This petco sucks! On 6/17/18 I was looking around at this petco and five minutes into this visit , a dog without a leash runs through the automatic sliding door into the parking lot where a car screeched on its breaks to not hit the dog. At pet food express in Lafayette they also have a dog wash station where they have a button that pulls a gate down in the wash station corner so the dog does not run through the store, they also have a washing leash so while you are washing your dog it stays put. And at that pet food express they have pull doors not automatic sliding doors. Lastly the Walnut Creek petco and Lafayette pet food express have a policy/rule that if you have a cat or a dog they MUST be on a leash and if you forget they have free nice leashes. Possibly the worst customer experience we had ever experienced. Employees had no interest in helping and looked extremely bothered when we asked one to get some fish for us out of their tank, because they were in the middle of a social conversation with a coworker. Upon attempting to check out there was no cashier at the register which required further waiting. They did not advise a rewards member got a discount and gave no receipt. Very unwelcoming experience. read more

The reason why I'm giving a 5-star rating is because I first was going to get a shock collar for my dog cuz she was annoying the hell out of me when I come home but when I was talking to this guy named Eddie he helped me out and I understand that it's not always a good idea to get a shock collar he was explaining it to me in a good way to understand that I need to teach my dog and there's classes for I can reduce the barking and he helped me very very well how to say thank you Eddie and I'll do what I can for my dog Lily thank you for changing my mind on the shock collar instead I will give her a treat when I get home. read more

Place is great. Stellar customer service and really clean. I use the dog wash here and it may look dated but it's the best around. The place is sneaky big and offers all your pet needs, A to Z. Cheers. read more

The staff was really friendly and the store seemed pretty well cleaned but when looking at the cats they have for adoption the habitats are filthy and the litter boxes were completely full like they are not changing the litter enough. They also have a sick cat in the adoption habitat. It has tons of mucus like crusting around the eyes and no information on if its being treated or why it is even in the store while its sick with another cat. The only info they had up is that they are ready for adoption. It is just not right in my opinion to have the poor cats in such bad conditions. read more

I generally like Petco. This location has a DIY dog bath area. For $10, Petco supplies the tub, water, shampoo, conditioner, and towels. Recently, Petco has changed the shampoo they provide. It's total crap. It's very perfumed, runny like water and drying to the skin. Clearly they have moved to cheaper shampoo to cut costs. I asked the employee about why they have changed the soap, and he stated that they have to add water to the soap or it will irritate the animals skin. Yikes. Definitely don't want that soap on my dog. Not planning on returning. read more

Somehow this particular location seems like a neighborhood pet store instead of part of a huge chain. The employees are a little bit offbeat and always super friendly and helpful. I like to browse-- listen to the conversations about pets going on around me, before i check out. read more

I love that this store has a you-do-it pet wash. For ten bucks you can wash your critter and they provide the soap, conditioner, towels, brushes aprons and they even have a blow dryer. read more

Love this Petco! Friendly staff, love washing my dogs here - all the equipment and no mess at the house! Dog food a little on the high side - but I am all about convenience and time. Had my Maggie trained by David and he is AWESOME - so helpful and they offer puppy play day on Saturday's for FREE! read more

It's a pet store so there's not much else I can say there. Their customer service isn't too bad. I've definitely been to other places where they had terrible customer service so it's nice to get good customer service here. read more

One time I got attacked by this asshole dog when my mom and I entered the store. The clerk then gave me tons of treats and kept asking me if I was OK. Sure, I was OK cuz he gave me lots of good treats! Mom said the price is kinda high, but I made sure I peed in that place and ate lots of treats while there... read more

Most of the employees here are not as helpful as in Walnut Creek. There is a gray haired man with a mustache (manager?) who needs some personal communication skills. I have talked with him twice and have received the same uninterested and unfriendly tone. Most recently, I saw him bending behind the counter and asked if I could ask a question. I got a "uh huh" and no eye contact. The special item advertised apparently was not available at Martinez despite there being a tag on the dog food that said some cans were free. No "sorry", no offer for some other dog food cans, no "goodbye". read more

Fairly big Petco with a good selection of stocked items, but not a huge selection. I was looking for a dog bed and they had a lot of the same items but not a lot of variety. I did find one that worked for me, but it wasn't exactly what I wanted and wished they had more to choose from. read more

I love this store! Quality pet food for my best friend and an amazing staff who seem always ready to provide great personal service!!!!

