To begin, I'm a helicopter dog parent. Like big time. I get very anxious when I'm without my dog (I'm the one with separation anxiety, not her lmao). Although I want to be around her 24/7, I also want her to have a great life and socialize with other dogs. We stumbled upon Diablo dog because we had a horrible situation happen with our prior dog walker. I gave Diablo the third degree with 21 questions. Matt, the owner, was patient and understanding. He answered every question with compassion and free of judgement. He assured me our baby would be safe, and even suggested types of collars she could use if I wanted to watch her whereabouts while I was at work. The suggestions and compassion gave me such peace of mind. Moo has been walking with Diablo Dog walks for maybe six (?) months now and she couldn't be happier. She knows when I put her tracker on, she gets to see her friends. She has a positive association with it which shows me she has an amazing time. The dog walkers are all friendly. They each send me photos of my baby hanging out with her friends. They report on her energy level and inform me whether she pooped or not. They even tell you what it looks like so you can be aware of deviations from the norm. They are also accommodating when they can be to life situations. We were in the middle of a hectic move and going back and forth between two addresses. Matt so generously let me drop Moo off for doggy day care last minute and another time booked Moo a same day walk. He didn't scold me for the last minute request... he was understanding about life and volatility in schedules, and did what he could to help. I tried their mobile grooming service. It was a very bad and unfortunate experience. The groomer actually shaved down my Westie. She was not matted at all, just needed a bath and trim. I even gave the groomer pics of what a Westie should look like.. I was sooo upset, when I called the business, I was offered a discount on her next grooming. I told them there will not be a next time and requested that the owner call me. It's been two weeks and still no call, so here I am on Yelp with no other option than to give a bad review of my bad experience. It's a shame, Martinez needs more small businesses. The lovely people who come to pick soju up actually came to do a meet and greet first and have all been soo lovely with my dog. She is pretty wary of strangers but loves to play and Mike, Angela and Pamela have all been soo amazing with her. She is so incredibly excited now whenever they come to pick her up for her walks! I sent a detailed email to the owner, Matt, and have had no reply. This shop seems to be poorly managed, and unable to retain their groomers. Hi I brought my 1 and a half near Old dog about 5 months ago to Diablo dog grooming in Martinez California and dropped him off I guess about an hour or two later they called me to come and get him and when I got there I all they did was bathe him and tried to cut his Fair a little bit they said he kept moving and I paid them $100 and it was a $5 discount so $95 and I was like okay so what are we going to do because I brought him to come and get him groomed get him shaved down and stuff and his ears and stuff done so I'm paying you all the money but you didn't really do nothing and they was like I can bring him back ,so I brought him back with I guess a week or two later or something like that for them to try again and then I think they call in like 20 minutes or something like that later saying that he wouldn't let them groom him but his head was kind of shaved a little bit and I think a little on his legs or something and they said get him a like sedative from the vet to calm him so they can try again so I brought him back again, so was this the third time ,so I had a bad experience with Diablo dog for some reason they couldn't groom him because he moved too much so they said walking around the block for 30 minutes or something before then and then bring him back in so I did that mind you his ears and stuff was not matted when I brought him to them this last time when I got him back the third time his ears were mad at real bad when I looked at him when I got him home I called the Diablo dogs ,I'm like what did y'all do to my dog because his ears and stuff wasn't mad at like that at all when I brought them to y'all this last time and it was real tight on his ears on my what y'all do so I think they bathed him again and tried to shave him but wasn't telling me that, he kind of hesitated I don't know if it was Matt or the other guy I talked to wasn't trying to even offer me half of my money back none of my money back and then I was like okay so what we finna do because I don't have money to bring him to the vet to put him to sleep for y'all to groom him so he was like well we can try again and like can y'all at least bathe him again or something cuz I already paid y'all to groom him and he came back worse than when I brought him to y'all , I believe he said well if we beg him again he's going to get more matted up at it I'm like so that's what y'all did that's why he look like this and he didn't say nothing so I'm like okay well I figured out, thanks for nothing so I would not recommend Diablo dog grooming for somebody to go to maybe other people had good experiences but I didn't and he made my dog worse than what he was when I brought him to them!!!!!! read more

I don't know what happened here. I have an elderly Wheaton terrier, which I made an appointment with Diablo dog to have a bath nail clipping and apparently teeth brushing. I live close by and I wanted to go local. They called me 30 minutes after I dropped her off and said she was done, I have never known any Groomer to be that Quick although I did not have her clipped. When I brought her home, I was a bit suspicious. She had been fluffy so I assumed that she was brushed to look different, but she had deep dander and crusty sore spots. The very next day I took her to meet a friend and the first thing she said after petting her was"she needs a bath". I believe the cost was around 65 or $66 and I gave them 80 with a tip. I honestly believe all they did was brush her out and send her home for 80 bucks. Obviously I won't go back there there could've been a mistake, but they did call me to tell me that she was done. I didn't just show up and take her. Needless to say I'm very disappointed and I have made another appointment with another Groomer over in Benicia that I hear is very very good. read more

