I came in right before Halloween to get a few treats for my foster pup. She is suffering from a skin condition, so she needs medicated baths 3x a week. Dressing her in pjs has also been helping her be less itchy. We got Matilda the cutest pjs here- I love haw easy they are to put in- no snaps, just pull over her head and then put her back paws in. We also got her some yummy/ healthy treats and some new squeaky toys I appreciate that they put holiday items on sale a bit before the holidays so I can dress up my foster pup and post her on the shelter's social media Plenty of parking and the store appeared clean and well organized read more

I was really impressed with their self service pet washing station. Normally I take my dog to Pet Food Express for baths, which if remember correctly cost $18 for 25 mins. I don't live near a Petco with the self service dog wash so when I saw that this location had it, I gave it a try seeing that my dog was overdue for a bath. For $20, I think theirs is a pretty good deal. There is no hard stop when it comes to time, their tubs are slightly lower which made it easier for me to reach over to bathe my dog, and their blowers worked well. They have store provided shampoo/conditioner, a silicone scrub brush, and towels. I brought my own shampoo and did not use the ones provided so can't comment on how well they work but it looked pretty watered down. The area itself was a little old but clean. read more

Ty (tall, bad haircut) has been rude the last two times we used Petco's dog wash stations. The first time he was ANNOYED he had to help us pay for a dog wash. Then, he refused to get us extra towels. This time, while he was rinsing down the station and we were leaving the store, I let him know that the pet station was overflowing because the drain was plugged. I didn't want the station to overflow while he was rinsing it. He said, in the rudest tone, that's why they close the pet stations at 8: to unclog the drains. It's not our fault the drain was clogged. Petco's pet washes are more expensive than Petfood Express. I recommend everyone go there (only 13 dollars a wash) because Petco does NOT give the bare minimum of customer service (i.e., not nice or helpful). read more

I've never witnessed more terrible management. White guy with a bowl cut and glasses (I believe his name tag said Ty) is the most condescending, rude, and passive aggressive person I've met. I'm surprised anyone would hire him, but I guess assistant manager at a petco is the peak of his professional career. Petco, Martinez, do better. Why are you keeping a solitary parakeet, who are social birds, in a plastic cubby under bright lights for months on end? This is animal abuse and you should be ashamed. That said, I came into this store to see if they had some special cat food for my cat - they don't. The two folks at the register tell me I have to go to Brentwood to get it. I'm not driving to Brentwood and I make that clear. They keep trying to sell me on Brentwood like they're not listening to what I'm saying. I'm asking if there's anything else, they do mention Concord Petsmart (where I ended up) but start with the Brentwood Petco and what I need to do to get the food there despite the fact I've said five or six times now I'm not going to Brentwood. The staff at this Petco are friendly and knowledgeable and there's a pretty good selection of pet food, toys, and treats. The biggest draw for us is the refillable cat litter station! Great way to eliminate plastic waste. We refill the same giant litter bucket for a pretty low cost and our cats definitely can't tell the difference either way. read more

