Overall, really poor experience with customer service and rude employees regarding the self service dog wash. I've been using this location of Pet Food Express to conveniently wash my dogs every two weeks for years. While the store is clean and well stocked, employees are unhelpful and on several occasions downright rude. Specifically, the dog wash never has adequate shampoo or water pressure. When taking the time and spending the money to wash your dog here, the expectation is to have adequate shampoo to wash your dog effectively. After I told a team member there was virtually no shampoo in the bath spray and the additional shampoo they leave on the counter is now too watered down to be effective, instead of offering assistance she chastised me for taking the extra shampoo and using it all. The "shampoo" was so watered down there was no lather or scent. She then said it's for everyone despite no one else being there. The manager, Lindsay, was notified and handled the situation very poorly. Instead of intervening, offering any assistance or a remedy, she chastised me for using the all the watered down shampoo and accused me of throwing the bottles. I was completely taken aback by her attitude and being spoken to in such a hostile and rude manner. She is effectively alienating customers. Never have I been treated so poorly as a customer. I would not return or recommend this location. Very unpleasant and unnecessary experience. Shame on Pet Smart for tolerating this behavior. read more

My partner purchased some items from this store for dog. She already takes a lot of medication so I wasn't sure to add another pill in to her daily digestion of everything else to keep her alive and going. I noticed my partner missed the date of return since it was after 30 days. But I was rest assured that it was returnable at any time if the product did not do anything for our dog. When I walked in, I spoke to a representative and explained to him the skin situation of my dog. All he did was point to where they have some sort of medication or over-the-counter product that help helps assist with reducing the itch, but doesn't confirm to help them with their skin reaction and allergies. I wanted the representative to know a little bit more and be a little bit more knowledgeable on the type of products that they are selling since my dog is very sensitive to many products. The representative went ahead and talked to his manager due to the product being over 30 days late even though we have the receipt. She came out, explained that she was not able to take it back due to it being over the 30 days...she had a bit of an attitude while explaining the situation. I than said well I would like to buy something else to help my dog with her skin rashes and she said no. Then I opened the product and showed her that it wasn't even opened. At that point her attitude changed and was able to provide me with a full refund in cash since the product wasn't opened and could be resealable. Anyways I left and went to the vet where they were knowledgeable and was able to send them the information of items I did my research on and they were able to assist greatly with over the counter medication. read more

the dog washing station has gone downhill. I have been coming to this dog washing station since i got my dog 4 years ago. Today the price stands at $20 per token and the service is worse. there is usually cheap plastic gloves available which i always appreciated b/c my dogs hair gives me splinters, and today i got attitude for asking if they have any. the shampoo was extremely diluted so there was absolutely not suds on my pup, therefore i used the ones by the trash which are now in a little tray/dispenser and supposedly there are three different kinds but they all smell and look the same lol i had to pump a small amount of each and compare them. We have been coming here for the past 7 years, since we adopted our "puppy" (and we live right up the street) He loves the grain free Salmon & peas puppy cereal & an occasional Lammy. Love the staff, they're super helpful and always know what to recommend! Recently, we added wet canned salmon into our pup's diet & not only does he love it, but some of his skin issues have been resolved. On our recent trip, they were currently out of that brand, but Rachel highly recommended another. It was less expensive but just as tasty (according to the fur-son). I love that it is pet friendly, and enjoy talking to all the doggies coming to the washing stations for a bath (yes, I'm that girl). They also hold adoptions for kittens and puppies several times a year. Love having a pet store so close to home that has such experienced and caring employees. read more

I have NEVER had a bad experience here. All the employees are so helpful and accommodating! From product suggestions, to comforting feedback on the health of my pets, these folks are incredible. So after I Yelp this company they send me a message that says there's a 30 day return policy and a 60 day return policy. 30 days for money back and 60 days for exchange. Ok . However my complaint had nothing to do with that. They kept repeating this to me and I don't know why. I called their customer service to find out why and they wanted a copy of a receipt... again I don't know why. It's obvious they hire people that are not capable of understanding a simple complaint or their own return policy's. My complaint was -attitude of Crystal and the -fact she weight the bag, -accused me of trying to return a empty bag of food, and -she was wrong, then saying I could -return it at a lower prorated price. (The return policy says you can return any unused portions wo restrictions) (The 30-60 day return policy was not my complaint, But it is a bad return policy.) read more

The staff at this location are amazing and so sweet! I've been shopping here for years for my chihuahua mix and they all love her and gave us amazing recommendations for training treats, enrichment toys and a slow feeder. I recently adopted a black lab mix puppy that has severe anxiety and abuse trauma that has never been given a bath in her 10 months of life. I tried to get her professionally groomed but it was too scary for her and it didn't work out. After that experience we took her to Pet Food Express to bathe her ourselves. While it was still scary for my puppy, the staff made sure we had plenty of treats to give her and let us walk around the store and feed her to help comfort her before we used the self-bathing station. This worked out perfectly for our puppy and I am so thankful for the staff for creating a safe space for us and our pup! read more

When there was a shortage on certain dog foods, I really liked how all of the staff and locals looked out for one another. No one bought too much and instead everyone was able to feed the pets with little impact. I just had to give a review of the gal who helped us out today. My husband and I were bringing our pup in for a wash and there was a guy in front with his malinois that I assumed he was training so we held back for a minute. I then asked him if it was okay to pass and he said yeah she's really friendly. But then she went and lunged at my dog nipping at his face as well as another passer by with his dog. We essentially got backed into a corner and one of the employees immediately came outside and put herself in between us to de escalate the situation. She handled it great and I'm very thankful she stepped outside. Wish I would've gotten her name but needless to say the employees here are great! read more

Walked in to buy some cheapo Fancy Feast cat food for my cats. I was informed that PFE doesn't sell the cheap foods with lesser ingredients. Had just adopted Agate from Jelly's, a no-kill shelter in San Pablo. He's a 4 month old kitten that being my favorite color, all black, I think is a Bombay or mostly Bombay. My current cat Chi, about 9, needed a new friend as I unfortunately had to euthanize Abdul, his friend his entire life, due to face cancer. Krystle is fabulous. I love going to all of the local Pet Food Express stores because the staff at each store are helpful, knowledgeable and caring. I dropped by the Martinez store unplanned and was greeted by a huge smile by one of the staff members - Krystle. She was warm and eager to help me find a well fitting harness for my dog. She guided me along and continued to offer assistance while discussing the options of various harnesses . I liked that she didn't reach for the most expensive harness and sat with me to find the best one to fit my sweet pup.After purchasing what seemed like a good harness, my pup was able to move her leg out of the space provided. This was my first experience with the Martinez store, and it was by phone, trying to problem solve acquiring a specific dog food out of stock in my local PFE, and back ordered overall, but some cans were still on the shelf in Martinez. It's a food that my sensitive-tummy senior pup tolerates well, and I don't like being out of it. I'm some distance from Martinez and could not get there before closing.
