Pet Supermarket is a National chain of pet supply stores based out of Sunrise Florida. The company was founded in 1973 by Charles West Jr. of Fort Lauderdale. There are now more than 200 locations and they carry more than 2,500 brands. While they are not the largest of this type of store they like to emphasize their connection to the pets people love like family They carry food and supplies for dogs, cats, fish, birds, reptiles, and small mammals. They sell small animals and offer grooming, dog washes, and offer pet adoptions. Their motto is "we speak pet". I have a lot of pets. Right now my family includes 2 dogs, 5 cats, 1 parakeet, and 1 rabbit, Saving money and buying quality products are my two top concerns. Given the choice, Pet Supermarket is not usually my first choice for pet supplies. I find them to be more expensive although they do have a loyalty program but they have a smaller selection of items. I was shopping in the 5th Avenue Shoppes when I passed by this store and decided to try and knock an errand off my list. On the positive side the store was bright, clean, and well marked. I have switched my dogs over to the refrigerated food like Fresh Pet. Unfortunately they only carry the frozen food and the rabbit section was quite small. I left empty handed although the store employees were happy to tell me where else I could shop to find what I need. Oh no, I see Rosa, I saw her last time. I hope she doesn't try and get too close." And that, folks, is likely what goes through the head of my puppy dog, Bori, when we walk into Pet Supermarket. I'm certain of it! There are lots of big box and individually owned and operated pet stores in town. I can't really say if Pet Supermarket is the best, but I can say they are outstanding at what they do. The store is always well stocked. There are knowledgeable staff on the floor, and I've not been there when someone has failed to approach me in the first few minutes of entering to ask if I needed help. No pressure, just an offer of help. And the in-depth answers to my numerous questions, like "why is this dry food better than that dry food"? And "should I feed my puppy dry or canned food, or both, and what are the advantages and disadvantages of doing each?" Dallas, one of the managers, has a wealth of knowledge and actually provides in-depth answers and explanations to questions, and honestly explains things like why all chew toys, even if they are hard and say "indestructible", will, over time, chip and allow little pieces to be digested. He has explained why Merrick premium brand wet and dry food is so good for my dog, and why the dog will drink less water with that food. He also explained why I should feed Bori less of that brand when I was concerned about loose bm's (the food is very rich), and after I followed his advice, the problem stopped. There is always a sale flyer when you enter the store and while they also have an email list to receive coupons, I haven't been able to get them to add my name, as there seems to be a glitch in their system. They have a frequent buyer program which gives you a $5 credit for each $100 spent, which adds up to some nice savings if you purchase everything there. Save your receipts, you may need to return an item. One of their staff was incredibly patient fitting Bori for a harness, making sure it wasn't too tight for too loose and explained how it should fit. I really appreciated that, and Bori likes his new harness a lot. They have a liberal return/exchange policy. I've brought back biscuits Bori did not like, and a chew bone which broke off too many pieces too quickly and I thought it was excessive and dangerous. With such a policy, I'm not hesitant to try a new product, not worrying I'm going to be stuck with it. The store is immaculate, has no odors, other than those the dogs can discern from all the biscuits, likely, as well as other dogs. There is a huge parking lot, which is always busy, as they are located in the Fifth Avenue Shops, next to Publix. Be careful when you pull out of your angled spot, remember, there are lots of Boca drivers around you. So, Bori recommends you check out Pet Supermarket, and see if Dallas is there when you shop. PJ and the other person that was at the register were disrespectful rude and confrontational; Not to mention trying to school me on pronouns I MUST use when I speak to them! One of the managers, Brian I believe his name was, was super helpful and friendly though and supervised us handling one of the cutest bunnies I've ever seen. My wife and I went to pet supermarket in Deerfield and we fell in love with this rabbit. It was transferred from the location on NE 5th avenue in boca raton. The Deerfield beach location had the rabbit for 2 days. It was disgusting the way the boca location treated the rabbit. He was all matted so bad that he had to shaved down by the vet and his nails was long and he was also a little on skinny side. I will never shop at that location. I used to shop here all the time and I was in here at least twice a week. It's been a few years since I have a dog, BUT I became an aunt this year! My new nephews name is Bori & he is so adorable. Bori is so much fun to shop for, so I am excited to be shopping here again. I love being Aunt Britt. Pet Supermarket has a large selection of toys. Some are quiet but I love the squeaky ones that make funny sounds. I found a musical dreidal over the holidays & that was a big hit with Bori. I have been looking for other musical toys, but no luck so far. All of the sales associates are helpful and friendly. You can tell they enjoy their job. If I had the opportunity to meet, greet and play with dogs all day, I would love my job too. How could you not? I used to buy dog food here & I would buy a case at a time. One of the guys would always carry it to my car; even when I wouldn't need help. Talk about going the extra mile! I don't participate in their VIP program anymore but I remember the loyalty program was a good one. They would email me coupons in addition to snail mailing them too. Omg this is one of the BEST Pet Supermarkets I've ever been to. I've