This is where I go when I need anything for my animals. They are always stocked with great products to keep your furry family members happy and healthy. The staff is very friendly and informative. If I need food, treats, litter, or over the counter medication, I will find it here. It is nice to know that if I need anything, I can pick it up here. The only drawback is when I walk in and see the cats up for adoption, I cannot adopt them since I already have two furry family members at the moment. I have ways liked purchasing my pet supplies at this Petco location. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They go out of their way to help customers. The reason I am finally posting this review is because of the support I received when I took my pup in for his first bath. Alex was the staff person who assisted me with the process and explaining what resources were available (towels, shampoo, conditioner, and scrub brush. Alex made sure to check in on us and offered help. She even brought a treat for my pup which was a great way to make the bathing process rewarding for him. I now take him in weekly for bathing and the staff, especially Alex, are wonderful. I love washing my dog here.. They supply big bathtubs with rings to keep your dog from jumping out. They supply shampoo and conditioner with brushes for washing with the warm water. They have towels for drying and a doggy blow dryer. Leave all the mess there. All for 10 bucks.. Then my calli gets to pick out a toy. They have so many to choose from sometimes this takes longer than I like. Lol.. Pet food is a bit on pricey side but if your pet demands a certain brand they probably carry it. This is the Petco near the iHOP Pancake House off Morello. Not to be confused by the other pet store near Nob Hill grocery. I've been to both for their self service pet wash. Petco is THE place for me! Why?... 1) The staff is so nice and will give me extra towels for my large dog. 2) It's still only $10. Go on a weekday morning when it's quiet and fresh. 3) The tubs are stainless steel. And at a perfect height, not high. There is a rubberized step stool for your dog to step up. My dog feels secure....at the other places they use ceramic tile and it's very high and there are several slippery steps up. The tubs are tiled too, and shallow, and my dog slipped and fell getting down the steps. Not good. 4) Use their orange racks with the rubber mats and they will keep your pup's paws away from germs in standing water, though really there is no standing water because the drains are well maintained and clean. The other places do not have racks or rubber mats. The staff clean the tubs after every wash. If they are not, just ask the staff and they will sanitize the tub right away for you. 5). The manager is wonderful. She is great! orange wire racks and rubber mat provided and your pup won't be pick up germs in standing water. But, there is no standing water because the water drains well and are cleaned regularly. read more

I went into this location today and it was so sad to see that as a "pet store" they had beta fish on the shelves with a list of poop in their small containers and even one dead fish just chillin on the display . They also had 2 cats you could adopt in their I wana say 6/4 combined cages that had a litter box in ever cage just full of their feces. It's so sad to know that's the quality in which the 4 workers thought it was ok for them to live like. So much for a pet store. read more

I don't usually write yelp reviews because I have better things to do with my time but I have had such disrespectful interactions with employee Ty that I felt compelled to review. I came in to the store a couple weeks ago with my 3 year old son (who is special needs) and my senior rescue dog who is partially blind and Ty asked me loudly and rudely if my dog was aggressive (he actually yelled from across the store) when my dog barked at him when he approached from his blind side. Then today I came into the store with my kids and dog, my kids were excited to buy Christmas presents for my dog. When I told my special needs son that he could only buy 1 stuffy for my dog he had a temper tantrum (very normal behavior for a 3 year old being told no) and Ty yelled at me from across the store to "get my kid off the floor". Typical entitled Californian behavior yelling at paying customers (we spent hundreds of dollars over the last 2 visits to this location) Not to mention my kids and I were respectful and put back the toys on the shelf that I said no to, they were not running around and being maniacs they were simply excitedly shopping for dog toys. Interestingly the female worker there with Ty today had no problem with my dog and greeted/petted him. Will definitely not be coming back to shop at this location due to Ty. read more

This review is for the pet training we have done at this location with Nicki J.. We signed up for a private lesson 6-pack for our 6mo+ old puppy. We are really glad we did private lessons vs. group. Nicki is an experienced positive dog trainer that focuses on rewarding good behavior instead of punishing. Our puppy has been so receptive to her training and she has been so helpful in training us on what to not do and do. Her patience and consistent training has really given our Lola pups an excellent foundation in her beginning obedience training and has even made her more receptive to new training. If you have any questions beforehand too, she's happy to address what type of training is right for your dog, group, or private and has been completely flexible when we have had to reschedule a few times now. I highly recommend working with Nicki J for your training sessions. She is fun to work with, explains everything very clearly, and has so much knowledge to share with you. We enjoy every session we have with her and always have amazing strides each week with our puppy. We def will be signing up for more sessions. read more

Everyone is especially nice, even remembered my dogs name after i came in the day I adopted him. I truly love the staff and service. That said I had a terrible experience in training and I imagine one other dog owner could say the same. My dog is not social and I told them that on more than one occasion but we were put in a small space and encouraged to let our dogs meet nose to nose and sniff hind ends which is when my dog bit the other dog and held on. We were asked to leave of course and my dog cannot even come for private lessons. I imagine others have had wonderful experiences but I feel the trainer was not really dog savvy and allowed the incident to occur for which my dog is banned. read more

