorite part has to be the quick survey. It's connected to a book counter that shows the count of books that have found new home, in real time! They also take donations so I don't have to worry about not having space for my new books. I'm excited to see how this place grows in the coming months!

I came back for two days in a row to chat to the wonderful lady working there about books, travel, and the quad cities (we both are familiar with this area). She was SO passionate about this shop and the selection of books, her outlook felt contagious and I couldn't help but be giddy through the many aisles in the basement after she described the amount of variety down there. I personally enjoyed the upstairs mystery selection. Being that they have the largest influx of mystery books, they give you two for the price of one! A deal if you ask me. I ended up finding two mystery books and a Fear Street book (I collect these) all for the price of $6! She even included free bookish stickers. It was fabulous. Inside, the offerings range from the more conventional like pottery, hand-drawn cards and candles. To the more unique like hand-drawn figures overlaid with real flowers and butterfly wings. In the very back, they have an extended area of art along with a limited but healthy selection of plants - today, I spotted a rare albo type. And of course, lots of Colorado-themed pieces, our favourite! The owner, Lauren, was super friendly and knowledgeable about all the artists she supports in her store, with fun anecdotes about the artists themselves or how pieces were developed. My favourites were block prints by an artist named Jini Kimchi and sculptures made from home-grown cordyceps spores (I forget the artist's name but will add here later).
