This is a really great pet store located in the St. Laurent mall, it's pretty small but they have a good selection of food and live pets. So, I like dogs. No, understatement, I LOVE dogs. Every time I'm at the St. Laurent mall I come into this pet store and freak people out by talking to the dogs like they are babies. The staff have always been really friendly and helpful, they give good advice and seem to know the store pretty well. They have a reasonable return policy and I had to return a cat carrier here once and it was very simple, they returned it even though we put my cat in it for a few minutes. They always have the cutest little puppies for sale, they cost A LOT, but I made sure to ask and they purchase them from reputable breeders and are against puppy mills. So please make sure you know where your furry friends are coming from! Don't support puppy mills! The puppies always seem happy and playful, which is a good sign when buying a puppy. Went in ready to buy a kitten and they did not have the animal's papers. The warranty they wanted me to sign upon purchase states that it would only be effective once the animal's paperwork is received by the client, so I backed out of the sale. I requested that I be called once the paperwork was available and I never heard back from anyone. I was refused contact with the manager and the staff was mixed (some helpful and nice, some not - they also don't seem to be well trained). I walked past the store today and the kitten is still sitting in her cage, unsold. I've never been to a pet store who refused to give me papers for a pet that I was ready to pay for then and there. Ridiculous. The smell in this store isn't the only thing that won't have me coming back. read more

I was going to bring a snail back to find a better home. I get there telling her I wanted to give him back for another home. She said "we don't take pets back." She didn't even give me a reason why... So I asked well what should I do with him? She said "you can flush it or throw it out" yep! They actually told me to KILL the animal!!! I was in shock... So upset... Knowing that they would do that to their pets. I'm glad I know now that they support animal abuse. You can tell they don't take care of their pets... The hamster and mice are in a small small tank...and there will be 10 of them in there. The puppies are put in a small box like cage. If you try and make them happy through the glass they ignore you and just look depressed and sleep. There's only holes drilled through the wood so I'm worried they don't have a good air source in that box... I feel so bad for the animals here... DONT GO HERE. They are terrible to the animals. I bought a pair of mice from them. Sexed them when I got home. Turns out, one is male, one is female. Called the store, and the employee was very defensive, saying they do not guarantee gender, and that they wouldn't take one back as they had already left the store. Not only do I not want to return one, I just called to see how long they were in together, so I could figure out if the female is pregnant. They've been together for some time now. Very unhappy. I can forgive a regular pet store employee for not sexing or knowing how to sex a mouse, but they should have someone who knows a thing or two about mice working there, like a manager. As it stands, where I wanted to get two same sex mice, so I could house them together, I now have two, and anywhere from 3-14 more coming over the next month that will have to be housed in singles or groups of two or three depending on the gender of the babies.. read more

I bought a few rats here. While they were some of the friendliest rats I had ever bought, they were infested with lice. I thought the first time was a fluke, she infested the older rat I put her in with. The poor thing was COVERED in them,to the point that they were coming off on my clothing when i held her. 140$ vet bill later, free and clear. When that girl passed, I decided to go back and get two boys, why not, Oreo was friendly. I ended up with a dumbo and a naked. Realize after i get home and find more of the little creeps on me that the dumbo was infested with lice as well. Not to mention both of them had respiratory infections at the time of purchase (so 250$ vet bill for them). The second time I knew it wasn't a fluke. I called to let the associates know they had lice 'oh yeah we'll check on it'. I don't know if anything came of it or if they changed their ways because i switched back to buying Petsmart. I don't think the rats are handled as much but they know their stuff there. Their animals are vet approved and except for one who developed an abscess later in her life I have never had to take one of their rats to a vet. read more

I bought a puppy from this store a few weeks ago. They didn't have his medical records in the store with him at the time of purchase which I thought was strange. I had to fight to get them, but I eventually did get them. I think it's ridiculous that they make you buy a bag of dog food from their store when you buy a puppy that is already crazy expensive! They should be giving it to customers for free. It would also be nice to have a little profile on the dog - where he came from, size and breed of parents, etc. read more

Store closed but staff moved to Bayshore! If I would of known this sooner, I WOULD HAVE NEVER BOUGHT A PET FROM HERE!!!! Over the Christmas holidays I had bought myself a bird (cockatiel), the lady was very nice and very informative... I was a first time bird owner and I've asked all the possible questions to be well informed and did some research on my own. The day I go to buy this bird, their debit machine wasn't working so I had to pay cash. 300$ (yikes) Anyways, I was told the bird was 3 months old and top shape healthy. I bought him on the 27th of December and the bird was actually quiet, heard him chirp a few times but was always fluffed up and sitting on my shoulders when I had him home with me and not really interested in anything else. January 1st, the bird had already gotten into routine of greeting me at the cage in the morning and hanging out with me an hour before bed. I remember I had came home later that day and went to see Coco (my bird) and saw he wasn't acting himself... he stumbled his way to get on to the perch and when I had open his cage and laid my hand out in front of him, he tripped on the door of the cage right into my hand. So I tried to comfort him and he fell asleep. I proceeded to put him back in his cage but he couldn't stand on his legs. LONG STORY short, I brought him to the vet 15 minutes later in sheer panic being a new bird mom, thinking the worst is that he had broken or sprained a leg. Coco died 10 minutes later. Turns out he had a "spinal cord injury" from multiple falls and that silly trip on the cage was the cherry on top of all of this. Also, turns out he had a pretty bad liver infection (from his poop colour) as the vet explained. I called Pet World (3 days later, I was so devastated) at the Bayshore location (since that's where the St-Laurent staff were relocated) and I spoke with the lady who had sold me the bird. I had asked first if the bird had any health conditions before I had gotten him and she said "No, he's in perfect health and I was the only one really dealing with the birds and him in particularly" so then I proceeded to say that my bird had passed away and explained to her what the vet said and she became totally quiet. No sympathies and I couldn't get my refund back or a possible bird. "There's no health guarantee when you purchase an animal". I had hung up. Too devastated, my little bird that I had loved so much died and Petworld took my 300$ with no remorse. read more

Worst shop ever. I went to get a fish, it was a fantail. I bought the food the filter, everything. Then, once I'm out of the store with the fish and everything, I get home to find out my fish is going to grow over 2 feet in less then 2 months! I know that I should have done some research, but the employee didn't even ask if I had a tank at all! You don't give a fish to anyone! Now I have a fish that's eventually going to grow over a foot long, and now I need to buy a 200$ new tank for it! I regret getting my service at this shop and it will never happen again. My first pet experience has been a disaster and they don't even want to talk about it when I called! So if you're someone with an intention of buying a pet of any kind, pet world is NOT the place for good service. I would put a quarter of a star, but I don't know if I can.. read more