We recently moved to the area and went to buy some dog food for the first time since we've moved. Unfortunately the girl who checked us out was very rude and insisted on talking to her co-worker instead of interacting with us. It's a serious pet peeve since I work in a service industry as well and when I tried to ask her something to redirect the conversation, she couldn't be bothered. Poor customer service all around. read more

We liked shopping here fine until we tried to return a defective cat bowl without a receipt. The pricey--over $9--water bowl we bought was cracked and leaked. We simply wanted to replace it with another, but the clerk refused to allow this, forcing us to buy another bowl and have to return to the store a second time when we find our receipt! Pretty cheesy customer service when the problem was Petco's, not ours! New comment: When we returned the defective bowl, a new manager (female) was shocked at the behavior of the previous clerk, and assured us she would speak to him. Feel much better now about our neighborhood pet store. read more

The best Petco around. Better selection than other locations. Helpful staff. Joey is the best !

Petco wash stations are the best. They provide everything you'll need ( shampoo, towels, cotton balls, blow drier, and an apron). The tubs are always clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful. I highly recommend it. read more

thank you so much to brandin at this location! he was very informative and cleared up a lot for us as new puppy owners. his advice and suggestions were really appreciated. :) read more

I buy my fish and bird supplies here. The staff is very knowledgeable about their fish. If one isn't, they immediately get someone who is. They have a large supply of bird foods, treats and toys. My birds love their toys! Occasionally they don't have the banana scented millet, but Walnut Creek Petco is close, so no biggy. read more

Bad customer service. we purchased a flea removal oil for my two cats, followed the instructions very thoroughly, and BOTH of the cats started foaming at the mouth. We washed them off immediately and went to return the product (you could assume how scared we were). We werent mad at the workers until they assumed that we didnt read the box at all. They told us the it was normal for some cats to foam at the mouth. They said they dont recommend the brand we used (that was on the stores shelf for anyone to purchase). Instead of being understanding or helpful, they blamed us for what happened to our cats. They issued the refund but the cashier continued to be very rude to us. read more

They are always so nice here. They carry the foods I feed my animals and I can refill my cat litter bins. I would give them 5 stars if they had groomers so I wouldn't have to go to Concord to trim my dogs nails. read more

A pet store is a pet store so it really comes down to customer service. I do not appreciate retail clerks passing judgement and telling me what I should and should not be feeding my dog. I asked for help in picking out a shampoo and she tried to sell me $45 dog food. I just turned around and left empty handed. read more

I went there for training classes. I have had dogs for over 40 years but this dog that was rescued off the streets and challenged me. I met Dave the trainer and was impressed. He knows how to train and knows his dogs. Its not just a job for him. He cares about these dogs. Also, the staff all knew how to deal with a shy dog and would offer their hand behind them for Zoe to sniff (A lot of people do not understand a shy dog). She went from hiding under my chair to visiting the staff. Ian is a great manager. read more

Absolutely awful customer service by worker named Marla. I bought an $80 flea collar for my dog at a different petco location day prior, just to realize it's only $55 on their website. Since I was in the area, I decided to stop by this location (Arnold Drive in Martinez, CA) on 7/16/18. Marla said I needed to go back to the original location and do the price adjustment there because I was going to "mess up their inventory". She was huffing and puffing and throwing things around, because I insisted she did the price adjustment. After she finally agreed to it, she would not give back my original receipt, because "I was going to go back to the original location and return this item the second time"... Lesson learned: 1. check online before going into the store, chances are online prices are way better. 2. Avoid dealing with this bitter person (Marla) at all costs. read more