I was terribly disappointed to see what the Morello store had become on my last visit yesterday. There was vertually none of the products I usually buy. When I asked where everything and everyone was I was told that the store had let go seven of there already thin staff. There were boxes everywhere, but nothing on the shelves. I asked the manager if Marla was one of the people "let go" and was told yes. As I have relied on her excellent help for quite some time I was not happy. None of the "good guys' were to be found. This place has such a weird layout. It has steps to get you to the dog food and a ramp on the opposite of where the steps are. So if you're heading down the main strip after you pass the cashiers to your left, you'll have to hang a hard left to find the ramp to take your cart down to load up your 40 lb bag of dog food, 20 lb bag of cat litter and then some. The ramp also is really smooth so if your shoes have no traction, you'll probably run your cart right into where you can adopt a kitten. And have fun pushing up your 60+ lb cart in heels like I did. Quite a sight this was, I bet. They have fish and birds too. Ah hell, they even have a collection of Star Wars pet costumes in time for Halloween. I resisted. I put the Star Wars Chuey dog costume back. Ian, the cashier was incredibly friendly. I was also offered help out to my car. I don't think that's ever happened before, certainly not at PetSmart. We shop at this PetCo regularly for our pets. The service is almost always great and the staff knowledgeable. It's clean, the animals seem well kept. We recently bought a small green cheek conure. I was very hesitant to buy from a big chain store, but the bird was friendly and we could tell that the staff really liked him. He's been a tremendous addition to our family, happy and healthy and well trained (someone on staff has experience with training parrots). I would definitely get a bird from them again. As much as I was willing to pay well for a parrot, the discount they provided for being a member allowed us to splurge on other things for him. read more

I have to give a big shout out to Brandon at this Petco. My kitties were getting sick off the Petco brand food and it was 7:30 at night when I came in frantic and worried and needing a new food. Brandon was very helpful and asked a lot of questions about my fur babies so he could help me decide which food would be best. After describing my cat's symptoms we discovered the food I was giving them was too high in protein for my older cats. He even refunded me for the food I bought over a month ago, which I didn't bring in, have a receipt for or even ask for a refund. He said he wanted to make things right. I am so grateful Brandon was there and the new food he recommended is working out great. I had exceptionally good service when i was looking for a sweater for my dog. I'm a Petco fan in general and go to the WC & Concord stores in addition to this one. It's not better or worse than any other Petco. The staff is friendly, the store very clean, nice selection, fair prices. However, the reason I'm writing this regards the purchase of rats from the store. In late Dec. 09, I bought 2 young females and one died the next day. The helpful employee said to come back in a few days when a new batch would be in and at that time replaced it. Then a few months later the other of the original 2 died. I then got 2 more. Recently 2 of the 3 died. Thus, out of 5 total purchased, 4 died within a year and a half. In all the cases, there appeared to be nothing wrong with the rats. They just died. I'm an experienced rat-keeper and can assure you it had nothing to do with how I cared for them. They were in fact excellent rats--alert, active, friendly with both other rats and with me and with children. But the bottom line is that they shouldn't die early, mysterious deaths. I will never buy rats from there again, that's for sure! read more

This petco sucks! On 6/17/18 I was looking around at this petco and five minutes into this visit , a dog without a leash runs through the automatic sliding door into the parking lot where a car screeched on its breaks to not hit the dog. At pet food express in Lafayette they also have a dog wash station where they have a button that pulls a gate down in the wash station corner so the dog does not run through the store, they also have a washing leash so while you are washing your dog it stays put. And at that pet food express they have pull doors not automatic sliding doors. Lastly the Walnut Creek petco and Lafayette pet food express have a policy/rule that if you have a cat or a dog they MUST be on a leash and if you forget they have free nice leashes.