been a pet owner for years and whenever I can I will save Kitties needing a home. But Sam and Andrea are some of the sweetest and most helpful not to mention the most ANIMAL LOVING people I've met. They are PERFECT for the job here in the Boca Pet Supermarket at 1966 NE 5th Ave. Honestly I truly appreciate people like them as it restores my trust in people being that I deeply care about animals, all animals. They were amazing in caring for and getting adopted 2 adorable Kittens I found near my office in Fort Lauderdale. I vetted them with their shots and had them spayed and neutered. I cared for them for a few months before contacting Kitty Karma of Delray who helped me place them in the store here. I drive here from Fort Lauderdale specifically to see Sam and Andrea. Walked on by and said hi , made my way to the fish department , the place was clean the shelves were stocked , I needed some ghost shrimp but there wasnt alot . Okay so I went in with my Pitt Yeezy, and as soon as I walked into the door the associates Thomas and Kaitlyn were loving on my dog. I don't know about everyone else but that for me shows how much they truly care. After they got over loving on him Thomas helped me find the right collar and leash, explaining why the Rabbit leash was the best one for my dog. Then we had to find him a mouthwash and as Thomas was in the middle of helping me find one the manager Manny told him he needed to go help someone get a fish. When Thomas explained he was helping me, I could tell the manager was aggravated so I just told him to go get the fish. The manager was VERY inconsiderate and was standing at the register doing nothing looking at me and my friend and not trying to help us. After he was done getting the fish Thomas came back and helped us and we were checked out by Kaitlyn who gave Yeezy a goodbye treat. This store got a 5 star rating because of Thomas and Kaitlyn. Pet Supermarket is clean & well organized with lots of stock. But yesterday when I went in to purchase cat litter, I was not impressed with the staff. I was greeted by 1 of the 4 employees behind the register. She was unoccupied, 1 was with a customer and 2 were playing with a bird. Since I was buying a 40 lb bag of litter, I needed a cart. There were none in the store despite several strewn about the parking lot. I had to leave to get a cart and when I returned not one of them asked if they could help me find what I came for. I was a little annoyed about the cart and decided to find the litter myself and not disturb the FOUR employees still behind the register. As for prices, I cannot say as we are new to having cats but you do get a discount if you give them your phone number. Just don't expect any employees to offer to help you with a 40 lb bag of cat litter. read more

Rudest manager and cashiers ever!! My boyfriend purchased two toys for our puppy. Kong brand; which is supposed to be sturdy; the toys lasted but an evening. My boyfriend went to bring them back; listen; if your policy is discretionary upon the store manager; let him know in a profesional and polite way. But of course that is not the case; the cashier huffed and puffed and so did the manager who came to him in the rudest possible way giving him terrible attitude and saying it's not her fault our puppy misbehaves. Really lady??? Our puppy is trainer but he is a PUPPY. Also; the toys clearly stated they are durable. By far the cleanest pet supermarket I've been to yet. Their whole store is well maintained and the animals look like they truly are cared for. This is one of the only stores I've been to where the animal pens don't smell of urine and feces. Their fish department maybe smaller but it's always well stocked with beautiful fish and plants and the tanks all seem algae free. I come here mainly for crickets and this is the only store that doesn't stick a bunch of dead ones in a bag and count them towards my dozens. I enjoy the reptile department because they order reptiles you don't usually see else where! And the reptiles always have crickets in them and fresh looking water along with fresh looking veggies and fruits. A plus in my book. I've been coming to this pet supermarket for the past 2 years and they have been awesome until the last 6 months, when they brought it new management. everyone there is super rude and always has some type off attitude for no reason. My biggest concern is the lack of care they have towards there aquatic section and could consider it animal abuse. They always have sick and dead fish and it seems like they do not care, I always see dead fish, sick fish and it seems like no one there cares at all. With all the dead fish and sick fish you would think something would change but no one there seems to care and it starts with management. Please do not come to this pet store looking for fish they are always sick and if you already have an established tank you are going to end up killing off your tank and all your fish. I have been in the hobby for years and I know what I am talking about. Something needs to be changed because this store was awesome until new management came in. We want people that care ! read more

Purchased two dog toys at this location yesterday. One was a Kong toy and another off band toy. Both were marketed as being durable and "tough" toys. Took them home and my puppy had the leg removed off toy with one pull and the Kong toy split at the seem after a few tugs. My dog is not aggressive and plays with his toys casually so I figured these were faulty toys. I went and returned today and the manager was super rude. She didn't ask what happened but rather lectured me with a horrible attitude about how my dog is aggressive and should be playing with something like a bone instead. She refunded me the money but made me feel ashamed in the process and that I should be thanking her for the refund. I will never shop here again. If you're reading this I highly recommend shopping at Petco or Petsmart. Both companies have policies that allow you to return product no questions asked... and you won't have to deal with this extremely negative manager. read more