There is a very large waldding barbaric women that recently starting working here. I think her name is heather she is not very smart and has no buisness working in a pet store. Actually I wouldnt trust her picking up trash at a carnival. She has no idea what shes talking about and her people skills are horrible she ruined my petco experience and I will never shop here even if I were completely out of the dog food I use. I now drive to concord petco to get my dogs food. read more

The workers are nice, and the place is organized. They have a variety of rodents, birds, and fish. The only reason why I am giving them two stars is because they need to advertise which fish are salt water fish and fresh water fish. One time, we got a salt water fish, and we did not even know it. Sadly, the fish passed away. I think Petco as a whole needs to be more specific with the types of fish they have. read more

Employees are friendly and the fish looked healthy and cared for. My only complaint is that I had to ask a cashier to get fish. I didn't see anyone working on the floor. Overall good experience though and I will be coming back. read more

I purchased two guinea pigs from this establishment without knowing that one of them has a huge scratch on his face and crustiness around his eye. I found out on my own that he had mites. The lady who took them out didn't examine them or let me look at them, I wasn't able to pick up my guinea pig for another 10 days (until he let me) and thats when I noticed the mites and eye crustiness. I called to let them know they sold me a sick guinea pig and all they had to say was I should've looked at him when I got him, when obviously guinea pigs are scared of new people and I wan't trying to scare my new buddy. The man I spoke to said I could return him with a refund and they will take the animal to the vet, but I don't want to give him back, I want him to be healthy. He also said they go around the store checking if the animals are all right, but what does that even entail? That they're alive?! I am extremely upset and Petco shouldn't sell animals. read more

If I can give zero stars I would. I visited this location on 06/08/17 to exchange my online order for a different pet carrier. I soon ran across trouble when I found out the cashier did not know how to execute an online order although petco.com grantees easy returns. I had to wait while the cashier who can help me arrived to the register. I then waited while she got on the phone to verify how to do an online return with the manager on duty. I was very patient & was totally fine up until this point. Then the manager on duty came to the register to help ring because there was only one cashier working and the other was helping me with the return. The cashier who was helping me started to explain to me that the online order I wanted to return would not scan in their system. She also went on to explain that if the sku cannot be read on the POS it could not be returned. She then asked the manager on duty how to go about handling the situation. The manager on duty (Kirsten Marshall) explained to the cashier who was helping me that this product that I was about to return was not a product of petco & that I should take it back to wherever I got it from. Then the customers in line started to advise me to call customer service & they'll take care of me. Kirsten never once addressed me although I was not 3 feet away from her. She only talked to be cashier as if I wasn't there. The cashier then questioned Kirsten as to how I can have a receipt a proof of purchase if it's not a petco product. All Kirsten kept repeating was that it wasn't a petco product & I should take it back to wherever it is that I got it from. Kirsten repeated this several times. I then stepped away from the register to make a phone call to petco customer service. The customer service representative explained to me that my purchase was an online exclusive product sold on petco.com through a third party vendor. This was the reason why I had trouble with the return. While I was on the phone with customer care, Kirsten passed by me stating that this was ridiculous & that I should just take it back to wherever it came from once last time. I do not understand why I was treated so rudely. I also do not understand why Kirsten kept saying it wasn't their product & I should just take it back to wherever it came from when my receipt states otherwise & postage on the online order box clearly read PETCO. As for the online return, it was solved by the customer service representative issuing me a return label. Once I got done with the phone call I still went back to the register to buy the pet carrier I originally came in for. I then realized that I must not be welcomed at this petco because the box I brought the online order in was placed neatly next to the exit in front of the door. I'm referring to the box that clearly read petco.com. I do not know what Kirsten was accusing me of by repeatedly saying that my online order was not a product of petco & I should just take it back to wherever I got it from. This is the worst experience I've ever had from petco. Kirsten may know her product knowledge but clearly does not have enough customer service skills to treat customers properly or be put on manager on duty. Kirsten embarrassed me publicly though I was at no fault. I was mistreated & I would like the general manager to know. read more