Brought my dog in on a Friday afternoon to ask about prices. I was told it is $65 for a bath and $85 for my dog to be groomed. I have a 15 y/o bichon poodle mix. I spent 20 minutes talking to the owner about my dog's coat, how I had been prepping him to be properly groomed. I showed him that I had completely dematted him by bringing my metal dog comb and running it through his coat. My dog's fur was long and I explained that I wanted about half the length cut. The owner preceded to tell me how so many older people buy doodle mixes and don't know how to properly care for the dogs coat. He then told me to bring him in tomorrow Saturday at 2pm and because it was our first time there he would do it for $65. He explained this way his Saturday schedule would fill up. So he sent me some emails, I gave him some information and left. On Saturday I got a text from Phil the groomer asking if I could come in earlier, so we did. Upon arriving the guy was a complete dickhead. Just the shittiest attitude anyone could have for handling someone's pet. When I explained what I was looking for he copped an even worse attitude complaining to the owner that I was there for a cut not a bath. The owner then tells me I have to pay the $85. At that point I decided to leave, and walked out, but for some stupid reason I decided to give him a try. Terrible fuckin mistake, so I don't blame these idiots, I blame myself for not sticking to my instincts. Worst dog grooming ever. I was in total shock , I had to just pay them and calmly leave, in order to avoid doing something really stupid. This was my dog for Christ sakes, everyone knows better than to treat someone's dog like shit because you're upset with it's owner especially a dog groomer. I mean seriously, that is a dangerous thing to do and I'm still not over it. So maybe you will have a different experience than I did, and it was my mistake for giving these fucktards the benefit of the doubt. Needless to say they have much more to lose at this point than I do, especially when they look back at their efforts to start a successful business, and watch it fail and fall apart, all because you were assholes and don't deserve to stay in business. My experience happened when my dog was about 11 months old. We did the required house interview and I was told my dog would be a great fit. I signed up for a walk online. I wanted to be around for pick up since my dog was still young. As soon as the dog walker arrived I noticed she was rushed, overwhelmed, and not in control of the many dogs she had packed into a very small car. One dog jumped out of the moving car when she pulled up and she had to chase after him to get him back in. Seemed too chaotic for me to feel safe leaving my dog with one walker. I've been hesitant to write this review, but after months of second guessing and second opinions, I have to speak up. We chose to hire Diablo Dog Walking to walk our pup after reading all the great reviews on Yelp. Our dog is a labrador who was 10 months old at the time. Before our first walk, they sent 2 walkers, Mike & Dylan, to meet our dog and do personality checks. He passed with no issues. A few days later, the walker, Michael, shows up, loads him into the truck with the other dogs, and we assume he's off to a good time. We were so wrong. Our dog was returned a few hours later with an 3 inch open cut on his face. When we asked what happened, Michael told us that our dog was completely out of control with the other dogs. Apparently it got so bad that he needed to tie our dog down truck bed while the other dogs remained unrestrained. Our dog eventually broke his restraints and in the process was attacked by another dog in the back, which caused the cut. Then Michael said that he tried to bring our dog into the front seat to keep him from the other dogs and claimed that our dog was jumping all over his lap and throwing his truck out of gear on the way back to our house. We were mortified. Shortly after the experience, we received a note from the owner, Matt. This was the first we'd heard from Matt because he'd been out for several weeks before. However, in spite of never speaking to us or meeting our dog, Matt insisted that our dog was "above and beyond" and in need of "something more" than traditional training. He referred us to a training camp in San Francisco that charges $3K - $7K per dog depending on the behavioral issues. We seriously considered it for a while but decided to get a second opinion. Since then, we've taken our dog to several training sessions. We've also taken him to puppy day care and worked with other dog walkers, and he's done great. He hasn't received a single negative note from any of the other training professionals that he's worked with. He also has a great temperament with other dogs when we take him to the dog park. I've never seen him get aggressive, and our puppy day care calls him the "Party Boy" because he gets along so well with other dogs - even the antisocial dogs because he disengages without being reactive. Needless to say, we've been so confused. Bad days happen, and I don't know for sure how our dog behaved on this walk. What I do know is that our dog was forcibly restrained in the back of a truck and attacked by another dog resulting in a large cut on his face. I know that the owner reached out to us to say that our dog was a problem while suggesting that we needed to spend thousands of dollars on special treatment without having ever spoken with us or met our dog previously. I also know that our dog has since worked with several other trainers and professionals in the field who have nothing but great things to say about him. Finally, I know that I'll never trust Diablo Dog Walking with our dog again. read more

But also their connection with the dog, how much fun the pup is having, and last but not least, how is the communication with the paw-rents. Bonni (who was our pup's group usual walker), and Diablo more generally, are totally awesome on all fronts. Safety - we are 100% comfortable sending McCoy on these hikes. Diablo has the experience, and the protocols, to keep everyone safe. Reliability - of course they never canceled on us (let alone cancel in the last minute), and even the exact time of pick up and drop of is remarkably stable. Also, when occasionally we needed to change the schedule (usually, add a one-off walk) they were able to accommodate us every single time. Connection with the dog - Bonni is a dog whisperer. Perfect connection with our pup from the first time she picked him up. She is also great with the humans. Very responsive, and takes the best ever pictures of the pup on the hikes (they send a bunch of pics, and a report, after each single hike). how much fun the pup is having? well, just look at the picture...
