If you want to buy fish, or live plants avoid this place. Been testing them for over a year now, everything I purchase out of their tanks is diseased and infected including their plants. You want to buy dead or soon to be dead fish, get yours from this cesspool. Most of the staff are rude and entitled and do not fear any consequence for destroying their employers business. When you tell them you want to buy a fish, they hate it, seem bothered by the act of needing to catch a fish, and they will act rude to ensure you never come back as a fishkeeper. Their tanks are disgusting, they never clean the gravel, no wonder their entire rack system is infected and has been continuously for over a year. Save your money. read more

Great selection, very close to my own place which is great if I ever need to quickly run over and pick up any food my cats need. Would be here way more frequently if it weren't for the store hours which is why I'm giving 4 stars. As someone who normally doesn't finish work till 6 or 7pm (store is normally open till 5 or 6pm) so I'm forced to go to the other pet supply down the street many times to get what I need. I have lived in ottawa my whole life and have never visited this petstore until today but its great! its been in business for a long time and has a great selection of animals accessories and more, I went to purchase some Weather loaches after finding out petsmart nor big als had any, and I am very happy with the pair I got! the animals seem to be very well treated here and the prices are actually good, Staff are super friendly!. they even sell very cute kittens for a decent price aswell, Although its a bit of a drive for me to get to its closer then Big Als and I think I will be coming here for now on for my Fish since they carry good quality of the kinds I want. read more

After walking by it day after day, my boyfriend and I finally decided to check it out. They have birds, reptiles, tarantulas, and fish, and even a few absolutely adorable kittens that were rescued. The kittens were only $150, already spayed, and all the other animals were fairly inexpensive as well. They also carry the same pet items that you would find in larger pet stores, such as food, beds, toys, grooming supplies, sprays, and even natural products for things like pet anxiety. Prices range quite a bit, though, so if you're looking for something in particular, it's best to just go in and take a look. We had a few Christmas presents for our cats in mind, and we wanted to get an idea of the different types and prices of water fountains. As we explained to the man at the desk, our cats are obsessed with drinking water from the bathtub. He suggested a few models they had, one of which was new and is actually for dogs, but since we have two cats, he said that this particular one might be better. Since it was only $30 or so, we just bought it on the spot. Pet Circus is arguably the best pet store in Centretown, but that doesn't mean it is not without its faults. In comparison to the big box stores, Pet Circus is a big winner; they carry quality dog food and a good selection of everything else. I recently bought a leash there and it has worked out wonderfully. Now here is my issue: in a store that is so compact, how is it that getting help from one of the staff members is such a chore? Each time I walk in, I go to the dog food area and pick out what I want. I've done this 4-5 times now, and was only assisted once. I'm not a person who needs man hand held in a store, but at least offering assistance would be nice. When I purchased the leash in question a week ago, I was in front of the leash section looking at various types for at least 10 minutes. No one said a peep to me. This is even more amazing seeing as there were three staff members talking to themselves at the cash. At one point the male who either owns or works there took a call on his cell. The only thing the big box stores have on Pet Circus is their level of customer service. If Pet Circus put more of a focus on that, they'd be amongst the best in the city. read more

This litte shop was my go-to when I worked across the street. There are some lovely things about it, like the quality dog food and organic, homemade treats. I always find their prices really reasonable, especially for a smaller store. I've always been able to find anything I've needed here. Downside? It's pretty crowded, the staff are not always super helpful (you're not getting any "what can I help you with" here). There's generally a few homeless guys sitting outside with their dogs, but they're harmless. I'm too scared to go by the birds, so I don't venture in that area, but they always have lots of great stuff for pups including leashes, toys, grooming supplies and all the "seen on TV" stuff like the thunder jacket (haha), and the PetZoom. Overall, I'd stop here if I was in the neighborhood, but wouldn't go out of my way to visit. read more

We came to this place to buy a water heater in a last ditch effort to save our Betta fish with dropsy. Came across a fellow fish enthusiast staffer named Arden who recommended a heater and some drops for out little guy and gave us an almond leaf for him to rest on. I was deeply touched by her concern over our fishy friend and would recommend this place to anyone looking for stuff for their pets as the service was fantastic. Pet Circus has been in business for 35 years. This is most likely because of its central location, great customer service, exotic pets and good selection of food and toys for a variety of animals. The store is small so their selection of dog and cat food isn't overwhelmingly diverse like some stores. However, they definitely cover all the basics of what you'd need, plus they provide supplies for some of the more unique family pets. The staff is also knowledgeable and they have always been able to answer my bunny and cat questions. read more

If I could access another pet store easily, I'd never go to Pet Circus again. Like many young urban professionals, I live in Centretown and rely on public transit to get anywhere else. Buying a big bag of dog food and taking it on the bus is difficult, so I regret having to give my business to this store. I'm not sure what planet the staff is from, but they have yet to master human customs. They are unfriendly and make very strange remarks. Further, this is the only pet store I've ever been in where I've been given so little help and had so many weird alternative products suggested to me. The store is cramped and it is very difficult to find anything. The staff offers little help and rarely understands what I'm looking for. I can only imagine they stay in business because of their location or possibly because they occupy a "niche" market. I've often gone in looking for generic products for my dog, only to find they've got a bunch of strange alternatives instead. This wouldn't be so bad if they carried these unusual items ON TOP OF the generic ones, especially considering they are the only pet store in this neighbourhood. For all these reasons, I now shop at other pet stores for everything but big bags of dog food. read more
