I was lucky of enough to offer one of the rescue kitties his forever home. The staff loved and cared for my sweet boy and even a year later I went in with my mom and they remembered him and asked about the cut in his ear. I have been shopping there since they opened. I mainly purchase 15kg bags of kitty litter which I then put into my cart. In ten years they have offered to help me two, maybe three times. I am 65 in good health, with no infirmities, but that aside, helping customers with heavy goods should be SOP. It is not. The last time I was there a twenty something male watched me carry the bags to the counter, then watched as I loaded my cart. Just I was putting the last bag in the cart he asked, "Do you want a hand with that?" "Not at this point no." Other than that they are reasonably good and will answer questions. They also stopped taking cats for adoption. I asked why and was told, "It's too much trouble". read more

If my morkie could write this review, she would probably score Healthy Pets more than 5/5. I would go far as saying that she would claim that this is her favourite pet store bar none. I make a point to walk her here at least once a week as a "treat", and smart as she is, she always seems to know when we are heading this way. Even when we are just passing by, she would stop at the right door and insist we go in (although sometimes we can't because it's closed - something she doesn't quite understand). A few times, when we walk out with nothing (very rarely, unfortunately), she would refuse to leave, or if we have already stepped out of the establishment, she would refuse to walk. So fair warning if you bring your dog ... they might not want to leave. In terms of product, they have most of everything that we normally need, including top-rated kibble, tuff toys (our dog is a chew monster), shampoo, accessories (lifevests, slings) - you name it. Staff are also knowledgeable and can provide you with options if you need them. They will also always ask if they can give your dog a treat - and because they provide those yummy irresistible liver treats - really, there's very little reason to say no. They also do nailcutting in the back (on certain days) and if you plan to buy food there, they have a deal where you "buy x amount of kibble bags and you get the nth one for free". Personally, I don't find prices that much different from other pet stores and I find that they do carry better brands than PetSmart. There are other great independent pet stores in the area as well (like Pet Circus further up Bank or at Westboro, there's Masters and Dogs) but we like the layout of Healthy Pets (seems roomier somehow) and just the general friendliness of staff (if not to us then to our dog). It can get a little crazy on weekends when they have events or when multiple dog owners step in to shop with their pets, but I find it's a great way to socialize my dog with humans and animals alike. The only downside is pretty much how much I spend on a weekly basis when I take my dog here. Great store that my dog and I frequent often. If you don't trust my word, then at least take my dog's woof on it! read more

I visited this store for my first time today. When I arrived, I was not greeted and I couldn't figure out who worked at the store. I found it disorganized in that sense. Overall, a number of high quality pet products can be found in this location. However, the service is near non-existent and the owner who rung me through cash was less than stellar. The store has potential, but service should be improved ten fold. Update: I've since been into this store a few times since and had much better experiences. The owner has greeted us upon each arrival, and offering my pup some treats. Since my first visit, I have noticed the great variety of rescues they give space to in their store on weekends to fundraise, featuring various rescues each weekend. I think this is a great idea, and I particularly enjoy the baked goods! read more

It's always a nice little experience to go into the store. I'm always greeted warmly, and help is readily proffered. The store is clean and contains a small but varied selection of pet products - not just cats and dogs, also birds, rabbits / rodents, and I think they have reptile and fish sections as well. The prices are about what you'd expect. You're going to pay more here than at bigger stores, but not that much more. I certainly wouldn't go elsewhere. read more

Checked this place out and I'll have to agree with the other Yelpers. I went in to do some research (as I don't have a dog quite yet) and I found the staff to be friendly and helpful. The person I talked to gave some suggestions for us and encouraged me to bring my dog in once I get her. I was told that we could try some products out to make sure my (future) dog would like it. At no point did I feel that I was being pressured to buy anything. The store itself is clean and very well organized. I was specifically looking for dog-related items but it seems like they have a variety of items for a variety of pets. I don't know much about pet products so it's difficult for me to intelligently comment on the products. However, given the store itself, I would be surprised if the products were poor. I was very impressed and once I get my dog (August!!!), we will definitely be going to Healthy Pets HQ. The only reason why I gave it a 4/5 stars is because I didn't purchase anything. I'm confident that my rating will change once we go. Update: I got my dog and took her to the store. I was not disappointed at all. The staff was again, very helpful. The staff helped me to find a treat that my dog would eat. They were knowledgeable about the products and were very willing to provide suggestions and advice. This is a great store that has such a large selection of items for all types of pets. I love checking out their dog accessories for my yorkie and they have a huge selection of healthy food for her. The staff at Healthy Pets are very knowledgeable and were really interested in the questions and concerns I had about food selections for my dog. I really appreciated their knowledge of different options without being judgmental and the prices are very accomodating to all budgets. The store is well organized and clean and this is a really big deal because its always clean, not just during the pandemic. Its amazing that they have shelter animals and really try to encourage adoptions and supporting the health and welfare of all pets, and making sure they have a safe and happy life. I love shopping at Healthy Pets HQ on Bank and Gladstone!!!! Not only do you get friendly service, knowledgeable staff that care about their customers and make it feel like you are visiting family, the store is clean and spacious. I hate shopping in a store feeling like I am in a closet with people and can't move around. It's animal friendly, not just dogs....and accessible by all with or without disabilities. You know the place is awesome when customers just come in to say hi. It is a home grown, down to earth, love your animal kind of place. They also are very active in supporting local rescues and frequently hold events. The best thing about this store is the owner!!! Susy is warm hearted, caring and loves all animals unconditionally and genuinely cares about people and their pets. Don't take my word for it - go in and see for your self. Happy Shopping! read more

The owner was extremely helpful and took a long time describing the benefits and drawbacks of a wide variety of products. He was extremely knowledgeable and at no point did I feel like I was being pressured to buy anything. Definitely the most educational pet store visit I've ever made. we went in for the first time on Wednesday evening. My husband and I were impressed with the vast knowledge of the young woman working and she greeted our dogs like she had known them forever. We enjoyed our visit, the advice that was given and the atmosphere which is clean, bright and friendly. Even though the store was busy the empolyees took the time to greet us and made themselves available to us as we had many questions. We never felt rushed or pressured to buy a specific product.
