This is normally my go to place for grooming my Aussie. Never Again! The groomer SHAVED my poor girl! She was unrecognizable. Who doesn't know the difference between a trim and scalping? The female groomer had the nerve to tell me she had made the first cut and realized it was too short but decided to "just keep going " to "even it up" . Are you kidding? If you made a mistake, STOP. Don't keep making it worse. I know the owner Randy, who is a good guy, but he was nowhere to be seen. I don't know why he hired this groomer, but it cost him my business. It will take months for my beautiful Aussie to look normal. While I appreciate the apology, you neglected to mention I was actually charged for this nightmare. I recently took my five-month-old puppy to the Bark Room for his first grooming session. I called ahead to discuss the services I wanted: a face and eye trim, nail clipping, and a wash. I was told over the phone that this would cost $60. However, when my boyfriend dropped off and picked up our puppy, the total was $90. To my shock, when my puppy came home, it was clear they had only cut around his eyes and the bottom of his ears, leaving the rest of his face unkempt and looking bizarre. The groomer told my boyfriend that since it was his first time, they couldn't finish his face trim, but they still charged for a trimming service. I called to get a breakdown of the charges and was told the wash was $60, the trim was an extra $15, and $15 was gratuity. This differed from what I was initially told--that the trim would be included in the $60. The groomer offered $10 off our next visit, but I am shocked she expects us to return after such an unsatisfactory experience and unexpected charges. I also want to emphasize that it's not necessarily about the cost - if from the start I was told that everything would be $75 total that would be fine. It's just the fact that we were told everything we wanted would be $60 and then the fact that we were charged additional $15 for a trim that wasn't even completed. Overall, I am very disappointed with the service and the misleading information about the pricing. read more

When I came in my dog was cornered against the gate they have while another dog was intimidating her. I honestly didn't appreciate my dog being bullied by another dog when the cost is 90$ and I tell them every time I drop her off that they can put her in the cage by herself. I came in today with her to get her nails trimmed because she is an anxious dog and I wanted to ease her way going back here. She was almost jumping in the street how hard she was pulling to not go back here. Also when I picked her up and went inside they turned us away claiming they are too busy to cut her nails. I had passed the entrance to BARK ROOM every time I went to Giuseppe's Cafe next door, and had also seen its signage on the back door which explains that it is kept locked because it is a cage-free boarding facility. How interesting, thought I, I wondered what a cage-free groomer was. When I called to set up my first appointment, explaining to JOHN ANDREWS, its owner, what type of dog I had and what his needs were, he explained their environment, before I even inquired. So, BARK ROOM provides a safe place for your pet to be groomed, and doesn't lock them up in cage. They either roam around the area where the grooming is done, or are kept in a spacious individual run, protected by one of those see-through gates you would use for a child. The walls of the runs are low enough that even small dogs can stand on their hind legs and see out (See my picture). When meeting John, he was as gracious and warm and inviting in person as he was on the phone. The facility was immaculate. The front of the store displays a variety of high quality foods and treats, as well as safe high quality toys, bones, chews, and harnesses and leashes. (Stella & Chewy, Bocce's, Primal, Cloud Star, Earth Animal Orijen), to name a few. He explained his philosophy of treating the animals he services no differently than this own dogs, with grooming and food and toys. I was told it would be about an hour for Bori to get his SPRUCE UP, which was $40 for his size, and included a relaxing warm bath with a hydrosurge shampoo, conditioning, blueberry facial, a gentle fluff dry, ears wiped dry [very important], nails trimmed and FILED SOFT, and if needed, professional gland expression. Well, my reaction, after meeting John, as Dennis and I walked out of the BARK ROOM, feeling comfortable that he was in good hands, was "Well, I wouldn't mind having John give me the exact same treatment. If it is good enough for Bori, why wouldn't it be good for me? And of course, I would tip apporpriately." We picked Bori up about an hour later (John texted to indicate he was ready, a nice touch), Bori had HUGE smile on his face, his coat was soft and shiny, he smelled like blueberries, and his nails were just right. I did not ask if he got his glands expressed, thinking that was too personal and should stay between his groomer and him. After all, some degree of discretion is appropriate, especially in East Boca. We will definitely return on a regular basis, Bori seemed quite content, and slept for a few hours afterwards. Oh, on the day of grooming, anything you purchase in the store is 20% off, which is a super deal. And use your YELP check-in bonus for a free nail clipping. Worst mistrust ever! Hurt my dog with several cuts, including destroyed one paw!! Used some sort of quick stop to stop the bleeding!! Covered it up, and our trainer saw it the next morning! Brought my puppy here once before and was happy. I came again and upon returning home from picking up my 5 pound pup I realized he had all the same knots as he did when I dropped him off. I thought maybe I just paid for just a trim (even thought it was $80 with an additional 20% tip) and called to ask if that was the case since he still had these knots. The person who answered, I believe her name was Sara, said "if you want us to brush him out, bring him back, but yea all the dogs get washed so". I was kind of surprised because she seemed annoyed that I was even asking if I paid for the right thing. I was just trying to get him washed and a tiny trim. This establishment needs to work on its quality control and how it operates. Long story short: he had his paws trimmed, got sprayed with some cologne on his head (this was the only part of him that smelled differently and it was very clear it was cologne) and that was it. It's just disappointing when people don't take pride in their work and then rip you off. This isn't an angry review, just an honest one. In response to Bark Rooms response: I just don't feel I should have to ask that my dog be brushed. I took him here to come back clean and it just seems self explanatory to put conditioner in his hair and then brush out the knots. I truly don't believe he was washed either. You can tell the difference between a spray and hair/fur that has been actually cleaned. Again, the response may be "nice" but the person who answered seemed mad I would even call. The attitude of "ok so what do you want us to do?" Just very rude and disingenuous to reply that you tried to rectify the situation. It's just absurd, this was the entire purpose of bringing him and they service I paid for was not done. Plain and simple. I also wouldn't trust to leave my puppy with them again. Charlie, our 14 1/2 year old Malti-Poo has gotten quite nasty in his old age when it comes to grooming. At another competing facility in town they had to muzzle him and still couldn't get the job completely done. We know he can be difficult so we weren't surprised but we decided to try the Bark Room as an alternative. We thought that maybe we'd have some better luck. Well, at the Bark Room they must use some kind of magic because I've brought him there twice already and they don't have a problem with him and no muzzle was needed. They did a great job on the whole grooming process and he wasn't stressed out at all. The staff was super friendly and they had a few small dogs around so its possible that helped calm Charlie down a bit as well. My two monsters, Luna a Great Pyrenees and Blaze a Decoy Duck Retriever are normally groomed every four weeks. I was nervous because I love his long hair look but with the summer time it was too hot. I found bark room and decided to call. They fit me in within the next two days. I was absolutely blown away by how good his first cut was. They did such an amazing job. They gave him such a good cut without getting rid of too much hair while maintaining his golden retriever look around his face. We were very pleased with grooming our Yorkie at the first visit. The second experience was the complete opposite. The bark room was short staffed. Instead of 2-3 hours our Yorkie was there for over 4 hours. Her face was poorly trimmed. Her tail was knotted and they wanted to shave the tail. We declined. Our Yorkie began to smell after 1 week and her hair did not shine as it usually does after a good wash. We subsequently had her bathed at our vet and with loving care they deknotted her tail. This facility is hit and miss and we will be looking for another groomer. read more
